Jay Roberts
KENNEDY, Minn. – Jay Roberts, 94, formerly of Lambert, Mont., died at his daughter’s home Tuesday, July 11, 2000.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church at Lambert. Interment will be in the Lambert cemetery. Visitation will be at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Sidney, Mont., on Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

M. Eileen Vincelette
HOUSTON – M. Eileen Vincelette died in Houston on July 4, 2000, from congestive heart failure. Eileen, the daughter of A. T. and Mary Scovel, was born on July 25, 1920, in Billings where she spent most of her life. She attended Fratt Memorial School, Billings Senior High School and Billings Business College.
She worked for Ohio National Life Insurance Company until they transferred out of Billings. She also worked for Carter Oil Co. (now Exxon) for many years. Eileen participated in the HOST school program and was a pink lady volunteer for seven years.
In 1952, she married Bill Groves who died in 1957. In 1960, she married Roy E. Vincelette who died in 1976. Eileen left Montana in 1996 for Florida to be near her sister-in-law, Claire Scovel, and moved to Houston a year later to be near her stepson.
Preceding Eileen in death were her two husbands and a brother, James A. Scovel. a captain in the United States Navy.
Eileen is survived by her stepchildren; Renee Sheehan of Billings, James Vincelette of Tomball, Texas, Richard Vincelette of Healdsburg, Calif.; several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Eileen loved her flowers, especially her rose garden that she maintained behind her home in Billings on Clark Avenue.
Memorial services will be held in Billings at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 11 am. on Monday, July 17, 2000. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Benjamin ‘Ben’ Weldon
"Our five senses are incomplete without the sixth – a sense of humor.”
WOODBURN, Ore. – Benjamin Orville “Ben” Weldon was born May 3, 1917, in his parents’ homestead cabin on Moonshine Creek, a tributary of Blue Creek, south of Billings. He was the third child of Orville and Elizabeth (Pfaff) Weldon. Ben passed away June 28, 2000, in Salem after an extended and spirited battle with cancer.
Ben was raised on Blue Creek, educated at Basin Creek School and Billings High School, graduating in 1935. In addition to regular ranch work while growing up, he helped with the Weldon Dairy in the ’30s. Ben, along with three of his brothers, delivered milk in Billings on their way to high school each morning. Some of the deliveries included Olson’s Sanitary Grocery, Deaconess Hospital, Brannon’s CafČ, and several personal residences. After graduation, he was employed at the 29th Street Hamburger Shop (later, Novasio’s) and Keil Grocery Co.
Ben married Mary Bury in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in the spring of 1946. By this time they had two sons, Robert “Bob” and Kent “Kenny.” They moved to Red Lodge, Mont., where Ben was again employed by Keil Co. In 1951, they transferred back to Billings, continuing with Keil Co. A third son, Thomas “Tom, ” completed their family.
Ben was later employed by B.F. Goodrich Co. in Billings, transferring to Eugene in 1964. Mary passed away there in 1968. Ben married Cindora “Cindy” Cave Smith in 1973 in Vancouver, Wash. Following retirement in 1982, they moved to Sherwood, Ore., and eventually settled in Woodburn.
Ben approached each day with a smile, ready to share a laugh and his quick wit. His family and friends will always remember and cherish his jovial personality, great sense of humor, and the devilish twinkle in his eye. Ben enjoyed life, his family, his many friends, woodworking, a good round of golf, bowling and was an avid boxing fan. He was a life member of the Gresham Elks. He treasured his annual trips back to Montana with the family gatherings at the home ranch on Blue Creek, where his family always looked forward to his return. Ben has returned home one last time and will rest at the homestead site where he was born 83 years ago.
Thank you, Ben, for brightening our lives and making us laugh.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Elizabeth Weldon, an infant sister, Hazel Weldon, a brother, Charles “Chuck” Weldon (in WWII), his first wife, Mary Weldon, a son, Kent Weldon, and a grandson, Steven Weldon. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Weldon of Woodburn; his sons, Bob Weldon Sr. (Deanna) of Dallas, Texas, and Tom of Billings; his daughter-in-law, Loy Weldon of Billings; his stepchildren, Dale Smith (Marilyn) of Hermiston, Ore., Winston Smith (Tanya) of Orlando, Fla., Allen Smith (Jan) of Boise, Idaho, and Shannon Painter (Roland) of Tigard, Ore.; his grandchildren, Christine Weldon Brannon, Robert “Bob” Weldon Jr., Paul Weldon, and Ben Weldon; his step grandchildren, Dustin, Maisie, Grady and Riley Smith, Kelly and Kristie Painter, Sean and Josh Williams, Jessie Smith, Nicole and Anthony Burritt Smith; eight great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; his brothers and sisters, George (Doris), Clinton (Marge), Maeona Smith (Frank), Delores Propp, and Richard “Dick” (Monica), and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 16, at The Perfect Place, 3603 O’Shea Circle, on Blue Creek, south of Billings. A reception will follow. Memorials may be sent to Williamette Valley Hospice, 2700 Market St. NE, Salem, OR 97301.

