Pauline Haines

Pauline “Polly” Lawson Haines passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 8, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Albert W. and Pauline M. Olearnick Lawson.

Polly along with her husband, George, and four daughters, Stephanie Clifton, Amber Clifton Sweet, Michelle Haines Mejias-Mariani and Audrey Haines, moved to Montana from Pennsylvania in 1976.

Polly will miss her family and all of her friends, neighbors, and customers. She most heartily appreciated all the love, warm thoughts, prayers, support and help from all through her long illness.

Besides George and the girls, Polly leaves behind six grandchildren: Jausten Marie Bad Bear, Breyzen Storm Bad Bear, Madeline Pauline Sweet, Cortlen Santino Mejias-Mariani. Willem George Steinfeldt, Shawn Haines and one grandchild on the way; two wonderful sons-in-law, Sergio and Todd; two step-sons, Gary Joseph Haines and George Harry; two dear sisters, Marianne Huston and Frances Margaret Lawson; and brother-in-law, John Huston.

Polly felt she had a very full and good life in her 59 years and doesn’t want anyone to grieve too much. Our mom was a real renaissance woman. In her lifetime, she was the Avon Lady, a bank courier, a tractor driver, a gardener for the park service, the school cook, the OK-eh-beh gas jockey and finally achieving her dream, becoming “Polly” of the great and wonderful Polly’s Place. She not only was an amazing mother and wife, but she made an unbelievable difference in our lives and in those who knew her.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
