Delfrances Rice
Delfrances Dorothy Rice, 83, of Roundup, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on July 30, 1918, at Saint Joseph, Mo., to Willets and Evelyn Graham Kress.
She attended school at Roundup, graduating from Roundup High School in 1936.
After graduation she worked as a waitress.
She married Burl Rice at Roundup in 1948. Delfrances worked as a nurses aide at the Roundup Memorial Hospital.
She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include four daughters, Juanita Rice, Libby; Saundra Rux, Boulder; Linda Thompson and her husband Robert, Billings, and Donna Odell and her husband Steve, Spokane; son James Shope and his wife Carol, Helena, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at a later date at Roundup. Local arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby.

Larry Allen
Larren Lee (Larry) Allen, 50, of Libby, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
He was born on March 14, 1951, at Fort Bragg, N.C., to Hardy and Martha Allen.
Larry lived in California for many years before moving to Libby recently.
He served with the U.S. Army.
Preceded in death by his father, he is survived by his daughter Michelle in New Jersey; his mother Martha Allen, El Dorado, Calif.; sister Monelle Kanc, Libby, and brother Pierre Allen, El Dorado.
Services and interment will be at Placerville, Calif.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Nathan Hays
Libby native Nathan Paul Hays, 21, a sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in the service of his country over Pakistan on Jan. 9, 2002.
The second of Jim and Kim Hays’ three children, Nathan was born at Libby on Dec. 14, 1980.
Although he moved from Libby with his family, he maintained close ties with family members in the area.
He will be remembered as “a young man of strength and courage, a love of life, an air of mischief and a 500-watt grin.”
Survivors include his parents, brother Patrick, sister Kassi and grandparents Gayle and Jeanne Hays, all of Spokane, grandmother Glen Kelley, Libby, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the northwest.
Nathan was preceded in death by his grandfather Earl Grotjohn of Libby.
A memorial service was conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Spokane.
The national memorial service for Marines on board the KC-130 will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at their home base at the Naval Air Station, Miramar, Calif.
Memorial contributions may be made in Nathan’s name to USMC Toys for Tots, 5101 N. Assembly, Spokane, WA 99205; Boy Scouts of America, Troop No. 779, Williams Road E., Wilbur, WA 99185, or in care of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, Spokane, WA 99208.

Nell Prather
Former Libby resident Nell Rose Prather, 76, died Jan. 11, 2002, at Mission Hills, Calif.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1925, in Kansas and married William (Bill) Prather on Jan. 9, 1946, at Oklahoma City, Okla.
They lived for many years in California where Nell worked as an executive secretary.
They moved to Libby in 1989.
Preceded in death by her husband Bill who died at Libby in July 2001, Nell is survived by daughter Kathryn Branch, son Gary Prather, brother Robert Vick and grandchildren Brodie, Sean and Erin.
A memorial graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Local arrangements are under direction of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Burl Grigg
Burl J. Grigg, 76, formerly of Troy, died Jan. 5, 2002, at his home in Ellensburg.
He was born on March 21, 1925, at Troy, to Jesse and Catherine Franklin Grigg.
He was a service veteran with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and a proud American, who would gladly tell you so.
Burl moved to Ellensburg in 1951 to attend Central Washington State College.
He married Daisy Smith-Quicksall in March 1956 and they had a son Allan.
Daisy died in 1972.
Burl had worked and lived in Ellensburg, Troy and The Dalles, Ore., before returning to Ellensburg.
Survivors include his son Allan and granddaughters Heather and Jessica Grigg, all of Ellensburg, and step-children Bob Quicksall in Germany and Lorena Quicksall Larrigan, Judy Quicksall Sny and Kay Quicksall Pierce, all of Ellensburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Sarah Grigg Cripe, Alwilda Grigg Wegar and Pearl Grigg Ayers.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Steward and Williams Chapel in Ellensburg.
Arrangements are under direction of Steward and Williams/Cascade Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Arnold Hansen
Longtime Lincoln County resident Arnold J. Hansen, 82, died Jan. 5, 2002, at the Montana Veterans’ Home in Columbia Falls.
He was born on April 21, 1919, at Fortine, to Herman and Alvhild Peterson Hansen. He grew up at Libby and Fortine, graduating from Libby High School with the Class of 1937.
Arnold served aboard the USS Grayson with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He married Helen Franklin in April 1945.
Arnold worked for the Great Northern Railroad and Burlington Northern until he retired.
He spent many happy hours fishing, working in the garden and playing cribbage.
For the past two years Arnold lived at the Montana Veterans’ Home where he received excellent care and special treatment.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in July 1998, and by brother Robert Hansen.
Survivors include four children, Butch Hansen and his wife Jeannette, Fairbanks, Alaska; Chuck Hansen and his wife Sue, Unionville, Tenn.; Vicky Miller and her daughter Ashley, Marshfield, Mo., and Mickey Hansen, Kalispell; sister Haldis Fischer, Fresno, Calif., brother Hilmar Hansen, Libby, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Fortine Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Luella Henthorn
Luella C. Henthorn, 84, of Spokane, died Dec. 30, 2001, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on March 27, 1917, at Lambert to Roy and Ida May Clark. She had five sister and two brothers.
A wonderful mother and grandmother, Luella will be remembered for her generosity and kindness to others.
Survivors include her four children, Barbara Pariseau and her husband Wilbert, Libby; Ron Henthorn, Spokane; Mary Bursell and her husband Myron, Libby, and Bert Henthorn and his wife Joyce, Spokane and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Visitation was from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Local arrangements are by the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