Myrtle M. Carlson
Myrtle M. Carlson, 82 passed away Monday, July 10, 2000, after brief illness. She was born in Acton, Mont., on Sept. 24, 1918 to Bunion Frank and Ida Mae Hendricks. Myrtle was raised and went to school in Hesper, Mont. and graduated from Billings Senior High School.
She married Eldon R. Carlson, June 21, 1937. After she raised her family she worked as a sales representative for Montana Dakota Utilities from 1955 till her retirement in 1976.
Myrtle was a member of Chapter No. 877 Women of the Moose, Billings Elk Lodge No. 394, Order of Eastern Star and Lake Hills Golf Course. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and greatly enjoyed her husband of 63 years.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Hendricks and sister, Amy L. Bracken. Survivors include her husband, Eldon; sister, Ermie Malmstrom/Michele; brother-in-law, Marlin Carlson; sisters-in-law, Fern Harmon and Arlene Burtch; daughter, Diane Stratton/Rogers and her children; sons, Ronald E. Carlson, his wife Diana and their children and Alvin Ben Carlson, his wife Daisy and their children. Also surviving are 30 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment will follow at Mountview cemetery. Viewing will start Thursday, 1-9 p.m. and continue up till service time on Friday at Smith Downtown Chapel. Memorials in her memory may be sent to the Elks Club, P.O. Box 20303, Billings, MT 59104.

Julia Chabot
KAYCEE, Wyo. – Julia Chabot, 70, died July 11, 2000, at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Buffalo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Willow Grove cemetery following the service.

Ardena Glenn Gipson
CROW AGENCY – Ardena Glenn Gipson, 31, of Crow Agency passed away Monday, July 10, 2000, in the Crow Agency IHS Hospital.
She was born April 3, 1969, in Los Angeles, a daughter of Art Plenty Hawk and Latonna Cummins. She received her education in Arizona and Washington, DC., graduating from Paradise Valley High School in Arizona in 1987. She later received an Associates of Arts degree in business administration from the Haskell Junior College in Lawrence, Kan. She also had studied civil engineering at Kansas State University, Scottsdale Community College and Little Big Horn College. She currently was serving as activities director of the Crow Agency Nursing Home. She was dedicated to helping the elderly on her Reservation.
Ardena married Robert V. Gipson on Sept. 14, 1991, in Lawrence and the couple moved to Crow Agency in 1992.
She was a member of the Catholic Church, Native American Church, Sweat Lodge, Piegan Clan and Child of the Greasy Mouth Clan.
Ardena worked diligently with Native American youth receiving numerous citations for her work, both locally and nationally, including Youth Council Advisor of the year 1996.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Gipson; two daughters, Amanda and Angel Gipson; two sons, Kurtis Wolfe and Aaron Old Elk; her father, Art Plenty Hawk, her mother and stepfather, Latonna and Sharon Old Elk; her adopted father, Gilbert Glenn; three brothers, Owa and Barry Glenn and J.R. Plenty Hawk; four sisters, Carrie and Roberta Glenn, Pielene Manuelito and Rhea Onion; a half brother, Everdean Good Luck; eight adopted sisters, Amberly and Rita Half, Randean Little Light, Rhonda and Rochelle Bad Bear, Faylene Caplett, Jovana Holds and Natshua Old Elk; 21 grandmothers, Mary Bear Cloud, Gloria Cummins, Ethelene Dreamer, Bethann Medicine Horse, Rose Hill, Alma Graybull, Beverely Huber, Winona Plenty Hoops, Myra Gros Ventre, Laura Pickett, Louise Bird in Ground, Violet Other Medicine, Ernestine Bird in Ground, Hannah Pretty on Top, Rogenia Big Hair, Agnes Joy Parrish, Ardena, Sandra, Sarah, Yvonne and Janninne Other Medicine; 13 grandfathers, Ira Left Hand, Barney Old Coyote, Phillip Beaumont Sr., Peter Graybull, Robert, Emmett and John Paul Other Medicine, Robert, Joe and Lloyd Pickett, Sampson Bird in Ground Jr., Blaine Falls Down and James Onion; 16 uncles, Oliver Half, Barney, Leroy, George and John Cummins, Harold Hill, Fred Left Hand, Mervin White, Thomas Whiteman, Ernie Holds Jr., Lawrence Flat Lip, Isaac Bird in Ground, Larson and Don Medicine Horse, Preston Grant and Hank McCabe; 20 aunts, Theresa Vallie, Jermaine Half, Jane Holds, Georgine Falls Down, Annie Leider, Natalie Stewart, Bernadine Real Bird, Alda Good Luck, Polly Chase, Alma Real Bird, Clara Bulltail, Rachel Williamson, Agnes and Regina Hill, Angela Stewart, Jonella Chavez, Jennifer Flat Lip, Ada, Peggy and Victoria White; a great aunt, Anita Iron and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday in the Crow Agency St. Dennis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Other Medicine/Half Family cemetery near Crow Agency. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ Edward Healy
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Jeremiah Edward “Jerry” Healy peacefully passed away June 14 at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital. He was 82 years old. He succumbed to complications due to cancer.
Mr. Healy had lived the last 15 years in San Jose and before that had lived in Salinas. Mr. Healy was born in Butte, Mont., andgrew up in Butte and Livingston, Mont. He was a highly decorated retired U.S. Army photographer of 24 years. He had 17 years in active war zones and had taken pictures of most major generals and celebrities during WWII.
He was in the Pacific, and with Patton in Germany and also served in Korea. But most of all he was good father and even better grandfather. He had worked with his father when he was younger on the Caldecott Tunnel in the San Francisco Bay Area and several large construction projects on the East and West Coast. He had worked on the Broadway Tunnel in New York.
He is survived by his son, Terrence M. Healy of Milpitas; his granddaughter, Nicole Healy of San Jose, and two daughters, Sandra Allen of Santa Cruz, and Laura Jean Stroh of Stockton. Mr. Healy had grown up in Montana and had spoken of cousins there and in Salt Lake City that are unknown.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Garden of Memories in Salinas. For further information, contact his son Terrence M. Healy at (408) 934-1445.

