Mary Judith Gossack
LEWISTOWN – Mary Judith “Judy” Gossack died Thursday, July 20, at the Central Montana Medical Center after a fight with cancer.
Vigil services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday in St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Funeral Liturgy will be Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Leo’s with interment to follow in Mount Calvary cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Maynard Hedge
SUN CITY, Calif. – Services for Maynard Hedge were held July 20, 2000, at Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City. Born in Daglum, N.D., May 6, 1917, Mr. Hedge passed away at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Hemet on July 18, 2000.

Charlie R. Howey
RANCHESTER, Wyo. – Charlie R. Howey, 81, formerly of Alzada, Mont., died on July 19, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Sheridan.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Stevenson’s Funeral Home in Baker, Mont. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. in the Alzada Community cemetery.

Ted N. Lange
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Ted Norman Lange, 52, died on Friday, July 7, 2000, at his residence.
Cremation has taken place and his remains will be scattered across the Grand Tetons in Wyoming as per his wishes. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 25, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adam, Minn. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Bice Marvin
RED LODGE – Mary Bice Marvin, longtime resident of Red Lodge, died Monday, July 11, 2000, at Beartooth Hospital & Health Center at the age of 93. She had lived independently with her dog Brandy at her home on South Haggin until the last few weeks of her life.
She was born Anna Mary Bice on Sept. 3, 1906, on an island in the Missouri River in Lyman County, S.D., a daughter of Charles and Sara Sommer Bice. She attended elementary and high school in Qacoma, and later worked for a local attorney and the local telephone company. Possessed of natural musical talent, she was playing piano at the local silent movie theater when a dance band nearby needed a replacement piano player. She took the job and later married the band leader, Bert Connery, in Cody, Neb.
As the Connery Rainbow Orchestra they provided musical entertainment throughout the Dakotas and Eastern Montana. She and Bert were later divorced.
On June 20, 1932, she married Jerry P. Marvin, and they moved to Red Lodge that fall. The first time she saw the beauty of the Red Lodge area she said she knew immediately that she wanted to spend the rest of her life here.
In Red Lodge she continued her musical career for awhile with two bands, Mary’s Music Masters and the Polka Dots, playing regularly at the Frontier Club. Later, she gave piano lessons in her home and did substitute teaching. For fifteen years she was church organist at the Red Lodge Community Church and was active in church work. She was a lifelong member of the Elks Does and served as their drill team pianist. Mary was also an active volunteer at the local hospital and nursing homes. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972.
Survivors include two step-sons, Robert Marvin of Drake, N.D., and George Marvin of San Jose, Calif.; six step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Joyce Steele of Brewster, Wash., and Gertrude Bice Hunt of Lakewood, Colo.; two nephews, Charles B. Benson of Auburn, Wash., and Don Wilson of Spokane, Wash.; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
In accordance with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice. The Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge is in charge of arrangements.

Sterling ‘Speed’ Spiegelberg
CODY, Wyo. – Sterling Darwin “Speed” Spiegelberg, age 86, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at his home in Cody.
Private family interment services will be held at Riverside cemetery. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3401 Sheridan Ave., in Cody.
The family suggests memorials be made to Spirit Mountain Hospice, 707 Sheridan Ave., Cody, The Shrine Travel Fund for the Shrine Children’s Hospital, 1138A Rumsey Ave., Cody or The Children’s Resource Center and Special Touch Preschool, 808 North St., Cody, WY 82414.

Howard ‘Bud’ Steele
WORLAND, Wyo. – Howard R. “Bud” Steele, 82, died at his home on July 17, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 24, at the United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery. Veile Mortuary is in charge.

