Larry Dean Hansen
Larry Dean Hansen, 42, a lifetime resident of Glendive, died surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
Mr. Hansen was born on Aug. 11, 1965, to Donald Hansen and Caroline (Kukus) Hansen. He grew up living in Forest Park. He graduated from Dawson County High School in 1983, and married Ronda Adams on May 11, 1985.
He was employed at the Glendive Medical Center for 20 years. Mr. Hansen also worked with his father-in-law, Arlo Adams, running a wild game meat processing shop. He enjoyed helping his children with projects and attending all of their school and sporting events.
One of Mr. Hansen’s greatest loves in his life was going snowmobiling with his friends and family. He truly enjoyed those trips to the mountains and dreamed of one day retiring there with his wife.
He was well known and loved by many people in the community; this was proven beyond a doubt when a benefit was held for him in September of 2006. The attendance and contributions from the community were astonishing. Mr. Hansen was very thankful and full of emotion whenever he talked about the community’s generosity.

May Elizabeth "Betty" Blum Crone
May Elizabeth “Betty” Blum Crone, 89, died gently and peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2008, lovingly surrounded by her husband, daughter and son-in-law.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1918, at her Grandmother Maggie’s home, near Twelve-Mile Dam, south of Miles City to Alvin E. and Gertrude E. Blum. She grew up on a farm south of Miles City, and graduated from Custer County High School in 1936.
On June 27, 1936, she was united in marriage to Herbert D. Crone at the First Methodist Church in Billings. To this union, two children were born, Herbert G. “Jerry” and Vicki Lee.
In Miles City, Mrs. Crone assisted her husband, Herb, in the grocery business and by 1959, they owned and operated their own store, Herb’s Superette, until retiring in 1978. She also worked part-time for many years as the bookkeeper for her brother-in-law, Glenn Crone, at his Glenn’s Standard Service Station in Miles City and was also as financial secretary for her beloved First United Methodist Church.
In addition to this, she volunteered in many different capacities with the Red Cross (during Word War II), the Blood Mobile, RSVP, and delivered Meals-on -Wheels for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chamber of Commerce Gems, Republican Women, Range Riders, Charter member of the Sage Riders, Miles City Club, Pythian Sisters, and life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Miles City.
Not content with several part-time jobs and many volunteer positions, Mrs. Crone found time not only to raise a family, but to help the elderly. She took loving care of her mother and aunt in their last years, as well as a neighbor lady by helping them in their day-to-day living. As their helper, she was truly a blessing to them, always putting their needs ahead of her own.
Mrs. Crone was a strong-minded, active woman who freely admitted she had difficulty “sitting still, ” preferring to be busy with some task or activity. She was also a very bright woman, skilled in whatever task she undertook. Her daughter found her to be a good problem-solver, who could be consistently counted upon for ideas to navigate life’s never-ending challenges. In younger years, she enjoyed dancing the night away, and throughout her life, loved a good game of bridge, playing golf or bowling.
Mr. and Mrs. Crone lived in Miles City until moving to Billings in 2005 to be closer to their daughter, Vicki.

Jane A. Ness
Jane A. Ness, 73, of Miles City died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, after a long illness in Colorado.
She was born May 23, 1934, in Hillsboro, N.D., graduated from high school in New England, N.D., and moved to Miles City to attend nursing school at the Holy Rosary Hospital, graduating in 1956.
Family and community were everything for Mrs. Ness, dedicated to her four girls as 4-H leader, sports mom, and everyone’s family nurse. It’s said she raised more than her own as a mom, mentor and friend to many.
Mrs. Ness was an avid bowler and inducted into the Montana Woman’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1996. She spent more than 20 years as a surgical nurse caring for Montana veterans at the VA, retiring in 1994. After she retired, she spent several winters traveling with her husband, Lindy, to visit her girls and friends around the country.
Surviving are her husband, Lindy; daughters, Barbara Kalland and husband Kevin of Billings, Christal Ness of Helena, Colonel Leslie Ness of Colorado Springs, and Kimberley Ness of San Francisco; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Leah, and Julia.
We invite you to join us in celebrating and honoring Mrs. Ness’ life at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home, 1717 Main St., Miles City, with a reception directly following at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall.
Memorials may be made to the local ASPCA in your area.

Shirley Ann Trimmer
Shirley Ann Trimmer, 76, of Flagler, Colo., died at her home on Friday, March 7, 2008.
Born in Nebraska, she met her husband Fred in Greeley while attending Colorado State College. Mr. Trimmer was visiting the city during a college outing from Colorado A & M where he was studying to become a teacher and that shared goal drew them together. When they married in 1952, she left school to become a wife and mother, but she was always a teacher at heart. Mrs. Trimmer often substituted at the various schools Mr. Trimmer worked for, and was acknowledged as the “substitute of choice” by students and teachers alike.
Mrs. Trimmer loved her job as Flagler librarian where she was completely in her element amongst the literature. As an avid reader, she gobbled books especially those with a mystery or thriller twist, and shared them freely with neighbors and family.
If Mrs. Trimmer earned any Life Achievement Award, it would be for “Mom” as that was without question her favorite job.
Her five children survive her: Dave (and Lori) of Spokane, Wash.; Marc (and Janice) of Houston, Texas; Jeanette of Hendersonville, N.C.; Alisa (and Russ) of Tigert, Ore.; Michael (and Leanne) of Lewisberry, Penn.; as well as 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The many children who considered her a “second mom” through the years and the scattered friends her family gained over many years of travel will miss her, too.
The Trimmers moved often in their teaching career, and finally settled in Flagler, which Mrs. Trimmer considered home. However, she also loved her time in Miles City and had fond memories of her curling days in Grand Centre, Alberta, Canada, where she became an aficionado and participant of that national sport.
An accomplished seamstress, her family shares fond memories of her abilities in constructing the backpacks and tents she could sew up for their outdoor adventures, as well as the prom dresses and dance costumes for more dressy events. She was also a memorable cook whose recipes will live on in the next generations.
Survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Fred, as well as a brother, Raymond, she also leaves many nieces and nephews and extended family too numerous to mention by name.
Her parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Trimmer was a prairie woman at heart who loved the wide, open plains. She was fond of saying she could live in a sod house — as long as she could have all the modern amenities inside.
A memorial service and reception was held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at the Trinity Hill Church in Seibert, Colo.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Community Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 101, Flagler, CO 80815 or Trinity Hill Church, 307 Kansas, Seibert CO 80834.
The Love Funeral Home of Limon, Colo., was in charge of arrangements.
