MALTA – Bell B. Hageman, 57, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at her home from heart disease.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Marie L. Hass
Marie L. Hass, age 76, of Billings and formerly of Glendive, died on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Nursing Home in Billings.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive with Pastor James Hageman officiating. Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Marie was born on Nov. 16, 1923, in Bayard, Neb., the daughter of Henry and Anna Marie (Stroh) Deines. She was raised and educated in Bayard. She married Carl Hass on July 17, 1939, in Harrisburg, Neb., and they farmed all their lives in Nebraska and Wyoming before moving to the Glendive area in 1964. They farmed west of Glendive until 1987 when they retired. In 1996, Marie and Carl moved to Billings so Carl could be closer to the medical care he needed. They resided at St. John’s Lutheran Home until their deaths.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and will be missed. Marie lived the last part of her life as she had the rest of her life – with dignity, determination, strength and faith. Although Alzheimer’s disease robbed her of her mind, her heart and soul remained to sustain her loving family. At last, the peace and victory she so richly deserved is hers. Mother, your spirit and presence will always be with us.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, son-in-law Roger Burbach, four brothers, two sisters, 18 half brothers and half sisters and one grandchild.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Karlene Burbach of Glendive and Lorraine Irion of Billings; two sons, Wayne Haas and his wife Pat of Glendive and Steven Haas and his wife Marsha of Anchorage, Alaska; four sisters, Mildred Hass of Shelby, Clara Fries of Minatare, Neb., Vera Bowers of Bayard, Neb., and Wilma York of Martin, S.D.; one brother, Robert Deines of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; her half-sister, Millie Vogel of Bayard; 11 grandchildren. Terry Burbach and his wife Bonnie, Greg Burbach and his wife Naomi, Mark Haas and his wife Barb, Michele Martinson and her husband Kory, and Marci Fox and her husband Steve, Mia Bunnell and her husband Ty, Brian Haas and his wife Julie and Tara Tarapata and her husband Chris Lacey Kraft and her husband Josh, Ben Irion, and Vincent Irion; and 11 great-grandchildren, Daniel Burbach, Taylor, Amanda and Jordan Burbach, Jennifer Haas, Beth and Aaron Martinson, Dustin, Carl and Cole Bunnell and Eli Kraft.
A special thanks to the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Home. You were a large part of Marie’s life and the compassionate, loving and dignified care you gave her is greatly appreciated by her family. She is smiling at you from Heaven.

Pearl Taylor Hoiness
BISMARCK, N.D. – Pearl Taylor Hoiness, 93, of Bismarck, formerly of Billings, passed away Oct. 5, 2000, at Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck. She was born Pearl Florence Taylor, the daughter of Millie Forrest Heaivilin and Clyde Eugene Taylor, on Jan. 5, 1907, in Velva, N.D. and was a 1924 graduate of Sawyer (N.D.) High School.
She then worked in Minot until her marriage in 1933, to Edward Yocum of Fargo. Following their marriage, they moved to Montana and lived in Wolf Point, Kalispell, and Billings, where Mr. Yocum was manager of radio station KGHL. They were later divorced.
Pearl married Clarence M. Hoiness of Billings in 1949. Following his death in 1967, she moved briefly to Sheffield Lake, Ohio, and moved to Bismarck in 1972. While in Billings, Pearl was a member of the First English Lutheran Church and later joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Pratt of Sun City, Ariz., and Sue Mollison of Billings; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a step-brother, Alvin Francis of Minot.
Cremation has taken place in Bismarck and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Billings. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Verna M. Huber
LIVINGSTON – Verna M. Huber, 73, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at her home.
Following a visitation cremation will take place at Franzen-Davis Crematroy. Interment of the cremated remains will take place a later date in Pennsylvania.

