John Andreas Peterson
EUREKA – John Andreas Peterson, age 89, passed away June 6, 2000, at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell. He was born June 15, 1910, in Bergen, Norway, to John Johanas and Anna Marie (Grendevold) Peterson.
John came to America with his family at the age of seven, homesteading in Ledger, Mont. He began his education in Devon, Mont. John met and married Alma T. LaFrance in 1935 and worked as a farmhand until moving to Fort Benton and taking employment with the Great Northern Railroad. In 1945, the family moved to Eureka where they remained after John’s retirement in 1975.
John traveled to Norway with his wife and had the opportunity to take bus tours to both California and Alaska. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially loved spending time with his farm, his few cows, his beloved grandchildren and family whom he always had time for.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Alma in 1993; his parents; one brother, Ingvald; and one sister, Christina Iverson. He is survived by two daughters, Delsena Frank and husband, Raymond of Billings, and Alma Lanktree and husband, James of Kalispell; one son, Kenneth Peterson and wife, Sharron of Eureka; one brother, Albert Peterson and wife, Irene of Washington; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for John Andreas Peterson will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, at the Church of God in Eureka with Pastor Fred Hazen officiating. Burial will follow at the Eureka City cemetery. The family suggests memorial gifts be given to the Church of God Gymnasium Fund: C/O First Church of God, P.O. Box 347, Eureka, MT 59917.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.

LaNorma (Tomi) Neville O. Pryde
BYRON, Wyo. – Tomi Neville Olson Pryde, age 85, a Byron native, died peacefully at home in Salt Lake City on June 5, 2000, after a short battle with cancer.
Tomi was born on Aug. 28, 1914, in Byron, as the fourth of ten children born to Daniel West Neville and Stella Beryl Neville. Her real name was LaNorma, but she started using the name of Tomi as a small child, She was predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters except Stella Beryl Talgo of Spokane, Wash.
In 1935 she married Robert C. Olson, and they had one son, Robert D. Olson, of Cody. After Mr. Olson’s death in 1975, Tomi renewed her acquaintance with her childhood sweetheart, William L. Pryde, and they were married in Salt Lake City on Dec. 12, 1981.
Tomi was a perfectionist in everything she did and especially loved collecting antiques, made beautiful appliquÈd quilts, stitched numerous needlepoint projects, enjoyed oil painting, and was an excellent china painter. Late in life she took up china painting in Sheridan, Wyo., and after she moved to Salt Lake City was active in the Holladay Gals China Painting Club. She was generous in sharing her many talents with family and friends.
As a member of the East Millcreek Eleventh Ward, she had several callings and served many years as the Ward Welfare Leader in the Relief Society.
Surviving are her loving husband, William L. Pryde; son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. and Faye A. Olson; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; step son--in-law, John S. Schumacher; four step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews from the Neville and Olson families and host of loving friends and neighbors.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, at East Millcreek 11th Ward, at 2702 Evergreen Ave., Salt Lake City, with a viewing from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in Byron at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10. After burial in the Byron cemetery, a dinner will be held for all friends of the family at noon at the Cody Mural Visitors Center, 1719 Wyoming Ave. in Cody. Please come and reminisce and help celebrate Tomi s life.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a contribution to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Angie Rosalez Zabriskie
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Angie Rosalez Zabriskie, 39, passed away on May 20, 2000.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Kane Funeral Home with Deacon Joe Kristufek officiating. Interment will be held in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Lucille Erlandson
LEWISTOWN – Lucille Ridgeway Erlandson, 87, formerly of Denton, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Valle Vista Manor of congestive heart failure.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 30, in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in Hillcrest cemetery in Denton. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Dorothy Whalen Halvorson
Dorothy Whalen Halvorson, 87, of Billings, passed away at her home Sunday evening, June 25, 2000. The daughter of John and Minnie (Tanner) Whalen, she was born on Christmas Day 1912 in Fisher, Minn.
Dorothy married Bob Halvorson in September 1933. They farmed in the Rothsay, Minn., area before moving to Colstrip in 1945 and to Billings in 1959. In her later years, Dorothy worked feeding children in the Billings School District and Migrant Program. She was a member of Little Flower Church, the Senior Citizen’s Center and the South Side Senior Citizen’s Group. Dorothy felt there was never a problem so big that a chocolate chip cookie couldn’t help. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1975, three sisters, one brother, and one grandson.
Survivors include her three daughters, Marlyce (Leon) George of Tucson, Ariz., Colleen (Wally) Owens of White Sulphur Springs, and Geri (Joe) Frieze of Billings; her son, Bob (Penny) Halvorson of Huntley; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A Vigil Service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Little Flower Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Little Flower Church with Rite of Committal in Holy Cross cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings. MT 59107-5033 or Little Flower Church, 209 S. 35th St., Billings, MT 59101. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

