Gene Tack

Gene Tack, 79, of Missoula died at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Whitesitt Funeral Home and Cremation of Stevensville.

MYRON MARRA

SHELBY - Myron Samuel "Sam" Marra, 87, of Shelby, a retired pharmacy owner and businessman, died of natural causes Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at a Great Falls hospital.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. William Catholic Church in Shelby. A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Sam was born in 1916 in Havre to Joseph and Rosa (Lavatore) Marra. He attended St. Jude's Elementary School and Havre High School. After high school, he attended Northern Montana College for 2 years. In 1940, he received a Degree in Economics from the University of Montana where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. U.M. was also the place where he began a lifelong friendship with the late Senator Mike Mansfield.

On Nov. 30, 1940, he married Jeanette Thull at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Havre. During World War II, he served in essential services as an air traffic controller in Great Falls. In 1949, he opened the Marra Drug Store in Shelby. After selling the store to Jack Wells in the mid-1960s, he worked as a sales representative for Newbro Drug until his retirement.

He was a member of the Shelby Elks, the Shelby Jaycees, the Marias Valley Golf and Country Club, the U.M. alumni association, the Shelby Chamber of Commerce, was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus and a past chairman of the Toole County Democratic Party. He also served on the Shelby City Council for many years, and was a 30-year director on the Marias River Cooperative board.

He was a renowned singer in various bands, operettas and in a variety of other venues in and around the Missoula area in the 1940s. He was an avid fisherman as well. He was also extremely proud of his Italian heritage.

He was a beloved father and husband. Sam and Jeanette would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in November. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Eva Barlet, Antonette Carissimo, Mildred Sturdivant and Francis Neely.

Survivors include his wife Jeanette of Shelby; daughter Rosemary Dean and her children Glenn Dean, Mike and wife Sandy Dean and their children Tanner and Noah all of Shelby; daughter Shelley Marra and Cleo Horner of Great Falls; daughter Kristin Marra, her partner Judith Kaftan and their daughter Rachel of Seattle and son Joe and wife Yungmi Marra and their children Samuel Joseph and Maria Louise also of Seattle.

Whitted Funeral Chapel of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.

RUSSELL OBERG

Russell F. Oberg, 87, of Havre died of natural causes at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Holland and Bonine Chapel with the Rev. Rowlie Hutton officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Eagles Club.

Russell was born in Chinook on Oct. 21, 1916. to Paul and Regna Oberg, Russell attended school in Zurich and graduated from Chinook High School in 1935.

He married Leona Claridge on Oct. 20, 1939. They lived and worked in the valley and farmed a place of their own east of Zurich. Later they owned and operated the Zurich Cash Store along with other businesses.

Russell began his career with the Great Northern Railway in the track operations and maintenance division in 1950. He and Leona moved to Havre with their family in 1953, where he continued to work for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern railways. Russell retired from the BN in 1978. He then had more time to enjoy working in their yard and garden. In 1994, he and Leona were recipients of the Yard of the Month Award.

Russell was well known for his kind, generous and caring nature. He enjoyed his garden, had a keen interest in politics, and especially enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. In September, Russell's extended family, along with a host of friends, gathered at the family home for a memorable picnic.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.

Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Leona, and his parents.

Survivors include his sons, Rod (Karen) Oberg of Epping, N.D., Dr. Steven (Bev) Oberg of Sparks, Nevada, and Danny Oberg of Lacey, Wash., five grandchildren; brother, Sterling Oberg of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Virginia (Louie) D'Hooge of Havre and Lois (Val) Konecny of Shoreline, Wash.; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, including Kelly and Judy Jones and Kenny Jones of Havre.

Memorials may be made the City of Havre Parks and Recreation Department for improvements to S Curve City Park or to the donor's choice.

Chet Stevens

Chester W. "Chet" Stevens, 88, of Thompson Falls, formerly of Trout Creek, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at the Marcus Daly Memorial hospice center from complications of Parkinson's disease. Chet is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen; daughters, Doris (Darrell) Grimm of Thompson Falls and Marilyn (Terrol) Crane of Victor; son, William Stevens of Missoula; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Curtis (Ella), Clarence (Loretta) and Otho (Kay); sisters, Clorene (Don) Mayer, Ruth Cromer and Emma Whitfield; sister-in-law, Dorothy Stevens and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Thompson Falls on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Community Congregational Church with Pastor Gaylund Olsen officiating. Interment will take place a Whitepine cemetery at a later date.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children, Spokane, Wash., or to the Marcus Daly Memorial hospice center, Hamilton, MT 59840. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel.

