SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Patrick Carl Roberts, 52, died on Sunday, June 4, 2000, at the VA Medical Center.
Memorial services and military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, at Connor Battlefield State Historical Park in Ranchester.

Melvin Roselle Sr.
MILES CITY – Melvin Bryan “Mel” Roselle Sr., 61, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Prayer services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 11, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, in the Highland cemetery in Thorton, Colo.

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Settle
January 8, 1919 - May 22, 2000
Elizabeth “Betty” Settle passed away Monday, May 22, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was 81 years old.
She was born Elizabeth Cooney on Jan. 8, 1919, in Butte. She was born to John Patrick Cooney and Leta Hodgen. Betty spent her childhood in Harlowton and graduated from Harlowton High School. She then attended a business school in Los Angeles.
Betty married Edward H. Settle in South Carolina on Nov. 30, 1944. They moved to Grand Junction, Colo., in 1958. Her interests were playing bridge, golf and spending time with her family and friends. She was also involved in helping her husband with the family business, Bookcliff Gardens. Edward preceded her in death in 1994.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. Settle and Virginia Settle and William R. Settle and Angie Settle, all of Grand Junction; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Del Adolf of Grand Junction; three brothers, Robert, William and Frank Cooney, all of Harlowton; a brother, Jack Cooney, preceded her in death; two sisters, Katherine Chandler of Phoenix, and Mary McNamara of Helena; seven grandchildren, Jason Settle, Joseph Settle, Heather Settle, Rebecca Vroman, Billy Settle, Chris Adolf and Evan Adolf; two great-grandchildren, Kalyna Settle and Kathryn Vroman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance was held Friday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church with Father Stan Wright officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Callahan-Edfast Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Norman Dean Stahlecker
BUTTE – Mr. Norman Dean Stahlecker passed away Thursday morning in Butte.
He was born in Coffee Creek, Mont., on Jan. 8, 1928, to Otto and Ella (Grimmert) Stahlecker and was raised in the Harlowton area where he worked on several area ranches.
In 1953, he married the former Helen Barnes and the couple had five children. In 1966, the family moved to Butte where Norman worked in highway construction. His last job was working as a teacher assistant for the Special Education Department with Butte School District No. 1. He always said that this was the most enjoyable and best job he ever had.
Norman and Helen divorced in 1974 and in 1975 he met Helen Segulia. They lived as man and wife until her death in 1990.
Mr. Stahlecker is survived by sons, Dumond Stahlecker of Lemitar, N.M., Lance Stahlecker of Grants, N.M., Curtis Stahlecker of Helena and Cole Stahlecker of Coalville, Utah; daughter, Holly Wells of Mosier, Ore; six grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Mary Stahlecker of Milnor, N.D.; sister and brother-in-law, Cecile and Domingo Martirena of Buffalo, Wyo. He is also survived by his good friends, Mike and Tina Butori of Butte.
In accordance with his requests, Mr. Stahlecker’s remains have been cremated in Butte and no services are planned at this time. Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home of Butte is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Patrick Ackerman
WOODBURY, Minn. – Thomas Patrick Ackerman, of Woodbury, formerly of Billings, died tragically on Thursday, June 1, 2000. He drowned while canoeing at the Boundary Waters Area in northern Minnesota.
Tom was born on May 21, 1978, in Edina, Minn., to John and Betty (Korb) Ackerman. At age 2, Tom and family moved to Billings. Tom attended Arrowhead Elementary, Will James Junior High, and West High School. In August 1995, Tom and his parents moved to Woodbury.
Just four months later his mother, Betty, died of cancer. Tom finished his junior and senior years and graduated with honors from Woodbury High School. Tom was an excellent student and athlete. He returned to friends, family, and the great outdoors to attend the University of Montana. He had finished three years. Tom was to be in Minnesota for three weeks. He planned a fishing trip with friends, one with family and then would return to Missoula for summer school and his senior year. He planned to attend graduate school at the University of Minnesota to earn a master of business administration.
Tom loved nothing more than being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, skiing, snowmobiling, and especially lazy days fly fishing in his float tube. He shared all of these activities with many, many friends and relatives. We are thankful that Tom died in a beautiful place, outdoors, doing what he loved. We are comforted that Tom has been returned to our mom. Tom hated conflict. We will always miss his kind, loving, gentle, generous spirit, as well as his “Missoula ponytail.”
Tom is survived by his father, John (girlfriend, Pam Bolnick) of Woodbury;. sisters, Michelle (Dave) Luce of Billings and Andrea of Minneapolis; brothers, Chris (fiancČe, Kim Kovanda) of Helena and Brian (fiancČe, Kelly Lallum) of Stillwater, Minn. Tom had a nephew, Donovan Luce, and nieces, Claire and Julia Luce. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, very special friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Bud and Hazel Ackerman, grandparents, Ray and Hortense Korb, and our mother, Betty.
Visitation in Billings will begin Wednesday evening, June 7, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Rosary will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Thursday, June 8, 7p.m. Funeral Mass will also be celebrated at St. Thomas on Friday, June 9, 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Cross cemetery. A Memorial Service will also be held at the Woodbury Community Church, on Tuesday, June 13, at 7 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Thomas P. Ackerman Scholarship Fund, First Interstate Bank, 401 N. 31st Street, PO Box 30918, Billings, MT 59116-0918.

