Lewellyn Greg Nomee
LODGE GRASS – Lewellyn Greg Nomee, 47, of Lodge Grass, died Tuesday evening June 13, 2000, in the Deaconess Medical Center.
Akchiia itchish (His Good Horse) was born Oct. 13, 1952, in Crow Agency, a son of Paul and Gretchen Bull Weasel Nomee. He grew up in the Lodge Grass area, attended schools in Texas, the Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota and later the Vo-Tech centers in Bismarck and Billings. He has been employed for the last 10 years as a field technician for the Crow Health Department.
Lewellyn married Colleen Jefferson on April 7, 1973, in Sheridan, Wyo., and the couple made their home in Lodge Grass.
He was a member of the Holy Ghost Believers Church, American Quarter Horse Association, Ties the Bundle Clan and a child of the Greasy Mouth Clan.
Lewellyn was a owner and trainer of race horses. His horses won the 1993 Miles City Reynolds Feature, 1994 Teepee Capital of the World Endurance Handicap 870 Yards, Bozo Whiteman Memorial, 1994 Billings Fair Bruno Feature (five furlongs), 1995 1st place in the Crow Fair 350 yards, 1997 Crow Fair Princess Stakes, 1998 2nd in the Crow Bred futurity and in 1999, 1st in the Crow Fair Crow bred consolation.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen of Lodge Grass; three daughters, Michelle (Mike) Jefferson-LaFromboise of Billings; Tiffany and Sheena Nomee of Lodge Grass; an adopted daughter, Cassie Jefferson of Lodge Grass; three adopted sons, Patrick Nomee of Crow Agency, Clement Nomee and Claude Dawes III of Lodge Grass; 10 sisters, Veronica (Brewster) Pretty on Top of Reno Creek, Ramona Backbone, Marjorie (Sam) Hoops, Josie (Ben) Stands, Daisy (Henry) Bright Wings, Bonnie and Cookie Hawk of Lodge Grass, Barbara (Chris) Comes Up, Patsy Stands, and Mary Lou (Haywood) Big Day Sr. of Pryor; seven brothers, Carlton (Clara) Nomee Sr., Paul (Bertha) Nomee Jr., James (Annabelle) White, Robert (Marcia) and Chester (Sharolyn) Nomee of Lodge Grass, Bruce (Elizabeth) White and Arnold (Jeffie) Costa of Crow Agency; one adopted sister, Henrietta Pretty on Top of Lodge Grass; four adopted brothers, Victor Morning of Crow Agency, Harry Lee Wallace and Bernard Jefferson of Lodge Grass, and Francis Springfield of Colorado; three grandsons, Desmond, Chan and Rylon Bird; and his special friend, Myron Crooked Arm of Wyola.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in the Lodge Grass Catholic Church Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Melvin W. Pate
SEVERANCE, Colo. – Melvin W. Pate, 58, formerly of Billings, died on June 11, 2000, at his home.
Services with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 15, at the United Methodist Church in Esbon, Kan. Interment will be in Esbon cemetery. Melby Mortuary of Mankato, Kan., is in charge.

Raymond G. Petersen
PLENTYWOOD – Raymond G. Petersen’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2000, at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Dagmar. Pastor Wes Aardahl will officiate and burial will be in Nathanael cemetery. Raymond, 84, died Tuesday morning, June 13, 2000, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood.
Raymond was born on May 14, 1916, in Dagmar, a son of Jacob and Dagmar (Andersen) Petersen. He grew up and went to school in the Dagmar area and helped his father on the farm. In 1942 he joined the Army and served in the Pacific during WWII. In 1946, Ray was discharged from the service and returned to Dagmar where he farmed with his brother, Elmer.
Raymond and his sister, Emma, were very interested in music and played for area dances. He played many instruments throughout his life. He was a “gadget guru” and liked to keep up with the latest equipment, especially in the field of radio. Ray was a ham radio operator and communicated with a number of area hams. He liked new cars with all the gadgets possible.
Ray took flying lessons, obtained his private pilot’s license and was a member of a flying club. He was a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church, the Plentywood Elks and was a life member of the V.F.W. Ray liked to fish and took a few trips to Canada.
He is survived by two sisters: Laura Angstman and her husband, Jess of Havre and Lillian Nett and her husband, Jack of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister-in-law, Sigrid Petersen of Plentywood; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by a number of good friends. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leonard and Elmer and a sister, Emma.
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge of arrangements.

