John Martin Carroll
OAK HARBOR, Wash. – Former Billings, Montana resident John M. Carroll, 42, succumbed Saturday, July 29th, 2000, to a heart attack while on an outing with his children at Hauser Lake. Mr. Carroll had resided in Oak Harbor, Wash. and had recently returned to Montana for a family reunion.
Mr. Carroll, the eight of ten children, of Mathias E. and Valetta K. Carroll, was born on Nov. 3, 1957 in Billings, Mont. He lived all of his early years and attended school in Billings. He joined the Navy in 1976 and retired in 1994. During his distinguished career John provided support for every major peace keeping effort that the United States was involved in, returning home only when it was over, over there.
John was united in marriage on March 15, 1986 in Oak Harbor, Wash. to Leanor Lomahan. John was preceded in death by his mother, Valetta, grandfathers, Charles Fox and Charles W. Carroll and his maternal grandmother, Nina L. Gates. John is survived by his loving wife, the “apples of his eye” his children, Sean Garrett and Kathleen Mae Carroll all of the family home, his grandmother, Cecilia Carroll of Billings, his parents, Matt and Barbara Carroll of Union Gap, Wash. and brothers, Chuck (Alice), Jim and Dave (Jackie) of Billings and Dan (Linda) of Seattle, Wash., sisters, Lorene Lindsey (Bobby) of Lakeworth, Fla., Mary Ann Hamilton (Ryk) of Great Falls, Sara Kittelson (Kurt) of Helena, Colleen Skubra (Steve) and Nora Carroll of Bellingham, Wash. and step brother, Bill Woodford (Rose) of Clinton, Mont., numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends the world over.
John will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, honesty and integrity and the love that he displayed for his family. John was a friend to all who met him and he treated everyone as a potential friend; anyone who met John valued that friendship. “Johnnie, we love and miss you. You will forever be in our prayers. Tell God “Hello” for us.”
Viewing will be held from 1-8 p.m. Monday, July 31, at the Retz Funeral Home in Helena. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Helena with Father John Robertson presiding. Cremation will follow the service. Retz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel L. Haagensen
CODY, Wyo. – Daniel L. Haagensen, 89, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the West Park Long Term Care Center.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Riverside cemetery.

Conrad Hart
LAUREL – Conrad Hart, 90, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Valley Health Care Center.
Conrad was born. in Kautz, Russia on March 21, 1910 the son of John Jacob Hart and Katherine Margaret Michel.
Conrad came to the United States on April 8, 1912 on a freighter named the S. F. Birma, and they arrived at Ellis Island. They then settled in Scottsbluff, Neb. for two years and then moved to the Laurel area with his parents.
On May 4, 1931, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Reiter in Laurel, Montana. She died in Oct. of 1987.
He loved Christian music, organ music, horses, working in his yard, and his dog “Tipple” Farming was his life. He also loved his church. He was involved in the Men’s League, and served on the board of trustees. Conrad was very instrumental in the building plans of the First Congregational Church.
Conrad married Emma Michaelis Frank on Nov. 10, 1975. She passed away on July 14, 1987.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, one grandson, Paul; three brothers, Jacob, Phillip and George Hart; two sisters, Elizabeth and Katie.
He is survived by one son, Wilmer of Laurel; daughters, Geraldine Peeler of Billings, Marion (Adam) Krug of Laurel, and Janice (Charles) Baker of Pinole, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the First Congregational Church in Laurel. Interment will be at the Laurel cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to. the First Congregational Church in Laurel or charity of ones choice.

Robert Haumschild
FORSYTH – Robert Haumschild, 68, formerly of Pittsville, Wis., passed away July 29, 2000, at Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1. Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Chapel. Interment will be at a later date in Pittsville, Wis. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of arrangements.

Orton H. Kirkvold
BAINVILLE – Orton H. Kirkvold, 80, of Bainville, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2000, at the Roosevelt Memorial Hospital in Culbertson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the First English Lutheran Church in Bainville with Pastor Alvin Beyer officiating. Interment will be in the Bainville cemetery under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.

