John O. Dial

John O. Dial, 66, passed away early in the morning, Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula due to a motorcycle accident on the West Fork Bridge. He was born to John O. Dial, Sr. and Margret Lucille Washburn September 17, 1938 in Dinuba, California. John graduated from Campbell High School in June of 1956. He joined the Navy three months later to fulfill a dream of becoming a member of the Silent Service, a submariner. John served on five submarines. The USS Bass, Bonita and Ronquil were diesel boats. The Sculpin and Seadragon were nuclear. After serving with the Pacific fleet for 20 years, he retired in January of 1976 and lived with his wife, Marion and daughter, Anne in Fremont, California.

Following retirement, he attended Ohlone College and taught electronics at Heald Technical College in San Jose, California. John spent his next career as the Western Region Supervisor for Varian Brothers Medical Division. His staff was responsible for installing and maintaining radiation therapy equipment for hospitals and clinics throughout the western United States.

John had many hobbies during his life. Skydiving, scuba diving, motorcycle riding, drawing, painting and golf. These interests kept him busy before he moved to Montana. Here he was able to do target shooting, reloading, and his favorite, horseback riding. Two years ago he had his memoirs published, Conversation With a Steampipe. John wrote poetry as well as short stories. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed playing his guitar, keyboard and harmonica.

Two years ago, John had a DBS (deep brain stimulation) procedure as part of a nation wide study on Parkinson's disease. He had been diagnosed with PD when he was 41.

In retirement, John and his wife, Marion lived in Conner on property they purchased in 1976. Their only daughter, Anne Lennis, lives in Stevensville with her husband Steve and two children. John's granddaughter, Paige Alexandria just turned 16 and his grandson, Derek Matthew is 10.

John was the oldest of five children. Mike Newhall, Larry Newhall, Gary Newhall and Robin Zoch are his surviving siblings. John has been cremated at the Dowling Crematory. The family is planning a Celebration of Life next spring or summer, at which time they will disperse his remains on the mountains surrounding his home in Conner.

Bobbie King

Bobbie King, 65, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. She was born April 9, 1939 in Oakland, CA the daughter of Richard M. and Ethel E. Shipp. Bobbie is survived by her husband Howard King of Hamilton, 4 daughters, 7 sons and 8 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2004 at 6 pm at the Daly-leach Chapel.

BETTY NEMETZ

LOHMAN - Betty Nemetz, 77, of Lohman died early Thursday morning, Aug. 28, 2003, at a Great Falls hospital following surgery after a brief illness.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Lloyd Sweet Auditorium at the Chinook High School. Burial will follow in the Kuper Memorial cemetery.

Betty was born on June 30, 1926, on the family farm in Paradise Valley east of Chinook to P.O. and Besse (Overcast) Butler. Her younger years were spent with her parents, along with sisters Rosaleen, Emma and brother J.T. and five short years with Danny. Her life took on a whole new meaning in the fall of 1940, when at the age of 14 she met the true love of her life, James K. Nemetz of Lohman.

Betty and Jimmy dated for four years and were married on June 7, 1944, in Chinook, just weeks after she graduated from Chinook High School. In those 59 years of marriage and their life on the farm in Lohman, their love and respect for each other was a true example for all to follow.

Her special memories included family get-togethers, games, races and dances at Zurich Park, classmates at North Fork School, entering at the Blaine County Fair, dancing with Jimmy at Logie or anywhere else she could be in his arms, yardwork, her perfect penmanship, beet harvest, the many trips to Glacier and all the travels across the United States, class reunions and all-class reunions, Kenny Overcast concerts, lights, 4-H, FFA, FHA, music concerts, sporting events, and anything her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved in, her daily hand of rummy with Jimmy after lunch, riding with Jimmy on his hauling trips every chance she could get. She brought joy to family, friends, and strangers with countless acts of kindness, including the view for many travelers on U.S. Highway 2 who enjoyed the lighted tractors in their yard at Christmas time.

Betty was active until the day she went to the hospital. She sewed, baked, decorated, cooked, crafted, loved, shared, cared, visited, supported and encouraged.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, P.O. and Besse Butler; brother, Danny Butler; and brother-in-laws, Jack Peterson and George Turner.

