DAN O'BANNAN
PABLO -- Dan O'Bannan, 73, Pablo, died of natural causes on Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan. He was born July 14, 1928, to Fred M. O'Bannan and Hazel Smith in Sundance, WY. Dan worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 32 years. After retiring, he drove a grain truck, was a distributor for Olympic Foods and worked at Jore Corp. in Ronan. At age 71 he got his GED, of which he was very proud. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his son, Dan Jr., and his wife, LoRae; his son, Lonnie; his daughter, Sharon, and her husband Terry Smith; brothers and their spouses, Fred and Lucille O'Bannan (Rialto, CA), and Clarence (Liz) O'Bannan (Newport, WA); his sister Audrey and her husband, Chuck Sworder; seven grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, John. A memorial service was held on Feb. 7 in Missoula.

WILLIAM 'BUD' ORR
SPOKANE -- William Harrison "Bud" Orr Jr., 84, died on March 26, 2002, at his home here. He was born July 7, 1917, to Caroline (Felsman) and William H. Orr Sr., in St. Ignatius, and was enrolled in the Salish-Kootenai Tribes.

On Nov. 16, 1953, he married June Hamel in Missoula. He operated heavy equipment on numerous road construction jobs throughout Idaho and Wash. before taking retirement in 1976.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years and his children and their spouses: Patricia and Herman Miller (Pablo), Janet Enos (Lincoln, CA), William Kehoe (Ronan), Debra and Toby Salazar (Commerce City, CO), Wanda Orr (Coeur d'Alene); a brother, Richard Orr (St. Ignatius); 12 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and sister in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, three sisters, daughter Diane Kehoe, son John R. Orr and one grandson.

Memorial services were held at Yates Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Hospice of North Idaho or Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 2472, Spokane WA 99210.

ANSELMO PADILLA
MISSOULA -- Anselmo "Sham" Padilla died on Jan. 18, 2002, at St. Patrick Hospital here. He was born April 21, 1926, in Cheyenne, WY, to Lorenza and Patricio Padilla. Raised in Stevensville, Missoula, Moiese and Ronan, he graduated from Ronan High School. In October 1944 he married Lois Reed. They were married for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sisters, Aurora Eiseman and Elbira Sloan. Survivors include his children: Judy Bradford, Gary Padilla, Kathleen Rosetti and son-in-law Joseph (all of Missoula); brothers Henry Padilla and Tony Padilla (both of Ronan), and Patric Padilla (Missoula); sisters Betty Hopkins (Ronan) and Anita Stevens (Great Falls); three grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Jan. 23 in Missoula. Memorials may be made to the St. Patrick Hospital Renal Dialysis Center.

JOSEPHINE PIERRE
PABLO -- Josephine "Dee" Antoine Pierre, 70, died on Dec. 11, 2001, in Missoula.

Dee was born to Frank and Susan (Quequesah) Antoine at the family home in Arlee on Sept. 9, 1931. A lifelong resident of the Flathead Reservation, she received her education at the Ursuline School and later at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. She was a homemaker and had worked for the Detox Program.

In 1972, she married Phillip Pierre and they made their home in the Pablo area.

She was a member of the Salish-Kootenai Tribes. She loved to play keno and bingo, especially when she won. She also loved to spend time with her family and reminisce about the "good old days" and huckleberry picking. She especially loved to argue.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers who died in infancy; a brother, Billy; a sister, Rosie; and most recently, her husband, Phillip.

Survivors include her children, JoAnne (Ben) Ascencio (Pablo), James Couture (Ronan), Lisa Francis (Missoula), Bert (Freda) Carpentier (Ronan) and a granddaughter she raised, Nicole Antoine (Pablo); sisters Alice Goodman (Ronan), Marian Michel (Pablo), Cecille Antoine and Franie Antoine (Spokane) and Helen Denally (St. Ignatius); brothers James Antoine (Ronan) and Chris WindChief (Wolf Point); uncle Alec (Betty) Quequesah and auntie Sophie (Gene) Mays (Ronan); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and stepchildren Arch Carpentier, Wes Carpentier, Jake Carpentier, Marie Carpentier, Sharlene Kee, Phillip Pierre Jr. and Duane Pierre.