Rev. Gene Martin
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calf. – Rev. Gene Martin, 83, formerly of Miles City, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Pocatello, Idaho.
Visitation will begin Monday, July 31, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Custer County cemetery in Miles City. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Mullin
LAMBERT – Mass of Christian Burial for Louise Mullin, 68, Lambert, will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2000, at the St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Sidney, Mont. with Father Ned Shinnick presiding. Wake service will be 6 p.m. Sunday evening, July 30, at Fulkerson Memorial Chapel, Sidney.
Musical selections are provided by Gary Rauschendorfer and Roxy Rees. Reader will be Rick Mullin and the Eulogy will be by Katie Pust. Casketbearers are: Darcy, Darin, & Dawn Mullin, Wendy and Savanna Schulenberg, Wesley and Jayde Torgerson, Ashlie, Alexis, and Aric Mavity, and Troy and Tristan Mullin. Honorary casketbearers are: Katie Pust and all of Louise’s many loving friends and relatives. Ushers are John Prevost and Keith Backes. Interment will be in the Richland Memorial Park, Sidney, under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Louise was born Feb. 5, 1932, to parents, Wayne and Grace (Crouse) Taylor in St. Joseph, Mo. In 1936, she moved to Montana, where her father was employed at the Holly Sugar Factory. At the age of 15, she moved to Lambert. After a brief move back to Sidney, the family returned to Lambert, where she resided the rest of her life. In March of 1949, Louise was united in marriage to Dale Mullin in Sidney. They had four children, Dave, Dale, Dana and Darla.
Louise and Dale farmed five miles north of Lambert. Louise had her grandchildren around her throughout her life and they were the highlight of her life. She enjoyed following all of their school and sport activities. Her springs were occupied with watching the cows having their calves.
Her summers were spent traveling and fishing, where she got one of her many prized possessions, a 25 lb. 42” long Northern Pike, which she caught using an 8 lb. test line. She then had it mounted and it will continue to hang on her wall. Falls and winters were the time to follow her grandchildren’s sports and enjoy her indoor hobbies. She loved her pets, which at various times, ranged from lizards to fish, to birds, to cats to dogs.
She was an excellent cook, house and farmwife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all. She had a very fulfilling life and a close knit family. Her children, family and friends are very proud of the fight and strength she showed for so many years, during her many battles with cancer. She is in God’s hands now, where she is resting peacefully.
Louise died at her home, Thursday, July 27, surrounded by her family. Surviving her are her husband, Dale Mullin of Lambert; two sons, Dave and Merle (Torgerson) Mullin, and Dale & Lisa (Barfield) Mullin, all of Lambert, Mont.; two daughters, Dana (Mullin) & Lloyd Dopp of Sidney and Darla (Mullin) and Ken Hill of Lambert; eleven wonderful grandchildren, Darcy, Darin and Dawn Mullin, Wendy (Torgerson) and Tadd Schulenberg, Wesley and Jayde Torgerson, Ashlie, Alexis and Aric Mavity, Troy and Tristan Mullin; one great-granddaughter, which was her namesake, Savanna Louise Schulenberg; her mother, Grace Taylor of Williston, N.D.; and a brother, Emmett and Doretta Taylor of Williston.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Taylor; and sister, Betty Jean Rambur.

Dennis Walter Owens
Our loving son, father, and brother Dennis Walter Owens passed away July 27, 2000, surrounded by his family and loving friend Opal Fuller.
He was born in Billings Dec. 18, 1951, to Don and Bev (Fox) Owens. He began his education at Elysian School and graduated from West High in 1970. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1971, serving in Korea, Germany, and the U.S., and retired after 20 years. He married Golia Lea Barnett in 1975, and from that union was born Jason Allen Owens. They were later divorced.
Dennis enjoyed bowling on the Friday Night Fireside League, helping on Saturday morning Center Lanes handicapped bowling league with special brother Mark and the YARC special dances. He also enjoyed fishing and girl-watching. He was a member of YARC, and the Moose. Dennis’ favorite part of the Bible was the Book of Psalms.
His son, Jason; parents, Don and Bev Owens; sisters, Nancy Jenson, and Amy (Randy) Dangerfield; and brother, Mark Owens survive him. Other family would include nieces, Tracy (Mac) McLaughlin, Kristina (Brent) Dangerfield-Greenlea; nephews, Kerry and Kam Dangerfield; aunts; Pauline (Hank) Steinmetz, Idora Smith, Norma Cunningham, Barb (Kenny) Helfrich, Susie (Lloyd) Ritchie; and uncle, Richard (Becky) Owens. Six great nieces; and numerous great aunts; uncles; and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Walter and Gladys Owens, Alex and Frieda Fox, and Aunt Arleen Bailey.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at the Moose Lodge, 171 Calhoun Lane. Memorials may be sent to Yellowstone Assoc. for Retarded Citizens (YARC). 602 18th St. W., Billings, MT.

Jens Fredrick ‘Fred’ Petersen
REDDING, Calf. – Memorial services for Jens Fredrick “Fred” Petersen, 85, of Redding, Calf., formerly of the Lone Butte Community will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Sidney. Interment will be in the Lone Butte cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.

