Kathryn Emmert
Kathryn "Katie" Z. Emmert, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April. 5, 2003.
She was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Opheim, to William and Zilla (Brown) Keefe.
In 1924, the family moved to Whitefish and then to Kalispell where she and her brothers, Bill and Jean, and sister, Celia grew up and attended school together. They were all graduates of Flathead High School and she, for the past several years, was active in organizing and planning high school reunions for the many friends from the Keefe's era.
She married Mike Emmert on Jan. 16, 1943, in Missoula. They lived in Kalispell and Ronan before moving to Great Falls in 1960. In 1976, she retired from her job as office manager at Judge Moving and Storage, and she and Mike settled on the family farm north of Kalispell.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor and her devotion to her family and friends. She believed in making the best of every day.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister; a son, William Michael in 1967; husband, Mikee in 1993, and a granddaughter, Michelle in 2002.
She is survived by her four daughters, Kathy Hedeen and finance Todd Smith of Kalispell, Kay Emmert of Ronan, Sharon Emmert of California, and Celia Emmert of Great Falls. She will also be missed by her lifelong friends, Mike's cousins, Merlyn Taborsky of Kalispell, and Dora Olson of Ronan; her school chum, Beaulah "Kidney" Clothier of Kalispell; special friends, Avis Hoyt of Bigfork, Doris Roberts of Kalispell, and Eddie Puzon of Great Falls; Jim Weinhandl of Great Galls, and John Hedeen of Idaho, who both had a special place in her heart; five grandchildren, Danielle Hedeen of Kalispell, Chase Weinhandl and Jamie Olson of Ronan, Katie and Neil Daly of California and great-grandsons, Dylan Haskell and Madison Godwin, both of California, as well as several nieces and nephews, including her special favorite, Penny Kesti of Washington.
Her faith in being strong and overcoming obstacles will be instilled in us forever. She will always be our "blue sky and sunshine." We thank her for holding us together and letting us know home was always where "Ma" was.
Funeral services were held April 9, 2003, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Ron Pierce officiating.
The family suggests memorials, in Katie's name, to the American Heart Association, 510 First Avenue North 114, Great Falls, Mont., 59401.
Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.

Helen M. Kettleson Helm
Helen M. Kettleson Helm, 87, of Village Manor Nursing Home in Lincoln, Neb., died March 23, 2003.
Ms. Helm was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Whitefish, the daughter of Robert and Nina Blanche (Graham) McCauley. Helen worked in the business office of the Great Northern Railway in Whitefish where she met and married Vernon A. Kettleson in 1941. They had a son, Robert Vernon Kettleson, born May 16, 1947.
Ms. Helm was preceded in death by her parents, brother and son. Her husband, Vernon, passed away in September 1973. She later married Emmett V. "Hap" Helm in 1976. He died in 1984. Helen was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Whitefish.
Ms. Helm is remembered for her friendliness, cooking ability and love of reading. She is survived by daughter-in-law Beverley Kettleson of Lincoln, Neb., grandson Travis W. Kettleson of Spokane, nephew Dr. W Richard Dukelow, and his wife Lynn, of Somers, and a number of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Nebraska.Ms. Helm's cremains will be interred in Glacier Memorial Gardens in Kalispell, with her first husband and son at a later date. Those wishing to be notified of the exact date, time and location should contact Dr. Dukelow at 406-587-2157.

Dora Eva (Wider) Buentemeier
Dora Eva (Wider) Buentemeier, 85, passed away on her birthday, March 22, 2003, at the Colonial Manor in Whitefish.
Dora was born in Nortonville, N.D., on March 22, 1918, to Joseph and Verna Wider. She was the fifth of seven children. Her father was a teamster in the logging industry. The family moved to Wirt, Minn., about the time she started school.
Dora married George Buentemeier Aug. 1, 1934, when she was 16 years old. They bought and farmed a 40-acre farm until 1944, when Mr. Dunham wanted George to move to Columbia Falls to work for him at Plum Creek. George worked for Plum Creek Lumber until his retirement in 1972.
In Minnesota, Dora cooked for logging crews and they started their family. The couple raised two sons, Ronald, who is general manager for F.H. Stoltze Land and Lumber in Columbia Falls, and Michael, who is a store director for Fred Meyers in Vancouver, Wash.
While George was working, Dora completed her high school education while her children were in school. Dora was a cook for the school lunch program and from 1970 to 1992 she was a cook at North Valley Hospital in Whitefish. Dora was a very active and outgoing lady, who loved visiting and especially loved little children.
She had many interests, sewing, upholstering, crocheting and knitting, crafts, doll making, gardening, fishing, playing cards, dancing and listening to fiddlers.
She and George had a place on Ashley Lake and for many years were up there fishing, building and lazing around. The last year she was able to be at the lake was 1999. She also lived at Prestige Living during that year.
She was a founding member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Columbia Falls, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and fulfilled leadership roles in the women's groups. Dora had volunteered for Meals On Wheels and at the Senior Citizens' Center. In 1970, she was one of the chaperones on the Columbia Falls High School band trip to Germany, where son, Michael, played the sax.
Dora is survived by her son, Ronald and wife, Barbara, of Columbia Falls; son, Michael and wife, Lori, of Vancouver, Wash.; grandson, Chris and granddaughter, Breanne; a sister, Verna Hulbert; and brother, Austin and wife, Betty, of Moses Lake, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Rose Uran of Northome, Minn.; also numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends made over the years.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Columbia Falls with Pastor Tom Gopp officiating. Burial will follow at Glacier Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kalispell.
Arrangements are under the direction of Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls.

