Emma Louise Marlowe
Emma Louise Marlowe, 93, of Missoula passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 13, 2004, at Golden Age Assisted Living Home. Emma was born June 10, 1911, in Steger, Ill., to August and Virginia Magini, who immigrated to America from Italy in 1906. She was one of nine children, four brothers, and five sisters. The family moved to Montana in 1922, and to Missoula in 1923. In 1925, they moved to Stevensville, where they farmed. Emma finished high school in Stevensville, then moved to Missoula, where she was employed by Montgomery Ward Co. and Barthell Hardware. On May 3, 1941, she married
Thomas N. Marlowe. The next year, her husband entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II.
After the war, Emma became active in the American Legion Auxiliary and served in many offices, including president of Hellgate Unit #27. She was also a member of the 8 and 40, an honor group of the American Legion. She was a member of the auxiliary for over 50 years.
The family had a cabin at Flathead Lake for many years. This was a popular retreat for many friends and relatives. Two family reunions took place there. One of Emma's favorite pastimes was trolling for kokanee salmon in Skidoo Bay in front of the cabin.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1992. She is survived by her son, Thomas Marlowe, Jr., who was a teacher in Montana and Alaska; brothers, Gene Magini of Stevensville and Frank Magini of Salome, Ariz.; and sister, Nelle Leigh of Parma, Idaho.
Graveside services will be held of Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Missoula City cemetery. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home.
Robert George Zeiler
Robert George Zeiler, 87, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Marcus Daly hospice center. He was born May 18, 1917, in Pond Creek, Okla., to George and Mary Zeiler and moved to the Bitterroot Valley in 1928 at the age of 11.
He married
Charlene (Peaches) Garrod of Victor May 26, 1939, and the couple lived in Hamilton. They had one son, Larry, born in 1942. He spent his life working in the logging industry and was logging superintendent at the Champion International in Darby at the time of his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1990; his parents, sisters, Irene Williamson and Lillian Clements and brothers, Adolph, Phillip and Elmer.
He is survived by his son, Larry; sisters, Marlene Zeiler and Maybelle (Richard) Overholtzer of Missoula, June McKay of Stevensville; brother, Richard (Pat) Zeiler of Hamilton and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Riverview cemetery in Hamilton. Pastor Ralph Holmlund of the Faith Lutheran Church will be officiating.
Ronald Brothers of Dowling Funeral Home and Crematory, 415 S. Second St. in Hamilton, is in charge of arrangements.
PAUL OVERLIE
CHESTER - Paul Bernard Overlie, 63, of Chester died at his home Sunday, July 27, 2003, of natural causes.
A memorial service was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester with a reception luncheon to follow. Cremation has already taken place under the direction of Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
Paul was born on Jan. 23, 1940, in Terry to Olav and Elaine Overlie. The family moved to Bozeman when he was 12 and he attended junior high and high school there. After his enlistment in the Air Force in 1956, he returned to Bozeman where he met Dorothie Kelley.
Paul and Dorothie were married
in 1959 during a double ceremony in which his brother Richard married
Bonnie Kelley. Paul and Dorothie lived in Bozeman, Seattle and Havre before settling in Chester in 1963.
Paul worked at Keith's Chevrolet in Chester in 1963, then started working at the County Fair IGA store later that year. He became the manager of the store and remained in that job until November 1974. After working construction jobs for two years, Paul settled into a position at Marias Equipment Company, where he became parts manager in 1977. He worked for Marias Equipment and at the same building for Big Sky Equipment until the business was closed in 1999. He went to work in the parts department at Benchmark Equipment in Chester until it closed. From there he worked at Torgerson's in Ethridge until his death.
Paul enjoyed being with people and working, especially with his hands. His hobbies included working on projects for himself, his family and friends. He was a strong swimmer throughout his life and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, skiing, hiking, camping and just about any outdoor activity. He enjoyed sports, especially Chester High School sports. He was instrumental in starting the wrestling and tennis booster club and was an avid reader. He particularly enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothie Overlie of Chester; daughters, Wendy of Havre, Amber Thompson of Olympia, Wash., and Heidi of Chester; sons, Paul Jr. (Joy) of Chester, Darren (Lisa) of Havre, and Mitchell (Lissa) of Fallon, Nev.; six grandchildren; brother, Eric (Kate) of Belgrade; sisters, Donna Lingle of Shelby, Mary Overlie of New York City, N.Y., and Deborah (Bill) White of Bozeman; sister-in-law, Bonnie Eppers (Gary) of Fort Benton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edward R. Patzer
Edward R. Patzer, 76 of Hamilton passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton with Pastor David Gerig officiating. Private family urn placement will take place at a later date.

Leonard J. Ratkowski
Leonard J. Ratkowski, 83, of Hamilton passed away in the morning, Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at the Marcus Daly hospice center in Hamilton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton. A full obituary will follow.

