Virginia M. (Mutton) Tarr

Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died in peaceful grace Jan. 31, 2002.

She was born Aug. 30, 1911, to Merta M. and Harrison J. Mutton who preceded her in death.

On March 23, 1935, she married Loren Andrew Tarr and he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1982.

Virginia is survived by a sister, Mary L. Helsley; brother John M. (Jack and Grace) Mutton; stepson Loren M. (Nancy) Tarr of Brilliant, Ohio, and their children; stepdaughter Eula E. Stoll of Toronto, Ohio, and her children; her sons James R. (Nancy) Tarr of Billings, John C. (Denise) Tarr of Helena; grandchildren Karen M. (Don Balmer) Tarr, Jeffrey D. Tarr, Eric C. (Kelly) Tarr and Pamella J. (Greg) Western and three great-grandchildren.

Psalm 40:4. “Happy are those who make the Lord their trust, who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods.”

Virginia was an active longtime member of the Weirton Women’s Club, the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Steubenville, Ohio, and in these last few years, a resident of the Aspen Meadows Retirement Community of Billings.

A memorial service with internment following will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Steubenville.

Memorials to charities of ones choice in lieu of flowers is requested.

Kent R. Zimmerman

Kent R. Zimmerman, 58, of Billings, died at his home on Feb. 6, 2002, after a courageous battle with emphysema.

Kent was born June 4, 1943, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Virgil and Ilda Zimmerman.

He graduated from New Hampton Community High School in 1961 and from Iowa State University in 1966, after which he began a career in marketing that including service to International Multifoods in Minneapolis and Webb Publishing in St. Paul, and culminated in an 16-year career as vice-president and senior vice-president of the Billings-based Kampgrounds of America; he retired in 2000.

Kent was twice the Montana delegate to the White House Commission on Small Business.

He served on the boards of the Recreational Vehicle Association, a national organization; the Rural Tourism Commission; and the Old West Trail Foundation.

He was involved in the planning process for the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Expedition Celebration; as such, he initiated and was the driving force for the production of a one-hour film about the Expedition, which was distributed, free, to schools and chambers of commerce.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan, whom he met in high school; his children Matthew (Christy) of Billings, and their daughter Devin, 7; son Lucas, 3; and infant twin daughters Megan and Cassidy; Roderic (Sherry) of Shepherd, daughter Amanda, 12; son Nile, 10; and daughters Aimee, 9; and Kendra, 8; and Elizabeth Heath (Rick) of Shepherd and son Dillon, 6; and his sister Kay Snider (C.H.) from Twin Falls, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kent, a devoted family man, adored his wife and loved playing with and teaching his grandchildren about life.

He was interested in wildlife and enjoyed camping and hunting.

He was an avid golfer.

An aficionado of old west culture, he also wrote western-inspired poetry and loved music.

Kent was known for his character and integrity.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Avenue.

Interment will follow at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.

Helen Wayman

RED LODGE – Helen Wayman, 92, of Red Lodge, formerly of Powell, Wyo., died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Beartooth Hospital and Health Center in Red Lodge.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Community Church in Red Lodge.

Charles William Sloan

BIG TIMBER – Charles William Sloan, 92, of Big Timber, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Pioneer Medical Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Congregation Church, with Rev. Lawrence Pray officiating.

Charles was born Sept. 16, 1909, at Big Timber, to the late William and Eva (Bush) Sloan.

He has been a lifetime farmer and rancher.

Charles married Agnes Ostrom in October 1929; she preceded him in death in 1983.

He was an avid fisherman who tied his own flies.

During his younger years, he enjoyed hunting.

Charles was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife Ann, who resides in nursing home in Billings; one son, Richard A. Sloan of Sheridan; three daughters: Carol J. Badgley of Benton, Wyo., Evelyn M. Bouley of San Antonio, Texas, and Cleo J. Guevara of Big Timber.

One brother, Harold Bush of Phoenix; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive Charles.

Lowry Funeral Home is pleased to assist the family with the services for Charles.

Barbara Rose Wright

WOLF POINT – Barbara Rose Wright, 50, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at the Northeast Montana Health Services Facility in Wolf Point.