Traditional wake services were held at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated in St. Ignatius. Interment followed in Arlee.

CINDY JO PLATT
POLSON -- Cindy Jo Platt, 46, of Polson, died on April 25, 2002, in Kalispell. She was born on Feb. 16, 1956, in Polson, to Charles L. and Vivian M. (Leibel) Platt. Cindy attended Polson schools, graduating from high school there in 1975. She was married to Steve Vert Sr. She enjoyed soccer, softball, water skiing, bowling and dancing with her father. Following her accident in 1984, Cindy continued to be active in her life, raising her two children and living in her own home. One of her greatest joys was shopping and giving to others. She was preceded in death by her father, grandmother Eva Leibel and her other grandparents. She is survived by her two children, Steve Vert Jr. and daughter Kori Vert (Polson); her mother, Vivian, and her stepfather, Keith Ross (Polson); four sisters, Charlene (Randy) Avery (Kalispell), Darlene (Aly) Hoerner (Kalispell), Lyn (Ron) Fricker (Polson) and Tammy (Randy) Kelley (Polson); and two stepsisters, Debbie (Gregg) Knutson (Polson) and Lori (Dave) Neptune (Missoula). A memorial service was held on April 27 in Polson. Inurnment followed at Lakeview Cemetery.

F. MARION POLLMAN
POLSON -- F. Marion Pollmann, 95, died on Jan. 7, 2002, at Evergreen Health Care Center here of natural causes. Marion was born June 22, 1906, in Beardstown, IL, to Frank and Evangeline Cameron Harlan. Marion married Ludwig "Louie" Carl Pollmann on Jan. 11, 1926, in Harlowton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a grandson, Daniel Funke. She is survived by her son, Harlan "Chub" Pollmann (Ronan); daughters and spouses Lillian and Neil Noble, and Eva Funke (all of Polson), Carol and Gary Thomas (Camp Tuffit), and Karen and Dan Corcoran (Point Arena, CA); 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Jan. 12. Inurnment followed in Polson. The family suggests donations be made to the Polson City Library.

LEMUEL NAHUM PRICE
MISSOULA -- Lemuel Nahum Price was born on May 25, 1977, in Springfield, OR, to George and Barbara Price. He died on April 20 as the result of a car crash here. He attended school in Dixon, and graduated from Two Eagle River School in Pablo in 1995, where he excelled at basketball. He married his high school sweetheart, Theresa Brown, after his freshman year at the University of Montana, in June of 1996. He graduated from UM in May 2001 with a degree in photojournalism. He was a Fellow of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and of The Associated Press Managing Editors. He was awarded internships with the Santa Fe New Mexican, the Tacoma News-Tribune, the Seattle bureau of The Associated Press and the Great Falls Tribune. Lem also did freelance photo work at the Missoulian and at Char-Koosta Newsduring his college days. Just two weeks ago, Lem was hired for his first full-time newspaper photography job at the Topeka (Kansas) Capitol Journal. He is survived by his parents (Dixon); sisters Hannah and Faith (Missoula); a brother, Noah (Dixon); children Kiyana and Wakiyan (Dixon); nieces Daliyah and Cora (Missoula); maternal grandparents Bob and Esther Annis (Spokane); paternal grandparents George and Millie Price (Marina Del Rey, CA); and many uncles, aunts and cousins. A wake was held at the St. Ignatius Longhouse. The body was laid to rest at the family farm in Dixon.

R. DARYL PROUD
DAYTON -- R. Daryl Proud, 90, died at his home in Dayton from natural causes on Jan. 26, 2002.

He was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Dayton to Roy and Frankie (Thompson) Proud. Daryl graduated from the eighth grade at Dayton and from Polson High School.

