WILLARD CROCKETT
POLSON -- Willard Clark Crockett died at his Polson home on Oct. 10, 2003. He was born on Sept. 25, 1919, in Minto Township, N.D., to William Malcolm Crockett and Ethel Skinner, the third of nine children. He attended and graduated from Minto High School, then continued to farm with his family in North Dakota. Willard also continued the Crockett family tradition of raising, working, showing and breeding Clydesdale draft horses. On March 25, 1947, Willard married Lorraine Emma Nuelle of Langdon, N.D. In 1965, Willard and the family moved to Polson, where he developed the Crockett Clydesdale Ranch. He also continued to farm in North Dakota until 1983. Willard was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Crockett, brother Nathaniel Colwell Crockett and great-grandson Jacob Kohler. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; four children and their spouses, Bill and Janet Crockett, Craig and Andrea Crockett, Doug and Kathy Crockett, and Carla and Steve Delay (all of Polson); brother Claude Crockett (ND); sisters Elva Whiting (Polson), Wanelda Schafer (Big Arm), Iona Schmidt (Glendive) and Noreen Bishop (Spokane); nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was conducted on Oct. 15 in Polson.

LOIS FARNUM
POLSON -- Lois Kathryn Farnum, 85, died on Oct. 14, 2003, at the Hospice of St. John in Lakewood, Colo. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Polson at a later date. Lois was born in Virgelle, MT, on Sept. 16, 1918, one of three children of Roland E. and Florence C. (Dubbs) Kingsford. She graduated from Missoula County High School in 1937 and attended the Univ. of Montana. On Oct. 6, 1940, she married Donald D. Farnum in Missoula. Lois lived in Polson for over 60 years. She and Don owned several businesses including The Red and White Grocery Store (in the current location of the Lake City Bakery and Eatery) and a motel (at the current location of the Super 1 Foods of Polson). She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, PEO, Order of Eastern Star and the Amicitias Club. She was church organist for many years and an accompanist for high school musicians and other area groups. She was an intense sports fan. Her family will fondly remember her at the piano, enjoying a card game, working in her yard, gardens and kitchen, and cheering (loudly) for a favorite team, especially the Grizzlies. She is survived by her daughter Jane Laraby (Lakewood); son David Farnum (Littleton, CO); brother Thomas R. Kingsford (Peoria, AZ); four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews. Contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 811 First Ave., Suite 520, Seattle, WA 98104.

ELI FINLEY
PABLO -- Eli Finley, 18, died on Oct. 3, 2003, as the result of an auto accident. Born July 6, 1985, in Ronan to Alex "Rick" and Sarah Gardipe Finley, he was raised and educated on the Flathead Reservation. Eli was a member of the Conf. Salish and Kootenai Tribes and had many interests such as fishing and hunting -- just about anything outdoors. He was a free-style dancer and enjoyed writing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Gardipe Finley; a brother Ta'a McKee; grandpa Pete Finley; and grandmother Rose Gardipe. Survivors include his father, Alex "Rick" Finley, Sr. (Ronan); his brothers P.J. Finley (Pablo), Alex Finley, Jr., Jacob Finley and Stephen Finley (Ronan); grandmother Margaret Gardipe (Pablo) and Grandpa Robert LittleBoy (St. Ignatius); as well as a large and extended family of aunties, uncles, cousins and friends. A wake began Oct. 5 at his grandmother's home in Pablo; it moved to the Longhouse on Oct. 6. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Oct. 9 in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. Interment followed in the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.

ANCIL FREEMAN
PABLO -- Ancil E. "Gene" Freeman died on Oct. 7, 2003, at his home here. Gene was born in Norman, TN, on Jan. 11, 1925. He was the oldest of eight children born to the Rev. Albert and Etta Freeman. He left home at the age of 17 to join the Navy, spending his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater on the destroyer Halsey Powell. Gene was never wounded in the conflict despite the near sinking of his ship by a kamikaze attack. He returned home after the war following his discharge. Shortly after, he joined the Army, serving throughout the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne where he earned a Bronze Star. Gene married Rose Peterson on July 19, 1952. They eventually found their way to Montana, where Rose had been raised. They settled in the Mission Valley and lived there ever since. Gene worked for many years in the Bureau of Indian Affairs and with Kicking Horse Job Corps. He had many interests and hobbies: fishing, hunting, camping, music, reading, bowling and pinochle. He enjoyed all sports. He played semiprofessional ball as a young man. He was a skilled builder and craftsman and liked to spend time in his garden and in the woods surrounding his home. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Louise; his parents; brothers Duke and Vernon; and sisters June and Lib. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Robert Blomgren; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Ileen Freeman, and Bill and Donna Freeman; five granddaughters; three sisters, Chris, Gerri and Dionne; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Oct. 10 Ronan. A short graveside ceremony followed.

