Darrell Cady
Darrell D. Cady, 60, of Libby died on June 30, 2003, at Kalispell.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1942, at Chester, to Charles and Helen Baxendale Cady.
Darrell received his early education at Havre and started high school at Inverness.
He quit school to work on the family farm north of Joplin
Darrell married Helen Aaberge at Shelby on June 27, 1970.
He worked in law enforcement for several years and later worked in construction until retiring.
Darrell loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and constructing knives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ramona.
Survivors include Helen, his wife of 33 years, at Libby; children Melissa Cady-Peterson and her husband Michael, Homer, Alaska; sister Elvina Tempel, Joplin, brothers William Cady, Libby, and Stanley Cady, Silver Springs, Nev.; two grandchildren, Jared Michael and Caitlin Lynn Peterson, Homer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be conducted. Buffalo Hill Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Rod Smith
Rodney R. Smith, 54, died June 27, 2003, at his home in Libby.
He was born on July 25, 1948, at Libby, to Calvin (KO, and Dolores (Winnie) Ritzman Smith.
Raised and educated at Libby, Rod worked as a logger, mostly as a hooker, for many years in the Libby area. He later worked on oil rigs in the Williston Basin area of North Dakota, before returning to Libby, where he again worked as a logger.
He was a member of E Clampus Vitus Chapter 7-11 in Paradise, Calif,.
Ron was preceded in death by his brother Wade Smith.
Survivors include his wife Thelma Smith, Libby; daughter Michelle Ryan, Vancouver, Wash.; son Rod (Buddy) Smith, Longview, Wash.; parents KO and Winnie Smith, Libby; sister Renee Moen, Libby; aunt Hope Parker, Libby; step-children Kara Olson, Nickole Belanger and James Van Horn, all of Libby, and Tracy Stewart in Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, at the Libby Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home which is in charge of local arrangements.

Jacob Walter
Jacob L. Walter, 80, of Troy, died Sept. 26, 2000, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1920, in Rising City, Neb., to Lloyd and Helen Walter.
Jake grew up in Bayard, Neb., where he attended school.
During World War II he worked at the Convair Aircraft factory in San Diego. He married Theresa Giraud on April 17, 1943, in San Diego and they lived in various places before moving to Kalispell in 1955.
Jake worked as a heavy equipment operator in the Flathead area and after he retired enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Theresa; daughter Rena Morton; brother Bill and his wife Nyla, Snohomish, Wash.; sister Beth Lamb and her husband Jim, Oceanside, Calif.; grandchildren Theresa and Jacob, Newport, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation and private burial services have taken place.
Memorials may be sent to Troy Volunteer Fire Department.

Earl R. Burns
Earl R. Burns, 75, longtime Troy businessman, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at St. John's Lutheran Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 6, 1923, at Whitefish, to John H. and Elizabeth Retallick Burns and moved to Troy as a child. Earl was raised and educated at Troy, attended Troy schools and graduated from Troy High School with the Class of 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with the 396th Field Artillary Battalion in Central Europe, participating in the liberation of Czechoslovakia.
Following his honorable discharge, Earl returned to Troy. He married June Sanders on Sept. 2, 1945, at the Sanders family ranch on Iron Creek, near Troy. Earl and June built their own home in Troy, where they raised their family. Earl worked for Walter Morrison at the Troy Trading Company and later worked for 15 years as a gypo logger in the Troy area.
Earl and June purchased the Husky bulk plant at Troy in 1978 and opened the Husky Service Station, operating both until they retired in 1989.
Always active in community affairs, Earl was an organizer and board member of NEED, an organization addressing financial and economic concerns of the community and an advocate of multiple use in regard to conservation of forest lands.
A Republican, Earl was active in local politics. He ran for the office of state legislator, receiving 49 percent of the vote, considered an unusual accomplishment for a Republican in the political climate in Lincoln County in 1982.
Earl was a retired member of the Troy Volunteer Fire Department, past president of the Troy Lions Club and a longtime participant in the Boy Scouts of America program, serving both as a leader and a troop committeeman.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities, as chairman of the board of trustees and the pastor-parish relationship committee and a member of the finance committee.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, June, of Troy; sons Jeff Burns and his wife Karen, Fox Island, Wash., and Mark Burns of Troy; daughters Marianne Robison and her husband Ray, Medford, Ore., and Marcia Liske and her husband Warren, Sunnyvale, Calif.; brother John Burns of Seattle, and four grandchildren, Ian, Dorian, Trevor and Clair.
He was preceded in death by son Jim in 1977, his parents, a brother Donald and sister Hellen.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Troy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Nardi officiating. Memorials may be made to the Troy Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 641, Troy, 59935, or to the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 478, Troy.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Don J. Mercer
Don J. Mercer, 53, of Libby, died on Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at Libby.
He was born May 19, 1944, at Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Eugene A. and Ruby I. Kestler Mercer.
Raised and educated in Bonners Ferry, he graduated from high school there in 1963.
Don was a golden glove champion in 1960.
He began working as a lumber grader for J. Neils Lumber Company in 1963 and continued to work for St. Regis and Champion International until 1994.
For the past three years he was employed as a janitor at Asa Wood School.
He married Margie Casey in 1964 and Linda Carr in 1977.
Survivors include son Matthew Mercer, Kent, Wash.; daughters Deanna Purdy, Fort Collins, Colo., and Shannon Hull, Kirkland, Wash.; brother Gary Mercer and his wife Janet, Castle Rock, Wash.; sisters Dori Baker and her husband Gene, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Judy Conrad and her husband Dennis of South Dakota; grandchildren Justin and Megan Purdy, Fort Collins, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. at Nelson & Vial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Whitford officiating.

Steve Lee
Steven Paul Lee, 39, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, died at his home on Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998.
He was born Feb. 4, 1958, at Libby, where he grew up, attended Libby schools, and graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1976.
Steve attended North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene and worked for several years as a surveyor in the Denver area.
He was a superintendent in construction for Shea Construction Company in Spokane and moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1988. Most recently he was employed as superintendent on the Kootenai Medical Center project for Polin Construction.
An avid baseball player and golfer, Steve also enjoyed snow boarding and bird hunting. His greatest love was for his children and he enjoyed spending time with them on the ski slopes or on Coeur d'Alene Lake.
Survivors include his children, Jessica, Gina, Tony and Ashley; parents James R. and Susan LeDuc Lee, Post Falls, Idaho; brothers Ralph and his wife Laurie Risley Carr, Coconut Creek, Fla., and Brian and his wife Marianne Lee, Fort Knox, Ky.; sisters Cindy and her husband Bob Carlson, Butte; Teri and her husband Chris Noble, Libby; and Martha and her husband Bob Scott, Butte, and his dearest friend, Heather Rebal, Coeur d'Alene.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Steven Lee, Johnny LeBrun Cruz, Mikael Carlson, Jim Rowland, Darin Rowland, Kelly and Tracy Salvhus, Dara, Taylor and Mattie Scott and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and extended family members.
Steve was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Rick Salvhus, and an uncle, Jess Lee.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Christ Lutheran Church with Father Robert Hasseries and Al Ingebritsen officiating.
Burial in the City of Libby Cemetery will be followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Wishing Star Foundation, 915 W. 2nd., Suite 3, Spokane, WA 99204 or the American Cancer Society, 3710 W. Fairway Drive, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
