Leo J. Germain, 81, of 615 Hillsdale, passed away February 20, 2003, at home following an extended illness.

Natalie Burgett
Natalie Marie Stenrude Burgett went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2003. She was born the oldest child of Idon and Clara Stenrude on October 16, 1910, in Flaxton, N.D. Her mother told her that the church bells were ringing the morning she was born.

Dominique R. Womble
Dominique Womble, 18, who was born March 4, 1984, in Salt Lake City, joined her grandparents in heaven on February 2, 2003.

Ronald N. Whitaker
Ronald Neal Whitaker, 32, of Helena, went to be with his father on January 31, 2003. He was born on August 16, 1970, in Anaconda to Marvin and Dortha Whitaker.

Gilbert R. Johnston
Gilbert R. Johnston, 81, died on January 10, 2003. He was born September 9, 1921, in Portland, Ohio, and was the third child of four.

Brady Jay Lawson
Brady Lawson died unexpectedly on Jan. 21, 2003, at the University of Washington Medical Center from complication from surgery. He was 22.

Our dear mother, aunt and friend, Ingrid Nelson (nee Gjersdal) left us suddenly on January 11, 2003.

John Lawrence Diehl, 72, died peacefully on January 11, 2003, at his home in Montana City, surrounded by his family and close friends. He had suffered a stroke on December 29 and died of complications.

Mathilda “Til” Hoving Schouten, beloved mother and grandmother, died Jan. 6, 2003. She was residing at the Broadwater Health Center in Townsend.

Kenneth M. Russell passed away Jan. 11, 2003, at home with his family, joining his loving wife Alice Russell and his son John Russell in heaven.

Dorothy Pratt
Dorothy Pratt, 86, a long-time resident of Mount Kisco, N.Y., died after a short illness at Northern Westchester Hospital on November 25, 2002. Born in New York City, she worked in the defense industry during WWII. She married, raised a family and worked locally as a legal secretary and for the editorial staff of Reader's Digest. A member of the "Greatest Generation," she was politically active and a community volunteer.

Bruce Pratt
Bruce Pratt, a resident of Patterson, N.Y., died unexpectedly at Northern Westchester Hospital on November 28, 2002. He was 54. Born in New York City, he grew up in Mount Kisco, N.Y., where he attended Fox Lane High School.

Edna J. Dallo
Edna Jane Dallo, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away on November 30, 2002. She lost her battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, a battle she fought hard and courageously.

Catherine M. Fryett
Catherine May Fryett of Helena, 83, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2002.

Cloycie E. Mann
Cloycie Mann, who died November 11, 2002, was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and leader. For 84 years, he was a blessing and hero to all who knew and loved him.

Charlotte Heath
Charlotte Hallin Heath died November 13, 2002, at St. Peter’s Hospital following an extensive illness. She was born in Livingston on January 26, 1916, to Richard and Selma Hallin and was raised on the ranch on Bracket Creek. She attended grade school and later graduated from Park County High School in Livingston. After high school, she went back to the ranch and married John Heath on July 2, 1938.

Georgia E. Stewart
After a full and productive life of 95 years, Georgia Elizabeth Stewart died on November 7, 2002, at St. Peter’s Hospital. She had lived at the Shelby House on Spokane Creek Ranch Road.

Jessie R. Martin
Jessie Robert Martin of Helena, 20, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, of injuries following an accident. He was born in Helena on Nov. 29, 1981, to Robin Lynn (Martin) Walton. He was currently attending Job Corps in Anaconda, studying welding and masonry.

Clarence Kessler
Clarence Kessler, 68, passed on to his new home on November 6, 2002. He was born June 20, 1934, in Orrin, N.D., to John and Mary Kessler, the eighth of 11 children. He remained in his hometown until he was 17, then went to work as a surveyor in the Florida Everglades. Several years later, he journeyed to Montana where he went to work as a meat cutter at Montana Meat.

Marcella M. Burke
Marcella Margaret Burke, 56, an indomitable spirit, inspirational educator, and heroic mother, passed away at her home on November 8, 2002, after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. Right up to the end, she maintained her faith, her smile, and her dedication to “live each day as a prayer.”

Joseph P. Pocha
Joseph P. Pocha, 90, of Augusta, passed away on October 28, 2002, doing what he enjoyed most–hunting. Joe was the last living child of 13 born to Eliza (Paul) and Charles T. Pocha. He was born Dec. 5, 1911, in the Dearborn area near Augusta.

Dale H. Brekke
Dale H. Brekke, 67, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Helena after a long battle with cancer.
He was born March 27, 1935, in Granville, N.D., to Daniel and Clarice Brekke. Dale served in the Marine Corp from 1953-1957. On April 19, 1958, he married Donna Mae Miller in Velva, N.D., and they resided in several locations in North Dakota and Montana. They moved to Helena in 1963.

Genevieve A. Zook
Genevieve A. Zook of Helena, 83, died of natural causes on October 14, 2002, at Big Sky Care Center.

Custer H. ‘Hap’ Quick
Custer Harrison "Hap" Quick of Helena, 86, formerly of Cody, Wyo., passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Big Sky Care Center. He was born June 2, 1916, and grew up on the family sheep ranch in the Oregon Basin south of Cody. The middle son of Stanley and Mara Cerilla (Fisher) Quick, who homesteaded Wyoming in the early 1900s, he earned the nickname "Hap" because of his pleasant disposition and great sense of humor.

Pauline ‘Polly’ Lacy
Pauline "Polly" Lacy of Helena, 90, passed away of natural causes at Rocky Mountain Care Center on Wednesday, October 23, 2002.

Walter S. “Howdy” Murfitt
On October 17, 2002, Walter Sam "Howdy" Murfitt, a loving and devoted husband, family man and friend, went to be with Jesus Christ. "Howdy" was born in Terry and graduated from Helena High School in 1948, the University of Montana in 1952, and from the UM Law School in 1957. He was admitted to practice before the Montana Supreme Court, the U.S. District Courts in Montana and Washington, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Laurel “Bud” Mantz
Laurel “Bud” Mantz, 86, formerly of Wilsall, died in Helena on Saturday, October 19, 2002. He was born to Gustav and Millie (Thom) Mantz on September 7, 1916, at Center, N.D. He married Anne Haag on November 11,1938. In early 1948, Anne and Bud moved with their two children, Jim and Dolly, to Wilsall, where they owned and operated a Texaco Service Station for 33 years. A third child, Sheila, was born after moving to Wilsall. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Anne died in 1994. Bud moved to Eagles Manor in Helena in 2000 to be near family.

James O. Green
James (Jim) Orville Green, 50, of Helena, died of natural causes at his residence on October 14, 2002. He was born January 2, 1952, in Cass Lake, Minn., to Orville and Flora Green. He later moved to Helena and graduated from Helena High School.
