Sheila Pattie
Sheila Pattie, 55, of Troy, died Oct. 28, 1998, at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
She was born Oct. 8, 1943, at Aberdeen, Wash., to Ray and Dorothy Parker Fowler. She attended schools at Aberdeen, Spokane and Troy.
Sheila was employed by the U.S. Forest Service at Troy for several years. She also worked at the Holiday Motel, Stein’s IGA and as a bus moniter for Troy Public Schools.
She attended the Lincoln County Campus of Flathead Valley Community College, receiving an associate of arts degree in 1997.
Sheila attended the United Methodist Church and assisted in the church child care program. She donated many hours to volunteer service at the Troy Museum and Troy Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed gardening, animals and the ocean and was an avid reader.
Sheila was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Survivors include son Stuart Pattie, Naples, Idaho; daughters Susan Pattie and Mary Schueller, both of St. Cloud, Minn.; sisters Betty Woolsey, Aberdeen, and Lorraine Fowler, Payallup, Wash.; brothers Bud Clark, Burley, Idaho, and Dick Fowler, Sequim, Wash., and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Troy and services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Ben Nardi officiating.
Committal services will take place on Friday at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

John Hartry
Former Libby resident John A. Hartry, 71, of Kalispell, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
He was born Oct. 1, 1927, at Hannah, N.D., to George and Christina Hartry.
As a small child he moved with his family to Culbertson, where he was raised and educated.
John served with the U.S. Army during World War II and following his honorable discharge in 1947, returned to Montana where he was employed at various places as a truck driver.
Johh came to Libby in 1967 to work on the Libby Dam Project, and later was employed as a woodsworker.
He married Joline Bakker Hoefert on March 1, 1969, at Libby. They moved back and forth between Libby and Kalispell for several years until moving to Kalispell permanently in 1989. John worked in maintenance at the Blue & White Motel until retiring.
An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and prospecting with his metal detector.
Survivors include his wife Joline of Kalispell; his children John Heims, Billings; Laura Hagar, Bozeman; Martin Hoefert, Yvonne Powell and Beth Scott, all of Kalispell; sister Thelma Larsen, Libby; brothers Floyd Hartry, Libby, and James Hartry, Kalispell; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a niece and a nephew.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel.

Jim Mahoney
Libby native James P. Mahoney, 76, of Spokane, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Holy Family Hospital.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1922, at Libby, the second of two children born to James and Julia Lynch Mahoney. Jim was preceded in death by his sister Mary A. Mahoney, a life-long Libby resident.
Jim attended Libby schools, graduating from Libby High School with the Class of 1941. While in high school he worked on the family ranch west of town.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 21, 1942, serving as an altitude chamber technician and airplane armorer and earning his AF Air Crew Member Wings. During World War II Jim participated in the China Offensive and in Air Combat Borneo earning the American Theatre Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. Jim was honorably discharged on Feb. 24, 1946.
In June 1950 Jim graduated from the Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane and in 1951 he married Dixie Trimble of Spokane.
Jim practiced law for several years, but for most of his career he was a support enforcement officer for the State of Washington.
Never a man for hobbies, Jim kept busy helping his family, fixing up or adding on to his house, his children’s houses, rental houses, and his sister’s house in Libby.
A committed family man, Jim was always ready to help others, and genuinely saw the best in other people. He and Dixie helped raise more than 50 foster children in addition to their own six children, Jim, Dan, Julie, Kathy, Colleen (deceased) and Peggy.
Survivors include his wife Dixie, Spokane; sons Jim Mahoney Jr., his wife Gail and their children Jimmy and Diane, Spokane, and Dan Mahoney and his wife Scooter, Spokane, and their daughter Sara, Denver; daughters Julie Magee, her husband John and their three children, Alicia, Sam and Meegan, all in Spokane; Kathleen Conley and her five children, Bridget, Colleen, Kate and Tricia in Spokane and Matthew, in Yakima; and Peggy Gleesing, her husband Jim and their children Tim and Annie, all in Yakima.
Services will be held at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Burial will follow at a later date in Libby.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Assisted Living, 1617 N. Calispel, Spokane 99205.

Borghild Judkins
Borghild L. Judkins, 90, of Libby, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1908, at Bagley, Minn., to August and Louise Dahl and moved with her family to Banks, N.D., where she was raised and educated.
Borghild married Jay F. Judkins on April 25, 1927, at Watford City, N.D.
She worked for many years in the restaurant business, as a cook, and owning and operating a truck stop, later working at Mabel’s Cafe.
Her husband Jay preceded her in death in 1955.
Borgild came to Libby in 1962, again working in the restaurant business, at Libby Cafe, Husky Cafe and Jack’s Zip-In, until retiring. She had since continued to live in Libby with her son Charles.
She is remembered as an excellent cook who enjoyed baking, raising a graden and canning vegetables and fruits. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
Borghild was also preceded in death by son Duane, grandsons Robert Judkins and Stony Clinton, and sister Enga Schultz.
Survivors include daughters Barbara Arthaud and her husband Bob, Dickinson, N.D.; Eileen Felland, Sandpoint, Idaho, and Elaine Laasch and her husband Virgil, Cut Bank; sons Leslie (Les) Judkins and his wife Maybelle, Bridger; James (Jim) Judkins and Charles Judkins, both of Libby, and Jack Judkins and his wife Wilma, Troy; sister Olga Howard, White Bear Lake, Minn.; 26 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:30-8 p.m. tuesday and until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church with Pastor Paul Wheeler and Pastor Raymond Bache officiating.
Interment will follow in the City of Libby Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Libby Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 777, Libby 59923.

Janet Siegel
Janet B. Siegel, 60, of Libby, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane.
She was born at Fort Peck on Feb. 21, 1938, to Dean and Ada Baird.
In 1949 the family moved to Plains where Janet attended school, graduating from Plains High School in 1956.
She worked for the Majestic Candy Company in Missoula, and later worked as a clerk at St. Patrick Hospital and for Central Ambulance and Answering Service.
Janet came to Libby in 1976, working in the Clerk and Recorder’s office and later serving for several years as Lincoln County Clerk and Recorder.
She later worked in the supervisor’s office of the U.S. Forest Service, until retirement.
Janet is remembered for her friendly helpfulness and for her courageous battle against critical illness.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her mother, Ada Qualey, Libby; brother Larry Daird, Evans, Ga., and step-mother Emma Baird, Plains.
Private arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to ‘‘Wings,’’ 310 Sunnyview Lane, Kalispell, 59901, or to the American Cancer Society.

Joy Marcum Orsborn
Joy D. Marcum Orsborn, wife of former Libby resident Ray A. Orsborn, died Nov. 29, 1998, at Proctorville, Ohio.
Surviving, in addition to her husband Ray in Proctorville, are son Glen Marcum, Huntington, W. Va.; brothers Ray Webb, McRoberts, Ky.; J.D. Webb, Louisa, Ky., and James Fred Webb, Proctorville; sisters Della Mae Gartin, Louisa, and Elizabeth Cote, Libby, and nieces, nephews and friends.
Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Huntington.