Gordon E. Waller
FROMBERG – Gordon E. Waller died on July 18, 2000, at the St. Vincent Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. He went quietly in the company of his loving family.
Gordon was born on Oct. 18, 1947, in North Platte, Neb., son of Ernest Gordon and Betty Waller. His younger years were spent on the family farm near North Platte. These years instilled in Gordon a love of the land and animals.
Gordon attended a country school south of North Platte, graduated from North Plane High School and North Platte Community College in 1967 and South East Nebraska Community College in 1969.
Gordon’s career for his lifetime was as a locomotive engineer. He worked for Union Pacific and then later for Montana Rail Link. He was always proud of being the one to “blow the whistle and ring the bell!”
Gordon was a very special man who had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep and abiding love for his family and friends. Gordon was a member of Locomotive Engineer BLE. Gordon was also a partner in the Clark’s Fork Pioneer Newspaper up until it closed on Dec. 31, 1999. He took pride in his community activities.
Preceding Gordon in death were his father, Ernest Waller; sister, Debbie Waller; grandparents, Lloyd and Irene Bowling and Iva and Marie Waller.
Surviving Gordon is his wife, Carol of Fromberg; mother and father, Bob and Betty Lien of Billings; sons, Jeremy of Fromberg and James of Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughters, Laurie I. Fritts of Boulder, and Jacqueline Griffin of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and John Fraser of Soquel, Calif.; step-brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Vickie Lien of Omaha, Neb.; and two nephews, Chase and Max Fraser, also of Soquel.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel, Mont., at 10 a.m. Friday, July 21.

Joseph Wetzel
GLENDIVE – Joseph Wetzel, 68, died on Thursday, July 20, 2000, at the Glendive Medical Center.
Visitation will be held at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive on Saturday, July 22, from 3-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at the Evangelical Congregational Church in Glen Ullin, N.D. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Glen Ullin cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home and Spangelo Funeral Home are in charge.

Harry E. Belden Sr.
Harry E. Belden, Sr. died en route to St. Vincent Hospital early Wednesday morning, July 19, 2000. He had lived for 70 years.
Harry was born in Billings on Nov. 19, 1929, the son of Lyle and Ethel (Cornell) Bel-den. Following his education, he began work at Midland Packing before enlisting in the Air Force in 1951. He was trained in armament and was honorably discharged in December of 1954 having attained the rank of staff sergeant.
On June 6, 1954, Harry married Grace Helen Lerche in Billings and together they adopted a 6-day-old baby boy, Harry E. Belden II. Mr. Belden continued his work with Midland Packing until it closed the first time while, at the same time, raising their son as a single parent due to the sudden death of Grace in June of 1970.
Harry’s love of life and people was obvious. He enjoyed playing bingo and caring for the flowers and vegetables in his yard. He and his son traveled 48 states while they fished the streams, lakes and oceans of the country he so proudly served. A flag flew in front of the Belden home on every holiday.
Survivors include his son, Harry Belden II, his beloved granddaughter, Kassanddra Sharon Belden, numerous nieces and nephews, and close friend, Jay Denda. Mr. Belden was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Lyle Paul Belden Jr., a sister, Dorothy Langstaff, his parents and his wife.
Visitations will begin Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 24, at Smith Downtown Chapel with military honors and interment to follow at Mountview cemetery. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

M. Dorcas Curtiss
M. Dorcas Curtiss, 85, of Billings passed away Monday evening July 16, 2000, at the Deaconess Hospital following a long illness.
She was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Gilt Edge, Mont., the daughter of Irving J. Cole and Edith Grace Allen Cole. She was raised at Fort Peck and was a school teacher for years.
She married Roland Curtiss June 12, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1992.
In 1954, she began teaching at Eastern Montana College and training teachers. She retired in 1960 and began selling stocks and bonds for IDS 2 1/2 years. She then ran a vending business until 1983.
She is survived by one sister, Bernice M. Farris of Billings and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Meryl Burroughs.
At her request, there will be no services and cremation will take place with private interment of her ashes in the Park City cemetery. Smith Downtown Chapel in charge of arrangements.

