Edwin J. Kuntz
CUSTER – Edwin J. Kuntz, 74, of Custer, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was born in Billings, on May 3, 1926, a son of Ernest and Mary Stief McVicker. He was later adopted by his stepfather, Adam Kuntz.
He started his education in Billings and soon moved to Custer, where he graduated, in 1944, from Custer High School. In June 1944, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and trained as a gunner on a B17. While on furlough, Dec. 11, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret “Peg” Quest.
Following his discharge he returned to Custer to farm and raise his family. He farmed for over 50 years in the Custer area, where he was joined by his son, Cody and grandson, Chad, raising primarily sugar beets and malt barley.
Edwin became a director on Mountain States Beet Growers Association of Montana and served over 35 years on that board. Many years he served as secretary treasurer, and for the last 10 years was president. He was also on the board of directors of the American Sugar Beet Growers Association in Washington D.C.
Always a loyal supporter of the Custer community, Edwin served as vice president of the Waco-Custer Ditch Co., vice president of the Custer cemetery Board, served on the Custer School Board and was a charter member of Post 111 of the American Legion where he served many years as adjutant.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Will Arvik.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peg of Custer; a daughter, Belva (Harold) Arvik at Hysham; two sons, Rick (Gail) of Dillon, and Cody (Susan) of Pompeys Pillar. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Susan (Mitch) Gallo of Miles City, Chad (Erika) Kuntz of Pompeys Pillar, Beau (Susan) Kuntz of Billings, Hilary Kuntz of Bozeman, Alissa Kuntz of Missoula, Tami Jo Arvik of Hysham, Jenna Kuntz of Pompeys Pillar, Morgan and Jace Kuntz of Dillon. Additional survivors include a sister, Shirley Lich of Billings; uncle Frank Stief of Billings; aunt Helen Kuntz of Billings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Custer School Gymnasium. Burial will take place at the Custer cemetery with military rites conducted by the A.C. Buckner Post 111.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the Edwin Kuntz Memorial, c/o Yellowstone Bank of Laurel, (Attn: Jim Taylor or Rick Arnold), P.O. Box 7, Laurel, MT 59044 with the intent of using the funds to set up a scholarship program for the benefit of a Custer High School senior who intends to further their education at a college or trade school.

Terry Aalgaard
PASCO, Wash. – Terry Aalgaard, 39, of Pasco, chose to spend eternity in a happier place on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, in Kennewick. Terry was born to John and Lauretta Aalgaard in Billings, on Oct. 3, 1960.
He left behind his shining stars, Megan, 21, Jessica, 15, Tyler 12; his grandson, Zachary, 4, aka Critter; and his wife, Tacine, whom he called the love of his life; his parents, John and Lauretta Aalgaard, Billings; brothers, Barry and Larry Aalgaard; sisters, Jackie Hudon, Sandra Aalgaard, Sherry Miller, and Tammie Aalgaard; grandmothers, Helen Bromgard and Gladys Aalgaard.
Terry worked and thrived in retail management for 15 years before becoming ill in 1997. His passion became breeding tropical fish, especially African cichlids. Terry’s family meant the world to him. He touched the lives of all those around him. Everyone that knew him will miss his laughter, friendship and love. May you rest in peace!
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sep. 11, at Mueller’s Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco.

Rosemary Rogers Gainan
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – Rosemary Rogers Gainan, 84, died Sept. 7, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center. She had been ill for many years.
Rosemary was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Idaho Falls to Charles and Kathryn Rogers. She attended schools in Idaho Falls and Pocatello, including ISU, before moving to Billings and attending St. Vincent’s School of Nursing. She graduated as an RN in 1938. In 1941, she married Dr. Ernest Hodges who died suddenly in 1953. She then married Stewart “Mickey” Gainan in May 1954. They had one daughter, Heidi Ann.
Rosemary loved golf, cards and her many friends. She was a wonderful grandmother to her three grandchildren, Jennifer Rose, Blaine Christopher and Samantha Joyce.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Heidi Gainan-Larsen and Chris Larsen and her three grandchildren, all of Idaho Falls; two sisters-in-law and several nephews and nieces.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Ninth and Lee with Fr. Mike St. Marie officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home.

Pauline Milohov
Pauline Milohov, 77, of Billings, passed away Sept. 8, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital.
She was born June 27, 1923, to Matt and Margaret Hagel. She married Mike Milohov on Feb. 7, 1949. They spent the majority of their lives on the Huntley Project. She spent most of her life devoted to her family and anyone who needed her.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Laurie and Bob Koffler and Barb and Gary Smith, all of Billings, and Margaret and Roger Holloway of Albuquerque, N.M.; one son, Mike Jr. of Billings; four sisters and their husbands, Helen and Paul Reichert, Marge and Jim Kenney, Tillie and Bill Lambrecht and Dorothy Fiihr. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Mike, daughter Wilma, two brothers George and John and a sister Rose.
Cremation has taken place and at Mom’s request, there will be no services. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be Sunday, Sept. 10, at noon at Homesteader Hall at the Experiment Station between Huntley and Worden.
We would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Patrick Cobb and staff.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

John H. Wilson
John H. Wilson rode his beloved Harley Sportster for the last time Aug. 18, 2000. He died Sept. 7, from injuries suffered on that last ride.
He was born June 16, 1930, in Sidney to Florence and Harold Wilson. John attended grade school in Richey and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1949.
John retired from Greyhound in 1992, after 41 years of service. Never idle and missing the motor coaches, he went to work, part time, for his friend at Rimrock Stages. He married Rose M. Loucas on Dec. 27, 1951. They had three daughters, two of them, Cheri and Wendy, preceded John in death.
Survivors include his wife Rose; his daughter Jonine (Chip) Smith; his grandchildren, Kyle, Parker, and Hayley Smith, and Tyson (Melanie) Kanuit; great grandchild, Mackenzie Kanuit; his sister, Joyce Keller; his brother James; several nieces and nephews; and many exceptional friends, all of whom are like family.
Viewing will begin Sunday afternoon at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ann M. Conger
GLENDIVE – Ann M. Conger, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000.
Cremation has taken place in the Bullis-Graves Eastern Montana Crematory in Miles City. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jerry Gallagher
Jerry Gallagher, 63, formerly of Lewistown, died Sept. 7, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital.
Cremation has taken place at Smith’s Crematory. No services are planned. Smith’s Funeral Home is in charge.

