DUSTIN R. BLACK
LAUREL – Dustin Robert Black, 27, of Laurel, formerly of Belfry, went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, October 9, 2004 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.
Dustin was born on September 19, 1977 in Powell, Wyo., a son of Randy and Cindy Black. He was raised in Belfry and attended Red Lodge schools, graduating from Red Lodge High School in 1997. Dustin received all-conference and all-state honors as a running back and linebacker, was active in band and in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and after completing EMT training as a senior served with the Red Lodge Ambulance Service.
Dustin graduated with honors from the Prince Georges County, Maryland Police Academy, and served as a police officer in Taneytown, Maryland for two years. He enjoyed working in the K-9 unit with his faithful partner, Boris. Dustin returned to Montana where he has served as an officer with the Laurel Police Department for the past three years.
Dustin was an avid Denver Broncos and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a dedicated law enforcement officer who loved his work, and was particularly enthusiastic about teaching child safety seat clinics.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Black, and his daughter and son, Makayla and Connor Black, all of Laurel; his parents, Randy and Cindy Black of Belfry; two sisters, Jolene (John) Collins of Red Lodge and Naomi (Raymond) Sibbett of Belfry; one brother, Tom (Heidi) Black of Bridger; grandparents, Earl and Louise Black of Belfry, Robert Borgialli of Buffalo, Wyo., and June and Dave Gorsuch of Rapid City, SD; great-grandparents, Loreen Schwarze and Ruth and John C. Borgialli, all of Newcastle, Wyo.; five nieces, Ashley, Lindsay, Kourtney, Alexis and Della; two nephews, Johnny and Hunter; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 13 at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center in Red Lodge. Interment was in the Belfry Cemetery. Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials to benefit his children may be given to the Dustin Black Memorial Fund, c/o Avanta Federal Credit Union, Box 1188, Red Lodge MT 59068.

EDWARD ALLEN ARNOLD
Our remarkable husband, father, brother and friend passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 to be with his Lord. Ed was born on April 20, 1930, at the family home on the West Rosebud River, Fishtail.
Ed was one of ten children born to William C. and Margaret (Haugan) Arnold. he attended grade school at the country Green School House on Fishtail Creek and graduated from the Cobblestone Absarokee High School in 1948.
Ed developed a particular fondness for the land, animals, all living things and everything that grows. From this bloomed his curiosity for the science of life and the world around him. His thirst for knowledge was matched by his desire to share and teach those around him. After attending Concordia Lutheran College for two years, he received a grant for summer graduate school in science from Brigham Young University. He then graduated from eastern Montana College (MSU Billings) in 1953, where he was an art student of Isabelle Johnson.
Ed’s career in teaching sciences and mathematics began in Livingston and Roundup. He then moved to the Tri-Cities in Washington state and worked for the U.S. Government as a chemist at the U.S. Atomic energy Commission.
He met and married his wife Clorinda (Clorie) Rodriquez in Richland, Wash., in 1967. After their marriage they moved to Seattle area where their daughter, Michelle, was born. He resumed his career of teaching sciences and mathematics for 30 years at the Lynnwood High School.
Upon retirement, the Arnold family moved to Billings in 1997 to be close to his brothers and sisters. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed traveling, visiting his daughter in Scotland and Spain. His hobbies were vast, including painting beautiful oil paintings, listening to classical music, wood carving, maintaining and growing glorious flower gardens and fishing, especially with his friends and brother, Bill.
He also enjoyed the art of wine making with his brother-in-law, Jack Fawcett, and playing bridge on Tuesdays with his sister, Clarice and friends. He loved walking up the hills and prairies around Fishtail and Absarokee, where he grew up.
Ed was a Grand knight of the Council at St. Thomas at the Apostle Church and third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Clorie Arnold, daughter, Michelle Arnold-McMahon and son-in-law Michael McMahon of Billings; sisters, Clarice (Jack) Fawett, Billings; Ruth (Bucky) Mendenhall, Columbus; and brothers, Bill (Sadye) of Billings, Bern (Vonnie) of Absarokee, Art (Mary) and George (June), both of Fishtail.
Ed knew the time we spent together was more valuable than things and he knew that love and memories will live on in our hearts long after we are gone. He left us all with the seed of love he sowed in all of our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Violet and helen and one brother Eugene.
Vigil services were held on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004 and funeral mass was held on Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rites of Committal followed in Calvary Cemetery.