La Vaune Harris
LOVELOCK, Nev. – La Vaune Harris, 85, formerly of Hardin, Mont., died June 13, 2000, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Celebration of Life Service is Thursday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at First American Lutheran Church in Hardin.

Mark R. Haynes
(1912 - 2000)
JUDITH GAP – Mark R. Haynes, 87, of Judith Gap, passed away at the Harlowton Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home on June 23, 2000. Mark was a man with great compassion for his family, friends and community.
Mark Haynes was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Judith Gap, son of George S. and Nettie M. Haynes. Mark attended grade school and high school in Judith Gap. Upon graduating from high school, he attended college at Billings Polytechnic, Montana State College and Principia College.
After a short stint working for his Uncle Charles Stone in Oregon, Mark returned to Judith Gap to purchase the Keim Drug Store in 1936. The Keim Drug Store was combined with the Ewing Grocery Store in 1938 and the Stone Hardware Store in 1949 to create Haynes Store, Inc. In addition to operating the store, Mark was a vice-president of the First National Bank of Judith Gap from 1951 to 1953, and he was part owner of the CB Bar Ranch with C.R. Stone and Robert Stone for several years. Mark moved the general store from downtown Judith Gap to a site adjacent to the newly constructed U.S. Highway 191 in 1952, and he owned and operated the store until 1981.
Mark married Lucille Lora Walser on July 23, 1946. He met Lucille in Billings where she taught at Broadwater Elementary School. They were married in North St. Paul, Minn., and returned to Judith Gap to make their home.
Mark was keenly interested in the Judith Gap community. He was elected mayor of Judith Gap in 1951 and continued as mayor for 35 years until 1986, giving him the distinction as Montana’s longest serving mayor.
Mark started the Tri-County Development Corporation to encourage economic development in the Judith Gap community in 1975. In October 1982, Mark was honored by the Montana State Food Distributor Association/National Grocers Association Good Government Award for “outstanding service in furthering the cause of good government in this country and being Mayor of Judith Gap for over 30 years.” In May 1985, he was honored by the Judith Gap Parent Teachers Association for his service to the community and school. In January 1997, Mark received a community service award from the Lewistown Chamber of Commerce as volunteer of the year.
He was a 60-year member of the Wheatland/Judith Masonic Lodge and a 50-year member of the Mary Stranahan Chapter of Eastern Star; a member of the Christian Science Church, an active supporter of the Judith Gap Community Methodist Church, and the Judith Gap cemetery Board; and an ardent fan of the Judith Gap Tigers sports teams. Many of his friends claim that he was the one-man chamber of commerce for Judith Gap.
Survivors include Lucille, his wife of 54 years; a daughter, Lorraine Peterson of Buffalo and her family (Jim Peterson, husband; Robert Peterson, son; Jennifer Salisbury, daughter and Ryan Salisbury, son-in-1aw); son, George Haynes of Bozeman and his family (Deborah Haynes, wife; and Maren Haynes, daughter); and a sister, Mabel O. Haynes of Judith Gap. Survivors also include five nephews and one niece.
Memorial services will be held at the Judith Gap Community Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 29. Memorials may be sent to the Judith Gap Community Methodist Church, Judith Gap, MT 59453.

Phyllis Hillard
LIVINGSTON – Phyllis Hillard, 82, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Frontier Personal Care Home.
Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory. Graveside committal and interment of cremated remains will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Mountain View cemetery. Family and friends will gather at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home to proceed to the cemetery at 2:45 p.m. Friday.

