Ima A. Jones
Graveside services for Ima A. Jones will be held at noon Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings.

Gertrude Helen Kusell
RED LODGE – Gertrude Helen Kussell, 92, of Red Lodge, died on Sept. 25, 2000 in Brighton, Colo. She was born Feb. 11, 1908, in Gladbeck, Germany, the daughter of August and Maria (Jesenitsching) Slaby. She attended school in Red Lodge.
She was united in marriage to Frank Kussell in Red Lodge on May 20, 1926.
Gertrude’s hobbies included gardening, canning, cooking, and crocheting. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and served in their Altar Society.
She is survived by her grandsons, Michael (Lola) Markovich of Northglenn, Colo., and Robert Markovich of Billings; and great-grandchildren; Misty, Natasha, Sean and Stephanie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter Frances (Robert) Markovich.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Red Lodge. The interment will follow at the Red Lodge cemetery. Dahl Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge is in charge.

Richard A. Larsen
HARLOWTON – Richard A. Larsen, 71, passed away on Sept 27, 2000, at Wheatland Memorial Hospital in Harlowton. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, mother and siblings.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at American Lutheran Church in Harlowton. Burial of ashes will follow at the Harlowton cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lutheran Church or the Veterans Memorial Wall, c/o Bill Dysart, Harlowton, MT 59036.

Edwin T. Loken
CAPITOL – Edwin T. Loken, 79, of Capitol, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish, S.D.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Little Missouri Lutheran Church in Capitol with burial in the family of the Church cemetery in Capitol.

Robert W. Morin
Robert W. Morin died Wednesday, Sept 27, 2000, at Eagle Cliff Manor. A son of Joseph and Alice Morin, he was born April 5, 1914, in Redstone where he was educated.
He graduated from EMC in Billings and received his M.A. at the UM in Missoula. Robert’s teaching career included Carlyle, Hinsdale, Fairview, Crow Agency, Shepherd, Bridger and Billings, the last 17 years at Lincoln Junior High School.
Robert married Lois Ann Kims in 1946.
Survivors include his sons, Dennis of Fullerton, Calif., and Jeffrey of Lafayette, Colo.; brothers, Leo of Missoula and Joe of Circle; and sister, Elsie of Tualatin, Ore.
Cremation has been held. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Eighth and St. John’s. Memorials may be to the American Lutheran Church, 5 Lewis Ave., Billings MT 59101 Inurnment will be in the Absarokee Beartooth Columbarium located in the Gallery.

Gerald Theodore Sauter
Gerald Theodore Sauter, age 61, of Billings, passed away Sept. 23, 2000, at the Billings Deaconess Health Care Center. He was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Billings to Ted and Hanna Sauter.
He owned and operated Jerry’s Dairy Store on South 27th Street for many years. Later he worked at the Buffalo Cafe and many years at the Great Western Sugar Factory.
Gerald married Shirley Clark in May of 1973, and she preceded him in death in 1998.
Gerald is survived by his uncle and aunt, Jacob and Patricia Sauter and family; aunt Ester Boehm and her family; uncle Albert and aunt Marion Sauter and family of Hibbing, Minn., and Richard Drewniak and family. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Christina and Jacob Sauter; also uncles and aunts, Lillian Drewniak, Betty and Adolph Frickle, Mary and Rhine Diede, Raliegh and Bert Kruser, Mary Wise, Earl Sauter and John Sauter
A special thanks to all the physicians and nursing staff that helped care for him during his hospital stay and dialysis treatments.
Cremation has taken place at Smith’s Crematory. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Sept 29, at the Bethel Baptist Church, 4119 Clevenger Ave. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 4119 Clevenger Ave., Billings, MT 59101.

Helen King Holter Stastny
On Sunday, Sept. 17, Helen King Holter Stastny was reunited in Heaven with her heavenly father and her parents, brothers, husbands and grandchildren who preceded her in death. She was born May 23, 1904, in Waterville, Wash., to Emanuel King and Bertha Carson King.
In 1919 her family moved to Hardin where she graduated from high school. She received her nurse’s training at Mounds-Midway Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. Upon graduation, she served as a nurse on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning. It was while serving there that she met Jim Holter who was working in Glacier Park. They were married on Aug. 10, 1931, and spent their early married years in Whitefish and Hardin.
Her professional career included nursing in the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in South Dakota and in the Public Health Service during WWII in Portland, Ore. Helen received further training at St. Vincent Hospital there and worked at Good Samaritan Hospital as a nurse anesthetist. Later she became nursing supervisor at Portland General Hospital.
In 1963, Helen married Michael Stastny and moved to Malin, Ore., where she resided until 1978 when she moved to Hyder, Alaska, to be near her daughter. She returned to Montana in 1986 to be near both her daughters. Her final years were spent at Aspen Meadows in Billings.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Joan Deichl of Worden and Felicia Marshall of Coupeville, Wash.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her sister Ruth King Wilkins, and brothers Roland E. King and C. Donald King also survive.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

