Lilian Johnston
Lilian Johnston, 87, of Miles City, died Saturday morning, Oct. 16, 2010, at Holy Rosary Extended Care Facility in Miles City.
Mrs. Johnston was born Sept. 26 1923, at Lancaster, England, the daughter of John and Mary Johnson. She attended grade school and graduated from high school in the Yorkshire, England, area and later became a professional baker specializing in pastries.
On July 21, 1945, she and Stanley Johnston were married in Yorkshire. With Mr. Johnston being carrier military serviceman they lived throughout the United States and settled in Wisconsin. Through all their travels, Mrs. Johnston continued her pastry and cooking wherever they were until Mr. Johnston’s health was failing and in 1988 they moved to Miles City to be near family.
Mrs. Johnston truly loved to cook, especially for the holidays and most of all her family.
Her survivors include her daughter, Jean (David) Wheeler of Miles City; one son, Robert Donald Johnston of Menominee, MI; four grandchildren, Felicia, David, Debbie and Chrissy; and two great-grandchildren, Nick and Bryce.
She was preceded in death her husband, Stanley; two sons, Stanley James and Richard John; one grandchild, Wendy Jean; and two sisters, Winnie and Ivy.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Martha Zeilstra
Martha Zeilstra, 94, of Billings, formerly of Miles City, died Thursday evening, Oct. 14, 2010, at Valley Health Care surrounded by her family.
She was born Oct. 1, 1916, in Jamestown, N.D., a daughter of Lawrence and Pauline Konieg Meixner. Her father was killed in an accident in 1920 and her mother married Jacob Schumacher, who lived in the Coalwood area.
She was united in marriage with Frank Zeilstra in 1937 and the couple made their home at Ft. Keogh for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Zeilstra worked for Montgomery Wards and Sears catalog office in Miles City before beginning a career with the Veterans Administration, retiring in 1986 after 17 years of service.
She had received many awards and certificates, one most memorable was The President’s Call to Service for 4, 000 hours of service from George W. Bush and her certificate for 50 Years in the Methodist Church. She was involved with the Drop-In Center, RSVP (Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program) and was a past president of the Range Riders Reps.
Mrs. Zeilstra will be greatly missed by her brother, Howard Schumacher; her daughters, Bernice Charly and Judy (Ron) Cartwright; and her sons, John and Tom (Gina) Zeilstra.
Her survivors also include 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Stachlowski; her sister, Katie Farnum; and her brother-in-law, Abner Farnum.
Cremation has taken place in the Eastern Montana Crematory. Memorial funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 23, in the First United Methodist Church with a gathering following in church basement. Private inurnment will be at a later date to be announced.
Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Willene McLain Shenk
Willene McLain Shenk quietly slipped away during the early morning hours of October 15, 2010, at the age of 90, with her niece Vicki at her side.
Willene, known as “Auntie” to many, was born in Powder River County, MT on March 21, 1920, the third of five children of Charles Raymond and Ora Lee Newton McLain. She grew up with her siblings in Powder River County and graduated from high school in Broadus.
On September 26, 1945 she married the love of her life, Glenn C. Shenk, in El Paso, TX, where Glenn was stationed in the service. Willene and Glenn enjoyed 38 wonderful, fun filled years together until Glenn’s death on April 28, 1983. A great deal of their married life was spent in Miles City, where Willene enjoyed cooking big family dinners, especially for the Bucking Horse Sale and other holidays. She loved decorating her house for Christmas with different themes and colors each year, and for a number of years she and Glenn won first place in the Miles City Christmas Outdoor Lighting contest. Willene was stylish in every sense of the word and wouldn’t have dreamed of leaving the house without looking like a million dollars.
Willene was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, parents Ray and Ora, sister Betty and husband Willis Zeiler, sister Leona and husband Chuck Holbert, brother Clyde and his wife Grace, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Esther and Herbert Hoagland.
Willene is survived by her “girls, ” stepdaughter Sally Shenk Christensen (Andrew J. Christensen) of Georgetown, TX and niece Vicki Willene Dunaway (Michael R. Dawson) of Billings; grandson Kim C. Christensen (Kathy Liscum); and great-grandchildren Colin and Clara Christensen of Manvel, TX. Also surviving are niece Sherry Koltiska of Lander, WY; Sherry’s five children, Tauna Powell (Leslie), Jamie Lyons (Dan), Scott Koltiska (Teresa), Shawn Koltiska (Rhonda) and Brande Koltiska; Sherry’s grandchildren Tyrel, Lacey, Shana, Sierra, Scotti, Kailee, and Kade; Sherry’s great-grandson Kolden; numerous other nieces and nephews by marriage; and cousins Bille McLain and Henry “Bud” McLain.
Many thanks to all the folks at Garden Court at St. John’s Lutheran Ministries for the wonderful care they provided to Willene these past two years, and especially these past three weeks.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, the Alzheimer’s Association Montana Chapter, or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday October 21, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday October 22, 2010 at Cremation and Funeral Gallery with graveside services following the service at Mountview cemetery.
Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery.

