Lisle Kenneth Boyd
Lisle Kenneth Boyd, 94, of Billings passed away Sept. 16, 2000. He was born June 12, 1906, in Tabor, Iowa. He moved to Montana briefly as a child in 1912 and returned to make Montana his home after graduating from Tabor High School in 1924. He had been a long time resident of Carbon County. He was Worshipful Master of the Laurel Masonic Lodge in 1955 and a Mason for over 50 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marion Jackson Boyd; three children, Maxine Allman and husband Don of Billings, Robert and wife Vicki of Silesia, and Sharon Wathen and husband Michael of Owensboro, Ky.; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emma and William Boyd; two sisters, Grace Morgan and Fern Young and two brothers, Ira and George “Fred.” Visitation will begin Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Graveside Masonic Rites will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Rockvale cemetery.

Anna Jean Burnham
LEWISTOWN – Anna Jean Burnham, 73, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Juniper Lodge.
Virgil service is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the funeral liturgy will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, both at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery. Creel Funeral Home is in charge.

Bernice V. Ketcham
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Bernice V. Ketcham, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Westview Health Care Center at the age of 89.
Bernice was born to Marie Coast and Joseph H. Giroux in Carneyville, Wyo., on March 15, 1911. She grew up in Monarch, Wyo., and attended school in Ranchester, Wyo. On Jan. 4, 1927, Bernice married Homer C. Ketcham in Sheridan. While a young mother in Monarch, she was active in the Bridge and Homemakers Club, as well as being a den mother for Cub Scouts. The couple lived in Monarch until 1953 when they moved into Sheridan. She worked in the kitchen of Woolworth’s for a short time, quitting to work with Homer as caretakers at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds until their retirement in 1969. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Eagles AuxilIary No. 186, Pythian Sisters and AARP.
Bernice was known for being the pillar of the family, her sense of humor, outgoing personality and her fun-loving spirit. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, reading, listening to music and especially spending time with her family.
Bernice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Homer; two sons, Darrell R. and Homer F. Ketcham; daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann Ketcham; grandson, Robert C. Warne; great-grandson, Aaron Carter; and her sister, Pearl B. Masters.
Survivors include Bernice’s daughter, Gayle Warne of Buffalo; sons, Dwayne Ketcham and wife, Doris of Sheridan, Garey Ketcham of Sheridan, and Ronald Ketcham and wife Bessie of Billings; daughters-in-law, Margaret and Kathleen Ketcham of Sheridan and Meeteetsee and her sister, Faye Edelen of Sheridan. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home, with long-time friend of the family, Pastor Bob Logan, officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Senior Center, Meals-on-Wheels Program, in care of Delphine Toner at First Interstate Bank, Sheridan, WY, 82801.

Robert L. ‘Bob’ Knowles
MILES CITY – Robert L. “Bob” Knowles, 60, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at his home of cancer.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wesleyan Church with burial in the family lot of the Custer County cemetery.

Edna Mae (Allen) Kresic
MILES CITY – Edna Mae (Allen) Kresic, age 82, of Miles City, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City from a brief illness.
Edna was born on Sept. 4, 1918, at Miles City the son of Charles M. and Theoline Volborg (Osmundson) Allen. She attended Allen Country School on Pumpkin Creek and Custer County High School. Edna later moved to California where she worked as a waitress until the early 1940’s when she married John Kresic in Reno. Following their marriage moving to Detroit, where they made their home for 27 years before returning to Miles City where Edna went to work for Evelyn Parent at Interstate CafČ and the Red Rock CafČ until she retired in 1986.
In Edna’s earlier years she loved to work in her rose garden, reading, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, watching the Atlanta Braves, visiting with friends and most of all her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Edna Jensen and husband, Jack of Miles City, and Carolyn Petersohn and husband, Bob of Billings; two sisters, Thelma Green of Billings, and Betty Jane Hand of Kansas City; three grandchildren, Michelle, Michael and Andrew; and a special friend, Evelyn Parent of Miles City. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Elmer “Nibs” Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with Rev. Grover T. Briggs officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Range Riders Museum or the American Cancer Society.