Harry L. Johnson
Harry L. Johnson, 77, of Billings, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000.
He was born Aug. 9, 1923, at Seward, Neb., the son of Vera and Ella (Rabbitt) John-son. He married Helen Peterson on Oct. 10, 1948, in Red Oak, Iowa, and they mov-ed to Billings in 1960. Harry worked for the CB&Q Railroad and later for the Burlington Northern railroad He was a marketing representative for BN, retiring in 1981.
Harry served in the U. S. Army in Europe during WWII.
Harry was a member of Billings Lodge No. 113, A.F & A.M., of which he was a past master, was a past venerable master and held the Honorable 33rd Degree of the Scottish Rite Bodies; Al Bedoo Shrine of which he served as chaplain for many years and was a member of the Chanters and Greeters; Moss Agate Chapter, O.E.S.; Yellowstone Post No. 4, American Legion; Billings Elks Club and Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Harry is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Martha and her intended Leo Boyce of Billings and her children, David Sandier and his wife, Erika of KaIispell and Scott Sandler of Billings and their father, and Harry’s former son-in-law, Bob Sandler, Sam and her husband, Joe Barbero and their children, Carlo and Vincent of Billings, Mark L. Johnson and his wife, Cheryl and their children Luke and Cale of Springfield. Mo., Paul B. Johnson and his wife, Diane of Missoula and children Danielle and Devin Karr; and a brother, Harold Johnson and his wife, Helen Marie of Minden, Neb. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Venice Underwood; and brother, Irwin B. Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Shiloh United Methodist Church, 1810 Shiloh Road. Interment with military honors will follow at Mountview cemetery, Visitation will start Sunday, Oct. 8, at Smith’s Downtown Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Shrine Hospitals for Burn or Crippled Children; P.O. Box 20673; Billings, MT 59104.

Margaret Virginia Krug
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Margaret Virginia Krug, 75, formerly of Billings, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery.

Toby A. Mayer
MIDWAY, Calif. – Toby A. Mayer, 88, formerly of the Sidney and Fairview, Mont., area, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the Huntington Beach Hospital.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Sidney. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.

Henry R. ‘Hank’ Medvec
Henry R. “Hank” Medvec, 69 of Billings, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 7, 2000, in Billings. He was born December 30, 1930 in Connellsville, PA, to Michael and Grace Medvec.
Hank graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Connellsville in 1948. In 1952, he enlisted in the Air Force and served one year in Korea and three years in Billings, where he met and married Dorothy Roth, the most beautiful and caring person in his life. They were married for 43 years.
Hank retired from Mountain Bell in 1986. After his retirement, he enjoyed the Mustang games along with his wife Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Dorothy in 1998.
Survivors include his daughter, Joni Stoltz and her husband Jim; his sons, Bob Medvec and Don Medvec; his loving grandchildren, Kasandra, McKenzie, Rob and Desiree’; his sister, Marlene Heath; his two brothers, Ed Medvec and Michael Medvec; and his very special sister-in-law, Beverly Anderson.

Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist with interment with military honors at Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

Walter Reisenauer
GLENDIVE – Walter Reisenauer, age 74, of Glendive, passed away on Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Glen-dive Medical Center Extend-ed Care.
A Vigil Ser-vice will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at the Chapel of Sil-vernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal will be in Dawson Memorial cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Walter was born on May 9, 1926, in Dickinson, N.D., the son of Jacob P. and Barbara B. (Metz) Reisenauer. He was raised and educated in the Dickinson area and attended Stark County schools. He graduated from Dickinson High School in 1941.
Walt married Rose Monica Messmer on Feb. 2, 1963, in Dickinson. Later he married Kathryn Evans on May 30, 1987, in Glendive. They both preceded Walt in death.
He started working as a printer for the Dickinson Press in June of 1942, at the age of 16. After working seven years at the Press, he became the night foreman. Walt later worked in New England, N.D., for the plant printing the Hettinger Herald and the Slope County Messenger. In 1959, Walt moved back to Dickinson and worked for the North Dakota Herald, a weekly German paper. In 1960, he moved to South Dakota and worked for the Chamberlain Register. It was in 1964, when he moved to Glendive and went to work for the Ranger-Review, retiring after 25 years.
Walt was a member of the Eagles, Moose and German Hugarian Hall, and the past president of the Glendive Singles Club. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and Polka. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Walt is survived by a son, Curl Reisenauer and his wife Brenda of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Louise Reisenauer and her friend, Randy Olinger, and Melinda Reisenauer; two stepdaughters, Kathleen Drake and Sandra Guelff and her husband, Mike, all of Glendive; one brother, Jack Reisenauer and his wife, Karen of Dickinson; two sisters, Arleen Kuhn and her husband, Jerry of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Lorretta Rohrbauck and her husband, Alvin of Piedmont, S.D.; and seven grandchildren.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and twin sisters.