Survivors include her husband, James Nemetz of Lohman; daughters, Becky (Bill) Blake of Havre and Anita (Pete) Haluszka of Harlem; son, Ed Nemetz of Lohman; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; sisters, Rosaleen Peterson of Billings and Emma Turner of Moore Croft, Wyo.; brother, J.T. (Wilma) Butler of San Antonio, Texas; just like a brother Bob (Nancy) Inman of Chinook; three great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

Memorials may be sent to one's choice.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

Lillian E. Williamson

Lillian E. Williamson, 92, of Missoula died at Bitterroot Valley Living Center in Stevensville on Saturday, November 20, 2004.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Whitesitt Funeral Home and Cremation of Stevensville.

Kristina Clute Smith

Kristina Clute Smith, 54 of Hamilton, Montana passed away Friday, November 19, 2004 at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, MT.

She was born July 11, 1950 in Spokane, WA to the late George E. and Beverly J. Clute. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1968. She married Milton Smith in 1970, the couple divorced in 1973.

Kris worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Darby, The U.S. Probation and Parole in Seattle, and Southside Licensing in Spokane, WA.

Kris was a voracious reader, enjoyed games, bowling and loved family get togethers.

She was preceded by her parents, grandparents Roy and Dorothy Larson, and William and Laurena Clute.

Surviving include her sisters, Robin Clute and Georgia Clute both of Hamilton, MT.; Shawna (Michael) Cozza, Inga (Tony) Gerimonte, and Erika Clute all of Spokane, WA., Heidi (Mike) Kandilas of Helena, MT.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 26 at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton with Rev. Dan Dixon officiating. Private family urn placement will take place at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers are Mike Cozza, Mike Kandilas, Tony Gerimonte, Steve Cook, Wesley Ewalt and Erik Kandilas.

The family suggests memorials to the Arthritis foundation or the Bitterroot Humane Association.

Mary Katherine Schweitzer

Mary Katherine Schweitzer, 77, of Corvallis passed away November 22, 2004 at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospice Center. She was born in Cleveland on April 12, 1927. At eight weeks she was adopted by Robert Morgan Whitney and May Henrietta (Willis) Whitney and received her primary and secondary education in Winona, Minn.

She is survived by her husband Hans R. Schweitzer of Corvallis, son Robert M. Schweitzer of Lake Stevens, Wash. and her daughter Lyn W. Graves of Great Falls.

Cremation has taken place and no memorial services will be held. Private urn placement will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Daly-Leach Chapel.

Paul A. Sine

Paul A. Sine, 80 of Victor passed away Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Discovery Care Centre in Hamilton. Private family interment will take place at Riverview cemetery in Hamilton. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Bitterroot Humane Association. 262 Fairgrounds Rd., Hamilton, MT 59840.

RICHARD PLOUFFE

MALTA - Richard (Dick) Joseph Plouffe, 65, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, in Fargo, N.D., from a heart attack while visiting a longtime friend.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Adams Memorial Chapel in Malta. Interment will be in the Malta cemetery.

Dick was born on Oct. 29, 1938, in Malta to Lewis and Mabel (Homier) Plouffe. He was raised and educated in the Strater community.

He worked various farm and ranch jobs in the area before going to work for the Malta Irrigation District. He retired from the district in 2002 after 28 years.

The joy of Dicks life was his garden. He waited for seed catalogs to come so he could start planning and planting right after the first of the year. Dick shared his garden produce with family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and shopping.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mabel Plouffe; sister, Dorothy Ames; and brothers, Dale Plouffe and Grady Plouffe; and nephews, Steve Plouffe and Jeff Waters.

Survivors include brothers, Louis (Jean) Plouffe of Billings, Don (Nellie) Plouffe of Saco, Edward (Willie) Plouffe of Glasgow, Gary (Wilma) Plouffe of Malta; sisters Gail (Willie) Johannesen of Havre, Judy Richard Messerly of Malta, Nancy (Jim Jones) Soennichsen of Malta; brother-in-law, George Ames; sister-in-law, Kathy Fladland; and several nephews and nieces with whom he had developed a special bond.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eldon S. Lemke

Eldon S. Lemke, 57, passed away in the evening, Sunday, November 21, 2004, at the Hillside Manor in Missoula. Final arrangements are pending. Ronald Brothers of Dowling Funeral Home and Crematory 415 S. Second St. Hamilton 363-1111 is assisting the family with arrangements.

CHARLOTTE PERRY

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Charlotte Ann (Green) Perry, 65, of North Haven, Conn., died on Saturday, June 21, 2003.

