Glen Olson
MIDLAND, Texas – Glen Olson, 58, formerly of Glendive, Mont., died Thursday, March 16, 2000.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at the Dawson County cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles Samuel ‘Charlie’ Pierce
WHITE SULPHER SPRINGS – Charles Samuel “Charlie” Pierce of White Sulphur Springs passed away Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
He was the second son of Dorsey John and Mae L. Hagberg Pierce, born on Aug. 18, 1927, at Harlowton. He attended the Olaf School north of Two Dot and Harlowton. He grew up on the ranch north of Two Dot and became a teamster, mowing, buck raking and stacking hay, building dams with a fresno. He has had some great saddle horses during his lifetime. He used to tell about he and his brothers riding his Dad’s horse Dempsey that they were forbidden to ride, just as soon as the car disappeared around the point about a mile from the house. Milked cows like a house afire, a talent he had until cows were sold.
He served in the Navy and was discharged in August of 1946. He was always proud of the fact that he had served his country as his father had done.
On July 25, 1948, he married ElDonna Johnson. They celebrated their 50th anniversary two years ago. They lived in a rock house near Pray, where their two children, Kathleen and Doug were born.
Charlie was a school board member of Mill Creek Flat School for 12 years. They milked up to 40 cows (by hand no less), raised sheep and hogs and did custom haying and the kids learned to become as good a riders as their dad.
In 1970, they purchased the Old Saloon from Elmer and Ann Armstrong. They had a great business and met and kept many, many friends.
In 1974 they sold their place and returned to Harlowton where they ranched. In February 1979, Charlie became the foreman of the Bair Company Ranch at Martinsdale. They left the ranch in 1985 and moved into White Sulphur Springs, where they have lived since.
Charlie was a member of the Moose Lodge in Harlowton, the Senior Citizens in White Sulphur Springs and the Meagher County Rodeo Club. This organization is being his favorite. Anytime there was an activity he plowed up the arena, the latest being July 15th. He was the gate man for the rough stock contestants entering the arena at the “little white gate” on the north side of the arena.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, ElDonna; children, Kathleen (Calvin) Hochstrat and Douglas (Rita) Pierce; grandchildren, Russell and Kevin Hochstrat and Ryan, Rachel and Logan Pierce, all of White Sulphur Springs; two brothers, John (Jerry) Pierce of Livingston and Alvin (Gloria) Pierce; and a sister, Rose (David) Rigler of Pray; a special “son, ” Paul (Sandy) Thomae of Laurel, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at the Meagher County Rodeo grounds in White Sulphur Springs at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, the viewing will be at Twichel Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at the Harlowton cemetery, with military honors.
Memorials can be made to the Charlie Pierce Memorial Fund at First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 709, White Sulphur Springs, MT 59645, which will be used to help purchase a sound system for the high school gymnasium.

Ray E. Plum
SPRINGDALE – Ray E. Plum, 79, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at the Livingston Health and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 N. 3rd St. in Livingston. Following the services cremation will take place at Franzen-Davis Crematory.

Sterling Darwin ‘Speed’ Spiegelberg
CODY, Wyo. – Sterling Darwin “Speed” Spiegelberg, age 86, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at his home in Cody. He was born April 17, 1914, in Culbertson, Mont., the son of Emil Otto and Evangeline May Korlaskie Spiegelberg. Speed married Thelma Maxine Homer in Basin.
A resident of Cody for many years, Mr. Spiegelberg worked as a big game outfitter. In July of 2000, Speed authored and published a book, “125, 000 Miles On the Trail Of An Elk.”
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kefar Shrine Club, the Elks Lodge, the Boot and Bottle Club and First Presbyterian Church of Cody.
His survivors include his wife, Thelma, of Cody; two sons, Dean Spiegelberg and wife, Kay, of Bozeman, Mont., and Hale Spiegelberg and wife, Beverly, of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Lura Showman and Betty Cowan and husband, Dale, all of Cody; two sisters, Marguerite Bickel of Central Point, Ore., and Elvira Bergstrom of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Private family interment services will be held at Riverside cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Cody.
The family suggests those wishing may make memorial donations to Spirit Mountain Hospice, 707 Sheridan Avenue, Cody, WY 82414; The Shrine Travel Fund, for the Shrine Children’s Hospital, 1138A Rumsey Avenue, Cody, WY 82414; or the Children’s Resource Center and Special Touch Preschool, 808 North St., Cody, WY 82414 in Speed’s memory.

Thurman P. Thomas
Thurman P. Thomas, 89, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital on July 21, 2000. He had been a resident of St. John’s Lutheran Home.
He was born in Billings to Gabe and Tenny (Trott) Thomas on Jan. 10, 1911. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Philippines at Leyte and Manila. After working a lifetime, Thurman retired in 1973 as superintendent of the Billings Laundry.
Thurman is survived by his wife, Anna Thomas; and daughter, Deanna. His parents; three sisters; and two brothers preceded him in death.
A private family burial will be held at Holy Cross cemetery on Wednesday, July 26, 2000. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Dahl Funeral Chapel will be in charge of arrangements.

Samuel F. Thompson
BELGRADE – Samuel F. Thompson, 94, died Saturday July 22, 2000, at his home in Belgrade of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Cremation Society of Montana.

