Christian David Fletcher

Christian David Fletcher, 4 months, of Provo, Utah, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., of complications of hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

Christian was born Nov. 17, 2003, in Ann ArborI to David Allan and Kim Lee Fletcher. Christian touched many lives and many hearts. He taught us the true meaning of love. Even though he was born with heart defects and at such a tiny size of only 2 pounds 6 ounces, he was a fighter with a strong will to live. A will so strong it saw him through two open heart surgeries and many medical procedures.

Doctors and nurses would often comment that he was a miracle baby and a strong little guy. His nicknames included Elvis (for his long sideburns), Mighty Mouse, little peanut, and buddy. He was so young, yet, you always knew where you stood with Christian. He was very expressive, with cute little scowls, or big questioning eyes, and a way of looking at you, you knew he was looking at your soul.

He patiently endured all that this life had to give. Christian spent his life in a hospital, but, he was still a baby learning to smile, reach for things, and trying to roll over. We as his family took great joy in these little milestones. He loved to rock in his mama's arms for hours at a time, or have his hand held for comfort.

He brought the best out in people. He helped us to be more loving, more forgiving and to turn to the Lord. We will dearly miss his chubby cheeks, his great big eyes looking up at us, and his incredibly sweet spirit. We look forward to the day we can be together again with Christian in his perfect body able to house his perfect spirit. We will miss him for a lifetime and love him for an eternity.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Noel Fletcher; great-grandmother, Geneva Lucinda Chaffey; great-grandfather Robert Pierce, and great-grandfather Ivan Wendel Stocks.

He is survived by his parents, David and Kim Fletcher; six sisters, Kyla Dean, Karra Melissa, Rachel Elizabeth, Olivia Jordan, Annika Montana, and his twin Geneva Ruth Fletcher, all of Provo, Utah; grandparents Alan and Vicky Chaffey of Lolo; Gordon and Connie Fletcher of Bartlessville, Okla.; aunt, Kari Beagley, of Kalispell; uncle, Brad, and aunt, Karalee Fletcher, of Simi Valley, Calif.; uncle Jeff Fletcher of Salt Lake City and 10 cousins.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hamilton Chapel with Ian Northcott officiating. Interment will follow at Victor cemetery in Victor. A reception will follow at the church.

Pallbearers are his father, David Allan Fletcher, and uncle, Bradley Gordon Fletcher.

James (Jim) Franklin Pile

James (Jim) Franklin Pile passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital May 16, 2004. He was a quiet man with a gentleman's spirit.

James (Jim) Franklin Pile was born on May 11, 1910, in Louisville, Ky., to his parents, Lillie and Henry Pile. His mother died at his birth, so he was raised by his loving grandparents Martha and John Pile, and three doting aunts, Emma, Hannah, and Ada Pile on their farm in Mook, a small country town outside Hardinsburg, Ky.

At the age of 20, upon the death of his grandmother, Jim traveled by bus to Corvallis, to live with his aunt and uncle, Pearl and Parson Pile, from whom he learned his life's occupation, beekeeping. The warm, small-town atmosphere in Corvallis was a perfect fit for Jim. He joined local baseball and bowling teams and became a charter member of the volunteer fire department. He drove a "school bus" for the Corvallis school district, having converted a 1933 Ford truck into a makeshift "bus." He married a local schoolteacher, Doris Randall; they had two daughters, Barbara and Lois.

Jim enjoyed a lifelong love of the outdoors. The placid beauty of Lake Como was his sanctuary. He was an avid fly-fisherman, steelhead fisherman and big game hunter. He recalled that his favorite day of work was, while employed as a truck driver in Yellowstone Park, the day his job was to catch enough fish for the camp's evening meal.

He took great pride in his vegetable garden, having gained a wide reputation for his crops of Montana watermelon and cantaloupe and his "roasting ears."

He was a knowledgeable beekeeper. He sold honey to large retailers as well as a wide clientele of locals. He loved to tell the story of a "time of honesty and trust" when he could post a sign for customers, instructing them to take the honey they wished to purchase and leave their money in a box nearby. When he retired from this honey producing business, he built and sold bee supplies, and worked for the state of Montana as an assistant bee inspector.

His parents and his two sisters, Connie and Margaret, and his brother, Morris, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Doris R. Pile of Helena; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Jere LeDesky of Mesa, Ariz., and Barbara and Ken Berg of Helena; five grandchildren, Alyson and Jeremy LeDesky and Kyle, Kevin, and Trevor Berg; a nephew and wife, Karen and Bud Pile of Potomac.

At Jim's request, no services will be held at this time.
