Woodrow McManus
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Woodrow H. McManus, 82, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Champion Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Bernice Mereness
PARK CITY – Bernice Mereness, 75, of Park City, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Evergreen-Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center clue to complications of diabetes and Parkinson’s disease.
Bernice was born July 10, 1924, at Crandall, S.D., a daughter of Alphonse and Nellie Wattier. She was married to Mayo Mereness on Sept. 21, 1942, at Bristol, S.D. They moved to Park City in 1971. Mayo preceded her in death in 1989.
Bernice enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking and doing things for her family. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Her love for the Lord was immeasurable and she truly lived her faith.
Survivors include three sons, David (Lorraine) Mereness of Lake Stevens, Wash., Richard (Sally) Mereness of Billings, Donald (Marietta) Mereness of Arlington, Wash.; one daughter, Michelle (Roger) Krug of Laurel; two brothers, Norris Wattier and Erwin Wattier, both of Bristol; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 19, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rite of Committal in the Park City cemetery. Visitation will begin Sunday at 1 p.m.

John M. ‘Jack’ Miller Jr.
John M. “Jack” Miller Jr., passed away at his home in the company of family on June 13, 2000, due to lung cancer associated with asbestosis exposure. Jack was born on Aug. 18, 1921, to John M. Miller Sr. and Suzie Collings in Lewistown. Jack’s early years were spent on the family ranch in the Snowy Mountains of Montana. Jack and his family moved to Billings in 1937 and he graduated from Billings High School in 1940.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Jack enlisted in the Navy as an airplane machinist’s mate in World War II in the Pacific Theater. During his Navy years, he met and on Oct. 27, 1945, he married Jean Dvorak of Chicago. After their marriage, the couple lived in Panama for a short while and then moved to Billings where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Jack became a pipe fitter at the Carter Oil Refinery which later became Exxon. During this time, Jack was very active in the Democratic Party and his union. He was vice president of the state AFL-CIO and he graduated from the Harvard University Trade Union Program in 1966.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his native Montana. He had a heart the size of his state and he gave to all. He dearly loved his family and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Davis Miller of Kent, Wash., and two children, Gayle A. Stewart and her husband, Bard G. Middleton and Robert J. Miller and his wife, Joanie; two grandchildren, Mandy and Melissa Stewart; his siblings, Edwin M. Miller of Carson City, Nev., and Joy Reed of Walnut Creek, Calif. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Miller and his siblings, Rachell Miller, Maryjo Miller and Henry Miller.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist at 11 a.m. Memorials should be sent to Big Sky Hospice or the charity of your choice.

Eric Dana Richardson
POWELL, Wyo. – Eric Dana Richardson, 47, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at the Powell Hospital.
Private family services will be held. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

Alice Schaefer-Fadhl
COON RAPIDS, Minn. – Alice Schaefer-Fadhl died on June 7, 2000.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. June 26, at the First Lutheran Church in Miles City, Mont.

Clifford Thompson
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. – Clifford Thompson, 88, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Central Wyoming Hospice Center in Casper.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and burial will follow at Monument Hill cemetery. Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge.

Leona M. Turner
LEWISTOWN – Leona M. Turner, 65, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, in the Cloyd Chapel and interment will follow in the Central Montana Memorial Gardens. Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Bill West
LIVINGSTON – Bill West, 83, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at his home.
Cremation has taken place and graveside committal of the cremated remains will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the Wilsall cemetery. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home is in charge.

Leona P. Oedekoven
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Leona P. Oedekoven, 73, died on Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Louis H. Plachek
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Louis H. Plachek, 76, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center.
Viewing will be 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, from Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery, Masonic No. 43 Section.

Amanda Rudie
SIDNEY – Amanda Rudie, 82, passed away Saturday June 24, 2000, at her home in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday June 29, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview, with Pastor Larry Qaunback officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.

