Patricia Derr

COLUMBINE VALLEY, Colo. – Patricia Derr, 66, of Columbine Valley, died Nov. 1, 2001, in Littleton.

Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place. Drinkwine Family Mortuary, Inc. of Littleton is in charge.

Patricia was born June 26, 1935, in Denison, Iowa. She married Roger Derr on March 6, 1970, in Denver.

She was a member of the Colorado Symphony Guild and the Columbine Country Club.

She is survived by her husband, Roger D. Derr of Columbine Valley; son, Sean P. Deer of Bozeman; two stepsons, Rick Derr of Castle Rock and Scott Derr of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; two brothers and five sisters.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gladys Van Blaricom

LIVINGSTON – Gladys Adelia Van Blaricom, 77, of Livingston, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at her home.

Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory in Livingston. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Veronica Marchand Tubman

RICHLAND, Wash. – Veronica Marchand Tubman, 88, formerly of Laurel, died in Richland on Nov. 22, 2001. She was born in Dickinson, N.D., on Oct. 18, 1913.

Vonnie married John L. Tubman, Jan. 18, 1930, in Laurel, and was a homemaker and longtime member of St. Anthony Parish.

She was preceded in death by her husband in August of 1975, and in 1994 by her longtime companion, Chuck Harris of Billings.

In September of 1999 she moved to Kennewick to be near her only child, Lauretta Pyzel. Vonnie is survived by her daughter, son-in-law Bob, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Mountview cemetery, Billings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to your local hospice or favorite charity.

Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge of arrangements.

Carrie T. Storkson Mattfeldt

Carrie T. Storkson Mattfeldt, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001.

Carrie, one of 11 children, was born on Aug. 1, 1910, in Hatton, N.D., the daughter of Karl and Esabella Storkson. On May 7, 1932. she married Hugh Mattfeldt in Glasgow.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hugh, two grandchildren and one great-grand child.

Survivors include sons, Carl and wife Marlys, and Bill and wife Jeanette, both of Helena, Swede and wife Rene of Arizona, Jim and wife Eunice of Hinsdale, Russ and wife Marlyn of Malta and Brian of Reno, Nev.; daughters, Sharon McDunn and husband Mike of Billings, and Corlis Huntsberger and Bob Powers of Great Falls. Carrie was grandmother to 28, great-grandmother to 57 and great-great grandmother to three.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a reception to follow in the church basement. Interment will be at the Hinsdale Lutheran Church at a later date.

Adam Valatkas, Sr.

LAUREL – Adam Valatkas, Sr., 86, of Laurel, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Laurel Evergreen Health & Rehab Center.

Adam was born Oct. 31, 1915, at Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Joseph and Anna Valatkas. He moved to Springfield, Ill., in 1918. He married Vera Lesko, Aug. 7, 1939, in Springfield. They moved to Laurel in 1990.

Adam had worked as a coal miner and cement finisher.

He is survived by his wife, Vera of Laurel; children, Jeanette Black of Yucca Valley, Calif., Margaret Rogers of Santa Ana, Calif., Tony Valatkas and wife Lynn of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Anna Hopkins and husband David of Billings; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and youngest son, Adam, Jr.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Inurnment will be in the Laurel cemetery.

A.W. ‘Jack’ Jennings

ROUNDUP – A.W. “Jack” Jennings, age 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 28, 2001.

Jack was born on Aug. 18, 1912, to Virgil and Ethel Jennings. He spent his entire life on his ranch south of Melstone. Jack graduated from Melstone High School in 1932.

Jack was a hardworking cattle rancher who was respected by all who knew him. He built a successful cattle ranch from his parents’ original homestead. He served on the Melstone School Board, his church trustee board and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Jack married Ilene McCormick on May 25, 1959, in Billings. With this marriage came three children whom Jack loved, raised, educated and considered his own. He loved having his kids and grandkids come home and at the age of 70 was still playing baseball out in the hayfield with them.

His wife, Ilene; parents Virgil and Ethel Jennings; sister, Julia and granddaughter, Elizabeth Wolff, preceded Jack in death. He is survived by children William R. McCormick, Jr. (Judy) of Golden, Colo., Sharon Wolff (Bill) of Billings and Jodie Treible (Butch) of the family ranch south of Melstone. Also surviving are his grandchildren, William R. McCormick, III and Jon McCormick (Molly) of Thornton, Colo., Ronald R. Treible, Jr. of Melstone, Melissa Donahue (Mitch) of Billings and Ramie Meredith (Neil) of Shepherd. Surviving great-grandchildren are Dylan and Devon Donahue, Benjamin McCormick and two-week old Ty Jennings Meredith.