KATE C. BARETTA
Kate C. Baretta, 95, of Red Lodge, died peacefully on Tuesday October 19, 2004. Born Kate Enrico, on January 14, 1909 in Red Lodge, she was the daughter of Isidoro and Carolina (Perello) Enrico.
Kate was raised in Red Lodge. She worked in her father’s store (Enrico Confectionery) from 1921-1932, as a city clerk and bookkeeper for the city of Red Lodge from 1957-1961, anda as a teller and bookkeeper for the Montana Bank from 1961-1974.
Kate was a long time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Altar Society, Italian Girls Victory Club and the Senior Citizens. She was active in the Festival of Nations for 51 years. Her hobbies included baking cooking, crafts, dancing and card playing.
Kate is survived by her daughter-in-law, Melanee Baretta; two grandchildren, Mark (Susan Harding) Baretta and Steven (Rita) Baretta, and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Frank Baretta. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hiram, her son, Edward, two sisters, Dorothy Rockley and Margaret Smith, and two infant brothers.
Funeral Mass for Kate was held Friday, October 22, 2004 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with interment at the Red Lodge Cemetery. Kate will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

SADIE MAE KEYS
Sadie Mae Keys, 99 years, 11 months, and four days old, of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away October 16, 2004. Mrs. Keys was born in Sand Coulee, Mont. on November 12, 1904 to the late Alfred Puutio and Sophia Lailan Puutio.
She was a resident of many states during her lifetime and retired with 28 years of service from Wyatt Cafeterias in Dallas, Texas in December, 1984.
Survivors include niece Arnita Hall of Sumter, S.C.; cousin, Aune Harris of Missoula, Mont.; and little sis, Aili Domitrovich of Missoula, Mont.
Sadie’s friends, Dick and Gerry Donaldson wish to thank all the caregivers who helped care for Sadie in her final days.
Interment will be in Red Lodge, Mont.

PAT BLOOM
Patricia “Pat” Bloom, formerly of Red Lodge, passed away Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004 at Valley Health Care Center in Billings.
Pat was born March 17, 1916 in Red Lodge, the daughter of William and Mary Jones. At the age of 7, her family moved to Detroit, Mich. Pat moved back to Red Lodge to reside with her sister, “Babe” Lantz, and graduated from Carbon County High School in 1934. On Oct. 20, 1936 she and Walter Bloom were married in Red Lodge.
Pat worked alongside Walter in Bloom and Co. until 1966 when the store was closed due to Walter’s ill health. Pat then went to work for the Carbon County News until her retirement.
Pat was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and loved to bowl, becoming a member of the Red Lodge Ladies Bowling League. She always enjoyed socializing with family and friends, and especially looked forward to celebrating her birthday on St. Patty’s Day.
After the death of Walter on Feb. 5, 1981, Pat moved to Billings to be closer to her family. She became a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital, putting in many dedicated hours. Due to failing health, she moved to Valley Health Care Center in 1999.
Pat is survived by her sister, Shirley Heffner of Billings; a son, Bill Bloom and his wife, Kris, of Worden; a daughter, Shirley Hammeral of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jeff (Kori) Bloom and Joe (Sherry) Bloom, all of Worden, Linda (Tim) Morgan of Billings, John Yzaguirre, Tom Yzaguirre and Sara Clemens, all of Nashville; five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Leola Kerrigan and “Babe” Lantz.
Services were held at St. Agnes Catholic Church Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 with a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Arrangements were made by Smith Downtown Chapel of Billings and Olcott Chapel in Red Lodge.
Memorials may be made to Valley Healthcare Center, Billings Catholic Schools, or the Carbon County Historical Society in Red Lodge.
Pat’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Valley Healthcare for being an extended family to Pat, and for all the care and love they showed her.

MARY ANN FORMANACK
Mary Ann Formanack, 71, of Billings, went to be with God and her beloved husband on October 17, 2004.
Mary Ann entered this life on July 28, 1933 in Baggs, Wyo., the daughter of Rhonald Iverson and Marian Hays Iverson. Her youth was spent happily in Hardin, Mont. She graduated from Hardin High School in 1951. On January 6, 1956, she married the love of her life, Robert W. Formanack. They passed the early years of their marriage on their farm near Lodge Grass, Mont. These were happy years for Mary Ann and her young family. In 1966, Mary Ann and Bob moved their family to Red Lodge, Mont., where they lived for 34 years. Most recently, Mary Ann divided her time between her home in Billings and Green Valley, Ariz.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Formanack, her mother, Marian Hays Iverson, her father, Rhonald Iverson, and her brother, Dean Iverson. She is survived by her 3 children, Greg (Beth) Formanack of Kona, HI, Dana (Ron) Kuehn of Independence, Minn. , and Lisa Randall of Spokane, Wash. She loved and cherished her grand children, Josh Kuehn, Laura Kuehn, Jaybee Deleon, and Jason Formanack. She is also survived by her favorite niece, Mary Murphrey of Laurel.
Mary Ann lived life to its fullest. She and Bob traveled to nearly every continent in the world. They were interested in learning about the history and cultures of the world. Mary Ann and Bob enjoyed classical and jazz music, attending concerts whenever possible. Mary Ann particularly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge and was extremely fond of her birthday clubs and church groups.
Mary Ann was a member of the Mayflower Church in Billings and the Good Shepherd UCC Church in Green Valley, Ariz.
Memorials can be sent to the Mary Ann Formanack Memorial Fund, c/o the Good Shepherd Church, 17750 S. La Canada Rd, Sahuarita, AZ 85629.
Memorial services were held Oct. 22, 2004 at Mayflower Congregational Church. Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