JoAnn Freier
JoAnn Freier, 56, passed away at home Wednesday morning, July 19, 2000, after a very courageous battle with leukemia. Her faith and positive attitude carried her through life. She was a true inspiration to those who knew and loved her.
JoAnn was born in Pine Bluffs, Wyo., on July 9, 1944, the daughter of Luther and El-sie Eggers. The family moved to Johnstown, Neb., in 1945 where she grew up and was educated. JoAnn graduated from North Platte Beauty Academy in 1963 and worked as a cosmetologist in Ainsworth, Neb., before moving to Billings in 1965.
JoAnn was married to Larry Sanger in 1964 and they adopted a son, Brian, in 1970. The marriage ended in 1987.
She had worked in the beauty industry until August 1999 when ill health forced her to quit. From 1965 until 1983, she worked for Marian Meyers and then purchased the salon from Marian and owned and operated Reflections Hair and Nails until July 1997, at which time she sold but maintained a lease position. JoAnn loved her work and many of her clients became like family members to her.
On Feb. 14, 1996, JoAnn married Donald H. Freier, who had become her very best friend, camping buddy and most rival fishing partner.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Don, who was by her side constantly through this brave fight; her father, Luther Eggers of Ainsworth, Neb.; son, Brian Sanger of Valentine, Neb.; step-daughter, Gayle (Mark) Bauer of Billings; step-son, Keith (Annette) Freier of Kennewick, Wash.; sister, Carolyn (Dvid) Welty of Pensacola, Fla.; brothers, Charles (LeAnn) Eggers of Elgin, Neb., Kenneth (Jackie) Eggers of Ainsworth, and Keith (Diane) Eggers of Euless, Texas. Also surviving are step-grandchildren, Adam and Mandi Bauer and Meghann and Hannah Freier; nine nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors, too numerous to mention. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Eggers.
Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery and casket will be open at the church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1603 St. Andrews in Billings, with burial in Mountview cemetery. Arrangements by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107 or Our Savior Lutheran Church Stained Glass Fund, in JoAnn’s memory.

Dennis Andrew Gear
Dennis Andrew Gear passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000. Dennis was born in Stevens Point, Wis., on July 6, 1949, to Jack D. and Margaret Lew-ine (Bashert) Gear. At the age of two his family moved to Billings. Dennis graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1968 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1972.
After an honorable discharge, Dennis went to work for the Parks Department in Fort Collins, Colo., working there for five years until his health began to fail. He returned to Billings where he has resided since.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret; his daughter, Sara; his son, Shane and his wife, Regina Reinhardt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Memorial services well be held at a later date. Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings is in charge of arrangements.

Marah Grist
TERRY – Graveside services for Marah Grist, 80, of Pharr, Texas, formerly of Terry, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, in the Prairie County cemetery in Terry. Stevenson & sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge.

Jack Keele Sr.
Jack Keele Sr. passed away July 12, 2000, at a local hospital. He was born March 12, 1952, in Billings, the son of James W. Keele and Celesta Fay Eastman. He went into the army on June 28, 1970, and was and received a medical discharge eight months later. He enjoyed fishing, pinochle, car racing, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Keele; four sons, Jack Keele Jr., Rick Keele, William Keele, and Randy Keele; two brothers, Ray Keele and Bob Keele; four sisters, Betty Gable, Doris Reicher, Lola Waid and Ruth Buckmiller; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and brother, Jim Keele.
“We will always love and miss you in our hearts.”
Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Rockvale cemetery.

Tyler Jack Malcolm
LIVINGSTON – Tyler Jack Malcolm, 4 1/2-month-old son of Chad and Jessi Malcolm died early Monday morning, July 17, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident on Sunday evening. Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory in Livingston. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 21, at St. John’s Episcopal Church at Emigrant, Mont. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home.
Tyler was born Feb. 28, 2000, in Bozeman where he lived with his parents until the family moved to the Malcolm family ranch at Emigrant in May. Tyler was always a happy baby and had just learned to laugh. Already recognizing his family, he was constantly looking for his sister, Mariah, whom he adored. He brought great joy to his family and will always be remembered for affectionately cuddling his Winnie the Pooh blanket.
Those who loved and will deeply miss Tyler are his parents, Chad and Jessi Malcolm and his sister, Mariah, all of the family ranch at Emigrant; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Jacque Roberts of Frederick, Md.; his paternal grandparents, Bruce and Connie Malcolm of Emigrant; his maternal great-grandparents, Mary Conley-Ludke of Eureka, Calif., and Roy and Mary Jane Roberts of Midpines, Calif.; his paternal great-grandmother, Eril Merrell of Pine Creek, south of Livingston, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