Susan M. Henry
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Susan M. Henry, 54, died Thursday, Sept. 7, at her home.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sheridan High School auditorium. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Joseph Robert Lunghofer
Joseph Robert Lunghofer, 50, of Billings, beloved father and grandfather died early Saturday morning, Sept. 2, 2000, near Casper, Wyo., from injuries received in a car accident.
He was born Oct. 25, 1949, in Gary, Ind., the son of Robert and Margaret “Peggy” (Wyland) Lunghofer. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was a petty officer second class, in construction building. He returned home to work as a heating and cooling technician for U.S. Steel. He also worked as a gunsmith.
Joe had an associate degree in electronics and was certified as a gunsmith.
His interests were being an avid hunter, gunsmithing, and constructing trophy model cars and crafts.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Survivors include his brother, Michael Lunghofer; sisters, Linda Lacy, Diane Coons, and Donna Marler; his son, David Lunghofer; daughters, Sherry Lunghofer, Kristina Shield, and Rebecca Lunghofer; and one grandchild, Cree Shield.
A mMemorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Smith West Chapel 304 34th St. W., with American Legion Post 4 military rites. Memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Association.

Pauline Milohov
Pauline Milohov, 77, of Billings, passed away Sept. 8, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital.

Mary Inez Nelson
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Mary Inez Nelson, 75, died Sept. 6, 2000, at her residence.
Visitation will be held at 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Kane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

David Plentyhoops Jr.
CROW AGENCY – David “Pistol” Plentyhoops Jr., 56, of Crow Agency, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, 2000, in Billings.
Baawaa’hdeesh (Gets things done easy) was born Jan. 14, 1944, a son of David Plentyhoops Sr. and Pearl Hogan. He was adopted by Francis and Cherise Stewart and was raised in the Wyola area. He graduated from Flandreau Indian High School in 1961, where he excelled in basketball.
During his younger years, he participated in rodeos particularly the bareback event where he was the Crow Fair champion. As he grew older, he served as a flag judge for rodeo events and was voted the flag judge of the year for 1984 and 1985 for the Great Plains, Rocky Mountain and the United Indian Rodeo Association.
He married Theresa Aargon and was later divorced. He was a member of the Baptist Church, Native American Church, Greasy Mouth Clan, a child of the Big Lodge Clan, Sun Dancer and a member of the Great Plains, Rocky Mountain, and the United Indian Rodeo Associations. He worked most of his life as a ranch hand and cowboy, mainly for the Arnie Bends, Max and Melvin Small ranches. He later worked for the Crow Tribe in the buffalo pasture, where he was remembered for his work and cooking talents.
Pistol was the former owner of the Forkstick of the Daytime Sacred Ceremony Black Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his father; adopted father; one sister, Eleanor; and two brothers, Garland and Walter.
Survivors include his mother, Pearl Hogan of Crow Agency; three daughters, Sherry (Ryan) Fitzpatrick, Audrey and Vashti Dawn Plenthoops of Crow Agency; two sons, Garland and Dustin Chad Plentyhoops of Crow Agency; five adopted sons, Randy Not Afraid and Harold Big Lake of Lodge Grass, Everett Howe of Washington, Aspen Brugh of Wyoming and Darrin Howe of Kansas; two adopted daughters, Carol Dean Reed and Laurena Holds of Crow Agency; five sisters, Majorie (Buckley) Pretty on Top of Lodge Grass, Sandra (Myron) Shield of Benteen, Colleen (Walter Sr.) Old Elk, Cheryl Plentyhoops and Gladys Jefferson of Crow Agency; one brother, Kenneth (Fannie) Plenty of Garryowen; three adopted sisters, Violet Hugs of Colorado, Clara Hugs of Harlem and Beldine Small of Rotten Grass; six adopted brothers, Marvin (Luanna) Stewart and Tom Stewart of Lodge Grass, Howard Roloff of Canada, Larry (Agnes) Pretty Weasel of Crow Agency, Elias (Theo) Hugs and Leo (Tammy) Hugs of Fort Smith; his adopted mother, Cerise Stewart of Wyola; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Sept 11, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Rodney D. Royal
Rodney D. Royal passed away Aug. 30 in the Deaconess Medical Center of cancer.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Billings Praise Center, 516 S. 37th St. Pastor Tony Gonzales will officiate.

Joe P. Salzman
WORLAND, Wyo. – Joe P. Salzman, 63, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, of a heart attack.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, and the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Clifford Shrank
SCOBEY – Clifford Shrank, 84, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the Daniels Memorial Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Waller Funeral Home with burial in the Scobey cemetery.

Frances Sikorski
BAKER – Frances Sikorski, 93, formerly of Ekalaka, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the Fallon Medical Complex.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church with burial in the family lot of St. John’s Catholic cemetery.

David R. Snyder
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. – David Roger Snyder, 51, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at his home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Monument Hill cemetery. Mortimore Funeral Home is in charge.
