Clarence Robert ‘Bob’ Groscop
Clarence Robert (Bob) Groscop, age 73, of Billings died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Ballantine, Mont., on June 13, 1927, the son of Carl and Katherine Groscop. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army the same year and served in Korea and Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
On Dec. 28, 1947, Bob married Esther Hoffman. Bob and Esther lived in Billings and started a family. He drove a delivery truck for Ryan Grocery. In 1958, they purchased the Rosebud Mercantile which they owned and operated until 1967. Returning to Billings, Bob hauled grain for G.D. Eastlick for a short time before driving for Wilbur Sheely for 10 years. Bob then purchased the truck and became owner/operator leasing through G.D. Eastlick.
During his trucking years, he was known on the CB radio as “Big Head”, the German translation of Groscop. Bob retired from trucking after 30 years and over three million accident-free miles.
From your wife, sister, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild and extended family, “You will be greatly missed and you will always be in our hearts.”
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Esther; sons, Don (Becky) Groscop and Dennis Groscop; daughters, Sharon (Tom) Tripp and Charolette (Joe) Nedens, all of Billings; a sister, Shirley Vashler of Billings; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elsie Kober and Arlene Schuck; a son, James and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at Smith’s West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Interment will follow at Mountview cemetery. Visitation will start 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Jack E. Keele
Jack E. Keele, 48, of Billings, died July 12, 2000, at a local hospital. Visitation is Tuesday, July 18, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cremation will take place. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Rockvale cemetery.

Daniel Loomis
BRUSSET, Mont. – Daniel Loomis, 81, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2000, while celebrating his birthday, fishing on the Ghost Creek at Fort Peck 53 miles west of Jordan with his grandsons, Ryan and Rory.
Visitation will be held from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the VFW Hall in Jordan. Interment will follow in the Pioneer cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Marie McGillen
RED LODGE – Florence Marie McGillen, 77, of Red Lodge, Mont., died at the Beartooth Nursing home on Saturday, July 15, 2000, after a long period of poor health.
She was born May 17, 1923, at Red Lodge, a daughter of Ruth (Castle) McGillen and Anthony Robert (Pete) McGillen.
She attended schools in Red Lodge and graduated from Carbon County High School in 1943. She was a resident of Red lodge all her life..
Florence was employed at Favero’s Mercantile from 1943 to 1973. Later she worked at the Red Lodge CafÈ and City Bakery. Due to illness, she retired in 1984 residing in her home, 401 South Grant, until August of 1998 when she entered the Beartooth Nursing Home.
She was active in the Methodist Church as secretary and treasurer in her younger years.
She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and reading until she lost her sight. She went fishing whenever the opportunity arose. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a jovial answer for everything.
Survivors are a sister, Delores Herbert of Billings; nephews, Darrell L. McGillen, his wife and family of Laurel, David Long and daughter of Billings, Dennis Long, wife and family of Park City; niece, Patricia Emly, husband and family of Fairview; and a brother-in-law, Eric Long of Billings.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers..
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Olcott Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the John Henry cemetery northwest of Red Lodge.

Dee Ray Peterson
COWLEY, Wyo. – The light of this world became a little dimmer July 16, 2000, with the passing of Dee Ray Peterson. Dee died at the Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings, Mont., where he had been airlifted after his heart stopped following knee replacement surgery on June 29. Dee was born June 16, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and spent his life in Cowley, Wyo. Dee’s life was spent tirelessly working for and serving others, this influence has been felt far beyond his home town. At his passing, Dee was president and CEO of the Office Shop Inc., a company Dee built with his own hands in 1970, mayor of the town of Cowley, of which he had served four terms, and Stake Mission President for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dee was preceded in death by his parents Ren and Laura Peterson, and is survived by the love of his life, LeRose Peterson; sister, Loa Jean; seven children, Cindy Schmidt, Randall Peterson, Joel Peterson, Ray Peterson, Ken Peterson, Curt Peterson, and Laurel Wicke; 20 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 21, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cowley, Wyo. Interment will be at the Cowley cemetery following the services. A viewing will be held Thursday evening at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell from 7 to 9p.m. A memorial fund has been established at the Cowley History Center.
His wisdom and capacity to love will be so missed.

Ethel F. Moore Pittenger
GLASGOW – Ethel F. Moore Pittenger, 88, died July 16, 2000 of natural causes at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.
No services are planned at her request. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Gregory A. Righter
CLYDE PARK – Gregory A. Righter, 54, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 13, 2000.
A private visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston. Cremation will follow at the Franzen-Davis Crematory. Graveside committal service and burial of the cremated remains will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Montana State Veterans cemetery at Fort Harrison with Military Honors.

