THOMAS BENNETT
RONAN -- Thomas J. Bennett, 59, died on Feb. 9, 2005, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility here after an extended illness.Tom was born in Butte on Dec. 31, 1945, to Paul J. and Catherine Bennett.Memorial services were Feb. 22 at the Mission Mountain Enterprises Work Center in Ronan. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte at a later date.

CAMILLE BISSON
POLSON -- Camille D.D. Bisson, 67, died on Feb. 6, 2005, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula of natural causes. Dick was born on Jan. 17, 1938, at Mountain View to Camille and Mary Bisson. He attended school at the Ursuline Catholic School in St. Ignatius, then finished at Polson Public School. Dick married Norma Stewart on Jan. 27, 1973. Their lives resolved around working and playing in the outdoors. From 1991 to 1995, the couple owned and operated the Elmo Bay Grocery in Elmo. Dick is survived by his wife of 32 years, Norma (Polson); sons John (Tammy) Stewart (Browning) and Daniel Wheeler (Minot, ND); daughter Dawn (Chris) Ott and their child, due in September (Billings); step-daughter Tana (Ron) Erickson (Pablo); grandson Lonnie (LeeAnn) Erickson (Polson); granddaughter Velnetta Erickson (Pablo); three great-grandchildren; a brother, Rayfield (Polson); sisters Alice (Leroy) Schoonover (NV), Juanita Marquartd (Pablo), and Mary Ann Cavazos (Grandview, WA); and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ronan with burial following at Mountain View Cemetery on Feb. 9.

ANDREW 'ANDY' CANNON
POLSON -- Andy Cannon died of cancer on Feb. 19, 2005, in Missoula. As a young man, Andy spent time on a ranch in Texas and developed a love for hunting, fishing and tinkering on guns. Andy's love of the outdoors evolved into a career with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Most recently, Andy had a distinguished career as a detective for the Lake County Sheriff's Department. Andrew was preceded in death by his mother Mabel, father Andrew Sr., and brother Hugh. He is survived by his wife Marty; daughters Kathy Hobza (Billings), Bonny Moore (Red Lodge) and Jennifer Cannon (Kalispell); three grandchildren Nicholas Maanum, and Austin and Abby Hobza; as well as sons-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, mother-in law and nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Feb. 26 in Polson following cremation.

AUGUST CHRISTENSEN
BIG TIMBER -- Funeral services for former Ronan resident August R. Christensen were held on Feb. 12 at the Pablo Christian Church. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery. Christensen, 66, died on Feb. 6, 2005, in Big Timber of natural causes.

ROB COOKINGHAM
POLSON -- Rob Cookingham, 47, died on Feb. 2, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital here. Rob was born on May 26, 1957, in Oregon City, OR, to Warren and LaRona "Bobbie" (Powell) Cookingham. He grew up and attended schools in Polson and Oregon City, OR. He joined the U.S. Marines at the age of 17. He served in the Marines as a radio operator. After his military service he attended Clackamas Community College in Oregon City and studied telecommunications. He worked for Gerber Legendary Blades for 9 1/2 years and met his wife Pam while working there. Rob moved to Polson in 1987 and started working at the Dupuis Lumber Mill. He worked as an electrical apprentice and eventually started his schooling in Great Falls to become an electrician. He received his journeyman's license and joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was currently working with the union and worked in several locations in western Montana. Rob was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2986 and a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties and IBEW. He loved riding horses and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father Warren Cookingham and stepfather Mitchell James. He is survived by his wife, Pam Stotts, his daughter Robyn Cookingham, a grandson; his mother, LaRona "Bobbie" McLeod'; four brothers, Mitchell and Thurston James and Justin and Jason Pulse (all of Polson); two sisters, Rhonda Lewis and Tamie Pulse (both of Polson); and several other relatives. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Feb. 7 in Polson. Military rites and inurnment followed at Lakeview Cemetery, Polson.

