Dorothy Losinski

Dorothy Losinski, 78, of Miles City died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at her home.
Mrs. Losinski was born on Feb. 3, 1933, in Weeping Water, Neb., the only daughter of Clyde A. and Edna Phillips Little. She attended various grade schools throughout Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma as her father followed construction work all over the Midwest. In 1950 she graduated from Lawrence High School in Kansas and received her teaching degree at Peru, Neb. When she moved to Montana and taught at Purewater School in Garfield County she met her future husband, Lawrence Losinski.
After their marriage on Aug. 14, 1954, they moved to the Losinski Homestead in southeast Garfield County. They bought and ran the Jordan Meat Market from late 1957 through 1958. In 1959 they sold the meat market to Jim Ryan and moved back to the farm.
Mrs. Losinski stayed at the farm with two young daughters to milk cows and feed livestock and haul mail, while Mr. Losinski worked an irrigated farm in Kinsey. However, in 1960 the family gathered at the homestead once again and electricity was finally installed that fall. The couple hauled mail every Monday and Friday for 50 years on the “U-all” route. From 1968 to 1973 they also had a daily mail route between Jordan and Miles City.
Mrs. Losinski quickly learned of the many chores associated with farm life including milking, cows, raising pigs, cows, sheep, bum lambs and chickens. She was an avid gardener from an early age and also canned large quantities of garden produce, meat, and fruit to stock the cellar each year. As the school clerk of two districts, she put her love of mathematics to good use. She also ran payroll and kept books for assorted businesses of her children. During the school and 4-H years of her kids, she provided the “push” to complete projects and assignments.
At 60 years of age she purchased her first computer and continually taught herself to use many programs. Another huge interest was family genealogy, which involved several trips to gather information of both sides of her family and collecting available data from Mr. Losinski’s family. She kept many picture scrapbooks that her whole family loves to browse through and read all her comments and stories.
Her survivors include her husband: Lawrence Losinski of Miles City; her sons: Phillip Losinski of Dickinson, N.D., Mike (Rhonda) Losinski of Cohagen, and Wade (Crystal) Losinski of Kinsey; her daughters: Ann (Bill) Wetherelt of Sidney, Betty (Justin Yates) Lamendola-Yates of Hammond and Ruth (Dave) Hinnaland of Brockway; her grandchildren: Travis, Tyler (Kim) and Kelsey Wetherelt, Elizabeth, Michelle (Mark), Stephanie and Matthew Lamendola, Birch and Bethany Losinski, Cole, Carmen and Courtney Hinnaland, Micheal, Tara and Nicholas Losinski, and Isabel and Cathleen Losinski; and three great-grandchildren: Ayden, Zeke and Tag.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Vernon Little.
Memorial services will be Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Franklin Morris Wolfe

Franklin Morris Wolfe passed on to what he had called his “next new adventure” on August 13, 2011, from complications of a stroke. He was 89.
Frank was born on July 6, 1922, to Franklin and Stella Wolfe and was raised in Miles City, Montana. Upon completion of high school he traveled the western US and Alaska, learning and working at many interesting jobs.
He joined the Navy in WWII and served as a combat corpsman aboard the carrier USS Monterey in the Pacific. After the war he attended medical school in Portland, Oregon, where he met and married his wife Eva. They were married 52 years and raised two boys. After receiving a degree in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Wolfe reentered the Navy as a medical officer, serving at many locations in the US and the Pacific.
Dr. Wolfe retired from the Navy and moved to Santa Rosa in the mid 1960’s, where he operated a private practice on Sonoma Avenue until the late 1970’s. Dr. Wolfe then spent several years in Saudi Arabia as a medical administrator. After returning to Santa Rosa, he worked with various clinics in Sonoma and Napa Counties.
In addition to being a physician, surgeon and sailor, Dr. Wolfe was a journeyman welder and ship fitter, certified diesel mechanic, cabinet maker, licensed private pilot and professional lecturer. Dr. Wolfe authored several books on subjects ranging from women’s health, to his hitchiking travels and war time service as a young man, to a short history and “how to” of home brewing and distilling.
Frank and Eva enjoyed square dancing with the Circles and Squares club, traveling abroad and touring the US in his converted Greyhound bus motor home.
Dr. Wolfe was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; stepson Darold Westbrook; sisters Virginia Vittoz and Rita Smith.
He is survived by his son Michael and daughter-in-law Kim of Eagle, Colorado, son Donald and grandchildren Heather and Joel of Santa Rosa. He is also survived by nephew Marc Vittoz and family of Paris, and nephews and nieces of the Smith Family of Dallas, Texas.
Once reading the blood type stamped on Dr. Wolfe’s USN dog tags, his grandson noted that “Pappy’s” philosophy and lifelong attitude had been literally in his blood … B-POSITIVE. The ashes of Commander Franklin M. Wolfe M.D. will be given to the sea and reunited with his beloved Eva in a private family ceremony on Valentine’s Day 2012.