Donald ‘Vic’ Wells
CODY, Wyo. – Donald V. “Vic” Wells, 69, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at his home following an extended illness.
Cremation has taken place and in accordance with his wishes, no services are planned. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

Billie Gene Wilson
LOCKWOOD – Billie G. Wilson, 64, of Lockwood, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Parkview Care Center.
He was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Middlesboro, Ky., a son of Roscoe and Mattie Ousborn Wilson. Billie service in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and many years later had worked as a truck driver for Roger Guex Trucking.
There are no known survivors but many special friends. He was will known at “Biscuit Billie” on the rendezvous circuit and enjoyed being Santa Claus.
An open gathering of friends will be all day Saturday at Coulson Trading Post at exit 455 off I-90. Cremation has been held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Deryle Gene Moseley
At the age of 65, Deryle Moseley of Billings died at Deaconess Medical Center on Monday, May 1, 2000. Deryle was born the son of Noel and Maybel (Becraft) Moseley on Nov. 19, 1934, in Garden City, Kan., where he was educated and graduated from Garden City High School.
On Dec. 31, 1958, Deryle was united in marriage to Alice Wood in Dodge City, Kan.
After 25 years of working as an electrician, Deryle retired from the IBEW in 1994. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Playing pool, working crossword puzzles and playing horseshoes were his favorite pastimes.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Alice; his sons, Edward Moseley of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Dean Moseley of King George, Va; daughters, Cindy (John) Fleming of Laurel, and Brenda Moseley of Billings; grandchildren, Jennifer Fleming of Billings and Stephanie Fleming of Laurel, and great-grandson, Matthew of Missoula.
Cremation has taken place, memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday, May 8, at the Church of the Open Bible, 19th Street W. and Howard Avenue.
Memorials may be made to the Pregnancy Crisis Center, P.O. Box 8146, Billings, MT 59108 or Catholic Social Services, 2703 11th Ave. N, Suite 2, Billings, MT 59101. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.

Marie Elizabeth Nix
WIBAUX – Marie Elizabeth Nix, age 76, of Wibaux, died in Wibaux on Sunday, April 30, 2000. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2000, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wibaux with Rev. Fr. Julian Nix officiating and Rev. Fr. Joseph Ponessa and Rev. Fr. Jose Valliparambil concelebrants. A Rosary/Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Wibaux. Interment will follow services at the Wibaux City cemetery with Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
Marie was born Sept. 10, 1923, on the family farm near St. Philips, Mont., the daughter of Joseph and Irene Setera Podolski. She was raised and received her elementary education in the St. Philips area, graduating from Wibaux County High School. She then attended college in Billings where she received her teaching certificate.
Marie was married to Albert L. “Nicky” Nix in Wibaux on June 5, 1946. Marie lived her whole life in Wibaux County. Marie was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wibaux, the American Legion, VEW, and a local bridge club.
Prior to her marriage, Marie had taught school at rural schools in Dawson County. After her marriage, her life was centered around raising her five children and being grandmother to fourteen grandchildren. Marie’s family benefited from her talents of cooking, quilting, crocheting, and prayer.
Marie was preceded in death by a brother, George Podolski, and one grandson, William Roberts.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Angie Ross and her husband, John of Bismarck, N.D.; son, Larry Nix of Bartlesville, Okla.; daughter, Joyce Roberts and her husband, Dave of Helena; son, Patrick Nix and his wife, Julie of Bozeman; daughter, Andree Nix and her significant other, Greg Lombardi of Denver; five sisters, Regina Terrazas, Agnes Maus, Clarie Lehnen, Esther Schmeling and Dorothy Frank; two brothers, Tom Podolski and Ernie Podolski; along with thirteen grandchildren, Brant Ross, Jacob Nix, Jennifer Nix, Erin Nix, Tony Roberts, Joe Roberts, Andy Roberts, Tom Roberts, David Roberts, Peter Nix, Ryan Nix, Kellie Nix and Trevor Nix Lombardi.

Joseph Julius Kombol
ROUNDUP – Our father, brother, grandpa, and friend Joseph Julius Kombol of Roundup, passed away April 30, 2000, in Billings at the age of 81.
Joseph (Joe) was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Roundup to John and Caroline (Grenko) Kombol and was the youngest of five children.
Joseph ended his formal education upon completion of the ninth grade and went to work for the Roundup Coal Co.
During WWII, Joseph answered the call to serve his country serving in the United States Army in the German campaign. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Joseph married Clara Blom on May 10, 1947, in Roundup. He returned to work for the Roundup Coal Company until closure of the mine in 1960. He then went to work for the state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks at the Charles M. Russell Wildlife Refuge as a heavy equipment operator and retired after 20 years. Joseph also worked for the City of Roundup.
Joseph was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church of Roundup, the Knights of Columbus, and a life member of VFW Post No. 4925.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara; and sister, Romana Kombol. He is survived by his sister, Anne Kombol of Helena; brothers, Vince (Neva) of Lewiston, Idaho, and John of Roundup; sons, Edward of California and Wayne (Sundie) of Everett, Wash.; and daughter, Louise (Warren) Lear of Roundup; grandchildren, Stacey Clements and Travis Kombol, Isaiah Kombol, and Lindsey and Trasse Lear; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, at Smith’s Downtown Chapel in Billings with interment at Custer National cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Roundup Memorial Hospital, St. Vincent’s Intensive Care Unit, Musselshell County Council on Aging or the charity of your choice.

