Ronnie Carson South

Ronnie Carson South, 62, of Miles City died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at the Horizon Hospice Home in Billings.

Born on Dec. 11, 1942, in Blue Springs, Neb., he was the son of Ervin Elwin and Francina Elizabeth Wolfe South. At a very early age, he moved with his family to Miles City where he attended schools and graduated from Custer County High School. Mr. South was quite the athlete in school, participating in football, basketball and track.

Following graduation from high school, Mr. South entered into the United States Navy in 1962, where he served on a supply ship during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1965.

He then returned to Miles City where he began iron working and doing body work.

Mr. South and Karen Pederson were married on Dec. 31, 1970, in Miles City. They made their home in Miles City until 1973, when they moved throughout North Dakota. They moved to Stanford in 1977 then later to Lewistown where he worked as a welder for the missiles until 1983. They then moved back to Miles City where he began working for Trinity Rail Services Inc. as a welder, retiring in 2001. He had remained in Miles City ever since.

He loved to fish, was an avid pool player and was active in the pool league in Miles City. Mr. South also was an avid sports fan and loved to discuss sports with all his family and friends. He loved classic cars. Mr. South was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and had read his bible through many times.

His survivors include two sons, Shawn South, and his wife, Kerry, of Riverport, Nova Scotia, and James "Rusty" South, and his wife, Joleen, of Vaughn; two daughters, Renee Annis, and her husband, Russ, of Vaughn and Heidi Schwarting, and her husband, Curt, of Gordan, Neb.; and six grandchildren, Rebecca and Patrick South, Sarah and Bryce Stangle and Riley and Blake Annis.

Survivors also include two brothers, Larry South, and his wife, Dori, of Miles City and Roger South, and his wife, Barb, of Sheridan, Wyo.; a sister, Patty Williams, and her husband, Ron, of Huntley; an uncle whom he admired as a hero, Vernon D. South of Helena; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donnie South.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Internment, with full military honors, will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Horizon Hospice House, 1019 Neptune Blvd., Billings, MT 59105.

Beatrice Beaverheart, Hap'pe'e "Helping Woman"

Beatrice Beaverheart, Hap'pe'e, "Helping Woman," 55, of Ashland died after a 12-year battle with lupus and Scleroderma.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1949, the daughter of Roberta Tangledyellowhair and Frank Beaverheart, in Crow Agency. She attended St. Labre Catholic School and later she would receive her GED.

She worked doing clerical work, was a motel supervisor and employed by Cheyenne design. An expert seamstress, she specializing in Native American dancing costumes and bead work.

She enjoyed trips to Seattle to see her grandchildren, pow wows, speaking her native language and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Regine Lynn Warner of Seattle, Michelle and Marsha, both of Alaska, Ivene Hart of Texas; her son, Marvin "Sonny" Jr. of California; her brothers, Martin and Marcella Hart Sr. of Ashland, Clifford Crazy Mule of Warm Springs and Eugene and Thelma Hart of Busby; her grandchildren, Joanna Hart, Krystal, Joshua, Teri Lynn, Josie, Draven, Tryan Hart, Austin III, Reann, Dustin, Two Moons, Jason, Loren, Betty and Alden Two Moons.

Her survivors also include her nephews, Martin Jr., Frank, Gabriel, Deshawn Hart, Bill, Austin Jr. Two Moons, Orville, Benny Speelman and Jimmy Selage; her nieces, Roberta, Jamie, Ricki, Neveah Hart and Myra Woodenthigh; her Aunt Eva Small; Uncle Joe Fox; her little dog, Elnino; and her special friend, Jay Little Wolf.

She is also survived by her special friends Rose Eagle Feathers, Lena Gray, Evelyn Standing Elk, Geraldine Fisher, Rosella Pongha, Ladonna Eagle, Donna Rodiguez, Leslie Fisher, Delores Yellow Eyes, Averlos Two Moons, Marcella Crazymule, Amanda Dillard, Leonoard and Linda Little Wolf.

