C. WAYNE MAHUGH
POLSON -- C. Wayne Mahugh, 85, died on June 5, 2003, of natural causes at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan. Wayne was born on Aug. 3, 1917, in Froid to Orville and Cressy Mahugh. Wayne had a long, successful career as a salesman and manager in California, Wyoming, Iowa and Missouri. He married Dora Burton on Sept. 26, 1938, in Creston. Wayne served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Upon returning to the Montana area he worked at Buttrey's, and sold Fuller Brush products and industrial lubricants. He was also employed in Kalispell, later relocating to Polson as owner-manager of Mahugh Ford. He also was the owner-manager of the Mahugh Implement Massey Ferguson Dealership. After a brief retirement, he managed the Cenex Co-op in Ronan. He enjoyed gardening and time spent at his Lake Blaine and Flathead Lake properties. He was active in the Christian Church, Kiwanis, soil conservation, was director of the Seeley Bank and was a charter member of the First Citizens Bank in Polson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Chet, and a grandson. He is survived by Dora, his wife of 64 years; sons Bryan Mahugh (Polson) and Larry Mahugh and his wife Nona (Anchorage, AK); daughter Gina Fulford and her husband Brian (Kalispell); three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Les Mahugh and his wife Mary (Creston). A celebration of life was held on June 7 in Polson. Memorials may be made to the Polson Community Church or add a book to the Lewis and Clark Expedition selection at the Polson City Library.

GARY ORR
ST. IGNATIUS -- Gary Bruce Orr, 51, died suddenly from a pulmonary embolism on June 1, 2003, at his home here. Gary was born on Oct. 29, 1951, in Missoula, to Alvin and Patsy (Traylor) Orr. Raised in St. Ignatius, he attended Mission schools, graduating from St. Ignatius High School before attending Montana State Univ. in Bozeman. After a couple semesters at Bozeman, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Okinawa, Japan. Upon his return from his military service, Gary completed his education by attending Univ. of Idaho in Moscow and finishing his B.S. in forestry from the Univ. of Montana. Gary had received many awards for his work in forestry. He was a forest manager with the Bureau of Indian Affairs for almost 20 years, working in Cortez, CO; Vernal and Ft. Duchesne, UT, before coming to work for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes where he has been the Forest Manager for the last seven years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing and helping his family brand. He also enjoyed landscaping and working on the lawn and garden. Gary also helped decorate the town of St. Ignatius for many years during the holiday season. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Alvin, in 1998. He married Kim Harrison on Dec. 18, 1981, and she survives him at the family home. He is also survived by his children Kiel and Kristi (St. Ignatius), Tami and her husband, Shane (Missoula) and Tawna and her husband, Clark (Maple Valley, WA); his mother, Patsy Orr (Warm Springs, OR); his stepmother, Jean Orr (Pablo); his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Tim and Peggy Orr (St. Ignatius), Anita and Shorty Matt (Moiese), Jerry and Kathy Orr (Ocean Shores, WA), Jeannie and Dean Seyler (Pinetop, AZ), and Sharon Orr (Warm Springs, OR); a stepbrother, Danny Morrison (Pablo); three grandchildren, Zoe, Sophia and Aidan; his dog, Cosmo; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. A private family viewing and service took place on June 5. A memorial dinner for friends was held afterwards at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Cremation has taken place.

THERESA RODRIGUEZ
EVARO -- Theresa Mae "2D" Lozeau Rodriguez died on June 7, 2003, at St. Luke Extended Care in Ronan. She was born on Jan. 15, 1929, at St. Ignatius to Edward Ta'a Lozeau and Theresa Lillacelle Lozeau. She was a full-blood and could speak both the Flathead and Blackfeet languages. In her younger days she was known as "Queen of the Flatheads." She was raised by her grandparents Peter Charlie and Mataley. Her sister-in-law is Christine Jimmy of B.C. and her "special" sister is Clara Bourdon. Brothers and sisters preceding her in death were Alexander Lozeau, Thomas Alfred Lozeau, Mary Louise Lozeau Pierre, Rosalie Lozeau, Margaret Lozeau, Alice Lozeau, Agnes Lozeau, Edward Lozeau, Napoleon Lozeau, Thomas Lozeau and Annie Lozeau. Sons and daughters preceding her in death were Tommy Mahseelah, Billy Stanger, Robert Stanger Morigeau and Theresa "Telah" Hewankorn Piapot. Her surviving sons and daughters are Paul Mahseelah, Adrian Mahseelah, Ronnie Stanger (Adrian McKee), Anthony Plant, Jacqui Plant, and other step-sons and step-daughters. She also has many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren too numerous to list. She was born and raised in Moiese Valley and went to the old Moiese School. Later, she moved to the Mission Valley where she was a homemaker and was happy taking care of her many grandchildren. She was an avid outdoors-woman who could chop wood with the best of them. She had many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and her personal passions were cooking big meals, beadwork, singing traditional stickgame songs and gambling. She was on the powwow trail most of her life in Montana, California and Colorado. Traditional wake services were held at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on June 9. Cremation followed in Missoula.