Mary Ann Roberts
GLASGOW – Mary Ann Roberts, 53, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at St. Vincents Hospital in Glasgow of an aneurism.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the First Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

John Schaefer
John Schaefer died Friday Oct. 6, 2000, at his home. He was born March 13, 1913, to Andrew and Marie in Plev-na.
John married Lorraine Krausz on May 1, 1941, at the family home south of Plevna. He farmed and worked for Herbst Con-struction until he retired and moved with his family to Billings in 1968. He often talked fondly of working on the construction of the Fort Peck Dam.
John spent his retirement years fishing, traveling, wood working and taking care of his yard.
He is survived by his wife, of 59 years; three daughters, Shirley Horton and her sons, Troy, Trent, Travis and their families of Fort Collins, Colo., Diana (Glenn) Myers and son, Jason Craig and his family of Laurel, Sandra (Dan) Dupea and daughters, Tabitha and Sammy Jo, Janice (Milton) Tollefsrud and daughters, Bridgit Fisher of Bismarck, N.D., and Brandi Tollefsrud of Bozeman. Also surviving are six great grandchildren; sister Lilly Adolph of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Arlene Schaefer of Billings; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jake, Otto and Emil and his only son, Kenneth.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th Street West. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held at 12-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, and 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, at Smith Downtown Chapel, and prior to services on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Smith West Chapel.

Wilhelmina ‘Minnie’ Schmidt
POWELL, Wyo. – Wilhelmina “Minnie” Schmidt, 93 died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held at 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Crown Hill cemetery.

John H. Schulte
GOLVA, N.D. – John H. Schulte, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, of cancer.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is in charge.

Helen C. Sorensen
FORSYTH – Helen C. Sorensen, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 at the Rosebud Health Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge.

Thomas G. Thompson
LAUREL – Thomas G. Thompson, 79, of Laurel, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 6, 2000, at Valley Health Care Center in Billings. The son of Guy and Minnie (Go-man) Thomp-son, he was born in Reed Point, Jan. 20, 1921.
Tom was raised and educated in Reed Point and graduated from Reed Point High School. Following graduation, he entered the service and served his country four years during WWII before his honorable discharge in Feb. of 1946.
On May 7, 1946, he married Mary O’Neill at St. Anthony’s Church in Laurel. Tom worked for the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads before retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and a 50 year member of the American Legion Club Post 123 in Laurel.
Tom loved to dance and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pinochle. He also enjoyed working on his uncle’s ranch south of Reed Point. Tom’s wonderful smile will be forever remembered by family and friends alike. He was a very loving and devoted husband and father and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Pat Thompson; his parents; his brother, Ira John Thompson; and his sisters, Angie Redl, Etta Jane Tufte, Evelyn Palaichuck, and Anna Whitford.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; of Laurel his daughters, Margaret Aaby (Darrell) of Laurel, and Eileen Skillingberg (Jason) of Longmont, Colo.; his grandchildren, Christopher, Kelli, and Sari Thompson, Jennifer and Kelly Skillingberg, and Stefanie and Shawna Aaby; his sisters, Marie Jordet of Columbus, Niletta Berry (Lawrence) of Reed Point, Rose Goddard (Lee Charles) of Columbus, and Lillian Traver Reed of Big Timber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Vigil Services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, and Funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at St. Anthony’s Church in Laurel. Rite of Committal with military honors will be in the Laurel cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Cancer Center or the charity of one’s choice.