Elsie Marlene Harstad
Elsie Marlene Harstad, 59, of Billings passed away Friday afternoon, July 14, 2000, at Valley Health Care Center from renal cell carcinoma. She was born June 30, 1941, at Forsyth, the daughter of Albert and Marie Harstad.
The family moved to Billings in the Spring of 1945. Elsie attended school at Taft, Garfield, and Senior High School before moving to Butte and graduating from Butte High School in 1959. She was employed until 1985 by Dun and Bradstreet primarily as a business credit reporter.
Elsie spent much time caring for her mother and was a devoted daughter who sacrificed much for her mother. She was active in community affairs. She began the neighborhood task force and was on the community development board. She was also on the board of the first juvenile detention facility in Montana. Elsie was a member of the Holy Rosary Church.
After her mother passed away, she went to college, graduating from Eastern Montana College with a degree in human service and from the University of Minnesota with a master’s degree in social work. Elsie enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, and her home. She was a real home body. She was a very caring and sensitive person.
Survivors include her three half-sisters, Ruth Dilley of Billings, Virginia Gauthier of Laurel, and Bonnie Haley of Lewistown; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one nephew, Steven; and one niece, Rita. Elsie developed great faith and love of God during her illness.
Visitation will begin 3 p.m. Sunday July 16, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. A Vigil Service will be held 7 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at Holy Rosary Church with Rite of Committal in Terrace Gardens cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Big Sky Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.

George “Ice” Austin Monroy
PRYOR – ASUHXAAPBIA, George “Ice” Austin Monroy, 17, went home to be with the Lord, July 15, 2000, from injures sustained in a car accident. George was born Aug. 2, 1982 to Carlos & Marilyn Monroy. He grew up in Pryor, attending St. Charles Mission school. George graduated from Plenty Coup high school in the year 2000. While attending Plenty Coup high school he was an Honor Roll Student and an outstanding athlete. George participated in football, cross-country, track, and was a four-year letterman on the basketball team. His junior and senior years, George received numerous awards for his basketball talent including All-Conference and All-State, and represented the Southern C district at the Radisson Classic this last spring. George spent his off the court time cruising with his family and friends, and working on cars, he was affection-ally called “Ice”, because of his awesome finger-roll. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
George is survived by his parents, Carlos & Marilyn Monroy; sisters, Carlotta (Darrell) Lefthand, Kathlene (Travis) Dorsey, and his special baby sister, Calista; brothers, Carlos Jr. (Ada), Adam, and Kevin; his niece and nephew whom he loved dearly, Darrelyn, and Darnell Lefthand; grandparents, Kenneth and Theresa Haun who raised George during his high school years; Larry and Gwen Plain Bull Sr., Paul Monroy; Great-grandmothers, Evelyn Old Elk, Elizabeth Smart Enemy, Sarah Shane, Ada Rides Horse, great grandparents, Vincent and Anna Goes Ahead, numerous grandparents, Owen and Rita Snell, Etheleen (Donald) Dreamer, Irene and Pete Gook Luck, David (Lenora) Turns Plenty, Margaret and Leon Rides Horse, George and Diane Old Elk Jr., Dora Rides Horse, Dan (Carlene) Old Elk, Andrew (Janet) Old Elk, Clayton (Georgeiane) Old Elk, John Old Elk, Larry (Carol) Old Elk; aunts, Laurie (Garland) Door, Dorcella (Greg) Half, Carla (James) Wilson, Sr., Marya, Kathy (Rickey Jr.) Fighter raised him as her own, Carol (Chuck) Heat, Norma (Channis) Whiteman, Jennifer (Lawrence) Flat Lip Jr., uncles, Bert (Cornelia) Plain Bull, Fred (Tina) Plain Bull, Richard Monroy, Larry (Priscalla) Cunningham; Tony (Alma) Davis, Victor (Janice) Singer, and a special friend Talitha White Plume.
He was preceded in death by great-grandmother, Catherine Smells, Alvin Bird Hat Jr.; great-grandfather, George Old Elk, Great-father Caleb Plain Bull, Cyril and Frank Plain Bull, and uncle, Aaron Monroy. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and his outstanding ability in basketball. WE LOVE YOU, GEORGIE!
Visitation Monday, July 17, 8-9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 18, 8-9 p.m. Vigil services Tuesday, July 18, 6 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Plenty Coup High School’s Gym in Pryor. Interment Pryor cemetery. Dahl Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Warren J. Krogstad
Warren J. Krogstad, 89 of Billings, retired operator of a local television repair shop, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Krogstad, a native of Kenmore, N.D., was raised in Great Falls and was employed as a lithographer by the Great Falls Tribune before moving to Billings in 1941 to take a position with Western Litho, where he was employed until 1972. After completing a correspondence course in electronics, he started Warren’s TV on a part time basis in 1957 and operated it full time at 746 Miles from 1972 until his retirement in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ilene; daughters, Karen Paulson of Torrance, Calif., and Sharon Krogstad of Enumclaw, Wash.; two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Services are pending, with Cremation or Funeral Home handing arrangements.