CHARLES GIBBS SR.
POLSON -- Charles E. Gibbs Sr., 81, died on Feb. 13, 2005, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center here after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his former wives, Eunice and Catherine; parents; son Charles E. Gibbs Jr.; and stepdaughter, Sharren Graham. He is survived by his wife, Irma Gibbs (Polson); daughter-in-law, Cristy Gibbs and stepsons Lawrence Graham and Terry Graham (all of Polson); stepdaughter, Sandra L. (Bud) O'Connor (Lyons, CO); 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

CHRISTINE JOHNSON
POLSON -- Christine Oie Johnson, 80, died at her home here on Feb. 14, 2005. She was born on Dec. 22, 1924, in Polson, to Margaret and Ole Oie. In 1947, she married Eugene Johnson, and they owned and operated the Shoreline Court in Polson for many years. Gene died on Feb. 20, 1959. Christine was also preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Slack and Thelma Fite; and brothers John, George, Thurston, Jerry and Leo. She is survived by her children, Christie Babb and husband, David (Olympia, WA), and Randy Johnson and wife, Marcia (Kalispell); a granddaughter; a grandson; sisters Carrie Anderson (Columbia Falls) and Virginia Peek (Polson); her brother, Robert Oie (Polson); and many nieces and nephews. At her request, no services will be held. The family suggests memorials to the Lake County Home Health and Hospice, 711 Main St. SW, Ronan, MT 59864. Private family inurnment took place at Lakeview Cemetery.

GENEVIEVE LOW
CHARLO -- Genevieve Gallagher Low died on Feb. 1, 2005. She was born on Sept. 28, 1940, in Charlo, to Frank and Mabel Gallagher. She was reared and schooled in Charlo through grade 12. She was raised on the family farm, the 11th of 13 children, and attended the Catholic Church and catechism in the D'Aste area. After high school graduation, Genie (as she was known) worked in Idaho in child care and as a clerk in the Sterling's dry goods department in Ronan, and clerking jobs in Polson and in Great Falls. She then moved to Washington, where she married Merle Hogsett. They lived in several areas in Washington, buying, remodeling and selling houses. The marriage ended in divorce. Genie enjoyed decorating, sewing and animals. She owned the Farmers Bar in Endicott, WA, and also worked in elder care. She later married Ray Low, who preceded her in death. Genie continued to do elder care until she became ill. Following surgery in May she moved to Missoula and later resided at Hillside Manor Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Ann; a nephew/godson; a niece; and stepson Gary Hogsett. She is survived by siblings Mabel (Edward) Felton, Seumas, Fran (Harry) Keith, John (Carol), Pat (Ken) Ague, Colleen, Rita, Ed, Ethel, George and Dan; two stepchildren, Terry and Barbara Hogsett; and 66 nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Charlo or to the donor's choice. Funeral services were conducted on Feb. 5 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Charlo. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in Ronan.

CAMILLA McCORMICK
POLSON -- Camilla Josephine Fox McCormick, 84, died here on Feb. 7, 2005. Born on Nov. 22, 1920, in Missoula, Camilla was the youngest daughter of Edna Fox McCormick Phillips and Washington Jay McCormick. Camilla attended Catholic school in Missoula and after graduating from Hellgate High School, she attended William and Mary College. She returned to the Univ. of Montana to obtain her master's degree in early childhood psychology and worked on her doctorate. She married John Thomas Vance and for 21 years they enjoyed a full life. Camilla was a founding member of the League of Women Voters in Montana, an early student and supporter at the Archie Bray Foundation, president of the Helena Symphony Board for eight years, a founding member of the first women's investment group in Montana, and long-time early childhood educator in New York, Washington, D.C., and Montana. She was involved in numerous civic and charitable activities, including the Retired Senior Companion program and the Missoula Hospice program. In her retirement she tutored special-needs students in the Missoula County Public Schools and assisted with the debate team program in Polson, and volunteered with the Montana State Fiddlers. Her last years were spent in Polson, where she was treated to music, stories, baseball games, great food, tender loving care, surrounded by cherished friends and family, and lively political discussions. Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Margaret B. Vance (Missoula), Katherine McC. Vance and Bruce Sewell (Coweta, OK), Angela F. Vance and Paul Pendery (Polson), Mary Camilla D. Vance and Jeff Strange (Portland, OR); former husband John T. Vance (Missoula and Washington D.C.); eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter; her sister's family, George F. Weisel Sr., niece Thula V. Weisel, nephew George F. Weisel; and many extended family, friends and admirers. Graveside services were held at the Missoula City Cemetery on Aug. 3, 2005. The family asks that the life of Camilla be remembered in contributions to the Sussex School Scholarship Fund, Missoula; The Archie Bray Foundation, Helena; or the Missoula or Polson Hospice.