George E. Swayne
MILES CITY – George Edwin Swayne, 86, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Health Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the family lot of the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Lena M. Thomson
Lena M. Thomson died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at St. John's Lutheran Home.
Lena was born the daughter of Marie and Joe Blaquiere in Harlowton, Mont., on April 24, 1912. She was raised and educated in Harlowton before moving to Billings to attend St. Vincent's School of Nursing. After graduating from nursing school, Lena married F.T. “Pete” Thomson on June 17, 1935. She took pride in being a wife, mother of four, and working as a nurse, especially for Dr. Hines.
After Pete's death, Lena became the owner and operating manager of Black and White Cab Company. Also, Lena was instrumental in forming and running Special Transportation of Billings. Following retirement, Lena loved to play bridge with her good friends Apus, Ruby and Helen. She also liked to play the organ and spend time with her family.
Lena is survived by her four children, Larry and Carol Thomson of Carlsbad, Calif., Mike and Helen Thomson of Lexington, Ky., Linda Grey of Missoula; and Mary Kay Porter of Billings; as well as her brother Ray Blaquiere and sister-in-law Arlene Blaquiere of Harlowton; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Cremation has taken place and Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.
Memorials may be made to “Cuddles and Care” at St. Vincent Hospital or to the charity of one's choice.

George Ulrich
George Ulrich, 73, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Deaconess Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Sheridan, Wyo., a son of Henry and Bernice Ulrich. He went to school in Wyola, graduated from Hardin High School and attended Eastern Montana College. He retired from the Montana Department of Highways as a weighman in the 1980s. He loved to hunt and fish whenever he had the chance.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Billy. He is survived by his sister, Henryetta Sussman of Bonifay, Fla.; two sons, William “Bill” of Mason City, Iowa, and John of Helena; and his wife, Carrol of Billings.
Cremation has taken place. No services are planned.

Walter R. Waters
MALTA – Walter Roy Waters, 91, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Adams Memorial Chapel with burial in the Malta cemetery.

Dr. Robert Broadbent
CODY, Wyo. – Robert V. Broadbent, MD, 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept 30, at the McClurg Family Stables, 335 Pearson Road, Absarokee, Mont. Mirtatsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

Florence Dutton
A Mass of Christian Burial for Florence Dutton, 82, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Billings. Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery.

James Frederick
James Patrick Frederick, 21, of Billings, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26.
The son of Dick and Barbara Frederick, James was born in Billings May 10, 1979. He was raised in Bozeman and graduated from Bozeman High School in 1997. He went on to attend the University of Montana and also served in the U.S. Army.
James had a wonderful sense of humor and was able to make anyone laugh with his imitations. An outdoorsman he was passionate about the Bridger and Hyalite Mountains. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, camping and loved to ski and hike. He also enjoyed history, music, travel and the martial arts. An accomplished artist he enjoyed drawing and watercolors. Most of all, James enjoyed doing things with his family.
Survivors include his parents, Barbara and Paul Downing of Billings, and Dick and Dianna Frederick of Bozeman; two brothers, Tom Frederick and his wife Lisi of Helena, and David Frederick and his wife Holli of San Diego; his sister Jennifer Whitmer and her husband Ryan of Bozeman; stepbrother, Brenden Elwood and his wife Wynter of Walnut Creek, Calif.; stepsister Allison Elwood of Cascade, Colo.; nieces and nephews, Tanesha, Braeden and Kyer Frederick and Piper Elwood; his grandmothers Sally Coffman and Evelyn Frederick of Billings; and aunts and uncles, Bill and Anna Frederick of Leavenworth, Kan., Cheri and Mike Smith of Billings, John Coffman of Laurel, Mary and Mark Cady of Billings, Liz Wilson and Jeff Wilson of Billings, and Sara and Paul Gillott of Prescott, Ariz.
Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. The Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rite of Committal at Mountview cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Bozeman Trail Association or the charity of one’s choice.

Edward D. James
Edward D. James passed away on Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, of natural causes at the Eagle Cliff Manor Health Care Center in Billings. Services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Bell Chapel in Glasgow. Officiating will be Rev. Martin Mock. Burial will be in Highland cemetery in Glasgow. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on June 4, 1917, in Scobey, the son of Peter and Jessie (Hughes) James. He graduated from high school in Nashua, in 1935 and attended Chicago Technical School. He was an electric serviceman in Lewistown until volunteering for the U.S. Army on March 25, 1941. He served in the Southwest Pacific during World War II at Leyte, Lunyon and New Guinea, serving as a military policeman for 15 months and a stevedore foreman for three years. He was honorably discharged Sept. 30, 1945.
After the war, Edward farmed with his father. He married Helen Sieger on March 9, 1954. They farmed near Richland in Valley County. Due to Helen’s ill health, they leased their farm and moved to Billings in 1985 where she died in August of 1987. Edward married Irma J. Kleysteuber of Billings on Feb. 19, 1991.
Edward is survived by his wife Irma J. James of Billings; a sister Beth Belling of Glasgow; a nephew Sam Belling and wife Karen and three daughters, Kyla, DeNeil and Amy of Poulsbo, Wash.; a nephew Raymond Belling and wife Karen and daughter Kari Rue and son Callahan of Richland, Mont.; a step-daughter Nina Erbe and husband Loren of Roundup, and Nina’s family, daughter Linda Godfrey and husband Roger and four sons of Roundup; son Fred Burns and wife Chris and two daughters of Bothell, Wash., and son Frank L. Burns and wife Patti of Carlton, Ore. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen, brother Perry, and parents Pete and Jessie James.
Memorials suggested to Big Sky Hospice, Box 35033, Billings, MT.