Christian Morup
Christian Morup, child of God and servant of Jesus Christ, died at home Sept. 18, 2000. Chris spent the past nine years paralyzed from the neck down and dependent on a respirator, the result of a landscaping accident. His incredible faith and his positive, optimistic attitude were an inspiration to all his family, friends and caregivers.
Chris was born March 19, 1933, in Calgary, Canada, the son of Paul and Mariane Korgaard Morup. He attended the University of Alberta and graduated from the Penn State Turf Program. After several years in the oil industry, he moved to Billings, Mont., in 1964 when he became superintendent of Hilands Golf Club. During the years 1968-1988, Chris was superintendent of golf courses in Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Philadelphia. He was especially proud of the annual award created in his honor for the person in the Pittsburgh area best exemplifying integrity in the turfgrass industry. He established the Christian Puppet Group Shine during the 1980s, whose hundreds of puppet programs provide happy memories of shared faith and fun.
After returning to Billings he started Great Dane Environmentals in 1989. Chris enjoyed helping people beautify their yards, and his legacy of well-tended flowers and lawns continues throughout Billings.
Chris is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Marianne, son Paul, their spouses Rich Smith and Stephanie Baez, beloved grandchildren Yasmin and Ryan, and Chris’s sister Mona Clark, all of Billings. Also surviving are Mona’s daughter Debbe Stephens, her family, and relatives in Europe and Canada.
His family extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped us during the past nine years. We especially thank the nurses of Rocky Mountain Home Care and Chris’s hands, JJ Hutzenbiler, who shared friendship along with their expertise. Thanks also to Dr. Ron Burnam, Dr. Spike Pueringer and their associates. A special thanks goes to the members of Messiah Lutheran Church for their incredible support.
The service will be at Messiah Lutheran Church Friday September 22 at 2 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, or to a charity of their choice.
Chris, soar with the eagles, laugh in the wind, go with God.

Bette Rogers
GLENDIVE – Bette Rogers, 59, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at her home.
At Bette’s request, no services are planned. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home was in charge.

Grace (Marquardt) Simser
MALTA – Grace (Marquardt) Simser, 88, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at her home of natural causes.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Malta Lutheran Church with burial in the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Kenneth ‘Bud’ I. Stolem
MALTA – Kenneth “Bud” I. Stolem, 85, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hinsdale Lutheran Church with burial in the Hillview cemetery in Hinsdale. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.

Edith Swenson
FORSYTH – Edith Swenson, 98, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at the Rosebud Health Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Federated Church with burial in the Forsyth cemetery. Beals Mortuary is in charge.

Claire L. Yorks
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Claire L. Yorks, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Ferries Funeral Home is in charge.

Theron A. ‘Zook’ Childers
MARMARTH, N.D. – Theron A. “Zook” Childers, 72 of Marmarth, N.D. passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker, Mont.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marmarth. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Burial will be in the family lot of the Riverside cemetery at Marmarth.

Elmer E. Conard
LEWISTOWN – Elmer E. Conard, 81 died peacefully at his residence on Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2000 of natural causes.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at First Presbyterian Church. Cremation has taken place. Creel Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Douglas ‘Doug’ Forgey
LIVINGSTON – Douglas B. “Doug” Forgey, 36, Livingston, died Thursday norning, Sept. 14, 2000 in a ranch accident on Swingley Route east of Livingston.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 North 3rd Street in Livingston. Graveside committal services and burial will be in 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, in the Sears cemetery in Cottage Grove, Ore.

Edith G. Hodik
LEWISTOWN – Edith G. Hodik, 90 of Lewistown, died Saturday evening at the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes. She was born May 23, 1910 in Seattle, Wash. They moved to Montana in 1914 to South Lewistown and she began her schooling there. She began working at the telephone office in Lewistown. On June 10, 1935 she was united in marriage to Everett L. Moore in Lewistown. They lived in Lewistown and she worked various jobs until 1945 when she began working as a clerk at the Fergus County Courthouse. After Everett’s death in 1963, she continued living in Lewistown and working at the courthouse. In 1969, she was united in marriage to Austin Wilson in Virginia City, Mont. They lived on his ranch at Christina and she continued working at the courthouse until retiring in 1975. After Austin’s death in 1978, she returned to her house in Lewistown. In 1981, she was united in marriage to Joe Hodik in Lewistown. They lived at his ranch at Danvers until moving into Lewistown. Joe preceded her in death in 1995.
Edith enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, crafts, bowling and was an excellent cook.
She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, St. Margaret’s Guild and the Garden Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Garrison of Lewistown and Gayle Cade Tadday of Billings; five grandchildren, Valerie Lynn Tansby of Dana Point, Calf., Grant L. Stewart of Gilbert, Ariz., Karen Smail McCaslin of Absarokee, Andrea Smail Novich of Twin Bridges and Brian Everett Smail of Dillon; eight great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, one sister, two grandsons, one great-great grandson and her parents.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, in the Central Montana Memorial Gardens. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may make memorials to St. James Episcopal Church and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.

Ruth Sunwall
Ruth Sunwall, 82, died peacefully Sept. 16, 2000 at Aspen Meadows. Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be given to Church of the Lutheran Brethren “Masana Bible translation work in Cameroun and Chad, Africa” or “Lutheran Brethren Seminary Student Fund” c/o P.O. Box 655, Fergus Falls, MN 56538.

Randy B. Dawson
LAUREL – Randy B. Dawson, of Laurel passed away Sept. 14, 2000, at his home in Laurel.
Randy was born July 26, 1953, to Zane and Barbara Dawson of Laurel. He attended and graduated from Laurel High School. Randy worked for the BN at Laurel for approximately 15 years and for Union Tank Car Co. of Los Angeles for approximately 15 years, before returning to Laurel last November.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara; and a brother, Robert. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Zane and Linda Dawson; and a brother, Bruce, all of Laurel, plus various aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. Services are pending notification of distance relatives.