Roxy ‘Roxanne’ Michotte Tanous Hoggatt
Roxy passed away in her home on Sunday, July 9, 2000, in Billings. She was born in Billings on Feb. 22, 1942, to Robert and Connie Michotte. During her high school years at Senior High, she was highly involved in many activities including cheerleading, worthy advisor of Rainbow Girls and many other activities, graduating in 1960.
Roxy attended Denver University then moved to California where she met and married the late Ronald Tanous. After returning to Billings, she followed a career with the family glass business known as Michotte Glass and onto PPG and the last position held for 12 years was at the Cattle Company as your favorite hostess/waitress, greeting always with a smile. Married to Ray Hoggatt in 1986, Roxy has touched the lives of many, not only with her cheerful personality, but also her great sense of humor.
Roxy took great pride in her home and family and was always a hard worker. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, camping, traveling, and most of all relaxing at her brother Carl’s cabin on the Stillwater River and spending time with her granddaughter.
Roxy was preceded in death by her father, the late Robert Carl Michotte of Billings.
Survivors are her husband, Ray; mother, Connie Symmes of Billings; son, Mark Tanous of California, granddaughter, Kaytlyn Tanous of California; daughter, Heather Tanous of Billings; brothers, Wally (and Pam) Michotte of Calif., Carl (and Jane) Michotte of Billings, Larry (and Karen) Symmes of Florida; children of Ray include Erika of Missoula, Shana of Portland and Dan of Billings; also, two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W., Thursday, July 13, at 3 p.m. with committal following at Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be made in Roxy’s name to Big Sky Hospice, 123 S. 27th St., Billings, MT 59101 or to American Cancer Society Montana Division, P.O. Box 1080, Billings, MT 59108-1080.

Catherine Homan
CODY, Wyo. – Catherine Homan, 79, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the West Park Long Term Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and interment of cremains will be in Riverside cemetery. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

Paul ‘Bud’ Jarrett
NORRIS – Paul “Bud” Jarrett, 72, died July 9, 2000, in Madison Valley Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 14, in the Montana Veterans cemetery in Fort Harrison with military honors. K & L Mortuary, Harrison Chapel, is in charge.