BENITA FULTON
KALISPELL -- Benita Lyon Fulton, 85, died here on Oct. 27, 2003. She was born May 7, 1918, on the Michel Pablo home ranch south of Pablo to Benjamin Nicholson and Effie (McPherson) Lyon. She attended Glacier View Country School for only seven years because she skipped the fifth grade and then went on to graduate from Ronan High School in 1935. There was no money for college even though she earned an honors scholarship, so she stayed home for a year and worked for the Ronan Pioneer newspaper. In 1936, she won a new Ford car in a dollar raffle, promptly sold it and used the money to attend Montana State College in Bozeman, where she graduated with a degree in home economics in 1940. She met Dulane Fulton and married him Dec. 31, 1941, in Oakland, CA. She taught school for 10 years at the Columbia Falls Junior High and Kalispell Junior High. Benita was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, AAUW, Retired Teachers and the Ruth Circle of the Presbyterian Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her husband; four children and their spouses: Robert and Peggy Fulton (Lewiston, ID), Richard and Suzanne Fulton (Bellingham, WA), Shirley and Jack Vines (Spokane) and Glen and Becky Fulton (Kalispell); eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held on Nov. 2 in Kalispell. The family suggests memorials be given to the Presbyterian Women's Circles, 540 S. Main St., Kalispell; or Hospice Home Health Options, 175, Commons Way, Kalispell, MT 59901.

LAURALEE HAMBERG
ARLEE -- Lauralee Hamberg, 17, of Arlee, died on Oct. 29, 2003, at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 2 at the family home.

PATRICIA HENRIKSEN
POLSON -- Patricia Joanne Maher Henriksen, 64, died on Oct. 25, 2003, at her home here. Patricia was born on July 20, 1939, in Glasgow. She grew up in Cut Bank, was educated at the Univ. of Montana and served her community, her friends, her husband, her children and grandchildren. After growing up in Cut Bank, Pat attended the Univ. of Idaho one year and graduated from UM in 1961. She helped support her husband, Gale, during medical school by teaching in Wisconsin, South Dakota and Colorado. They served in the military in Alaska before practicing medicine in St. Maries, ID, from 1971 to 1994. Pat's life was the definition of unconditional love to friends and family but especially to her children: Jenifer Mitchell (Kalispell), Monica Nilsson (Post Falls, ID), Craig Henriksen (Spokane) and Clint Henriksen (Polson); her daughters- and sons-in-law; and her nine grandchildren. Pat's passing was preceded by her parents, Hazel and Clarence Maher. In addition to her husband, children and their families, she is survived by her sister Kathy Cottrill and brother Bud Maher. A memorial service was held Polson. The family suggests memorials to the Lake County Search and Rescue, Polson Public Library, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Assoc.

LEONARD HOLT
POLSON -- Leonard Max Holt, 73, died on Oct. 21, 2003, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center here. Lenny was born May 31, 1930, in St. Ignatius, to Clarence "Smokey" and Lily Holt. At the age of 16, he joined the Army. A year later, he married Ramona Belle Meagher. The couple lived in Missoula, Cut Bank, Kevin and Polson, and in Wisconsin and California. Lenny's career included working at Waldorf-Horner, Carter Refinery, Lake Superior Refinery, Richfield Refinery, Big West Refinery and Flying J Refinery. He and his mother drilled a couple of successful oil wells, and he and his wife operated the Roger D. Holt's Wood Nook for a time. Around 1983, they bought Bert's Place in Kevin and renamed it Oilpatch Junction and worked there until 1994, when he retired due to ill health. They then traveled in their motor home. Lenny enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and visiting with his friends. He was preceded in death by his father and wife; his son, Roger; his daughter, Sheila; and a brother, Lawrence. He is survived by his mother, Lily Holt (Polson); two daughters, Suzette Albert (Sacramento, CA) and Nikki Loudermilk (Libby); a sister, Maxine Hammond; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Oct. 25 in Polson. Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery.

CHRISTINE HUSKY
ST. IGNATIUS -- Christine Marie Lozeau Husky, 62, died at her home in Portland, Ore., on Oct. 18, 2003. She was born on Sept. 26, 1941, in St. Ignatius to Thomas Alfred and Margaret Mary (Joscum) Lozeau. Orphaned at a young age, she was raised by her aunts and uncles on the Flathead Reservation and the Coast. A member of the Conf. Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Christine was a mother and later became a foster parent. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Julia Evans Green; siblings Annie Lozeau, Irene Louise Lozeau, Daniel Noel Tenas, Eugene Louise Lozeau and Ronald "Ronnie" Lozeau. She is survived by her children: Sharon Marker, Charles Logan, Esther Logan, James Logan Jr., Derrick Gibbs, Roseanna Logan, Serena Hill, Maria Jackson-Lopez; brothers and sisters Victoria Jane "Vicki" Lozeau (Wapato, WA), Patrick Louis Lozeau (Portland), Edward Lozeau (Worley, ID), Ken Lozeau (Ronan), Thomas Alfred Lozeau Jr. (Ronan) and Victoria Ray Lozeau (St. Ignatius); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Traditional wake services began on Oct. 22 at the Longhouse in St. Ignatius. Interment was at the Pleasant View Cemetery at St. Ignatius.
