MILES CITY – Lydia G. Meidinger, 90, passed away Friday, July 7, 2000, at the Eagle Manor in Miles City.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. James Mavis officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, in the family plot of the Marsh cemetery in Marsh, Mont.

Sophie Ruff
LAUREL - Sophie Ruff, 87, passed: away Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Evergreen Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Sophie was born at Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 7, 1913, a daughter of Daniel and Katherina Nauman. She married Carl Ungefug, Jr. in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1936. She married George J. Ruff April 23, 1938 in Billings. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Sophie was a member of Canyon Creek Club, Big Sky Iris Club, Laurel Senior Citizens and First Congregational Church. She loved to bake, quilt and cook big meals for family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Eldon (Gerry) Ungefug of Laurel, Harry (Shirley) Ruff of Billings, Dan (Sonny) Ruff of Laurel; daughters, Carole (Ruben) Zundel of Laurel, Linda (Gary) Frank of Huntley; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; son, Leroy Ruff; brothers, Gottlieb, Karl, Daniel John, Gus; sisters, Mary and Ella.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at First Congregational Church in Laurel with interment in Laurel cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice Jetmore Scott
HAMILTON – Beatrice Jetmore Scott, 73, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2000, at her home with family at her side, after a lengthy illness from Shy Drager Syndrome.
Bea was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Forsyth, the daughter of Ruth Bringen of Hamilton and M.W. Jetmore of Forsyth.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Scott, and her mother, Ruth Bringen both of Hamilton; two daughters, Caron Romero of Kingston, Wash. and Vonna Martin Griggs of Victor, Mont. Her other surviving relatives include brothers, Robert, John, Aubrey and Don Jetmore; sisters, Helen Vanaickle, Rosalyn Ohmstede, and Saundra Rine, four grandchildren, Susan, John, and Michelle Martin of Idaho and Dharsae Romero of Washington, and numerous other relatives including many nieces and nephews.
Grave side services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Riverview cemetery in Hamilton. Family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to Marcus Daly Hospice Program.

Marie C. Spika
LEWISTOWN – Marie C. Spika, 95, passed away Friday evening, July 7, 2000, at Valle Vista Manor.
Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery. Creel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward ‘Ed’ Wagner
ABSORKEE – Edward “Ed” Wagner, 81 of Absorkee, formerly of Hardin passed away at his home July 8, 2000 of cancer.
He was born Aug. 3, 1918 in Fort Morgan, Colo. a son of Gottfried and Mary Dolberg Wagner. Following his education, he moved to Montana. Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received his Honorable Discharge in 1945.
Ed married Martha Dorm on Dec. 2, 1945, in Hardin and the couple made their home on the family farm North of Hardin. They retired in 1974 and moved to Absorkee in 1976.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and playing bridge during his retirement years.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Martha; two daughters, Shirley (Edward) Bukoskey of Colstrip and Charlene Hahn of Billings; three grandchildren, Doug (Jenny) Hahn of Billings and Angela Hahn of Las Vegas, Nev., both of whom he and Martha helped raise and Randy Bukoskey of Hawaii; four brothers and nine sisters.
Cremation has taken place in the Bullis-Eastern Montana Crematory. Memorial Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the Hardin Fairview cemetery with military honors. Family and friends will gather at the Bullis Mortuary at 10:45 a.m. and proceed to the cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Sky Hospice (Stillwater Team) Box 1109, Columbus, MT 59019.

Loretta Devens
RED LODGE – Loretta Devens, 71, of Park City, formerly of Phoenix, died on Friday, July 7, 2000, in Cedar Wood Villa.
Funeral services and burial will be in Phoenix. Olcott Funeral Chapel is in charge.

Ethel E. Folda
LEWISTOWN – Ethel Emelia Folda, 93, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 10, at the Cloyd Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Lewistown City cemetery.

Helen G. Hartman
Helen G. Hartman, passed away of natural causes on July 6, 2000, in Billings. She was born to Thomas and Carrie Hawkin on Nov. 11, 1902. in Sundance, Wyo..
Helen married Glen Hartman on June 17, 1924. They lived in Laramie, Wyo., from 1924 through 1942. During this time they were blessed with three children, Donald, Harold and Janice. In 1943, Helen and Glen moved to Cody, Wyo., and then relocated to Billings in 1946.
Helen worked at Hart Albin and volunteered at a hospital for several years. She and her husband were charter members at the Yellowstone Country Club and were members of the Elks Club. After the passing of her husband in 1963, Helen enjoyed a very special friendship with Dean Vreeland from 1978 through 1984.
Helen loved playing bridge and enjoyed playing the organ. She had a very special way with her canaries, flowers and plants. She was very creative in interior decorating. She loved visiting with family and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; her sons, Donald and Harold; her daughter, Janice Bonawitz; and granddaughter, Jill Kibby. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd and Bill; and her sisters, Ruth, Prudence and Doris.
She is survived by eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Helen will always be remembered for her great sense of humor and quick wit. She will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Private interment will take place at Little Bighorn Battlefield.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Opal Glee Kolman
Opal Glee Kolman passed away on July 5, 2000, in a Helena nursing home. She had been a longtime resident of Billings until June 1999 when she sold the family home and moved to Helena. Opal bad been in declining health for the past four years.
Opal was born July 29, 1917, in Amorita, Okla., to Harrison and Elva Jane Heinicke. She moved to Montana when she was 16 to live with her brother Harold. She was working for Safeway in Bozeman when she met Fran Kolman. She was the first female produce clerk ever hired by Safeway in Montana.
Fran and Opal were married Oct. 23, 1937, in Livingston, and they lived in Bozeman, Philipsburg, Missoula and Powell before settling in Billings in 1950 while Fran was employed with Safeway. In the 1970s, Fran and Opal bought Gorham Park IGA where they both worked until retiring in 1985.
Over the years Opal was involved in bowling leagues and bridge clubs. She and Fran took several cruises and IGA group trips. The Sunday drives taken with Fran were her most memorable times.
Opal is survived by four sons, and daughters-in-laws, Larry and Sue of Gresham, Ore., Mike and Sonia of Bumpass, Va. Joe and Sharon of Helena, and Dan and Julee of Edmonds, Wash. Also surviving are 11 grandsons; four granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Fran, in 1996 and brothers, Harold and David; and her sister Frances Fishburn.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Smith West Chapel,
304 34th Street West. Interment will follow at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Research, University of California-San Diego, 2225 Dickinson Street, San Diego, CA. 92103

