EVERETT ZUMBRUN
ROBERTS – Longtime Roberts area rancher Everett Zumbrun, 89, passed away Sunday morning, August 3, 2003. Grateful that his wish to die at home was granted, Everett loved the ranch where he was born and lived his entire life.
A son of Clarence and Hedwig Kebschull Zumbrun, Everett was born on July 9, 1914 on the Zumbrun Ranch north of Roberts. Ranching was much more than a business to Everett — he treated his cows with nearly as much love as he showed his dog and companion, Pepper. He worked hard and was proud of his accomplishments over the years.
On July 2, 1942 Everett married Alice L. Burris in Red Lodge. He served on the Rock Creek Water Board for over thirty years, and belonged to the Eagles and Elks Lodges of Red Lodge. He greatly enjoyed the dances at the Elks Club, fishing on Rock Creek, and he had a special fondness for his grandchildren. His family and friends were often entertained with stories about his life experiences. Although he exhibited a gruff exterior and manner, he always had that twinkle in his eye.

Zumbrun of Roberts; his children, Judy (Corb) Strommen of Boyd, Sylvia (Glenn) Clabaugh of Gillette, Wyoming, Roger (Jane) Zumbrun of Roberts, and Darlene (Mason) Mikkola of Missoula; his niece Cheryle (Gene) Hunter and Doug (Susan) Linderman, both whom he helped raise to become part of the family; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Lloyd Zumbrun of Belgrade and Earl (Bertha) Zumbrun of Billings; five sisters, Ida Schwend of Red Lodge, and Irma Ellis, Hazel Conway, Norma Freeman and Florence Steiner, all of Billings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

JEAN PARKER HUNTER
BRIDGER – Jean Parker Hunter, 83, joined the Lord on Monday evening, August 4, 2003 at her home in Bridger.
Jean was born on October 19, 1919 in Tacoma, Wash., a daughter of Zelda and Oscar Severson. At age 5 she was adopted by Fred and Scottie Pearce. Jean and her brother Leigh spent their childhood years in Loma Linda, Calif.
It was in California Jean met Calvin Parker, and they were married on Sept. 18, 1937 in Yuma, Arizona. Calvin trucked up and down the West Coast, and Jean was busy raising their new family. Shirlene was born in Loma Linda in 1938, followed by Ronnie in 1942 in Ashland, Oregon. That same year Jean and Calvin and family moved to Bridger where they began farming with Grandpa Frank Parker. Two old school friends, Beulah and Lee Lucas and Varble Tuell and families—lifelong friends, all from Loma Linda, later joined them in Montana.
While Calvin and Grandpa worked the farm, Jean worked as a waitress at the Clarks Fork Café, a clerk at the drug store, a Girl Scout leader in her spare time, and was actively involved in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In 1951 another daughter, Penny, joined the family. The Parker’s doors were always open, and they accepted Bob Ferguson and Tom Salveson as part of their family.
The Parkers enjoyed many activities with family and friends, including rock hunting, fishing trips to Sage Creek, picnics, country dances, and card parties. Everyone Jean met was a friend. Jean’s daily entries in her diary tell a wonderful story of love and friendship. Mr. Parker passed away in June of 1972.
On December 7, 1973 Jean married Roy Hunter. Their new life together included traveling around the country, fishing and enjoying each other’s company at their home in Belfry. Roy passed away on April 15, 1994.
Jean moved back to Bridger to be closer to family and old friends. She kept busy in clubs, church, senior citizens, card games and her breakfast club. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean had a good sense of humor and enjoyed a good prank. She was always supportive—her smile and comforting words always seemed to make everything all right. She will be truly missed.
Survivors include her three children, Shirlene (Lanny) Baumann of Hardin, and Ron (Ginny) Parker and Penny (Mike) Kidwell, all of Bridger; one sister, Betty Kilgore of Apache, Texas; 9 grandchildren Brent, Lyle and Laramie Baumann, Rod and Randy Parker, Jared, Neil and Megan Kidwell, and Kelly Mortensen; 9 great-grandchildren; and four nieces, Sandy, Darlene, Jerry and Betty Jean. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leigh and Kenneth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 8 at the Bridger Seventh Day Adventist Church. Interment will be in the Bridger Cemetery, with Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bridger Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Bridger Volunteer Fire Dept. or Bridger Ambulance Service, or to the charity of one’s choice.