CATHERINE MADPLUME
RONAN -- Catherine Madplume, 20, died on Feb. 3, 2005, as a result of a homicide. She was born on Jan. 11, 1985, to Wilbur and Carolyn (Malatare) Madplume in Kalispell. Catherine loved to play basketball, hanging out with her cousins, and her friends and family. She loved going to powwows, playing stickgame. In her spare time she enjoyed beading, sewing, listening to music, and writing poetry. She attended schools in Browning, Heart Butte, and Ronan, and her greatest dream was to graduate. She would have graduated this year in May with the class of 2005 from Two Eagle River School. Throughout her school years she was an honor roll student. She was preceded in death by her father; brothers Albert and Edward Madplume; grandparents Fred Madplume, Catherine Old Rock, Tom and Louise (Andrew) Malatare; an auntie, Violet Madplume; and an uncle, Thomas Malatare. She was survived by her mother, Carolyn, and stepfather Harold Calf Robe (Spotted Eagle); brothers Brian, Dean, and Fredrick Madplume, and Harold Calf Robe Jr.; sisters Violet Madplume, Shelly and Starla Calf Robe; aunties Wilma Aimsback, Rose Villa, Diane Andrew, and Harriet Malatare; uncles Pierre, Paul, Douglas and Louie Malatare, and Barney Finley; grandparents Susan Dowdall, Mary (Pooyah) Lefthand, Frank Andrew, Fred and Beatrice Marceau, Melvin and Robert Madplume; great-grandmother Louise Finley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and all of her friends. A wake began on Feb. 5 at the family home Ronan and continued in the Marvin Camel Building. Mass was celebrated on Feb. 7 in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Burial followed in the Jocko Cemetery.

ALEXANDER MORIGEAU
ST. IGNATIUS -- Sam Morigeau, 57, died at home on Jan. 30, 2005. Born April 12, 1947, in St. Ignatius, to Walter and Helen Morigeau, he attended high school in Arlee. After graduation, he served from 1965 to 1969 with the U.S. Navy. During his enlistment, he worked as an engineer for subtenders on submarines. In 1969, Sam married Edith R. Matt in Charleston, SC, while stationed with the Navy. They returned to Montana, where he attended Northern Montana College and later Montana State University, graduating with a degree in civil engineering. After graduation, he worked as a production engineer for Proctor and Gamble in Green Bay, WI. Eventually, he returned to Montana and to the U.S. Forest Service. His Forest Service career of 23 years included two tours of duty in the Washington office with the USDA and a congressional assignment on the Hill in Washington, D.C., including stops in Oregon, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and once again, Montana. In addition to the USDA, he worked for the Salish and Kootenai Tribes as a department head for the Natural Resources Dept. He loved the outdoors -- running, hunting, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, and scuba diving with his wife in many warm and exotic places. In 2004, he proudly earned his PADI Master Dive Instructor License and enjoyed sharing his love of diving with others. Survivors include his wife, Edith Morigeau, sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart Morigeau and Eden Shullenberger (Lafayette, CO), and Ryan Morigeau and Kirsten Sayson (Seattle, WA); sisters and brothers-in-law, Moria and Mike Robinson (Cortez, CO), Grace and Mac Hamilton (Reno, NV), Yvonne Jean Ciraulo (San Jose, CA), and Barbara Sand Robert Schliep Ronan); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Natalie Rassmussen, and brother Walter H. Morigeau. A wake was conducted at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Mass was celebrated in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment was in the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery where military honors were presented.

AMOS Z. MOSS
Amos Z. Moss, 84, of St. Helens, OR, died at St. Helens Care Center on Feb. 26, 2005. Amos was born on Aug. 22, 1920, in Polson to Phillip and Ida (Nelson) Moss. He graduated from Polson High School in 1938. Amos served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1946, in the 82nd Airborne and was in D-Day at Normandy and Holland. He received a purple heart. He moved to St. Helens in 1946. He married Phyllis on Jan. 18, 1947, at the St. Helens First United Methodist Church. He worked at the Boise Paper Mill as a rewinder for 30-plus years and retired in 1984. He was a member of the Methodist Church, American Rifleman, N.R.A. and American Legion. He was a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his family. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Moss (St. Helens); children Phillip Moss (Las Vegas, NV), Joe Moss (Portland, OR), Cindy Stansbury (St. Helens), and April Johnson (Gulfport, MS); sister Vi Burton (Ronan) and seven grandchildren. A memorial service was held on March 3 in St. Helens. Private interment took place at Lakeview Cemetery, Polson.