ANNIE ASH

Annie Ash, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at a Great Falls nursing home.

Cremation has taken place at her request. No services are scheduled at this time.

Annie was born on April 1, 1924, to Wilfred and Ada (Lindley) Heap in Swinton, Lancashire, England. She was raised and educated in England.

She married Percy Boettger in Kent England in 1948. Annie was a war bride and came to the United States on the Queen Mary. The couple made their home in Havre and had two children. The couple later divorced.

Annie married Emil Ash in 1969 in Havre. Annie worked for Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services as a bookkepper.

Annie was active in the Havre community and was a member of the VFW Auxillary No. 497 and the Eagles Auxillary No. 166.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil Ash; and grandchild, Ross Smith Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Smith of Fort Benton; son, Glenn A. Boettger of Conrad; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.

Antoinette J. (Klemish) Rideg

Antoinette J. (Klemish) Rideg, 73, of Huson passed away in the afternoon, Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

Antoinette was born Feb. 15, 1931, to Mary and Anthony Klemish in Westport, Conn.

She grew up and lived most of her years along the coast of Connecticut. She enjoyed traveling widely and later in life moved to Montana to be with her children and grandchildren. Her passions included stained glass, hiking, and playing with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles, in 1997.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyne, in Boulder, Colo.; two sons, Mark and William in Huson; two grandchildren, Lauren and Eric; a loving daughter-in-law, Cassandra and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place at the Dowling Crematory.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

If you wish, the family suggests donations be made to the Missoula

Humane Society or the American Cancer Society in their mother's memory, instead of sending flowers.

Ronald Brothers of Dowling Funeral Home and Crematory, 415 S. Second St. in Hamilton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Juanita L. Matz

Juanita L. Matz, 87, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, in Hamilton at the Valley View Estates.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

IRVIN ANDERSON

HOGELAND - Irvin Eugene "Irvie" Anderson, 66, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in Whitefish with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Saint Thomas Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Harlem High School gymnasium with burial with military honors in the Harlem cemetery.

Irvie was born on Feb. 19, 1937, in Havre to Clause and Ann (O'Leary) Anderson. He graduated from Harlem High School in 1956, enrolled at Northern Montana College, and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960.

Irvie married Connie McCoy on Nov. 4, 1963, at Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, and graduated from NMC in 1965. He taught school in Rudyard, Chinook, Hogeland and Harlem, before retiring from teaching and focusing on farming and raising hogs full time.

He served as a committeeman on the Blaine County FSA Board for nearly 30 years.

Irvie enjoyed his friends with a round or two of golf in the winter at Lake Havasu, Ariz., and really enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Anderson of Hogeland; sons, Tom (Julie) Anderson of Havre, Jay (Kimberly) Anderson of Whitefish; three granddaughters; sisters, Vonnie (Dale) Klungland of Harlem and Bernice (Murdy) Rismon of Havre; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Gift of Life Housing in Great Falls.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

OMER C. THON

STANWOOD, Wash. - Omer C. Thon, 71, died on Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in Stanwood, Wash.

Omer was born in Havre to Ingvald and Olina Thon on May 18, 1932. The family farmed out of Kremlin. He lived in Montana until 1943, when he moved to Mount Vernon, Wash., after the death of his father. He attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated in 1950 from Union High School.

After graduation, he began his career in accounting with the firm of Hartwick Accounting, until he was called into the service of his country, serving in the Army from October 1952 until his honorable discharge in October 1954. He then continued in the accounting field with his last employment with Florence Packing Co. of Stanwood.

Omer married Pamela Burnell in November 1978 and was the stepfather to Pam's son, Jerry. After the death of his niece, Verna Lee Carrier, Omer and Pam raised her youngest daughter, Lori-Anne.

Omer was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mae Arnzen.

Survivors include his daughter, Lori-Anne (Dean) McPherson of Camano Island, Wash.; stepson, Jerry Burnell Jr. of Hillsboro, Ore.; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; sister, Mabel Cooper of Mount Vernon, Wash.; nephews, Gene Cooper of Mount Vernon, Wash., Don Amzen and family of Enumclaw, Wash., Gene Mortenson of Redlands, Calif.; niece, Linda Robbins and family of Renton, Wash.; special family, George and Cathy Nygard and family of Sumas, Wash.; special cousin, Margaret Swick of Havre; and numerous other cousins, great nieces, nephews and friends.