John F. Ruedi
CORONADO, Calif. – John F. Ruedi, 74, of Coronado, Calif., died June 16, of cancer after a brief illness. He was born in Billings and attended Billings Senior High where he was an outstanding athlete. He excelled in football and basketball and his freshman year was Montana High School golf champion.
Returning from military service in 1946, he attended Montana State University for one year. Following that, he became a professional golfer. He was a club pro in North Carolina for years and in 1962-63 played on the PGA tour. In 1962, he won the Montana Open at the Highlands Club in Billings where he had caddied for years as a youngster and had worked on course maintenance. In 1963, he was a teaching pro at the Yellowstone Club, working with his close friend, Paul Allen.
In 1964, John became the head professional at Coronado Golf Course, a position he held for 31 years, retiring in 1995. He won a number of tournaments in Southern California through the years and was widely known and highly respected, both as a golf pro and as an individual.
Survivors include his sons, Jay Ruedi of Imperial Beach, Calif., and Randy Ruedi of Coronado; sister, Ursula Sheridan of Billings; brother, Julius Ruedi of San Diego; and Patricia Elliott, his companion of 24 years.
No services are planned.

Alex Schultz
COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Alex Schultz, 81, died on Thursday, June 22, 2000, at the Regency at The Park. Visitation was held on Monday morning in the Relief society Room of the Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Walla Walla, Wash., with Bishop Casey Goodwin officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at Mount Hope cemetery in College Place. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, c/o Mountain View Funeral Chapel, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
Alex was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Burstall, Saskatchewan, the son of Martin and Katherine (Aab) Schultz Sr. He came to the United States in 1929 with his parents. They lived in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming before settling in Hardin, Mont.
He was involved in construction and various jobs before starting to farm in 1952. He moved to Idaho and farmed until 1972. After quitting farming in Idaho, he moved to Walla Walla in 1974 and worked in Eureka for K2H Farms as potato department manager for five years before going overseas. After leaving K2H Farms, he went to Libya and Egypt on farming development projects. His plans after retirement were to work at his only love – farming, seasonally, but an injury prevented him from doing this. He enjoyed traveling and working in his yard. Farming and working were his main enjoyments in life. Taking care of his family was foremost to him.
On June 20, 1942, he married Betty M. Hager in Billings, Mont. She survives him at their home in College Place. He is also survived by one daughter, Joette Jones of College Place; two sons, Mike Schultz of College Place and Mark Schultz of West Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Martha Steinmiller of Scottsbluff, Neb.; one brother, John Schultz of Billings, Mont.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jake and Martin Schultz.

Helen V. Slane
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. – Helen V. Slane, 81, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 29, at 2 p.m., at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis. Interment will be at Monument Hill cemetery.

Romona C. Smith
SENTINEL BUTTE, N.D. – Romona C. Smith, 80, of Wibaux, formerly of California, died on Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Country Cottage Personal Care Center near Beach.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, in the Sentinel Butte cemetery. Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker is in charge.

Joe Visser
RED LODGE – Joe Visser, 62, of Red Lodge, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 26, 2000, in Red Lodge.
Joe was born on Jan. 4, 1938, in Columbus, a son of Michael and Cecilia Visser. He was raised and educated in the Laurel area, graduating from Laurel High School in 1956. Later that year Joe enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for four years.
Joe began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1966 and moved to Red Lodge when he was appointed Postmaster here in 1981. He retired in 1996.
In 1970, Joe married Nora Curry in Elko, Nev.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, was past president of the Rotary Club, and had belonged to the Elks, Lions and the Carbon County Arts Guild. In his spare time, Joe loved to cut wood.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Visser of Red Lodge; two sons, Mike Visser of San Antonio, Texas, and Bill Rodier of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandchildren, Wendy Rodier and Zachary Visser; two sisters, Delores Byrd of Norfolk, Va., and Mary Ellen Goggins of Molt; and two brothers, Albert Visser of Billings, and Ray Visser of Missoula.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, in St. Agnes Catholic Church in Red Lodge. Cremation has taken place with the Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Boys & Girls Club of Red Lodge, P.O. Box 11, Red Lodge, MT 59068.

