Marjorie Pierce Cole of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Miles City, died of cancer on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004.

She was born June 2, 1928, on the family farm near Oconto, Neb., the youngest child of L.L. and Grace Thurman Pierce.

Upon graduation from high school, she taught for a year in a one-room country school and then moved to Omaha, Neb., where she attended business school.

In Omaha, she met Steve Cole, whom she married on Dec. 10, 1949, in Kearney, Neb. In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Cole moved to Miles City where their three children, Stephanie, Mark and Colin, were born and raised.

Mrs. Cole was involved in the activities of her children and she worked for a number of years in her husband's accounting firm.

At the age of 35, she took up golf, a sport at which she excelled and enjoyed for more than 30 years. She was the Ladies' Club Champion at the Miles City Town and Country Club for nine years prior to moving to Arizona in 1979, where she enjoyed the beautiful climate and pursued her passion for golf. She also was an avid reader and she took great pleasure in the company of her beloved Shitzu, Bailey.

Mrs. Cole was a gracious, caring and compassionate person who will be dearly missed by those who loved her.

Her survivors include her daughter, Stephanie West, and her husband, Joe, of Ridgeway, Colo.; her son, Mark Cole, daughter-in-law, Barb Cole, and granddaughter, Erin Cole, all of Miles City; and her son, Colin Cole, and his companion, Fran Ozur, of Los Angeles, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve in 1979; her sister, Dorothy Koch; and her brothers, Bob, Don and Hazen Pierce.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in Sun City, Ariz. A celebration of Mrs. Cole's life will be held at a later date in Miles City.

Should friends desire, the family suggests donations to the charities of their choices.

Hilda Morris

Funeral services for Hilda Morris, 97, of Forsyth, were held Friday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2004, in the Church of God at Big Timber. Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Morris died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth after a short illness.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1907, at Hebron, N.D., to Peter and Margaret (Hoerauf) Buchli. She was the oldest of five children and spent her early years going to school in Hebron and helping her Dad on the ranch. There she learned to love animals, especially horses.

On Aug. 22, 1927, she eloped and married Paul Fetter. They made their home on her Dad's ranch for the first few years. There her son, Wallace, was born Aug. 19, 1928, and her daughter, Jean, on Dec. 16, 1929.

Shortly after, they moved to Shirley and ranched on Cottonwood Creek through the depression years. She sold eggs and cream to help buy the groceries. Mr. Fetter and the neighbors rounded up wild horses and "green-broke" them to sell.

In 1940, the couple moved to a ranch at Stacey. The 1940s were good years for them, alfalfa seed was selling at a good price and rain was plentiful. Although the children had been boarded out to go to school, while living on the ranch at Stacey, they could ride horseback to school.

In 1950, Mr. Fetter decided he wanted a ranch in the mountains. The Stacey ranch was sold and they moved to Springdale, where they bought a ranch in the foothills of the Crazy Mountains. Although he loved the ranch, her heart was still at Stacey.

In August of 1951, Mr. Fetter was killed in a farm accident and she was widowed at the age of 43.

She later married Sam Morris on June 10, 1952. Their respective ranches were sold and together, they moved to a small farm north of Big Timber where they spent their 35 years together.

They traveled for a few years, but then settled down to doing what Mrs. Morris loved best, animals including goats, sheep, chickens of all kinds, peacocks, geese, ducks, etc. She also loved to raise flowers and vegetables, which she shared with friends and strangers alike.

After Mr. Morris died on April 14, 1987, Mrs. Morris moved to Rosebud in December 1990 to be near her daughter. She later moved to the Rosebud Health Care Center Nursing Home, where she spent the last nine years of her life.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris were members of the Big Timber Church of God, the Springdale Historic Society and the Rock Club.

Her survivors include her daughter, Jean of Rosebud; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Cara Hill of Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Paul and Sam; her son, Wallace; one brother, Albert Buchli; her sisters, Irma Gartley and Agnes Bolke; and one grandson, Thomas Melle.

Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army.

Condolences may be made to the Morris family at www.stevensonandsons.com.

Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth was in charge of the arrangements.