Alex "Al" Wambolt
Alex “Al” Wambolt, born May 5, 1922, in Hysham, lived a full and active life until his death on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010.
As a World War II veteran, rancher, farmer, home builder, friend and family man, he touched many lives, especially his wife of 22 years, Marian; his three daughters, Alexa Carson, Susan Baitinger and Deborah Jacobs; and his two sons, Timothy and Jeff.
Mr. Wambolt leaves a legacy of love that has blessed 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Fred; his wife of 35 years and mother of his children, Helen; and seven of his 12 brothers and sisters.
A private memorial service will be held to celebrate his life.
Arrangements have been made through Bring’s Broadway Chapel in Tucson, Ariz.

Montie Ann Yarger Nagel
Montie Ann Yarger Nagel, 66, of Sturgis, S.D., formerly of Shelby and Circle, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at her ranch home east of Sturgis.
She was born Jan 11, 1944, in Miles City, a daughter of Grace Gardner and Dan Yarger. She grew up in Brockway and Circle.
On Aug. 22, 1964, she and Ernie Nagel were married in Glendive. To this union, Niki (Kevin) Junso, Bodil (Jay) Lanius and Shelly (Don) Adair were born.
Mrs. Nagel dearly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
An avid gardener, she was a great cook and loved to watch bull riding. She loved fishing and spending time with the family.
Recently she started a new life with her friend, Bob Penn, on their ranch at Sturgis.
All who loved her will dearly miss her and she will always have a special place in our hearts.
Her survivors include her sister, Bonnie Bergerson of Miles City; her two brothers, Tommy (Laurienna) Yarger of Conrad and Carl John Rice of Kansas; her children; six grandchildren, Matthew Junso, Zachary Morasko, Samantha Frank, Joshua Morasko, Dylan Frank and Cole Junso; one great-granddaughter, Avanlee Ty Junso; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Grace Yarger-Rice; her step-father, Carl Rice; her brother, John Yarger; and grandson, Tyler Junso.
A Funeral Service for her will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with Pastors Bruce and Reba Kolasch officiating.
A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Whitted Funeral Home in Shelby. In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker.

Richard "Rick" Cameron Pedder
Richard “Rick” Cameron Pedder, 60, of Miles City died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, in Miles City.
Mr. Pedder was born in Helena on Sept. 7, 1950. As an infant he was adopted by Colin and Mardell Pedder of Bighorn, where he was raised on the family ranch.
He attended grade school in Custer and Hysham, graduating from Hysham High School in 1969. While in school he was active in sports and 4-H.
Mr. Pedder enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. His roots in agriculture were always a part of his life whether he was working on a ranch, in a feedlot or driving truck hauling cattle or grain.
His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived his sister, Colette (Lloyd) Butcher, his nieces, Jody (Jase) Kinsey and Alexandria Butcher and his great-nephew, Jax Kinsey, all of Miles City; his aunts, Deloras Erickson of Billings and Linda Gorman of Bozeman; his uncle, William Devener of Whitehall; and numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation will begin Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at 8 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.