Maxine Diefenderfer
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Maxine Mural Diefenderfer, 72, died at her home on Monday, May 1, 2000.
Graveside services will be held at 12:20 p.m. at the Sheridan Municipal cemetery on Wednesday, May 3, with memorial services to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the family home, 18 Circle 8 Drive. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Rhonda Jean Castle
Rhonda Jean Castle died Friday, April 28, 2000, after a short battle with cancer. Rhonda was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Sept. 14, 1962, where she spent her early childhood years. The family moved to California, Ohio, and then Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1980. Later moves took her to Colorado, where she met her husband, and eventually to Montana, where they married and made their home.
Rhonda will be remembered for her love for her family, her friends and her creative talents. Her pets also occupied a special place in her heart. She had a beautiful singing voice, and wrote short stories for her nieces and nephews. We will all miss her so much.
Rhonda is survived by her husband, Gary of Billings; her father and stepmother, Jim and Sondra Reyer of Shepherd; her sister, Lori Sexton (Denny) and brother, Dan Reyer (Ardys), also of Shepherd; two stepsisters, Martie Panarelli (Dave) and Kellie Bearman (Nigel); stepbrother, Rob Barrett; three nephews and six nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Reyer.
The casket is closed. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Red Lodge cemetery. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Harold T. Stradtman
Harold T. Stradtman, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away Sunday, April 30, 2000.
Harold, son of Henry Stradtman and Clara Zeller, one of five children, was born on April 17, 1914, in Carson, N.D. He worked on the family farm, owned a trucking firm and learned machinist skills in Syracuse, N.Y. He married Edna Ella Zieske, on Aug. 1, 1934, in Sidney.
Harold worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle until they settled in Billings in 1943. Harold loved to drive trucks and worked for Northern Pacific Railway, now Burlington Northern, for 30 years earning numerous truck rodeo and safety awards. He retired in 1971.
He was also busy whether it was coaching Little League, fixing everything and anything, playing baseball with his grandchildren, or doing the things he loved. He loved fishing, bowling, dancing, watching baseball, playing cards and helping Edna take care of her beautiful rose garden with tender loving care. His entire life was going out of his way to help his family, and friends, and neighbors. To most who knew him he was a master mechanic and a jack of all trades.
Preceding him in death was his parents, Henry and Clara Stradtman, brothers, Lester and Melvin Stradtman.
Survivors include his wife Edna Zieske Stradtman; daughters, D. Kaye (Bill) Fenton and Gloria Davies (Gerald) Nelson, grandchildren, Debra (Terry) Pursell, Darla (Scott) Bierwiler, Darren (Heidi) Davies, Brett Carpani, Adam (Ginger) Carpani, Joshua (Jen) Fenton, Melissa Fenton, Jerry (Sue) Nelson, Jr., Connie Nelson; Edward (Sue) Nelson; great grandchildren, Aaron Pursell, Bradley Pursell, Levi (Angie) Bierwiler, Joshua Bierwiler, Danielle Bierwiler, Zachary Falcon Carpani, Michael Fenton, Nicki Nelson, Kea Nelson, Robert Nelson, and Amanda Strand; great-great grandchildren, Justy Bierwiler and Mercedes Bierwiler, two sisters, Selma Zimmer and Gertrude Odegaard and sister-in-laws, Ethylyn Stradtman, and Katie Zieske and brother-in-laws, Roy Zieske and O.R. Jessee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Smith’s West Chapel, 304 34th St. West. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial cemetery. We love you and we will miss you and shall never forget you. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Sylvia M. Lyndes
HYSHAM – Sylvia M. Lyndes, 72, of Hysham, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at her home in Hysham of natural causes.
Sylvia was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Forsyth, the daughter of Anfin and Anna Johnson Muri. She spent her youth in Myers, attending grade school at Rancher, followed by graduating from Hysham High School. Sylvia attended the University of Montana as a music major. Sylvia returned to Hysham where she worked for Taylor’s Motor Mart.
On June 12, 1949, Sylvia married Charles Lyndes at the family home in Myers. They continued to live in Hysham where Sylvia raised her three boys. In 1959, Sylvia worked for the Selective Service as a clerk for the next 15 years: She also taught piano lessons to many of the kids in Hysham for 30 years and played the organ and piano for many weddings, funerals, in a number of bands, as well as many other activities.
Sylvia was a member of the Hysham Community Presbyterian Church, where she played the organ, was on the Senior Citizens Advisory Board, Council on Aging, HRDC Board, a past worthy matron of the Hysham Eastern Star and the Bethlehem Order of the Eastern Star in Forsyth; an election judge as well as being involved in many other activities in the Hysham area. Sylvia was very instrumental in the creation of the Treasure County 89ers Museum and served as board president from its inception in 1988 until her death.
She is survived by her three sons, Jay (Pam) Lyndes of Billings, Charles (Bev) Lyndes Jr. of Green River, Wyo., Greg (Betsy) Lyndes of Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kari, Brian, Brandi, Erik, Ryan, and Ashlynn. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her brother, Melvin Muri.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hysham with interment to follow in the Rancher cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Treasure County Museum. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Blanche Sifert
GLENDIVE – Blanche Sifert, 97, died on Monday, May 1, 2000, at the Glendive Medical Center Extended Care Facility.
Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive.
