MARJORIE BURTCH
RONAN -- Marjorie Mae Burtch died on New Year's Day at St. Luke's Extended Care Facility here. She had been married to Robert Orlando Burtch for 49 years. He passed away in 1987. Marge was born in Poplar, lived in California in her early years and came to Montana in her late teens. She died at 83 years of age. She was a school cook at Dixon Public Schools, an active volunteer with PTA and 4-H, and worked as a nurse's aide at St. Ignatius Holy Family Hospital. She loved cooking, canning, gardening, crafting and quilting, nature and bird watching. She is survived by a sister, Mildred Morin (Missoula); a daughter, Donna Burtch Luecke (San Diego); a son, David Burtch (Dixon); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services were conducted on Jan. 6 in Ronan. Burial took place in St. Ignatius.

NICK DALLY JR.
MISSOULA -- Nick Tien Dally Jr., 58, died of natural causes here on Jan. 31, 2004. Nick was born Dec. 4, 1945, in Glendale, CA, to Nick and June Dally, the second of four children. Nick enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, hunting and fishing. Nick was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Dan Dally. Survivors include three sons, Buckland Tien Dally and family (St. Ignatius), Nickie Todd and family (CA) and Gean Lee and family (Dixon); daughter Jennifer and family; sister Shelley Thomas and family (Missoula); brother Jim and his wife, Virginia (St. Ignatius); 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were conducted on Feb. 7 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission.

LLOYD DERANLEAU
POLSON -- Lloyd Jean "Frenchy" Deranleau, 76, died at home here on Jan. 3, 2004. The son of Lattie and Archie Deranleau, he was born on April 5, 1927, in Polson where he attended school. He quit school his junior year and enlisted in the Navy. He served in Hawaii, then returned to Polson to finish his education. Before, during and after school he held various jobs including pin-setter at the bowling alley, movie projectionist and golf caddy. He was an electrician for 47 years. One of his favorite pastimes was his daily get-together with all his poker buddies at the Lake City Bakery, which was something he did every morning for almost 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leo; and a grandson. Survivors include his wife of 57 years; five children and their spouses: daughter Vicky (Don) Osbourne, and sons Dana, Rocky (Carrie), Royal (Becky) -- all of Polson, and Daryl (OH); his brother Barney Barnekoff (Idaho); and 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place.

MARY 'EMMA' DUPUIS
EVARO -- Mary "Emma" Dupuis, 89, died at her home here on Jan. 30, 2004. Mary's parents, Carl and Mary Davis of Polson, preceded her in death, as did her husband, Arnold Dupuis. Mary is survived by two sons and their wives, Ken W. and Antoinette Meeds Dupuis and Carl M. and Ennis Kunoto (Missoula); several grandchildren: Dennis Dupuis, Doug Dupuis, Marci Freshour, Lori Penrod, Marsha Roetcisoender, Wendy Gestern, Mark Dupuis, Hanna Dupuis and Eko Sudaryanto; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; a nephew; and other extended family members and friends. Mary loved animals. She attended schools in Polson, the Ursuline Academy, and Haskell in Lawrence, Kan. Following secretarial training at Haskell, she returned to the Flathead Indian Reservation and began employment with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Flathead Indian Agency). She retired from the BIA in 1969. Mary touched the lives of hundreds of people during her years with the BIA. Her life was full, but simple, by her own choice. She traveled to foreign lands. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Feb. 5. Interment followed in the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.

MARY G. ENEAS
ELMO -- Mary G. Eneas, 91, Elmo, died on Jan. 13, 2004, at St. Luke Extended Care in Ronan from natural causes. Mary was born in Tobacco Plains, B.C., on May 14, 1912, to Louie and Sophie Philip. She was educated at St. Mariešs Mission in Cranbrook, BC. In 1931, she married Modeste Youstah Eneas and spent the next few years traveling through Canada and the Northwest. They settled in Elmo. They had a total of nine children throughout their 68 years together. Mary spent her life raising children, grandchildren and caring for other family members and friends. She had great pride in her family. She enjoyed tanning hides, beading, playing Chinese checkers and bingo. She was a Polson Pirate fan. Her true love of life was playing stickgame. She traveled many states to play, and is known throughout the valley as "Six-pack." Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six children: Bernice, Leo, Joe, Theresa, Toby and Michael. She is also preceded in death by Madeline and Agatha, and a nephew. She is survived by her children Christine Lacey (Salem, OR), Johnny (Elmo), and Bernard and his wife Grace (Spokane, WA); 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wake services took place in the Elmo Hall. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Jan. 17 in Elmo. Burial followed at Dayton Cemetery.

DAVID L. ERCHUL
CAMAS PRAIRIE -- David Louis "Dave" Erchul, 58, died unexpectedly on Jan. 6, 2004, at his home at Camas Prairie. Dave, the son of Joe M. and Virginia Cameron Erchul, was born July 15, 1945, in Missoula. He attended schools at Camas Prairie and Hot Springs and graduated from high school in 1964. He joined the National Guard. He worked for Diehl Lumber Co. of Plains and on the Sanders County road crew. At the time of his death he was working as a custodian at the Camas Prairie School. In July 1974 he married Patricia Click in Plains. The couple made their home at Camas Prairie for the next 29 years. They enjoyed the cattle and growing crops. He is survived by his wife; one brother, Jay Erchul (Hot Springs); one sister, Mary Nell Klawitter (Missoula); four nieces; one nephew; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was laid to rest on Jan. 9 at Plains Cemetery.

WALTER FREY
POLSON -- Walter August Frey, 87, died of natural causes on Jan. 11, 2004, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center here. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Meranda; stepchildren Marlene Burnett (Roy, UT), and Douglas Payne (Tabernash, CO); sisters Grace Brooks (Missoula) and Hazel Zumwalt (Polson); eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 27 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Jan. 16 in Polson. Interment with military honors followed at Pleasant View Cemetery in St. Ignatius.

CHARLES LEA
POLSON -- Charles W. "Scotty" Lea, 80, died on Jan. 11, 2004, from natural causes at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. He was born on March 11, 1923, in Stevensville, to Charles and Leona Lea. He grew up and attended schools there, graduating in 1941. He studied agriculture at MT State Univ. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He then attended the Univ. of MT, earning a bachelor and master's degree in music education. He taught at Havre High School, and in Bigfork and Corvallis. He was married for time to Corine Sdeum. On July 11, 1964, he married Jane Hevever. They eventually moved to Polson where Scotty taught music for two years before retiring in 1976. He also worked as a district manager for KAR Products in Montana and Idaho. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Polson and an avid reader. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother John and sister Frances. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Polson); three sons and their wives, Scott and Bonnie Lea (Louisville, KY), Daniel and Karen Lea (Federal Way, WA), and Michael and Shanda Lea (Tularosa, NM); three grandchildren; and a sister, Nonce McGiffin. A memorial service was held on Jan. 15 in Polson.

CLAUDE LEISHMAN
ST. IGNATIUS -- Claude McCoard Leishman, 88, died on Jan. 9, 2004. He was born on June 14, 1915, in Wellsville, UT, to William and Isabelle Leishman. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He married Julia Roay on Nov. 20, 1944, in Calif. During his youth he milked cows and grew hay and wheat. After military service, he went back to farming in St. Ignatius. In 1976, he went into raising beef cattle. He is survived by his wife; three sons and their wives: Paul and Shirley (Pioneer, CA), Aaron and Marci (St. Ignatius), and Max (Three Forks); 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Eva, Afton and Donna. Graveside services were held on Jan. 12 in St. Ignatius.