Marjorie Reaugh Seibert Severson
Marjorie Reaugh Seibert Severson, 98, of Billings passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, at Jensen Cottage on the St. John’s campus. She was born October 3, 1912 at Williston, North Dakota to Jessie Orville (J.O.) and Lucile Reaugh Seibert.
Marge graduated from Williston High School in 1929. She attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks and then the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis graduating in 1935 with a B.S. degree in Primary Education with a minor in Child Welfare.
She taught two years at Ray, North Dakota (where her annual salary was $75.00 the first year and $81.75 the second year) and then, after attending summer school at the University of Montana, she taught primary education for four years at Baker, Montana.
Marge married George S. Severson in Williston, North Dakota on July 1, 1941. They had two sons, Jerry and Robert (Bo).
In 1957 the family moved to Miles City, Montana. Marge and George then moved to Billings in 1972 and also began spending winters boating in Florida and along the Eastern seaboard. Then in 1981 they bought a Condo in Fort Myers, Florida so Marge could have a bathroom on land. Marge and George continued spending their summers in Montana, their winters in Florida and boating, all while traveling throughout the world until George’s death in 1994.
Marge then returned to their home in Billings where she lived until she moved to the retirement home at Mission Ridge in Billings in 1999. She enjoyed the unassisted life style at Mission Ridge for 10 years until, in August 2009, after a fall, she moved to 24/7 assisted care at Jensen Cottage where she lived out her life.
Marge’s parents and her sister, Emmeline Schubert, preceded her in death as did her husband George, who died in 1994.
Marge is survived by her sons Jerry (Holly) Severson of Bozeman, Bo (Karen) Severson of Billings; four grandsons, Scott Severson of Atlanta, GA, Craig (Nikki) Severson of Billings, Mark (Kathy) Severson of Stratham, NH, and Erik Severson of Seattle; granddaughter Jill Severson of Seattle and Erik and Jill’s mother Janet Severson of Spokane; three great grandsons, Bridger, Reagan, Liam and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for a later date. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial donations can be sent to St. John’s Lutheran Home, Jensen Cottage, 2504 Mission Circle, Billings, Montana 59102.
Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Donald George "Don" Munroe
Donald George “Don” Munroe, 71, of Miles City died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
Mr. Munroe was born on July 9, 1939, in Great Falls, the son of D. E. and Isabelle Bruneau Munroe. He grew up and attended schools in Great Falls where he graduated from Great Falls High School in 1957.
Following his schooling, he entered the United States Marines, returning home to Great Falls following his honorable discharge.
Mr. Munroe then attended Montana State College (MSC), which later became Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman, where he graduated with a bachelor’s of industrial engineering degree.
He and Janice Wagner were married on Sept. 16, 1962, in Bozeman. Mr. Munroe returned to the family ranch at Great Falls where he worked until 1978 when he purchased the farm at Angela where he farmed until retiring.
Mr. Munroe loved golfing, hunting, woodworking, fly fishing and snowmobiling. He was active in coaching his children and more importantly, coaching the umps, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.
He would lend a hand to anyone in need. Mr. Munroe was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Town and Country Club, and Grace Bible Church and was active in their 3-in-1 and the home Bible studies.
His survivors include his wife, Janice “Jan” Munroe of Miles City; a son, Doug (Niki) Munroe of Miles City; a daughter, Kristine (Tim) Crews of Miles City; a brother, David (Nona) Munroe of Great Falls; a great-aunt, Doris Rogers of California; a great-uncle, Medric Bruneau of Great Falls; four grandchildren: Dylan and Cooper Munroe and Michael and Christian Crews; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Cooper, in 1966.
A celebration of Mr. Munroe’s life will be Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Bible Church. A private family interment will be in the Eastern Montana State Veteran’s cemetery.

Patrick Hager
Patrick Hager, 61, of Miles City died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
Mr. Hager was born in Glendive on Dec. 22, 1948, the son of Richard and Dorothy Hankins Hager Meissel. At a very young age, he and his parents moved to Miles City where he grew up and attended school at Sacred Heart and Custer County High School.
After school, Mr. Hager began working for Midland and soon after he started working for Doeden Construction. He worked as a carpenter for various construction companies in the Miles City area.
He and Lala Henderson were married in 1966 in Miles City. Mr. Hager began working for Pine Hills State School for several years until he met and married Lynn Marie White in 1978. They made their home in Miles City and over the next years Mr. Hager worked several jobs, which included working at Eastern Montana Industries and Miles City Laundry as well as owning a painting company with his father and brother, Dan. Mr. Hager also spent time on the Rural Fire Department and was a volunteer for the City Fire Department.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved to go camping, hunting, fishing and collecting agates. As a boy, Mr. Hager earned the Order of the Arrow in Boy Scouts, which he was always proud of achieving. He also enjoyed spending time painting and making model airplanes, but he truly enjoyed being able to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; two sons, Kenneth and John Hager, both of Miles City; two daughters, Sherri Gatlin and Jolee Hager, both of Miles City; and in January 2010, Mr. and Mrs. Hager made their granddaughter, Jolie, their forever child by adopting her. Mr. Hager also is survived by his grandchildren, Miley, Kylee, Lauren, Nekayla, Bryce, Jolie and Kayden.
Preceding him in death were Mr. Hager’s parents; two brothers, Dan and David Hager; and one sister, Colette Morast.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