Lyndon Dean White
CROW AGENCY – Lyndon Dean White, 35, of Crow Agency, died of injuries sustained in a one car rollover near Hardin early morning June 25, 2000.
Bach’aappassuush (Rivaled Over Him) was born June 23, 1965, in Crow Agency, a son of Bruce and Elizabeth Not Afraid White Sr. He attended elementary schools in Texas, Edgar and Crow Agency before graduating from Hardin High School in 1983.
He was a member of the Big Lodge Clan, child of the Ties the Bundle Clan, Reno District and the “Wild Bunch” handgame teams. While enjoying his favorite pastime of playing and singing for handgames, he won numerous awards of money and drum prizes for being the “Best Singer and Guesser”. In high school, he excelled in basketball, cross county and track.
Lyndon especially enjoyed teaching his sons, nephews and little brothers outdoors men skills of fishing and hunting. He shared his expert horsemanship abilities of bronc riding with enthusiasm too. Another of his favorite things to do was coach the “Crow Bulldogs” and watch his son, Jordan, play basketball. A most memorable personality trait of his was the sense of humor that was appreciated by all his acquaintances. Another cultural practice that he enjoyed was teasing his sisters-in-law without mercy. A compassionate and caring individual, Lyndon was more than willing to lend everyone, especially his nieces and nephews, a helping hand, never questioning why nor expecting payment.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1984 and was honorably discharged in 1988. He was stationed at Whidbey Island NAS, Oak Harbor, Wash., trained as an aviation mechanic and served as a military policeman. While stationed in Washington, he enjoyed playing golf and bingo to pass the time.
Lyndon married Victoria Ann Snell on March 18, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nev., and the couple made their home in Crow Agency.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Stewart and two brothers, Woody White and Garland Yellowmule.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria of Crow Agency; four sons, Jordan, Morgan, Kevin and Garrell White of Crow Agency; two daughters, Jamie White of Crow Agency and Janiece Old Elk of Hardin; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce (Elizabeth) White Sr. of Crow Agency; seven brothers, Bruce (Jennifer) White Jr. of Pryor, Cyrus (Maranda) Yellowmule of Wyola, Emmerson (Francis) Pickett of Garyowen, Marlin (Marie) Yarlott and Albert (Jackie) Medicine Horse of Hardin, Larkin (April) Chandler and Chris (Tammy) Dillon of Crow Agency; three sisters, Nadia (Curtis) Bad Bear of Billings, Bethany Not Afraid of Harlem and Rose (Elwyn) Stewart of Crow Agency; his adopted parents, Clevia Jones of Hardin, Dewey (Mary Lynn) Bull Tail of Billings and Duke (Cherry) Tsoodle of Okla.; his grandparents, Starr (Hazel) Not Afraid of Ft. Smith, Sarah Pretty Paint of Crow Agency and Arvilla Plain Bull of Pryor; members of the Bull Tail family. Survivors most special to him in addition to his immediate family are his extended family of his namesake; numerous uncles, aunts, adopted sisters, brother, in-laws and special military buddies; Lyndon Martin “Sparky” Pease, uncles, Marlin (Reva) Not Afraid, Garland (Berylene) Not Afraid, Leslie (Cammie) Not Afraid, James (Annabelle) White and Vidal Not Afraid; his aunts, Geneva (Robert) Other Medicine, Barbara (Frank) Bacon, Francine Amyotte, Diane (Andrew) Russell, Paulette Pease, Marilyn Not Afraid, LaVern Costa, Arvilla (Dennis) Steffan, Valerie (Tim) Dust, Mary Lou (Heywood Sr.) Big Day, Patsy Stands, Barbara (Chris) Comes Up and Claudette Old Bear; sisters, Dori Bull Tail, Roses (George) Not Afraid; special military buddies, Brian Last Star and Bill Ten Fingers; adopted brother, Robed Stewart arid an adopted sister, Quindi Whiteman.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Thursday in the Crow Agency Catholic Church social room. Interment with military honors will follow in the Crow Agency cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