Irene Holbrook
SIDNEY – Irene Holbrook, 82, passed away Tuesday morning, June 27, 2000, at the Sidney Health Extended Care Facility.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel of Sidney, interment will be in the Crane cemetery, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.

Keith R. Kimball
HYSHAM – Keith R. Kimball, 68, died at his home on June 10, 2000.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rancher cemetery, c/o Patty Willems, Hysham, MT 59038; Hysham Presbyterian Church, Hysham, MT 59038, or the Keith Kimball Memorial Fund, c/o Todd Yeager, Rosebud-Treasure Counties Extension Office, P.O. Box 65, Forsyth, MT 59327. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Steve Kordonowy
Steve Kordonowy, 73, of Billings, passed away Monday afternoon, June 26, 2000, at Western Manor Health Care Center. The son of Steven and Antonia (Rogowski) Kordonowy, was born Oct. 16, 1926, at Gorham, N.D.
Steve was raised and educated near Belfield, N.D. In March of 1945, he entered the Army and served in the 592nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment during World War II. He was honorably discharged in December 1946.
On Sept. 25. 1951, he married A. Frances Binstock in South Heart, N.D. They lived and worked in South Heart and Belfield before moving to Red Lodge, Mont., in 1967, where they owned and operated the Coast to Coast Store. In 1971, they moved to Billings, where Steve worked several jobs before becoming a field inspector for Boise Homes in Laurel. In 1983, he went to work as a boiler engineer at Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch and retired due to ill health in 1989.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. Steve was preceded in death by his parents: his son Lee Alan in 1980; his four brothers, Joe, Mike, Pete, and Frank; and his sister, Katherine Cymbaluk.
Survivors include his wife, Fran of Billings; his son, James of Bozeman; his sister, Ann Hlebichuk of Bismarck, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at St. Pius X Church. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at St. Pius X Church with cremation to follow. Memorials may be directed to St. Pius X Church, 717 18th St. W., Billings, MT 59102. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Harry Livingston
CLYDE PARK – Harry Livingston, 83, died at his home Monday, June 26, 2000.
Visitation hours will be Wednesday, June 28, from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Thursday, June 29, from 8:30 a.m. until noon at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Shields Valley United Methodist Church in Clyde Park. Graveside committal and interment will follow at Mountain View cemetery in Livingston.

Eric E. Nelson
SPEARFISH, S.D. – Eric E. Nelson, 34, died Friday, June 23, 2000.
Viewing will be at Kane Funeral Home from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 28. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

James K. Parker Jr.
AURORA, Colo. – James K. Parker Jr., 45, formerly of Billings, died on June 21, 2000, at Aurora Medical Center.
He was born in Chicago, on Dec. 23, 1954, the first son and third of six children of James K. and Veronica Parker Sr. Growing up, Jim lived in many states because of his father’s work. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1972 and from Rocky Mountain College in 1976 with a B.S. in business administration. A born salesman, Jim had a great sense of humor and was a true and caring friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by all. His giving spirit continues through organ donation.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara and son, Shannon Westerman of Aurora; his mother, Veronica Parker of Billings; two sisters, Christine Carlson of Mesa, Ariz., and Colleen Hunt (Donald) of Littleton; four brothers, Bruce Parker (Lisa) of Bozeman, Mont., Brian Parker (Rosemary) of Orlando, Fla., Major Daniel Parker (Christina), U.S. Army, of Billings and Korea; 19 nieces and nephews, his uncle, aunts, and many cousins. His father, James K. Parker Sr., and a brother, John Parker preceded him in death.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on July 1, at St. Pius X Church, 18th Street West and Broadwater. Interment to follow in Calvary cemetery at St. Pius X Church. In lieu of flowers, donations my be given to the Jim Parker Scholarship Fund (for a Billings Senior High School student to attend Rocky Mountain College), c/o Billings Senior High School, 425 Grand Ave., Billings, MT 59101, Attn: Lana Lynch. Masses are appreciated.

Alice Pfeifer
JORDAN – Alice Pfeifer died on Monday, June 26, 2000, at the St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 30, at the VFW Hall in Jordan. Interment will follow in the Cohagen cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge.