Michael Larrabee
Graveside committal services for Michael Larrabee will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Luella Mae Luke
LEWISTOWN – Luella Mae Luke, 80, formerly of Billings, died July 9, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center.
Luella is survived by her children, Lawrence Luke (Sharon) of Laurel and Everett R. Luke (Mardel Hargrave), Donna Keele (Jack) and Walter E. Luke, all of Billings; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd and daughter Wenda Lou.
Cloyd Funeral Home was in charge. Smith West Chapel was in charge of cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lloyd Naylor
COLUMBUS – Lloyd Naylor, age 78, of Columbus, left this world to walk the Streets of Gold on July 9, 2000, after a courageous bout with cancer.
He was born in Gallatin Gateway, on May 18, 1922, to John and Elizabeth Naylor. He was the youngest of three children.
Lloyd married May Durham in December 1944. She passed on in February of 1947. He then married Jane Rucker in April of 1948, and they divorced in 1977. In December 1979, Lloyd married Frances Logan. She passed in June of 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, May Durham Naylor and Frances Logan Naylor; his sons, Daniel Keith Naylor and John Robert Naylor.
He is survived by his sisters, Joy Rykman of Helena; Violet Sorte of Seattle; his children, Wanda (Duane) Mize of Emmett, Idaho, Bonnie (Kirby) Bellamy of Billings, David Carl Naylor of Columbus, Sherry Jo (Larry) Riddle of Columbus; grandchildren, Calvin Mize (Tiffanny Bradley), Jason Mize, Wendy Mize, Kodi Mize (David Quenzer), all of Emmett, Idaho; Brandon, Katie, and Kara Bellamy of Billings; Misty Naylor of Afton, Okla.; Jessica Naylor of Columbus; Ciara and Jessy Riddle of Columbus; great-grandchildren include Jordon, Austin, and Chelsea Mize, and Ashlee Bradley, all of Emmett, Idaho; and Kyle Lee Kirby of Afton, Okla. He is also survived by his very special friend, Dorothy Gillespie of Manhattan, Mont.
Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Hills cemetery in Bozeman. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus. Memorials may be made to the Montana High School Rodeo Association, c/o Scooter Pasha, 25 Eaton Ave., Great Falls, MT 59405.

Clifford M. Nelson
OCALA, Fla. – Clifford M. Nelson of Ocala passed away July 7, 2000, in Sarasota, Fla. He was born March 7, 1908, in Valley City, N.D. He married Helen Schmidt June 30, 1932. He lived in Billings and Miami before moving to Ocala.
Mr. Nelson was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps until 1945.
He is survived by a sister, Ruth Terpening of Sarasota, and a brother, Russell Nelson of Billings. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala. Graveside services will be held Friday July 14, at 10 a.m., at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala.
Toale Brothers Funeral Home Inc. of Sarasota is in charge of the arrangements.

Cecile ‘Sissy’ Onstad
PLENTYWOOD – Cecile “Sissy” Onstad, 61, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Cremation has taken place and friends may call at Fulkerson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14, at Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Interment will take place in Westby cemetery following the memorial service.

Barbara E. (Spaulding) Smith
LEWISTOWN – Barbara E. (Spaulding) Smith, 71, of Lewistown, formerly of Carbon County, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, July 9, 2000, in Billings Deaconess Hospital due to complications following open heart surgery.
She was born in Red Lodge on Oct. 19, 1928, a daughter of Arthur and Ruth Eckard, and was raised in the Belfry area where she met and married Lauren Spaulding. They lived in Scotch Coulee where they raised their nine children.
Barbara was a resident of Carbon County most of her life. She had lived in Texas for ten years and had resided in Lewistown for the past ten years. She was a gypsy at heart and loved to travel. In May of 1975, she married Bill Smith of Decatur, Ill.; he died in 1980.
Barbara was employed as an LPN at Galen State hospital and later at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula and at a VA facility in Texas.
She will be missed by her family whom she dearly loved. The little ones brought her great joy, and she loved to sew and listen to old-time music. Her legacy to her family includes her great sense of humor and teaching them to treat others as they would want to be treated. Barbara didn’t know a stranger.
Survivors include her nine children, Ruby (Harold) Anderson of Lewistown, Sylvia (Don) Woodhouse of Cassopolis, Mich., Kevin (Michele) Spaulding of Granite Bay, Calif., Helen (Casto) Pally of Carrollton, Texas, Lyle Spaulding of Belfry, Lois Brown of Laurel, Wrye Spaulding of Havre, Lloyd Spaulding of Lewistown, and Leabeth (Louis) Daviau of Missoula; two brothers, Franklin (Tina) Eckard of Billings and Jim (Sylvia) Eckard of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sybil (Bud) Keeler of Casper, Wyo.; two brothers-in-law, Sam (Dorothy) Spaulding of Belfry, and Kenneth Welch of Oceanside, Calif.; two uncles, George Mills of Mesa, Ariz., and Willie Mills of Billings; one aunt, Leona Brown of Laurel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Leon and Lester, a sister, Verna Monk, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 14, in the Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. Cremation will follow. Memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
