Ben D. Simonson

Ben D. Simonson, 58, of Terry died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at the Prairie County Nursing Home in Terry.

Born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 28, 1945, he was the son of William S. and Helen Romero-Blanco Simonson. He attended elementary school in Beach, N.D. The family then moved to Glendive where he attended and graduated from high school. He then moved to Billings where he attended Eastern Montana College.

Mr. Simonson joined the Army in 1965. He then moved to Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, where he attended pharmaceutical school.

After pharmaceutical school, he moved to Ft. Dix, N.J., and became an Army Ranger. Then he became an Airborne Ranger at Ft. Benning, Ga. Mr. Simonson served out his remaining time in the military as a Pharmacy Specialist.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting and had a love for animals. Mr. Simonson worked seismograph, construction and in the health care field throughout his life. He had many past and present friends and neighbors whom he loved dearly.

Survivors include his mother, Helen Simonson of Glendive; his significant other, Jeanne Winslow of Terry; and two sisters, Laurel Hanson, and her husband, Marlin, of Dickinson, N.D., and Wendy Denby of Alliance, Neb.

His survivors also include two aunts, Carmen and Patricia; three uncles, Chris, Dario and Judge; two nieces, Vondra Iverson and VaNessa Green; seven nephews, CJ Denby, Tyler Denby, Scott Hanson, Brent Hanson, Jeffery Hanson, Richard Simonson, and Allen Simonson.

He was preceded in death by his father, William S. Simonson; and a brother, Alfred R. Simonson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Interment will follow in the Dawson Memorial Park in Glendive.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in care of Jeanne Winslow, P.O. Box 825, Terry, MT 59301.

Lavina A. Deveny

A funeral Mass for Lavina A. Deveny, 93, of Billings was held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Hysham. The Rosary preceded the Mass. Internment followed in the Hysham Cemetery.

Mrs. Deveny died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, of natural causes in Billings.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1911, to Henry and Mary Schrandt on their farm east of Plainville, Kan. Mrs. Deveny spent her youth in Plainville and then attended beauty school in Hayes, Kan. She worked as a beautician in Hayes and Kansas City, Mo., before moving to work in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1936.

In 1943 she bought and operated the Mayfair Beauty Salon in San Francisco. Mrs. Deveny was fond of her adopted state California. She enjoyed dancing to the music of the Big Band Era, spending time at the beach, competing in archery, attending operas and riding horses.

She and Dan Deveny from Sanders met while he was stationed in San Francisco during World War II. They were married in 1946.

Following a month-long honeymoon in Mexico they settled on the Deveny family homestead near Sanders where they farmed, ranched and raised five children.

Mrs. Deveny was an accomplished homemaker and gardener. She also enjoyed bowling, playing the piano, card games, and daily walks. She was a member of the Saint Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Hysham and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mr. Deveny died in 1994 and in 1996 Mrs. Deveny moved to the Aspen View Retirement Community in Billings. Since 1998 Mrs. Deveny was a resident of the Rim Shadows Personal Care Home where she was appreciated for her piano playing, upbeat attitude and sense of humor.

Her survivors include her daughters, Patricia Deveny of Billings and Christine Deveny, and her husband, Ken Knudson, of Helena; her sons, Dan R. and Sandy Deveny of Winnemucca, Nev., Frank and Peggy Deveny of Sanders, and Tom Deveny and his friend, Kathy Knudsen, of Missoula; a grandson, Bill Deveny of Bozeman; her granddaughters, Jackie Deveny of Missoula, Laura Murray of Austin, Texas, and Adele Swaim of Helena; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Dan, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. A funeral Mass was held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2004, at the Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Hysham. The Rosary preceded the Mass. Internment followed in the Hysham Cemetery.

Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Sanders Community Hall Foundation, 388 Old Highway 10, Sanders, MT 59076.

Bonnie Marie Sigler

Bonnie Marie Sigler, 73, of Sturgis, S.D., died Thursday Nov. 18, 2004, at the Sturgis Community Health Care Center.

Born Oct. 23, 1931, at Clinton, Minn., she was the daughter of Lenard and Loretta Scott Trebil.

She and Orville Benny Sigler were married in 1950 at Ortonville, Minn. The couple farmed at Clinton, Minn., for 12 years before moving to Sturgis in 1962, where Mrs. Sigler was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Rosary Club, St. Patricia Circle and the Hospital Auxiliary.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Sigler was deeply spiritual and dedicated her life to her family and friends. Her many friends spanned a lifetime and her unique sense of humor brought joy to everyone who met her and many called her "mom," including all the motorcyclists who attended the Sturgis Rally and enjoyed staying at her house, coming from Canada and all across the United States as well as from across the ocean (Netherlands). She was especially loved by her grandchildren.

Her survivors include her daughters, Pam Riggs, and her husband, John, of Miles City, Peg Kinney, and her husband, Don, and Patty Barff, and her husband, Bill, all of Sturgis; one son, Pat Sigler, and his friend, Bobbi Murrow, of Sturgis; a special daughter, Maury Anderson, and her husband, Tim; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Paulsen of Ortonville, Minn.; one brother, Richard Trebil, and his wife, Aleta; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville in 1998; her parents; one sister, Doris; and one grandson.

A rosary will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis beginning at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with burial at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Right to Life, Rosary Club and the St. Francis CCD program.

Phadoris Elaine Timmer

Phadoris Elaine Timmer, 69, of Sioux Falls, S.D., former Miles City resident, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

She was born June 1, 1935, in George, Iowa, the daughter of Pete and Irene Eilders Timmer. She lived on a farm near George with her family, attended rural grade school, then moved to rural Sibley, Iowa, when she was eight years of age. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Sibley High School in 1953.

She attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and graduated in 1955 with a two-year teaching certificate. Later she received her bachelor of arts degree in 1967 from Westmar.

She also attended college in Billings, taking graduate studies in elementary education.

For two years she taught first grade in Havelock, Iowa; two years in Lake City, Iowa; two years in Luverne, Minn.; and 28 years in Miles City for a total of 34 years spent in her teaching career. The "Love of Her Life" was teaching. To her, there was nothing greater than teaching her first graders "reading, writing and math." Also she enjoyed making crafts with the children and in return giving them to their parents.

During her teaching career, she was a member of the Iowa, Minnesota and Montana Education associations and the National Education Association. She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. After retiring from teaching, she moved to Seattle, Wash., and started an espresso business.

Later she moved back to Miles City where she started her espresso business. She showed her love and friendliness by visiting and getting reacquainted with old friends and former students and making many new acquaintances.

In 2001, she became seriously ill and moved to Sioux Falls to be near her family.

She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church, in areas in which she lived.

Her survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Robert Ruckelshausen of Sheldon, Iowa; her nephew, Dan (Jennifer) Ruckelshausen of Sioux Falls; two nieces, Sara (Paul) DeSmith of Granger, Ind., and Teresa Ruckelshausen of Sioux Falls; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Alma Timmer of Lakefield, Minn.; four nephews, Daryl Timmer of St. Croix, Minn., Myron (Sharon) Timmer of Princeton, Minn., Kyle (Kari) Timmer of Okabena, Minn., and Perry (Dawn) Timmer of Jackson, Minn.; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and a special friend, George Keniv of Miles City. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A family prayer service will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at 10:45 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church at Sibley. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, also in the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worthington, Minn.

Arrangements are under the direction of Andringa Funeral Home of Sibley.