On Dec. 30, 1932, he married Berenice Thompson in Kalispell. Daryl served in World War II and was with the army of occupation in Japan. After his discharge from the service he returned to his home and joined his parents in their ranching business.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Berenice at the family home in Dayton; two sons, Jim and wife Dee Proud and Billy and wife Barb Proud, all of Dayton; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

MITCHELL A. REDCROW
HOT SPRINGS -- Mitchell A. Redcrow, 52, died on May 3, 2002, at Clark Fork Valley Hospital in Plains. He was born Oct. 2, 1949, in St. Ignatius to Michael "Mike" and Lucy (Contesto) Redcrow. Raised in Camas Prairie until 1967, the family moved to Hot Springs, where Mitchell graduated from Hot Springs High School before serving in the Army. While in the Army, Mitchell served in Germany. After receiving his honorable discharge from the armed forces, he returned to Hot Springs, where he worked various jobs for the Forest Service. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Pete Redcrow, Tony Redcrow, Isaac Redcrow, Andy Redcrow and Joe Paul; and sisters Arleen and Dini Redcrow. Survivors include his sisters, Philomene Redcrow (Hot Springs), Mary Bradley (St. Ignatius) and Teresa Paul (Missoula); and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews. Traditional wake services were conducted at the family home. Burial followed in Camas Prairie.

WILLIAM 'BILLY' REDMAN
RONAN -- William "Billy" Redman, 40, died at his home in Polson on Jan. 31, 2002. He was born Dec. 2, 1961, in St. Ignatius to Lawrence and Shirley (Ramsey) Redman. He grew up and attended schools in Missoula and Polson. He is survived by his mother (Polson); father and stepmother, Lawrence and Carol Redman (Prosser, WA); two sisters, Laura Redman (Auburn, WA) and Mary Bush (Yakima, WA); four brothers, Larry Redman and Gary Redman (Pablo); Clyde Redman (Union Gap, WA), and Pat Redman (Finley, WA); his grandmother, Mary Griffin (Polson); and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Feb. 5 in Polson.

FREDRICK W. ROCKWELL
POLSON -- Fredrick Wayne Rockwell, 95, formerly of St. Ignatius, died at his home here on May 5, 2002, from natural causes. He was born Aug. 28, 1906, in Merriman, NE. Wayne married Agnes Caroline Hay on Sept. 5, 1929, in Seattle. Agnes preceded Wayne in death in 1996, after 67 years of marriage. He is survived by his three sons, Fred Rockwell (St. Ignatius), Robert Rockwell (San Francisco) and Bill Rockwell (Chandler, AZ); seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

JAMES ROGERS
POLSON -- James William Rogers, 67, died on Feb. 23, 2002, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center here. He was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Polson, to Charles B. and Angela (Elwood) Rogers. James was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his father (Rollins); two brothers, Patrick Rogers (Deer Lodge) and Brian Rogers (Sidney); one niece and two nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Evergreen.

HAZEL M. ROSE
RONAN -- Hazel M. Rose, 89, died of natural causes on Feb. 19, 2002, at the St. Luke Extended Care Facility here. Hazel was born July 28, 1912, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Clarence and Adeline Jones. She married to Carl Albert Rose on Jan. 29, 1941, in Red Lodge. Carl preceded her in death in 1983. She also was preceded in death by a son, Carl G. Rose; a daughter, Sherrelle Sharp; and a grandson, Kenneth Wood. She is survived by a son, Marvin Rose (Port Orchard, WA); granddaughters Carla Rose and Angela Rose; daughter Elaine Wood (Ronan); grandson Clint Wood; daughter Raemae Jones (Cody, WY); grandson Greg Jones; granddaughters Melanee Kennell and Sherrida Jones; grandson Nathan Matson; granddaughter Deva Ward; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services were conducted on Feb. 22 in Ronan. Memorials be made to the American Lung Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
