Margo Irwin
Margo Irwin, 55, of Libby, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Brendan House in Kalispell.
She was born on March 26, 1945, at Eldora, Iowa, to Royce Gilbertson and Helene Witherspoon Gilbertson.
Margo came to Libby with her family and attended Libby schools.
She married Jim Irwin on Jan. 25, 1963 and they remained in Libby where they raised their family. Margo assisted her husband in the operation of Irwin Logging.
Margo participated in League Bowling and enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents and an infant son.
Survivors include her husband Jim, Libby; sons Scott Irwin, U.S. Air Force, stationed in Virginia, and Kevin Irwin and his wife Heather, Seattle; her father Royce Gilbertson, Libby; step-father Forest Gilcrist, Tumwater, Wash.; sisters Rene Stapley, Troy; Sue Chance, Las Vegas, N.M; Gail Price, Missoula and Joan Olson, Sidney, and grandchildren Dustin and Amy.
Services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation took place from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Libby Volunteer Ambulance or the Libby Volunteer Fire Department.

Charles Martin
Charles J. Martin Jr., 84, who grew up in Libby, died on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Mead, Wash.
He was born on May 12, 1916, at Ogden, Utah, to Dr. Charles J. and Blanche E. (Race) Martin, and moved with his family from Driggs, Idaho to Libby in 1925.
Chuck attended Libby schools and graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1933. An outstanding athlete, Chuck played on the Libby Terrier championship football team in 1932. In recent years he returned to Libby with other members of that team and their coach George Vogt, to inspire Libby High School athletes.
Chuck attended Wentworth Military Academy for a year and then transferred to the University of Washington at Seattle, where he met and married Kathryn Kearns. They had two children and their marriage ended in divorce.
After graduating from the University of Montana at Missoula in 1939, Chuck coached for a year at Stevensville in Montana before beginning a 10-year career as high school football coach and teacher at Pilot Rock and Prineville, Ore.
Chuck served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
In 1952 he moved to the Portland area, where he was associated with Farmers Insurance for many years, traveling extensively and working for the company in various capacities.
He retired in 1978, married Carrie Schmeltzer, and moved to the Spokane area.
Chuck was a member of the Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife Hazel, son Bill, daughter Sue and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife Carrie, Mead; son Gerald Martin and his wife Tina, Portland, Ore.; brothers D.R. (Bill) Martin and his wife Pat, Kalispell; and Harold Martin and his wife Jennie, Salem, Ore.; sisters Elizabeth Arsers, San Antonio, Texas, Helen Turbyne and her husband George, Eugene, Ore., and Lenore (Tiny) and her husband Bill Seims, Yuba City, Calif., six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Cremation took place under direction of the Neptune Society of Washington.
A gathering in memory of Chuck will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Martin Cabin on Lavon Lake in the Happy’s Inn area.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Food Bank.

Evaline Williams
Evaline M. Willliams, 90, a lifetime Libby resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on July 11, 1910, at Libby, to Peter and Sarah Barr Detjens.
Evaline grew up in Libby, attended Libby schools and married Fred G. Williams on Nov. 14, 1930, at Libby.
They lived all their lives in the Libby area, residing at Raven and Upper Ford ranger stations for long periods of time before moving back into Libby.
Along with her husband, Evaline enjoyed the Montana outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. She particularly enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1995, and was also preceded in death by daughter Irene Hutchison in 1998, brother Paul (Pete) Detjens and sister Dee Allen.
Survivors include daughter Viona Lamey and her husband Bill, Libby; grandsons Don Thomson, Spokane, and Kirk Jaynes, Libby; granddaughter Kelli Jaynes, Libby, six great-grandchildren, sister Ruth Person, Libby, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darwin Scofield officiating.
Interment will follow in the City of Libby Cemetery.

Velta McAllister
Longtime Libby resident Velta S. McAllister. 84, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1916, at Sandpoint, Idaho, to John and Julia Owen Edwards.
Velta grew up and attended school at Trego and graduated from the eighth grade in Eureka.
She worked all her life as a caregiver.
Velta married Sam McAllister on April 25, 1938 in Kalispell. They lived in Eureka until moving to Libby in 1941.
Velta enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, June Tholen, her parents and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband Sam of Libby; daughters Evelyn McAllister, Spokane, and Judy McAllister and Carol McAllister, both of Libby; a brother Melvin Edwards, Libby; four sisters Violet Malicot, Libby, Vivian Wiyrick, Iva Schmidt and Fedalma Evans, all of Spokane; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Libby Christian Church.
Local arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Janiece Orr
Janiece Rae Orr, 55, of Troy, died on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at her home, following a long battle with cancer.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1945, at Libby, to Ray and Ellen Trustee Cole.
She grew up on Bull Lake and attended Troy schools.
Janiece married David Orr on March 16, 1978, and faithfully followed wherever he wandered.
They returned to Troy in 1989 and purchased the King Ranch.
Janiece enjoyed running the ranch and hosting holiday dinners there. She enjoyed riding her horse in the woods, spending time outdoors, photography, gardening and playing the drums.
Her family always came first and she enjoyed being a grandmother.
Janiece bowled for more than 30 years and was a Top Five bowler every year.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband David, Troy; son Curtis Oldes and his wife Gloria, Troy; daughters Melody Schrader and her husband Steve, Kalispell, and Dusty Maggi and her husband Matt, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; sisters Darlene Lee, Clarkston, Wash.; Jeannie Osborn and her husband Ozzie, Bonners Ferry; Bernice Curtiss, Phoenix, Ariz; Rayetta Cole, Bonners Ferry, and Gloria Patricia Cunnington and her husband Nile, Troy, and five grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Troy Christian Fellowship Church, with burial in the Milnor Lake Cemetery.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