Curtis Mark Schmitt
Curtis Mark Schmitt, 48, of Magazine, Ark., passed away Dec. 17, 2004, in Magazine.
He was a welder.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Schmitt.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23 at Roberts Memorial Chapel, with burial in Swilling cemetery near Magazine, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Oleta Brewer of Magazine.; three son, Kevin of the home, Brian of Magazine, and Wade of Booneville, Ark.; his grandmother, Mildred Helm of Darby; parents, Glen Schmitt of Magazine, and Kathryn Schmitt of Paris, Ark.; a sister, Kathy Davis of Paris, Ark.; two brothers, Russ of Magazine and Doug of Seattle, Wash.; and two granddaughters, Heather and Maiya.
Pallbearers will be Glen, Russ, Doug, Brian, Wade, Kevin and Brad Schmitt.
Ethyl C. Stool
Ethel C. Stool, 86 of Hamilton passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 at her residence in Hamilton.
Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
William "Doc" Smith
William "Doc" Smith, 72, of Darby passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born July 28, 1932, in Cedar Key, Fla., the son of William Sr. and Verdie Smith.
Doc was raised and educated in Florida. After high school he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served until his honorable discharge. Doc married
Wilma D. Gydesen on June 1, 1952, in Oakland, Calif., and together they had four children.
Doc was a charter member of the International Order of Camel Jockeys. He was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kathleen Broderick. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wilma, of Darby; three children, Michael Smith of Reno, Nev., Patrick Smith of Reno and Rebecca Niles of Darby; three sisters, Virginia Scott of Lakeland, Fla., Mary Vannier of Plant City, Fla., and Marie Allen of Fallon, Nev.; one brother, Ronald Smith of Redwood City, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services for Doc will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.p. at the Four Square Church in Darby with Pastor John Yuhas officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Daly-Leach Chapel.
Ethel Caroline Yerian Stoll
Ethel Caroline Yerian Stoll was born Nov. 1, 1918, to Amanda and Asa Yerian in Hamilton. In 1939 she married
Elbert "Al" Stoll and moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., where she enjoyed many years as a ceramic instructor at her ceramic studio.
When Elbert retired in 1977, he and Ethel moved "back home" to Hamilton. Ethel continued her hobbies of china painting, quilting, sewing and gardening.
Ethel was preceded in death by Elbert, her husband of 62 years, and brothers, John, Harry, Burney and Ray Yerian, and sisters. Nell Sparman and Nona Griffin, all of Hamilton.
Ethel is survived by her brothers, Charles, Ace and Bob Yerian, all of Hamilton, and her sister Margaret Phillips of Pinehurst, Idaho; son, Elbert Richard "Dick" Stoll of Reno;, daughter, Gale Harshbarger, of Hamilton; grandsons, Brett Stoll of Reno and Russell Harshbarger of Eugene, Ore.; granddaughters Rhonda Bowlin of Hayden, Idaho, and Lisa Filappone of Las Vegas; nine great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at the Daly-Leach Chapel from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Corvallis cemetery.
A potluck reception will follow the graveside service at Ethel's home, 508 S. Third St., Hamilton.
August James Uhlenbusch
August James Uhlenbusch passed away Dec. 22, 2004, at the Discovery Care Centre in Hamilton.
He was born May 13, 1919, in Moscow, Idaho, to August (Gus) Uhlenbusch and Ragna (Rena) O. Johnson Uhlenbusch.
He was raised in Moscow and was attending the University of Idaho when he joined the Navy in 1942. He served in the Pacific theater, spending the majority of his time in the Philippines, until the end of the war, when he was discharged at Bremerton, Wash., on March 8, 1946. He returned to Moscow to finish his education at the university.
He then returned to the West Coast, living in Seattle, Portland, and finally moving to Long Beach, Calif. There, he worked for Union Pacific, staying with them through numerous corporate changes until his retirement. James relocated to Montana in September 2003 to be closer to his family when a sudden illness forced him to make a change in his living arrangements. He left many friends and colleagues in California and had fond memories of them that he shared with his new friends here.
His father, mother, and two sisters preceded him in death, Norma Herrin and Helen Santee.
He is survived by one sister, Grace Martiny of May, Idaho; two nephews, Jim Martiny of May, and George Santee of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five nieces, Linda Martiny, and husband, Mike Donnelly, of Concrete, Wash., Peggy Martiny and husband, Burleigh Curtis, of Corvallis, Virginia Martiny of May, Rena Litton of Ashton, Idaho and Jacquelyn Herrin of Salmon, Idaho.
James was a good and honorable man and will be missed by his family, the many friends he left in California, and the many new friends he made while at the Discovery Care Centre. His family will always be grateful for the love and care that the staff at Discovery Care Centre gave him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton with Pastor David Gerig officiating.
Interment will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Moscow cemetery in Moscow, Idaho, with military honors presented.

Elveda Duus, 74, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at her residence.

Joyce Luetta Redding, 104, of Stevensville died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at the Bitterroot Valley Living Center in Stevensville.

George Wallace Canfield
George Wallace Canfield, 83, of Stevensville died at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004.

Larkin Calhoun Wood
Larkin Calhoun Wood, 95, of Missoula entered into eternal rest Dec. 17, 2004, at home with family present and the hope and knowledge that we will one day be together again.
Larkin was born April 2, 1909, on the family ranch in Santa Rosa, N.M., to John William and Jean Sterling Calhoun Wood. He attended Montezuma College in New Mexico. He married
Ora Lee Jones Sept 1, 1934, at Las Vegas, N.M. He owned a welding shop in Santa Rosa. He worked as a welder building the air bases in Roswell N.M., Clovis N.M. and La Junta Colo. He also worked on the A bomb at Los Alamos.
They moved to Victor after the war, where he owned a welding shop. In 1948 the family moved to Corvallis. He worked in Missoula for United Prestress Company until his retirement. He owned and operated a trailer court in Missoula. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his new gas/electric 2004 car.
Larkin was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Clora Francil, and three sisters, Ruth, Edith and Betty.
He leaves behind his wife, Ora Lee Wood; one son, Delbert (Ginni) Wood; daughters, Ora Mae (Dave) Mabbott, Betty Jean (Nolan) McCauley, Ruby (Joe) Berry, Ruth (Dan) Thorn and Della Wood; eight grandchildren, Douglee, Bobbie, Barbara, Derrick, Dusty, Doris, Jenny and Sheena and nine great-grandchildren, Amanda, Dadin, Kayle, Cassandra, Joshua, Kaylee, Taylor, Brainna and Randee.
He was blessed with many friends including Arv Galbavy and Ed Basque.
Memorial services will be held Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Garden City Funeral Home.