The wake will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Cabrini Church, 56 Pond Hill Road, North Haven, Conn., with burial to follow at St. Thomas' cemetery in Southington, Conn.

Charlotte was born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Havre to the late Leslie and Frances (O'Neil) Green. Leslie and his son Richard Green ran the Valley Dry Cleaners for many years.

Charlotte grew up in Havre and graduated in the Havre High School class of 1955. She attended college at Northern Montana College for two years and then the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn.

She was a second generation Havre native, her grandparents having settled here in the late 1800s. She lived in Connecticut for the last 40 years, but was always a Western girl at heart and "back home" always meant Havre.

She met her husband Dick (Dominic) Perry, of Southington, Conn., while he was stationed at the Air Force in Havre in 1957. They both "had other fish to fry" and Charlotte left town to attend college in Minnesota and later to work for the CIA in Washington, D.C. They were married six years later on Sept. 2, 1963, when Dick, after pursuing her in a courtship that spanned three states and six years, finally convinced her to say "yes" and move to Connecticut.

Charlotte worked as a teller.

Theresa Naomi Sheldon

Theresa Naomi Sheldon, 88, of Hamilton passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Valley View Estates. She was born July 28, 1916 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Theresa was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Kirkhart. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Wheelhouse of Corvallis and Diana Board of Duvall, Wash.; a granddaughter, Emily Wheelhouse of Darby; 10 grandchildren who live out of state and 13 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and private interment will take place in Washington.

Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel.

BEN BRADBURY JR.

RUDYARD - Ben Alfred Bradbury Jr., 66, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Monday, May 26, 2003.

It was Ben's wish to be cremated without fanfare. In remembrance of his life, the family has planned a small gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the home of Alfred Bradbury, 717 17th St. in Havre.

Ben was born in Havre to Beulah Wilcox and Ben Bradbury Sr. on Dec. 19, 1936. He received his formal education there and graduated from Rudyard High School in 1955. In the few years that followed, he worked on the family farm.

Ben enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957. He attended aviation school and attained the rank of Specialist-4 before his honorable discharge in 1960. He transferred to the Army Reserve Corps until 1963.

Following his military years, Ben attended college at the University of Montana, majoring in education. He continued his schooling in Colorado, where he earned his masters degree in mathematics.

Ben pursued a career in teaching in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He taught school at Browning for four years, then served as principal at Sunburst, and eventually became superintendent at Ryegate.

Ben married Judy A. Blaquiere on May 26, 1973, in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home at Lake Blaine. He operated several businesses in the Flathead Valley, including Danny's Restaurant. When Ben's father became ill in 1979, they moved back to Rudyard to help on the family farm. In 1993 the Bradburys began wintering in Quartzsite, Ariz.

In his younger years Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He continued to love fishing and traveling. He was a strong believer in education and he improved his personal knowledge through his love of reading. He enjoyed playing solitaire or board games with his family. Ben loved to laugh and even through his poor health, he maintained his good sense of humor. His family was important to him and they will remember him as a kind-hearted father and a loving husband.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Judy Bradbury of Rudyard; daughter, Brook Bradbury of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, Brad Bradbury of Rudyard; sisters, Beverly Leopold of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Bonita Baker of Shelton, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester.

Donald Lloyd Pateman

Donald Lloyd Pateman, 73, of Stevensville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Halifax Community Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla., after a short illness.

Born July 22, 1931 in Waukesha, Wis., the son of Lloyd and Frances Pateman, he married Jean Irma Lehman Aug. 27, 1952, in Jefferson, Wis.

He was working for the National Forest Service in the Ocala National Forest as a camp host. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stevensville.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Susan Kahrs (Mark) ofOrlando, Fla., and Linda Pateman-Hannah (Shawn) of Sonora, Calif.; two sons, Daniel Pateman (fiancé Carol) of Modesto, Calif., and Tom Pateman (Valerie) of Stevensville; nine grandchildren, Christopher Kahrs (Kim) of Hartford, Wis., Andrew Kahrs (Emily) of West Bend, Wis., Travis and Tanya Pateman-Stokman, of Sonora, Jarrod and Danielle Pateman of Modesto, Elliot, Ethan and Emily Pateman of Stevensville; and two great-grandchildren, Dillon and Halle Kahrs of Hartford.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 184 Pine Hollow Road at 3 p.m.