Robert C. Derry
POWELL, Wyo. – Robert C. Derry, 81, a lifelong resident of Powell, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2000, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Billings, Mont.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Crown Hill cemetery in Powell. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Marie McGillen

Julio C. Brady, Jr.
ASHLAND – Julio C. Brady, Jr. left this life July 13, 2000. He was born July 13, 1997, by the nine mile marker on Highway 212.
Survivors include his father, Julio C. Brady, Sr. of Lame Deer; his mother, Kathryn Stern Brady of Ashland; sister, Kalisha Runsabout of Ashland; grandparent, Estelle (Emery) Bearcomesout of Ashland; late grandparents, Imogene Brady and Bernadine ShoulderBlade; also great-grandparents, John (Loretta) Collins, Mary YelloFox, Elmer (Margaret) Brady, Sr., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, in the St. Labre Catholic Mission, in Ashland. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, in the St. Labre Catholic Mission, in Ashland. Interment will follow in the mission cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Montana ‘Monty’ Torgerson Piercy
WOLF POINT – Montana ‘Monty’ Torgerson Piercy, 85, died on Feb. 16, 2000, at the Faith Home in Wolf Point.
Inurnment of cremated remains with graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, in Wolf Point at Greenwood cemetery, with Elks Chaplain Jim Patch officiating. Clayton Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

George D. Reicher
LAUREL – George D. Reicher, 40, was born in Red Lodge, Feb. 14, 1960, quietly passed away July 15, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Reicher of Laurel; his father, Alfred G. Reicher, Sr. of Fromberg; his brothers, Alfred G. Reicher, Jr., James M. Reicher and Brian S. Reicher; his sisters, Susan J. Reicher, Bonnie G. Reicher, Goldie F. Tompson, Donna J. Reicher and Debra K. Reicher; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed!
Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at 2704 Atchison Drive in Laurel.

Margaret G. Rubis Kukla
CODY, Wyo. – Margaret G. Rubis Kukla, 79, formerly of Worland and Meeteetse, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at the West Park Long Term Care Center.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Worland, Wyo. Interment of the cremains will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery. Veile Mortuary is in charge.

Marjorie Jane (Flocken) Bryan
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Marjorie Jane (Flocken) Bryan passed away at her home Friday evening, July 14, 2000, in the loving company of her family after a courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of Fred Flocken and Bertha (Hull) Flocken, Marjorie was born on June 26, 1928, in Olney, Ill. In her youth, her family moved to Peoria, Ill., where Marjorie grew up and attended school, including Bradley University.
She married Robert L. Bryan on June 8, 1951, in Peoria. Marjorie was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. In 1966, Robert and Marjorie moved with their four children to Billings. She loved Montana and the mountains of the West, and enjoyed camping with her family in the Red Lodge area. She loved traveling, reading, and good conversation, especially current events and politics.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Martha A. Jensen. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert; three daughters, Kristyn Bryan of Billings, Karin J. Gilroy and her husband Michael, of Battle Ground, Wash., Kimberly S. Shelton and her husband Steven, of Billings; and a son, Kevan F. Bryan and his wife Cynthia, of Billings; and six grandchildren, Kiley, Lauren and Megan Shelton and Keith, Gregory, and Jennifer Bryan.
It has been a privilege and a blessing to have such an intelligent, loving, gentle, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother in our family. Her quick wit and sense of humor stayed with her throughout her struggle. She has been and always will be an inspiration to us. We all love her so.
AFTER GLOW I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when day is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the way of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done. Author Unknown.
A memorial service will beheld at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at Michelotti, Sawyers, and Nordquist, 1001 Alderson Avenue. Cremation will take place. Private family interment will be at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.
Our family wishes to express our appreciation to the many wonderful people at Big Sky Hospice, particularly her two very special caregivers, Ben Hoffman and Becky Madison.
