Emilie 'Lillian' Zimmerman
(January 21, 1921 - January 2, 2012)

Emilie “Lillian” Zimmerman, age 90 of Helena, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 at Big Sky Care Center. She was born Friday, October 21, 1921 in Helena, Montana, she was the daughter of Joseph and Amelia (Richert) Zimmerman.

After graduating high school, Lillian had been employed with several jobs of interest in the Helena area, working in a bakery, a hotel, and in sales. Lillian had many hobbies which included sewing, needle work, flowers, being a homemaker and she was a lifelong member of Saint Mary Catholic Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; older brother, Bernard J. Zimmerman and nephew, Brian Zimmerman.

Lillian survived by her brother Joseph J. Zimmerman; Nieces and nephews, David Zimmerman, John Zimmerman, Timothy Zimmerman, Kelly Zimmerman, Kevin Zimmerman, James Zimmerman, Julie Kakajuchi, Leeanne and Alicia Zimmerman all of Helena; Gregory and Brenda Durgin of Boise, ID; Philip Durgin of Sacramento, CA.

Other survivors include, Mary Jane Zimmerman (wife of Joseph Zimmerman), Michael and Gail Zimmerman, Leslie and Kim Simkins, Jeffrey Zimmerman, Terrance Zimmerman all of Helena, Karen and Stephen Durgin of Spokane, WA, Vincent Zimmerman of Denver, CO.

A Vigil service will begin at 6 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Retz Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 12:10 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2012 at Saint Mary Catholic Community with interment to follow at Resurrection cemetery. Memorials in Lillian’s name may be sent to the Right to Life of Montana, 1900 Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT 59601 or to any Catholic Charities of donor’s choice.

Dugan Snyder
(January 20, 1954 - December 29, 2011)

Dugan Snyder was called home to be with our heavenly father on December 29, 2011.

She was a resident of the Masonic Home in Helena for three years and passed away at the Renaissance Assisted Living Home in Helena.

Dugan was born on January 20, 1954 in Boise, ID to Melvin Eugene Snyder and Georgiann Laca.

Dugan was 57 years old and was a C.N.A. for many years in Helena.

Dugan is survived by her sons, Matthew and Jason (Tabatha) Dikes; Brother Maurice (Rebecca) Snyder; Sister Kristine (Jay) Harvey; Grandchildren Haley Hannah-Dikes, Jason Dikes II, Zack Dikes, three nephews, one niece and several aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and two aunts.

Dugan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Helena, services will be held there in the sanctuary on Saturday January 7, 2012 at 2pm.

REGINALD SPENSLEY

North Havre resident Reginald Lloyd Spensley, a retired custodian for Northern Montana College, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes. He was 71.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Glacier Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kalispell with full military graveside honors.

Reginald was born Dec. 2, 1931, to Lloyd B. and Greta Mae (Aitchison) Spensley in Livingston, Calif. He attended school in Turlock, Calif. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy he worked for his father on the family farm as a milker. He then worked as a milker for several commercial diaries.

He married Ethel Stevens in Turlock. The couple later divorced. She died in 1995.

In 1974 he met and married Janet Carol Harper and the couple resided in Kalispell. In 1980 the couple moved to Havre where he worked at Havre High School and later at Northern Montana College as a custodian until retirement in 1993.

He was extremely fond of animals, especially his dogs, Bubbles and Boo Boo. He also enjoyed working in the yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Scott Spensley in 1974 and Todd Spensley in 1994; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Janet Spensley of Havre; daughters, Michelle (Victor) Jones and Pam Spensley, both of Portland, Ore., Stephanie (Dean Olson) Spensley of Athens, Ala., Anna Gardner of Billings, and Helen (Steve Gooch) Elmore of Havre; sons, Ronnie (Patty) Gardner and Victor (Lisa) Gardner, both of Hillsdale, Mich.; brother, Gavin T. Spensley of Turlock; 29 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Reginald's honor may be made to the American Lung Association, 825 Helena Ave., Helena, MT 59601-3459.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home of Havre.

Raymond J. 'Jack' Shanahan
(December 31, 1948 - December 29, 2011)

Raymond John ‘Jack’ Shanahan Jr., age 62, of Helena, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 in Butte, Montana.

Raymond was born December 31, 1948 in Great Falls, MT to Raymond John and Elizabeth Mary ‘Betty’ (McCormack) Shanahan.

He was raised in Augusta and lived in Helena except for a few years living in the Seattle area.

Raymond was inducted into the US Army in 1970 and served our country honorably in Vietnam where he was a decorated war veteran.