Donald Butchart
CODY, Wyo. – Donald Butchart, 74, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, at the Ballard Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Riverside cemetery.

Ruth Detra
On June 7, 2000, our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister went to be with her Lord. Ruth Detra, 96, of Billings, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died at the Rim Shadows Personal Care Home.
Ruth was born Jan. 5, 1904, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Bertina and Carl Godtland. Ruth taught country school in Iowa from 1923-29. In 1926, Ruth married Lawrence Detra in the famous little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. In 1929, they moved to Morton, Wyo., where they operated a general store. In 1932, they returned to Mason City, Iowa.
Ruth was a loyal member of the First Christian Church of Mason City for over 60 years. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, doing needlework, and discussing politics. She never forgot a birthday. Ruth moved to Billings in 1994 to be closer to her son, Robert and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; brother, Clifford; sister, Valborg; and granddaughter, Jody. Survivors include a son, Robert Detra and wife, Helen of Billings; sisters, Lorraine Ellertson of Arizona and Connie Brown of Iowa; a sister-in-law, Rachel Djuren of Mason City; grandchildren, Mark Detra of Mason City, Cheryl Hoover and husband, Jim of Billings, and David Detra of Salinas, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren, Tracey Brock (Jeremy), Jeff Alitz (Angie), Jason Detra, Angela Detra, Brian Hoover, Matt Hagen, Kady Detra, Shaun Hoover, and Nicholas Detra; and four great-great grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by special friend, Denise MeNamee. Special thanks to Mary Dietrich and staff at Rim Shadows Personal Care Home.
Wow – 96 years! Imagine all you saw in your lifetime. You were the strength of the Detra Clan. Thanks for being so strong. We love you.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 8th & St. Johns Ave. A memorial service and inurnment will follow at a later date in Mason City, Iowa. No memorials, please.

Chester ‘Chet’ Dore
SIDNEY – Funeral services for Chester “Chet” Dore, 80, Sidney, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Kent Stenzel officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Chester Edwin Dore was born on Oct. 15, 1919, to Edwin and Ellen (Storholm) Dore on his mother’s homestead west of Fairview. He attended school in Fairview and graduated in 1938. On Jan. 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Luella Myhr in Sidney. They raised eight children, farmed and raised dairy and beef cattle. They sold cream and eggs in town. He worked part-time at Sidney Livestock Market Center and Holly Sugar. He lived on the farm for 70 years before he moved to Crestwood Inn in 1989.
Chet was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, a 4-H leader for 20 years and donated over 10 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He was proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He enjoyed being able to give a neighbor a helping hand.
Chet died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center-Extended Care Facility.
Chet is survived by his wife, Luella, of Sidney; children, Karen (Dan) Rasmussen of Glendive; Larry (Lori) Dore of Sidney, Nancy (Noel) Light of Cut Bank, Teresa Pedersen of Sidney, Christy Dore of Snohomish, Wash., Tim (Cheryl) of Snohomish and Vickie Dore of Sidney; 14 grandchildren, including, six grandsons: Chad Pedersen, Casey Pedersen, Corey Pedersen, Ryan Dore, all of Sidney, Kevin Rasmussen of Glendive and Devin Dore of Snohomish; eight granddaughters, Kirsten (Peter) Grunnet of Burnsville, Minn., Kyla Rasmussen of Glendive, Charlotte and Monica Dore of Sidney, Nacole, Naomi and Nianna Light of Cut Bank, and Jenna Dore of Snohomish; two great-grandchildren, Issac and Maren Grunnet; brother, Rudy (Inez) Dore of Sidney and sisters, Gladys Levno of Milwaukee, Ore., and Iola (Marvin) Seidlinger of Denver, and Charlotte Hawks of Malvern, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis and sister, Edna.