Funeral services will be Saturday morning, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. at the Melstone Community Center, with Pastor Lynn Rettig of Musselshell officiating. Burial will be at the Melstone cemetery.

A special thanks goes to Teresa and Blanche and the staff at TLC Personal Care Home in Roundup where Jack had resided for the past three years.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Melstone Senior Citizens or the Melstone School Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Wier Funeral Home of Roundup is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Irene Squires

GLASGOW – Mildred Irene Bondy Ramsbacher Squires, 90, of Glasgow, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Nashua. Burial will be in Nashua City cemetery. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge.

Dean P. Jansma

Dean Pierce Jansma, 73, of Billings, passed away at his home Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2001. He was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Billings, the son of John and Jennie Jansma and grew up in Broadview.

Dean attended school at the Capital Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C. where he met and, in 1949, married , the love of his life, Hattie Mae Gray. Their union was blessed by two daughters, Diana and Debi.

Dean worked for WCPO in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1949 to 1957. He and his family then moved to Billings where he was instrumental in building and starting KULR 8 television, first known as KGHL TV. For 37 years, Dean was chief engineer and saw many changes in technology. He was always proud to be a part of the KULR 8 family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Anita. Dean is survived by his wife of 52 years, Hattie; two daughters, Diana Jansma and Debi Stokke and her husband, Steve; grandchildren, Eric and Katelyn Jansma; step-grandchildren, Holly (Jerry) Bertrand, Megan, Blake and Russell Stokke; step-great-grandchild, Devon Bertrand; brother-in-law, Marvin Pansegrau; and numerous other relatives.

“God Bless you Dad for all you have done and been for us!”

A memorial service with Masonic Rites will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th Street West. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow in the reception area of Smith West Chapel. Cremation has taken place.

John Carson

BAKER – John W. Carson, 80, of Baker, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Stevenson Funeral Home Chapel in Baker.

Frieda Patch

MILES CITY – Frieda Patch, 80, of Miles City, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Holy Rosary Health Care in Miles City.

Visitation will begin Friday, Nov. 30, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Stevenson & Sons. Interment will follow in the family lot in Custer County cemetery.

R. Wayne Myers

ISMAY – R. Wayne Myers, 64, of Ismay, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at the Deaconess Billings Clinic.

Visitation will begin Thursday, Nov. 29, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Stevenson & Sons. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, in the family lot in the Knowlton cemetery.

William Herrick Gordy

William Herrick Gordy passed away peacefully in his home Friday, Nov. 23, 2001.

He was born July 4, 1924, the only son of Martha Herrick and William Thomas Gordy, in Wilmington, Del. He was a good son and much loved by his mother and Aunt Clara, as well as cousins Audrey and Vivian, whom he grew up with after his father passed away in 1939 and the two families moved in together.

Bill graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in Wilmington in 1942 and shortly thereafter entered the United States Air Force. World War II saw many heroes and our memories of those great persons who led the battle for freedom will live on in their memories and stories of their triumphs. Bill was a “Tail Bomber” with the “Mighty Eighth” Air Force. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Air Medal and the Good Conduct Medal 4 OLC’s before being honorably discharged in September 1945.

He met and fell in love with Claire Levinia Pitts and they were married in Hurlock, Md., on July 6, 1957. They lived in Claymont, Del., until 1990 and had one daughter, Marcia, whom they both adored.

Bill was very artistic and witty and his talents were evident in his career in the advertising business. He was affiliated with Walsh Advertising, Inc. and Craig Advertising, both of Wilmington. During his career he was an award-winner, long-standing member and past President of the Ad Club of Wilmington. After retiring from advertising, Bill worked seasonally for the Brandywine Raceway, first heading up valet parking and later in the Club House. He enjoyed the camaraderie at the track and was sorry to see it close.

After his wife’s death in 1992, Bill moved to Billings to be with his daughter and her family. He made some wonderful friends in his short time out west.

He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Gordy Honaker, son-in-law William D. Honaker; grandchildren William W. and Alexandra E. Honaker; his cousins Vivian Townsend of Wilmington, Laurie Townsend of Detroit, Mich., and Jon Manchester of Newark, Del.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Claire P. Gordy; and his mother and father.

Cremation has taken place and internment will be at the Gordy family plot in Riverview cemetery, Wilmington.

Dad, I love you with all my heart. You will be greatly missed. Happy sailing ... Pussycat.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Prairie Tower.

Michelotti-Sawyers has charge of arrangements.