After his honorable discharge from the service he had various occupations including Helicopter Mechanic, Carpenter, Roughneck, Ranch hand, and Hunting Guide.

Raymond loved hunting, fishing, everything outdoors, and horses. He loved his family, kids, and animals.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Moose Lodge.

Raymond was preceded in death by his dad, Raymond John Shanahan in 1986, and a brother, Francis (Frank) Shanahan in 1978.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Mary ‘Betty’ Shanahan; children, Ray Anderson and Katie Anderson; brothers, Danny, Larry (Phylis), Pat (Valerie); sisters, Mary Ann (Ed) White, Kathy (Ron) Griffith, Tiger Albracht, Betty Jayne, Eileen (Gary) O’Brian, and Mona (John) Byers; and four grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Retz Funeral Home Chapel.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Montana State Veterans cemetery, Ft. Harrison.

A reception will follow the service at the American Legion 3095 Post #2 on Villard Ave., in Helena.

Lloyd Edward Ticknor
(September 9, 1928 - October 6, 2011)

Lloyd Ticknor went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2011, in Helena MT.

He was born on September 9, 1928 in Anoka, Nebraska, to Vaughn and Eva Ticknor.

In high school, he was the point guard on his championship basketball team.

He met the love of his life, Jessie Brown when she was a soda jerk.

They loved to dance, and spend time with their family, they were married 62 years.

Lloyd was a J.C. Penney manager in several stores in Nebraska and Montana.

They moved to Livingston, MT in 1969, where he managed Robbins, Inc. Department store until he retired in 1993.

Lloyd enjoyed his job and helping people.

He was a kind and patient man.

He instilled in his children honesty, loyalty, hard work, and how to love each other.

He loved to fish, camp, hunt, travel, and a good practical joke. His family was very important to him.

His grandchildren and great-grand children will remember him taking them to the park to feed the ducks, and will miss him making them barbeque chicken and ribs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Luellen Deming and Lucille Harrison.

He is survived by his wife Jessie of Helena MT, one sister Vera Whipps of Arizona, four children, Cheri (Dale) Bakken of Conrad, MT, Gary (Connie) Ticknor of Powell, WY, Peggy (Lynn) Rolfe and Vaughn (Dana) of Helena, MT, 20 ¾ grandchildren and 20 ¼ great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held at Hunters Point, 2801 Colonial Drive, Helena, MT, 59601; October 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.

Minna Maxine Miller
(January 31, 1926 - September 27, 2011)

Minna M. Miller, a lifelong resident of Helena, died peacefully on September 27, 2011.

Minna was predeceased by her parents, Elsa and Jacob Miller and her three older brothers Harry, Mark and Robert.

Minna had a beautiful voice and performed frequently in Helena, especially in many events at area churches.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Home of Peace cemetery in Helena.

Minna had a great passion and love for dogs.

Memorials in Minna’s name may be sent to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, PO Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604.

Lois Naomi Carlson
(May 3, 1917 - September 30, 2011)

Lois N. Carlson, age 94 passed away on September 30, 2011 at Elkhorn Healthcare & Rehab in Clancy.

She was born May 3, 1917 to John T. and Virgie E. (Whitlock) Wilson in Minkler, WA.

Arrangements are pending at this time and will be announced when completed.

JAMES EPLER

HARLEM - James Joseph Epler, 63, died of an intestinal rupture at his home Thursday evening, Aug. 7, 2003.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Harlem High School gymnasium with burial following in the Harlem cemetery. Cremation has taken place at his request.

Jim was born on Oct. 17, 1939, in Glasgow to Keith and Cathleen (Ramey) Epler. He graduated from Harlem High School and attended Northern Montana College in Havre.

Jim married Marcella Poore of Zurich on Sept. 9, 1961. He worked for Knute Kulbeck and lived and worked on the Brook Farm, which was also known as the Mohar Place. They moved several times but remained in the Harlem area. Jim also worked for the O'Leary's Service Station. In 1966 Jim started his own construction business. In 1979 they moved to town, where Jim continued his full-time construction business. In June of 1991 they purchased the Handy Market.

Jim was preceded in death by his son Curtis Epler in 1985

Survivors include his wife, Marcella Epler of Harlem; daughters, Cindy (Darryl) Magnuson of Billings and Candus (Robert) Scheffelmaer of Harlem; parents, Keith and Cathleen Epler of Billings; sister, Margaret "Peg" (Dwight) Grimm of Argile, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is handling arrangements.