Gloria Miller
Gloria Pope Miller, 59, formerly of Miles City, died March 17, 2003, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born in Terry on June 8, 1943, to Clarence W. and Esther (Wade) Pope.
A technician in the gaming industry at time of death, she worked in various restaurants in Miles City, Billings, Helena, Whitefish and California throughout her life. She was a hard working, determined lady, which was evident by her short, but courageous battle against cancer.
She is survived by her companion, James Phillips; her daughters, Ronda Reed and her husband, Russ, and children, Nicole and Billy Branham of Las Vegas, Nev.; Brenda Harper and her husband, Vince, and children, and Kyle and Brianna of La Mirada, Calif.; sons, Keith Miller and his wife, Trish, and children, Madison and MacKenzie of Miles City; Donald Rose and his wife, Andrea of Clarksville, Tenn., and Kevin Miller and his daughter, Brooke of Billings; sisters, Barbara Armstrong and her husband, Butch of Whitefish, and Wilma Beckman and her husband, Bob of Bozeman; four nieces and one nephew.

Gennette P. "Nettie" Wilson
Gennette P. "Nettie" Wilson, 87, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Colonial Manor in Whitefish.
Nettie was born on June 9, 1915, in Austin, Manitoba, to Ruben and Edith Hotel Biggar. She moved to Whitefish where she graduated from Whitefish High School at the age of 15.
During World War II, she was a welder and foreman in the sheet metal department at the Seattle shipyards. Nettie had a variety of jobs, including bookkeeper at Manions, owning and operating a grocery store in Hot Springs, manager of the City of Whitefish water department for many years, then she retired. Bored with retirement, she became the bookkeeper and CAN at Colonial Manor, retiring for the second time in her 70s.
Her passion was reading. When her eyesight failed, she enjoyed talking books from the low-vision library in Helena. She loved to take her poodle and cat in her pickup and camper and explore the back roads and historic sites of Montana. Her dream came true when she got to travel to Hong Kong and Singapore.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Edith Biggar; sisters, Margaret Biggar and Enid Gilbert; brothers, Richard, Philip and Hugh Biggar.
She is survived by sisters, Clara Knauss and Sheila Calhoun, and her husband, Bruce, all of Whitefish; sisters-in-law, Gwen Biggar of Kalispell, and Vera Biggar of Eureka; nieces and nephews, Dennis, Jacqueline, Billy, Sandra, Peggy, Don, Myrtis, Dewey, Joe, Dawn, Dana, Joanie and Annette.
Private family services will be held later this spring.
Memorials are requested for the Whitefish Public Library.
Buffalo Hill Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Arthur David
Arthur Joseph David, 86, of Bigfork, formerly of Bismarck, N. D., died April 12, 2003, at the North Valley Hospital in Whitefish.
He was born Jan. 26, 1917, in Dickinson, N.D., to Henry and Lena (Burke) David. He grew up on a farm 10 miles east of Dickinson, N. D. He attended and graduated from Versippi School in the rural Dickinson area.
He married Nell Barbion on June 23, 1939, at Aberdeen, S.D. They lived in Jamestown, N.D., where he worked doing road construction. Later, he and his brother-in-law owned and operated David and Rix Construction in Bismarck, N.D. In 1970, they moved to Columbia Falls and operated the Mountain Shadows Motel. Later, he retired and moved to Kalispell. His wife, Nell, of 57 years passed away in March of 1996. He then moved back to Bigfork. In March of 2003 he entered the Colonial Manor in Whitefish.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell; his parents; two brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by a sister, Katheryn Rix of Bismarck, N.D.; a special niece, Jo Hallock of Jamestown, N.D.; special nephews, Dwight and Evelyn Faiman of Dickinson, N.D., Ronnie and Rosemary David of Hazen, N.D., and Melvey "Punk" and wife, Margaret Barbion of Bigfork; a brother-in-law, Prosper Barbion of Oregon and many more nephews.
A memorial service was held April 23, 2003, at the Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Urn burial was at Glacier Memorial Gardens where he was laid to rest with his loving wife and faithful dog, Lawless.
Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.

Dorothy Lyngard
Dorothy Alice Lyngard, 77, died April 20, 2003, at her home in Enumclaw, Wash.
She was born on Jan. 11, 1926, in Eastern Montana, to Lloyd and Audrey Hale. She graduated from Culbertson High School, and married her high school sweetheart, Daryl Lyngard on Oct. 16, 1945. The couple made their home in Kalispell, and together raised three daughters. When she retired from the Kalispell City Library, she loved traveling south with Daryl in their RV in the winter, and entertaining family and friends at their cabin home on Echo Lake in the summer. In 1999, they decided to escape Montana winters, and moved to Enumclaw, Wash., where their youngest daughter and family live.
She was an example of kindness, family devotion, strong morals, and inner strength to her family. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Daryl Lyngard.
She is survived by her three daughters, Diane McLaughlin of Kalispell, Jan Weidner of Bozeman, and Joanne Young of Enumclaw, Wash; her best friend and sister, Leone Larsen of Aurora, Colo.; her sons-in-law, Scott Weidner and Roger Young; eight grandchildren, Bryan McLaughlin, Jennifer Friar, Elizabeth Rambo, Kim Mitchell, Chad McManus, Allison Gray, Mindy Lobdell and Dusty Lobdell; 10 great-grandchildren, Gabrielle McLaughlin, Breanna and Zayne Friar, Donovan and Madison Mitchell, Colton and Christian McManus, Jeremiah and Hannah Gray, and Alex Weidner; many nieces and nephews, and her many friends in Montana and Washington.
A graveside memorial will be held Saturday, May 3, at 2 p.m., at the C. E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