Clifford A. Barbee
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Clifford Allen Barbee, 68, died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his home.
Private family services will be this Sunday in the Big Horn Mountains Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary M. Lochridge
BUTTE – Mary M. Lochridge passed away peacefully at a local nursing home on Friday morning.
She was born Mary Margaret Fagan to parents, Michael and Julia (Lynch) Fagan in Dugger, Ind., on March 5, 1908.
She lived in the Columbus area since age 2 and graduated from college at Billings Polytechnic, which became Rocky Mountain College.
She married Art Indreland in 1928 and they later divorced. She worked as an accountant in Billings for many years. She married David Lochridge on July 12, 1959. They lived in Billings, Missoula and Bozeman while owning and operating different hotels and motels. They moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1970 and spent many years of leisure living there. Her husband, Dave, died in 1978 and Mary remained in Mesa until May 1 of this year when she moved to Butte.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dave and by brothers, Daniel Fagan and Malachy Fagan.
She is survived by her stepson, Ed Lochridge of Estes Park, Colo.; stepdaughter, Willa Jean and Bob Blomgren of Republic, Wash.; nephews, John and Marian Fagan of Butte and Jerry and Telma Fagan of Mesa; numerous great- and great- great- nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lochridge’s remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home where there will be no wake or visitation. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock at Mountain View cemetery in Columbus. The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mary Bice Marvin
RED LODGE – Mary Bice Marvin, longtime resident of Red Lodge, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at Beartooth Hospital & Health Center at the age of 93. She had lived independently with her dog Brandy at her home on South Haggin until the last few weeks of her life.
She was born Anna Mary Bice on Sept. 3, 1906, on an island in the Missouri River in Lyman County, S.D., a daughter of Charles and Sara Sommer Bice. She attended elementary and high school in Oacoma, and later worked for a local attorney and the local telephone company. Possessed of natural musical talent, she was playing piano at the local silent movie theater when a dance band nearby needed a replacement piano player. She took the job and later married the band leader, Bert Connery, in Cody, Neb.
As the Connery Rainbow Orchestra they provided musical entertainment throughout the Dakotas and Eastern Montana. She and Bert were later divorced.
On June 20, 1932, she married Jerry P. Marvin, and they moved to Red Lodge that fall. The first time she saw the beauty of the Red Lodge area she said she knew immediately that she wanted to spend the rest of her life here.
In Red Lodge she continued her musical career for awhile with two bands, Mary’s Music Masters and the Polka Dots, playing regularly at the Frontier Club. Later, she gave piano lessons in her home and did substitute teaching. For fifteen years she was church organist at the Red Lodge Community Church and was active in church work. She was a lifelong member of the Elks Does and served as their drill team pianist. Mary was also an active volunteer at the local hospital and nursing homes. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972.
Survivors include two step-sons, Robert Marvin of Drake, N.D., and George Marvin of San Jose, Calif.; six step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Joyce Steele of Brewster, Wash., and Gertrude Bice Hunt of Lakewood, Colo.; two nephews, Charles B. Benson of Auburn, Wash., and Don Wilson of Spokane, Wash.; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
In accordance with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice. The Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge is in charge of arrangements.

Henry W. Oelschlager
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Henry W. Oelschlager, 87, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Sheridan Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Champion funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Charlie S. Pierce
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS – Charlie S. Pierce, 72, died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his home.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the Meagher County Rodeo Grounds in White Sulphur Springs. A coffee hour will follow and interment will be in the Harlowton cemetery in Harlowton. Viewing will be held Saturday through Tuesday and Wednesday before 9:30 a.m. at Twichel Funeral Home.

Elden S. Streeter
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Elden Steve Streeter, 51, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, at the First Presbyterian Church with cremation to follow. Interment of the ashes with military honors will be held at a later date in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Alan J. Thomas
Alan J. Thomas, age 36, of Billings went to be with his Lord July 15, 2000. Alan was a man with a life full of many ups and downs; despite his struggles he still loved us. He worked hard to be happy, and he tried to follow God. We dearly love you always, Alan! God Bless You!
Survivors include his parents, Mike and Bonnie Thomas and his son, David of Billings; sisters, Maria (Glenn) Kuhel of Phoenix, Sally (Scoff) Wahl of Three Forks, Barbara (Dene) Halle of Phoenix, Ann (Steve) Krump of Portland, Carrie (Mac) Lavier of Portland, Bonnie Rose (Chris) Welles of San Francisco; brothers, Michael and David of Billings; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents and several cousins.
Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 21, at St. Pius X. Mass of Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at St. Pius X. Interment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
Memorials may be made to: Montana Rescue Mission, 2822 Minnesota Ave., Billings, MT 59101. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Janet M. Cameron
Janet M. Cameron, 85, of Billings passed away on Friday, June 9, 2000, at Aspen Meadows.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 180 24th Street W. Cremation has taken place. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Escarcega
WIOTA – Joseph Escarcega, 69, died on July 18, 2000, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, N.D., due to complications from lung cancer.
Viewing will be at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 21, with a vigil service at 5:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery in Frazer. A meal will follow interment at the Frazer Community Hall.

Dennis Andrew Gear
Dennis Andrew Gear passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000. Dennis was born in Stevens Point, Wis., on July 6, 1949, to Jack D. and Margaret Lewine (Boschert) Gear. At the age of two his family moved to Billings. Dennis graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1968 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1972.
After an honorable discharge, Dennis went to work for the Parks Department in Fort Collins, Colo., working there for five years until his health began to fail. He returned to Billings where he has resided since.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret; his daughter, Sara; his son, Shane and his wife, Regina Reinhardt and his brother, Phil Gear.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings is in charge of arrangements.