Also surviving her are Margie Shoulderblade and family, Raymond Hart Sr. and family, Roger Hart, Gloria Waters and family, Theda Foote, Clara Harris, Annie Bement, Spotted Elk, White Dirt, Little Bird, Little Whirlwind, Little Wolf, Red Neck and Walks Last.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Roberta and Frank Hart; her grandparents, Charles Beaverheart, Alice Rose Rowland Beaverheart, Gene and Georgia Little Whirl Wind Tangledyellowhair; her brothers, David Hart, Donald Hart, Richard Hart and Clarence Hart; and her sisters, Hilda Two Moons, and Edna Hart.

A Wake will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the St. Labre Church in Ashland. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the St. Labre Church in Ashland. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Labre Cemetery in Ashland.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lucille White Hawk

Lucille White Hawk, 61, of Lame Deer died peacefully at her home in Lame Deer with her family by her side on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005.

Born on Oct. 9, 1943, in Ashland, she was the daughter of Clarence Tallwhiteman and Martha (Harstad) Crawling. She started her schooling at Rosebud, continued it in Lame Deer and finished it at the Busby Boarding School.

Following her education, she was united in marriage to John White Hawk Jr. in March of 1960. Together, they made their home in Lame Deer where they raised their children as well as other children, which became family to them.

She was active in the Northern Cheyenne Head Start program, working as a teacher and a teacher's aide. Mrs. White Hawk enjoyed doing bead work, sewing, long drives in the country, hunting and fishing with family, picnics, cooking traditional foods, cutting dry meat, as well as playing bingo. She especially loved and enjoyed raising children, which included her own as well as her special grandson, Rusty.

Her survivors include her sons, Jerome White Hawk, and his wife, Mariah, John White Hawk III, and his wife, Faith, Bryce Killsontop, and his wife, Betty, and Michael Wolfe Jr.; one daughter, Cleo Cryar; her grandchildren, Toni James (Waylon), Hannah James (Sonny), Hunter James, Christian James, Jesse James, Rusty James, C.J. Cryar, Jeremiah Cryar, Shandyn, Aspen, Peyton, Gage and Johnae White Hawk.

She also is survived by her great-grandchildren, Ariel Spang, Sonny Crazy Mule Jr., Ashanti Crazy Mule, Ezekial Killsontop, Bryce Killsontop Jr., and Aryas Killsontop, as well as her dog, Rocko.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Martha; one son, Clarence White Hawk; one daughter, Mavis White Hawk; one brother, Carl Ray Tallwhiteman; and an infant sister.

Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the Pentecostal Church in Lame Deer. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Pentecostal Church in Lame Deer. Burial will be in the Lame Deer Cemetery. Wake services will be on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the Pentecostal Church in Lame Deer.

Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Lou Peterson

Betty Lou Peterson, 77, of Wolf Point, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She died in Billings with her family by her side.

Born on March 31, 1927, in Mayville, N.D., she was the daughter of Halfdan and Minnie Gilbertson. She attended school in North Dakota and later moved to Bagley, Minn., where she graduated from high school.

She attended Teacher Training School in Grand Forks, N.D. Following teacher training, she taught in rural county schools out of Grand Forks. In 1948, she went west to Montana to teach at Volt School north of Wolf Point.

During this time, she met and fell in love with Robert Peterson, whom she later married on April 7, 1949.

The couple made their home 28 miles north of Wolf Point on the family farm.

Mrs. Peterson was a woman of strong faith and lived her life accordingly. She was raised and lived her life with the belief to be caring, loving and kind to others.

She was always there for her children by being a loving and attentive mother. She enjoyed raising a garden, canning, baking, reading, dancing, crocheting rugs and afghans. Mrs. Peterson also had a love for antiques and enjoyed collecting them.

Her Norwegian baked goods were always a favorite. She had a twinkle in her eyes and made many happy memories for her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Peterson; her son, Wesley Peterson (Siri); her daughter, Margie Prokop (Ron); her grandchildren, Dirk (Alanna) Peterson, Andrea Peterson, Garrett, Logan, and Carson Prokop; and her great-grandson, Brendan Peterson. Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by her sons, Wayne and Arne Peterson; her parents; and brother, Harlan Gilbertson.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point on Friday, Feb., 4, 2005, at 3 p.m. Inurnment will follow at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
