Alma A. Kehler
HARDIN – Alma A. Kehler, 87, of Hardin, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in the Heritage Acres Nursing Home.
She was born April 13, 1913, in Richardton, N.D., a daughter of John and Catherine Lutz Lapp. She received her early education in Richardton and completed her high school education in Torrington, Wyo.
Alma married Adam Helzer in 1931. They moved to Hardin and she worked for various cafes and the elementary school cafeteria. She married Vernon Nordley on Dec. 20, 1952. The couple made their home in Hardin where they owned and operated the Chuck Wagon Cafe until selling it in 1970. Mr. Nordley died in 1971.
She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lutheran Woman’s League and the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Helzer of Dillon and John Helzer of Helena; one daughter, Joyce Pattyn of Lodge Grass; one sister, Caroline Kirkpatrick of Idaho; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Little Big Horn Battlefield National cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Darlene Myers
MEDORA, N.D. – Darlene Myers, 66, died June 6, 2000, in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be held at Price-Murphy Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at the Medora Community Center. Interment will be in Medora Community cemetery.

BUSBY – Our beloved mother and grandmother, Gladys Bigback OldMouse, 79, went to be with Jesus (Maheo) June 4, 2000, at Hardin. She was born in Lame Deer on July 1, 1920, on the Northern Cheyenne Indian reservation, the daughter of James and Jenny Rising Sun Bigback.
She was a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe from both bands of the Suhtai and Tsistsistas. She was a descendent of Alights-on-the-cloud and Iron Shirt. Gladys received her education through the eighth grade at the old Lame Deer School. She received an honorary degree from Dull Knife Memorial College in Lame Deer and she received blue ribbon awards for her fry bread and cooking abilities.
Gladys married Lee Old Mouse in Sheridan, Wyo. He preceded her in death in 1976. Gladys was a faithful church member at the Busby White River Cheyenne Mennonite Church. She worked for the Busby School as a cook’s helper for 24 years, retiring in 1979. She spent most of her life on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Her volunteer work for the church includes many local prayer meetings, attending church conferences in Canada and the U.S. She was a devout Christian spending the rest of her life serving God (Maheo). Her loving giving heart was felt by all her family, relatives, and the people she touched.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Sr. (Cynthia) Bigback, grandchildren, Ronald Bigback Jr., LaRonna Sue (Terry) Bad Warrior, Ann Rochelle (Everdean) Good Luck, and Lee Joseph Bigback; great-grandchildren, Ronni Jean Bigback, Sue Ann and Sophie Lynn Bad Warrior, Noah and Demery Bigback, D’Ann Irene and Everdean Good Luck Jr.; sister, Marie (Gilbert) Littlewolf; stepson, Roger (Verna) Old Mouse. She is also survived by numerous relatives, nieces, nephews, and her Church Family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jenny Rising Sun Bigback; two brothers, Robert Bigback Sr. and Gordon Bigback.
Gladys helped raise as her daughters, Marie Brady, Maria Big Fire, Nancy Bigback, Jeanie Strange Owl, and Laretha Grinsell.
Her door was always open for those in need with loving kindness. Thank You Mom, for being there for us.
Funeral services will be held at the White River Cheyenne Mennonite Church in Busby on Thursday, June 8, at 2 p.m. Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the church. Burial will be at the Busby cemetery. Rausch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Archie R. Smith
LIVINGSTON – Archie R. Smith, 96, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at the Livingston Health & Rehab Center.
Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory. Graveside committal and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, in Mountain View cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery.

