He had happy memories of driving mules behind the plow, milking cows, Sunday dinner at his Grandpa Yoder’s. He attended country school just across the field from the farm. At age 20, with a loan from his grandpa, he headed to Agriculture College. This led to a job with Armour Creamery, which brought him to Sidney in 1928. It was then he met his life-long sweetheart, Cora Nustad. They began their 65-year marriage in 1931. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Sept. 17, 1942 and was honorably discharged July 21, 1944. When we think of Dad, we think of his love and devotion to family. We think of his appreciation for God’s creation where he loved to fish, hunt, walk or just admire a beautiful tree. His favorite spot in the world was Swan Lake. We see him carefully tending his garden or sitting in his chair in the den, reading or watching a ball game. We remember his famous sense of humor and we’ll always think of him when we see an elderly man dressed in suit coat, tie and hat, Dad’s uniform. Dad appreciated his community and was always willing to help with its organizations and projects, especially when they involved young people. He was a faithful member of the Lonsdale United Methodist Church, a Shiner, a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Kiwanis Club and various other community groups.