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, in the family plot of the Marsh cemetery in Marsh, Mont.

Thora F. Rogers
POWELL – Thora F. Rogers, 99, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at her home.
Visitation will be held at 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

Lycurgus ‘Kirk’ Stovall
LIVINGSTON – Lycurgus Robert “Kirk” Stovall, 82, died Dec. 14, 1999, at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Graveside Committal services will follow in the Veteran’s Plot of Mountain View cemetery.

Adolph Vrana
Adolph Vrana, the son of Frank and Fanney Hladky Vrana, passed away July 7, 2000, at the age of 88 at Billings.
He was born at Lindwood Neb., on July 1, l9l2, and was raised and educated in Custer County, Neb. He was a WWII Army veteran, having served 1942-1946 in Africa, Italy, France and England.
Mr. Vrana was a farmer before entering the service. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to Washington state where he was a dairy farmer until his retirement on Nov. 3, 1967. He married Virginia Schneider in Burlington, Wash., and they resided in Buel, Wash., and later moved to Sedro Woolley, Wash. They were members of the Central Valley Assembly of God Church in Burlington, Wash.
Adolph and Virginia moved to Livingston in 1990 and resided at 910 East Geyser until June of 1999 when they moved to Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings. His wife Virginia, passed away in November 1999. He was also preceded in death by both his parents; a sister, Frances Aispaugh; a brother, Edd Vranna; two infant brothers, and a grandson.
Adolph is survived by a brother, John Vrana of Wakefield, Neb.; a sister, and brother-in-law, Wilma and Jordan Morgan and a brother, and sister-in-law, Rudy and Sophie Vrana, all of Burlington, Wash.; four daughters, Donna Miller and husband, Duwain of Livingston, Dora Knapp and husband, Brad of Billings, Sheryl Mills and husband, Harry of Riverton, Wyo., and Lola Graber and husband, Rollie of Sidney; one son, David Schneider and wife, Sandy of Billings; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces; and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at Smith West Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Smith West Chapel. Interment will be at Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine.. Memorials may be directed to the charity of their choice.

Emma Rostad Warila
BIG TIMBER – Emma Rostad Warila, 95, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2000, in Livingston. She was born in Sweet Grass County on April 6, 1905 to George and Susanna (Ellingson) Rostad. She graduated from Sweet Grass County High School then Normal School at Dillon, earning teaching credentials. Teaching began near Boyd, where she met her husband-to-be Aloe Warila. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Upon leaving the Boyd area in 1939, they spent four years at McLeod and moved to Billings in 1943.
Emma worked many years at Gamble’s warehouse, retiring in Big Timber where she and Aloe were avid gardeners. It was the location of many happy family gatherings. Emma was an active lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors are her son, Gilbert; and wife, JoAnn of Escondido, Calif.; grandchildren, Connie, Richard, Mark and Denise. Also 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Alice Erickson of Northfield, Minn.; brothers, Clarence Rostad of Big Timber and Ora Rostad of Littleton, Colo.
Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday July 12, 2000 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church, burial to follow at Mountain View cemetery. Lowry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Aloysius ‘Aloy’ Weidinger
BALLANTINE – After the Huntley Project was opened for settlement, the first male infant was born on the original Weidinger homestead Jan. 5, 1908. Aloysius (Aloy) Weidinger, the son of Ludwig and Magdaline Weidinger.
He was very proud of his education having attended Porter, Ballantine and Fratt schools but had to quit school to work on the farm. In 1913, he moved to his farm west of Ballantine where he resided the rest of his life as a farmer and rancher. He married Eleanor Amundsen on Jan 20, 1937.
He was manager of the Farmers Union Co-op in Worden and was one of the original stockholders and board member of the co-op and he helped start the Yellowstone Federal Credit Union. He helped with the Youth Rodeo.
He enjoyed baby sitting his grandchildren, fishing, playing cards and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and member of St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Ballantine.
Surrounded by his family, Aloy died July 4, 2000, at the Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; four sisters; his wife, Eleanor; and son, Aloy (Butch).
He is survived by his son, Ed (Phyllis) Weidinger; his daughters, Dolores Lix, Karen (Earl) Stene and Lois (Marshall) Witherell; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers, Greg Weidinger, Charles Weidinger and Frank Weidinger; and sister, Helen Dietzman.
“Auf Wiedersehen. We Love you and will miss you”
Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at St Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Ballantine. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday July 13, at the Church. Interment will be at Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Worden Fire and Ambulance Fund or the charity of your choice.