Kenneth G. Strike
LEWISTOWN – Kenneth G. Strike, 81, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the Lewistown City cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Thelma Loraine Brundage
BASIN, Wyo. – Thelma Loraine Brundage, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Bonnie Bluejacket Memorial Nursing Home in Basin.
Thelma was born in Basin, the daughter of Fred and Inez (McElhiney) Frisby.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Inez; husband, Raiford; son, Robert Brundage; granddaughter, Nancy Marie Brundage.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Brundage, of Basin; sister, Florence (Ross) Gentry, of Cody; sister-in-law, Gretchen Frisby, of Billings; daughter-in-law, Susan Vandenboom, of Basin; granddaughter, Cathy Pacheco, of Bridger, Mont.; three great grandchildren, Kayla, Tony, and Samantha of Bridger.
Thelma graduated from Basin High School, after graduating she worked at North American in Calif. She enjoyed her family, friends and golf. She was also a very good tennis player in her earlier years. She took pride in helping run Wheeler’s Market her family grocery store.
Private family graveside services will be held at Mount View cemetery in Basin. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for Breast Cancer has been set up at the Security State Bank in Basin. Atwood Family Funeral Directors, is in charge of arrangements.

Katie Wittman
Katie Wittman passed away on Monday, May 8, 2000, at Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings. Mrs. Wittman had lived for 93 years.
Katie was born on Aug. 26, 1906, in Aldenhoff, Russia, the daughter of Henry and Katie (Wolfe) Nafts. The family came to the United States in 1913 on the S.S. Decker. Upon arrival in the U.S. they moved to Toledo, Ohio, where they lived until 1922 before moving to the Huntley Project where they began their own farming endeavors.
In 1927, Katie married Samuel Wittman. They continued their life on the farm until Mr. Wittman’s death 12 years later. Katie lived with her parents briefly before purchasing a home across the street from South Park in Billings, on 8th Avenue South, in which she lived for 60 years. In recent years she had lived in Sage Towers, Evergreen Care Center and Eagle Cliff Manor.
Katie worked at different jobs to provide for her four children. From a large garden “where weeds dare not grow” she harvested vegetables for her family and which she shared with many friends and neighbors. Katie enjoyed other hobbies such as crocheting and embroidery work.
Her parents, a brother, Henry Nafts; and two sisters, Katherine Krum, and Marie Walters, preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Betty (Frank) Harrison of Manhattan, Louise (George) Adolph of Worden, and Hilda (Chuck) Rymer of Laurel; a son, Ron (Emma) Wittman, of Huntley; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother, Jake Nafts, of Billings; a sister, Elizabeth (George) Hinkle, of Shepherd; two sister-in-laws, Lea Kruger of Billings, and Elda Wittman of Portland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will begin on Thursday, May 11 at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Smith Downtown Chapel with interment to follow at the Huntley cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.

Hubert Harwood
MILES CITY – Hubert Harwood, 89, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Visitation will begin Thursday, May 11, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Vigil services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Kevin Christofferson officiating. Rite of committal will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Son’s Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen P. Emmett
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Helen P. Emmett, 87, formerly of Lovell, Wyo., passed away Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her daughter’s home in Broken Arrow.
Visitation will be held 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, at the Lovell L.D.S. Stake Center. Interment will follow in the Lovell cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge of arrangements.

Cornelia Mardis
FORSYTH – Cornelia Mardis, 89, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Rosebud Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth. Interment will follow in the Forsyth cemetery. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge of arrangements.

Patrick ‘Pat’ Tecca
LIVINGSTON – Patrick “Pat” Tecca, 93, passed away Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Livingston Health and Rehab Center.
Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 18, both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Dale Yurkovic as Celebrant. Graveside Committal services and burial will follow at Calvary cemetery. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Delmar Andersen
DAGMAR – Delmar Andersen, 86, passed away Sunday June 25, 2000, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday June 29, at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Dagmar with Pastor Rebecca Aardahl officiating. Interment will be in the Nathanael cemetery.

O.K. “Chappy” Chapman
LAUREL – Otis Keron “Chappy” Chapman, 92, passed away at his home in Laurel on Sunday June 25, 2000, of natural causes. At his request, no memorial will take place. Cremation was held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Pauline Clark
BUFFALO, Wyo. – Pauline Clark, 74, died Monday, June 26, 2000, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, from the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Interment will be in Willow Grove cemetery with private graveside committal services at a later date.