A private graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, in the Webster cemetery, Webster, S.D. Clayton Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point is in charge.

Harold S. Baer

Harold S. Baer, 83, of Billings, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Evergreen Healthcare in Lockwood, after a short illness of cancer.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Sixth and Grand.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with VFW Military honors.

He was born June 29, 1918, in Hoven, S.D., the son of Bernhardt and Kathrine (Miller) Baer.

He received his schooling in Bowdle, S.D., and later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the special forces in the South Pacific and was discharged in 1945.

He re-enlisted in 1951 and served one year during the Korean War.

He married Ann Jung in Bowdle on Jan. 1, 1946.

They lived in Bowdle, Miles City, and came to Billings in 1963.

Harold had worked for the railroad, a sales rep. for the Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner Co., and worked as property manager for various apartments in the Billings area.

After retirement, he worked for the foster grandparent program until his illness.

Harold loved to work with arts and crafts and enjoyed his family, friends and church.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a past commander and quartermaster of the VFW Post 1634.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; one son, Mike (Pattie) of Kalispell; a daughter, Peggy Kirkpatrick of Waitsburg, Wash.; one brother, Edmund of South Dakota; a sister, Alma Wolff of Arizona; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Paul and Mark; and three brothers.

Arrangements are by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Helen M. Haskin

GLENDIVE – Helen M. Haskin, age 91, of Glendive, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at the Glendive Medical Center Extended Care Facility in Glendive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive, with Pastor Paul Everett officiating.

Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive.

Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.

Helen was born on Oct. 14, 1910, in River Falls, Wis., the daughter of Elmer and Antonette (Austrum) Ramberg.

She attended Lindsay Grade School.

On Nov. 23, 1929, Helen was united in marriage to Ingebret “Ed” Lovaas in Glendive.

He preceded her in death in 1976.

She married Glen Haskin in 1984 and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Helen was a member of the Chancel Guild at Zion Lutheran Church.

She loved to play cards, reading, taking walks and dancing.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Eldon Lovaas; two sisters, Clarice Sampson and Norma Ramberg; and one brother, Adrian Ramberg.

Survivors include two daughters, Adele Brant and her husband Jack of Glendive, and Marlene Barth of Billings; one son, Loren Lovaas and his wife Pat of Glendive; her daughter-in-law, Jean Lovaas of Lakeside; one sister, Lillian Haskin of Miles City; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Meta M. Kalloch

Meta M. Kalloch, 100, of Billings, formerly of Glendive, died Tuesday Feb. 5, 2002, at the Deaconess Billings Clinic.

Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary.

Vigil services will be 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday. Feb. 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Rite of Committal will be in Dawson Memorial cemetery, Glendive.

Frank A. Lukenbach

LAUREL – Frank A. Lukenbach passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 5, 2002.

He was born in Roberts on Jan. 15, 1938.

He lived and farmed at Roberts for 20 years.

On Jan. 20, 1964, he married Lillian Richardson.

Together, they raised four children.

During the last 15 years, he has worked for Gene Klamert at Klamert Railroad Salvage as a shop foreman and mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; his mother, Nancy; his oldest son, James and wife, Angelene; his daughter, Nancy and husband, Ron and grandchildren, Miranda and Jacob; his son Stacey and wife, Barb and granddaughter, Amber; and his youngest son, Rodney.

He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley and husband, Joe Roll, and Karen and husband, Ray Roll; and his brother, Victor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Clifford, and sister, Vivian.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and a good friend to all he knew.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel, followed by cremation.

Mamie Grace Zinsli

BEACH, N.D. – Mamie Grace Zinsli, 90, of Beach, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Mont.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Silvernale-Silha Funeral Chapel in Beach.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach.

Rite of Committal will be in the St. John’s cemetery in Beach.

Alan Marshall

Suddenly, as the result of a tragic accident, Alan Marshall, 46, of Billings, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002.

Alan was born July 12, 1955, in Glasgow, Scotland.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Karen Battersby.

Alan will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Services will be held at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings, Monday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m.

All friends are respectfully invited.

Love is when being together for eternity isn’t long enough.