Gaynell ‘Gay’ Stevens
CODY, Wyo. – Gaynell Eva Stevens, 96, passed away Friday, July 28, 2000, in the Powell Nursing Home.
Gay was born in Winchester Va. on May 1, 1904to Andrew H. and Mary S. (Marple) Dunn. She moved to Cody Wyo. to join her brother, F.E. (Shorty) Dunn in 1927 and lived with him while she was a telephone operator from 1927 to 1928. She then worked at Oregon Basin Oil Field as a cook, where she met her husband Verne. They were married Aug. 12, 1930 in Cody.
She and Verne shared many outdoor activities ranging from hunting a wide variety of game, fishing, rock hunting, and archery. After retiring, she and Verne enjoyed several cruises, adding to their long list of many friends. Alaska was one of their favorite destinations because they enjoyed the wildlife and scenery so much. She and Verne have been long time members of the Elks Club in Cody. She served as President of the Does from 1962 to 1963.
She is survived by her husband, Verne Stevens of the Powell Beehive Home, her nephew, Ned Dunn and his wife Jeannie of Powell, her niece, Lou and husband Lee Hurt of Billings, grand nephews, Sean and Michael Dunn, and grand niece, Tiffanie May.
Gay was a cheerful person who always seemed to find the humor in any situation and enjoyed life to it’s fullest. We love you “Auntie” Gay, and will always remember your “hugs.”
Services will be held at 10a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Lenna D. Cramer Stork
Lenna was born to Henry and Ammie Cramer in Royalton, Minn. on May 14, 1905. At age 10, she moved by train with her family to Custer, Montana. Lenna attended Custer schools, graduating in 1924. She attended Billings Polytechnic and Dillon Normal School. She taught “one room schools” north of Waco and in big Horn county.
Lenna married Richard “Dick” Stork on Dec. 20, 1925 in Billings. Their home was in Custer, however they moved through out Montana and Wyoming. Dick was a dirt moving contractor, who built roads, dams and reservoirs. He later operated a trucking business. Lenna cooked for their work crews and church camps while raising her family. In 1940, she purchased the Custer Cafe'. Lenna and Dick purchased the Custer Hotel in 1945. Dick died in 1959. Lenna continued to operate the hotel until 1970 when she retired. Lenna moved to Worden, then to Sage Towers in Billings in 1986 She has resided since 1993 at St. John’s Lutheran Home for the past seven years.
Community improvement and education was important to Lenna. She was active in the Congregational Church, Sunday School and Ladies Aid Society. Lenna was a leader in 4H and Home Demonstration Clubs. She organized the Custer cemetery Association.
She served numerous terms on the school board. In retirement, she enjoyed the Rebecca Lodge RSVP, Gardening, traveling and visiting friends and family. Until her death she was the oldest alumnus of Custer High School.
Survivors include Alice Lorentz of Great Falls, Marjean Cole of Rawlings, Wyo. and Richard Stork of Chula Vista, Calf. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 3, at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment of cremains will follow at the Custer cemetery in Custer. Memorials may be sent to Custer cemetery C/O Marion Gremmans; Custer, MT 59024 or to St. John’s Rehabilitation Services; 3940 Rimrock Rd; Billings, MT 59102.

Peter Swan
Peter Louis Swan, 63, passed away at his home in Billings of a heart attack on Friday, July 28, 2000.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, at the Rocky Boy cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Albertson
WOLF POINT– Ernest Albertson, 93, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Faith Home from natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the First Lutheran Church. Viewing will be held at 12-7 p.m. Monday, July 31, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Greenwood cemetery.

Gus Henry Blencoe
Gus Henry Blencoe passed away Friday, July 28, 2000, of natural causes at Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings. He was born in Pipestone, Minn. on Jan. 31, 1924, the son of Claude and Johannah Blencoe.
Gus retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in Billings. He enjoyed the ranch with his friends, Jim and Virginia Sindelar, bird hunting, trapping and fishing.
Gus’s parents, and sister, Yvonne M. Johnson preceded him in death. His nephew, Wayne Johnson of Greybull, Wyo., and stepson, Steve Benesh of Billings, survive Gus. At Gus’s request, he will be cremated and no memorial services performed.

Judy Arlene Brewer
CODY, Wyo. – Judy Arlene Brewer, 54, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings from injuries received in a horse riding accident.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Ballard Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.

Georgetta Gonzales
HARDIN– Georgetta Gonzales, 80, of Hardin passed away Friday, July 28, 2000, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 21, 1920, in Hardin, a daughter of Laura Lucero. She received her education in Hardin and Lewistown.
Georgetta married Sylvester Gonzales in 1936 and the couple divorced in 1974. She was a dedicated mother who loved to read, dance and sew. She was very proud of the many accomplishments of her family.
She worked as the manager of the Hardin Wilson apartments for over 20 years. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Georgetta was preceded in death by a daughter; one sister; and five grandchildren.
Survivors include six daughters, Arlene O’Brien, of Bridger, Connie Schomer of Oklahoma, Rita Herman of Colstrip, Laura Hochhalter, Sylvia Erickson and Theresa Nedens of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Richard Gonzales of Hardin and David Gonzales of Oklahoma; one sister, Judy Chavez of Hardin; 29 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, July 31, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