James R. Foltz
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – James R. Foltz, 40, died on Monday, June 5, 2000, at his home.
Funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Benjamin Jeremiah Gloege
PORTLAND, Ore. – Benjamin Jeremiah Gloege (April 3, 1974 - March 7, 2000) was born in Columbus, Mont. He was found drowned in Portland, Ore., June 6, 2000. He was well-loved and will be missed by his immediate family – his parents, Mary Elizabeth and Randall, his wife, Anne O’Hanley-Gloege, his son, Pace Chaim Gloege, and Pace’s mother, Lucy Ednie. Ben also had the good fortune to know his grandparents. He formed a special bond with his grandmother, Bernice.
Ben grew up in Billings where he went to school and worked. He had a ready understanding of children. During much of Pace’s early life, Ben lovingly tended and cared for him. Ben also had an intuitive feel for animals, and old people. While employed at Valley Health Care Center, and later at Western Manor and Primrose Personal Care Home, he formed friendships with senior citizens, many of whom welcomed his compassionate attention. He developed a special affinity for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Throughout his life Ben had ambitions to become a professional skateboarder. Skating was his passion. He moved through his young life at a very fast pace. Ben, we hardly knew you.
A memorial service for Benjamin will be held at the northwest corner of Pioneer Park, Monday, June 12, at 2 p.m. If needed, bring umbrellas and chairs. Please, no flowers. A memorial fund has been set up in the name of Pace Chaim Gloege at Mountain State Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 1815, Billings, MT 59103-1815.

Jerry Lee Hubble
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Jerry Lee Hubble, 56, formerly of Roundup, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in Memphis, Tenn.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8, in Hillside cemetery, Purcell, Okla. Yoakum-Damet Funeral Home of Purcell is in charge.

Frances A. Paulus
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Frances Anne Paulus, formerly of Laurel and Red Lodge, Mont., died Wednesday, June 7, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Champion Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows portion of the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Katherine Ann Stokes
Our loving wife, mother and friend to all, Kathy Stokes, 45, of Billings died early Tuesday morning, June 6, 2000. Kathy died as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Oregon.
Kathy was born the daughter of John and Alma (Bowers) Lehman Dec. 23, 1954, in Great Falls. She attended school in Great Falls and graduated from C.M. Russell High in 1973. She worked as a dispatcher /bookkeeper for R.L. Schaff Concrete Co. for 19 years before retiring.
On July 20, 1974, Kathy was united in marriage to Steve Stokes in Great Falls. Together they raised two children.
Kathy enjoyed the friendships that she gained through the Harley Owners Group Motorcycle Club. She enjoyed selling Mary Kay, working with stained glass and traveling, whether by motorcycle or on cruises. She was involved as secretary and historian of the Harley Owners Group.
Survivors include her loving husband of nearly 26 years, Steve; sons, Chris Stokes and Brad Stokes, all of Billings; her mother Alma (Lehman) and step-father, Dick Ecklund of Great Falls; her brother, Jerry Lehman of Great Falls, step-brother, Steve Ecklund of Grand Junction, Colo.; step-sisters, Dyan Ecklund of Anchorage, Alaska and Bobbi Ecklund of Denver, as well as several nieces and nephews. Her father, John Lehman, preceded her in death in 1985.
Services will be at St. Bernard’s Parish, Vigil Service will be 7 p.m. Sunday, June 11, and Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday. Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross cemetery with a reception at St. Bernard’s following committal. Memorials may be made to the Amy Parker Cancer Fund, c/o Carl and Lael Parker, 3710 Duck Club Road, Billings, MT 59105. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