Pauline Curry
LIVINGSTON – Pauline Curry, 85, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at her home.
At her request, cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory and no services are planned. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Clyde Park cemetery.

George Leigh Davis
George Davis was born in 1907 in Cresswell, Ore. His family moved to Washington state where he received his basic education. On graduating from high school, he attended Lewistown Normal School and received a teaching certificate.
His entire professional life was devoted to children, first as a teacher and administrator in Washington schools then, on completing a doctorate in speech pathology from Denver University, as a speech therapist in Alaska and Montana.
His favorite recreations were fishing, gardening and travel.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean of Billings; his son, Jim and wife, Marlene of Billings and Silver Gate; and by his granddaughter, Alice and her husband and daughter of Salt Lake City.
A memorial is planned for mid-summer. If desired, memorials may be sent to Nature Conservancy or Easter Seals.

Theodore Wright ‘Ted’ Dorothy
SUNDANCE, Wyo. – Theodore Wright “Ted” Dorothy passed away June 15, 2000, at the Crook County Nursing Home in Sundance, Wyo., at the age of 93. He was born April 26, 1907, on a farm near Ute, Iowa, to Marian Wright and Maud (Champion) Dorothy, the youngest of six children. In 1915, the family moved by immigrant train to a ranch south of Sumatra, Mont., where he went to grade and high school. His first venture away from home was a lonely one at age 14, herding sheep. Later he was with his sister, Helen and her husband, in Forsyth, Mont., during boot legging days. At 19 he went to work for Phil Spear near Lodge Grass, Mont., he wrangled Dudes and worked cattle. He learned to tie a diamond hitch and took many pack trips out, making this his second home. He later worked for Dana’s & Moss Ranchers at Parksman, Wyo. In 1934 he worked at the P. K. Coal Mine where he met Florence Hutchison. He married the coal miner’s daughter (Florence) in 1937. They worked for John Kerns, Belton Evans Ranches and then moved on to the John Heigis Saw Mill in the Wolf Mountains of Montana. From there they moved to California and dug gold, to Oregon in 1941 and worked in the lumber industry for eight years, during World War II. They returned to Wyoming, and he was foreman at the Horsehoe Ranch for eight years. He later was foreman and wrangler at 1 X L Dude Ranch. In 1959 they moved to Moskee area and worked for Mrs. Dale (Dorothy) Carneige for 20 years. They retired in 1979 and moved into Sundance where he spent the rest of his life.
He had a great and adventurous life. He had a great Mom, Dad and family. He loved all kids young and old, and many called him Poppy Ted or Dad. He loved animals, especially horses and dogs. He loved to dance, snowmobile, four wheel, any and all sports, especially hunting, where he was an out of state guide and packer at the 1 X L Ranch. His special kids and friends will miss him terribly, as will his family. He touched so many lives. He is on his way to join his hunting pardners, God bless him.
Ted was a 50 year member of the Eagles Lodge No. 186 of Sheridan, Wyo.
Ted is survived by his wife and pardner of 63 years, Florence Dorothy, Sundance; his daughter, Jean and her husband, Ed Smith, Sheridan, Wyo.; foster daughter, Donna Dale Carneigie, Oregon; two granddaughters, Jody and her husband, Deryle Wilmes, Rock Springs, Wyo.; Andrea and her husband, Ron Garner, Sheridan, Wyo.; one grandson, Jim and his wife, Jenifer Shassetz, Banner, Wyo.; three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; seven step-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Howell, Sheridan, Wyo., and Nell Stalhman, Oregon; one brother, Dale Dorothy, Mill City, Ore.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, two brothers; grandson, Mike and son-in-law, Joe Shassetz.
Cremation has taken place and at Ted’s request no services will be held. A wake will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given to Crook County Nursing Home and the Crook County Ambulance.