HEATHER SHEPARD-ADAMS
ST. IGNATIUS -- Heather Marie Shepard-Adams, 16, died on June 8, 2003, from injuries sustained in a car accident with her sister-cousin, Viola Brown Johnson. Heather was born on Aug. 25, 1986, to Andrea Adams and Arthur Shepard. She was lovingly known by many as "Auntie Hellers." Although she didn't have any children of her own, she was "auntie" and "mamma" to many children that she cared for as if they had been hers. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Nadine Adams and Beulah Brubaker; her cousin Shelley McLeod; and an uncle, Duane Bourdon. She is survived by her mother, Andrea Adams (St. Ignatius); her father, Art Shepard (Missoula); four brothers, Brendan Adams (Ronan) and Gabe, Vincent and Calvin Shepard (St. Ignatius); two sisters, Lisa Dunlap (NC) and Isabelle Pablo (Arlee); her grandfather, Louis Adams (Arlee); nine uncles; seven aunts; five sister-cousins; other cousins; and many friends. A wake was conducted at the St. Ignatius Community Center. Funeral services were held on June 12 at the Longhouse with burial following at the Adams family cemetery at Valley Creek.

CECILIA ALEXANDER
ST. IGNATIUS -- Cecilia Ann "Cecile" Alexander, 34, died on Jan. 16, 2003 at the Alexander family home in Elmo. Cecile was born on March 9, 1967, to Eli and Agnes (Hewankorn) Alexander of St. Ignatius. She attended school at Mission. A dedicated mother, Cecile was a member of the Salish Kootenai Tribes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Porky, Isaac, Levi, and Francis Alexander; a sister, Christine; and aunts Telah Hewankorn, Louise Conko (Granny), Jeanette Conko and Margaret Conko Friedlander. She is survived by four brothers and their spouses: Andy and Florence, Camille, Louie and Dawn, and Richard and Bernie Alexander; three sisters and their spouses: Josephine Hernandez, Mary "Lulu" Alexander and Rose and James Morigeau; children Del Michael Joseph, Deidra Joseph, Deborah Dawn Joseph and Doug Matt, Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A wake was conducted in St. Ignatius. Mass was celebrated at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church, with interment following at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.

GLEN DELAWARE
ST. IGNATIUS -- Glen Oliver "Chief" Delaware, 68, of Helena, died on Jan. 20, 2003.
A member of the Salish-Kootenai Tribes, he married Lilla Kate Roberts.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing and partying. His brother, Dewayne Delaware, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Theresa Pearl Delaware Dunn (Aikens, SC); three sons: Meshell Lee "Mike" (Grovetown, GA), Andy James (Liberty, SC), and Gerald Len (Irvine, KY); a brother, Leonard "Stub" Delaware (Hot Springs); a sister, Barbara Gains (Spokane); eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held in Helena.
Mass was celebrated on Jan. 25 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission, with burial with military honors following at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

RUTH FREDRICKSON
POLSON -- Ruth Rose Fredrickson, 81, died at her home here on Jan. 8, 2003, from natural causes.
She was preceded in death by her husband Myron in 1976, her parents Peter and Elizabeth Furhmann, three sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Gaile Jacobson (Polson); two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Hulda Tate (Great Falls) and Leiha Walker (Glasgow); and one brother, James Furhmann (Ronan).
A graveside funeral was conducted on Jan. 13 at the Lonepine Cemetery.

EILEEN KIMES
MOIESE -- Eileen Janice Kimes died on Jan. 27, 2003, of cancer.
Eileen was born in Fort Collins, CO, on Aug. 27, 1939.
She married Donald (Cotton) Kimes and began her life as a devoted wife.
She had three children, Kenny, John and Roxie.
She loved to garden, play the piano and sing, and watching hummingbirds.
She also loved to cook and garage sales.
Eileen is survived by her husband; three children, Kenneth Kimes (WY), John Kimes (WY) and Roxanna Dennison (MT) and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 2 in St. Ignatius.
