Laura Endicott
Longtime Libby resident Laura C. Endicott, 86, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 21, 2001, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital after an eight-month illness.
She was born on March 26, 1915, at Kalispell, to Valjean and Charlotte Riley.
Laura grew up in Libby, graduating from Libby High School with the Class of 1932.
She continued her education at Kinman Business College in Spokane.
She married Kenneth F. Endicott of Spokane on Aug. 28, 1936, at Kalispell. Laura and Ken celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last summer.
The Endicotts moved from Seattle to Spokane on Labor Day 1944 to operate the Libby Creamery.
After the creamery closed in 1957 Laura worked as office manager and bookkeeper at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1977.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ken on Oct. 21, 2001.
Laura was a 55-year member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, serving her church and her community in many different capacities. She was one of the founders of the Libby Food Pantry and served as treasurer for many years. She also belonged to the Lincoln County Republican Club, the Libby Women’s Club and St. John’s Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary.
Laura is survived by three children, daughter Valerie Crabtree and her husband Dean, Libby; son Steven Endicott and his wife Ruth Ann (Abbie), Bothell, Wash., and daughter Kathleen Verboncoeur and her husband Gary, LaPine, Ore.; eight grandchildren, Darin Crabtree, Seattle; Deanna Crabtree, Spokane; Jonathan Endicott, Clovis, Calif., Joel Endicott, Lake Forest, Calif, Julia Palmer, Temple City, Calif., Ken Verboncoeur, Murray, Utah, Victor Verboncoeur, Peru, Ind., and Camille Verboncoeur, Boise, Idaho.
She is also survived by sisters Betty Stockard, Bothell, Wash., and Phyllis Lupo, Helena, brothers Donald Riley, Boise, and Richard Riley, Kalispell; and nine great-grandchildren, Madylin, Riley, Rayna, Roman, Brenna, Benjamin, Paige, Emily and Claire.
Burial took place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in the family plot at Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell under direction of Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Libby with the Rev. Donald Belcher officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 215 Poplar St., or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mildred Maken
Mildred Mae Maken, 82, of Libby, died on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1919, at Bridger, to Lonzo Everett and Josie Ray Tindel.
Mildred grew up on the family farm and attended school at Bridger. The family moved to Somers in 1938.
She married Logan Earnest Bostic on Sept. 30, 1943, and they lived at Somers and Kalispell.
Mildred worked at the Flathead County Nursing Home.
Logan died on Feb. 25, 1965, and on Oct. 19, 1965, Mildred married Earl E. Maken at Sandpoint, Idaho. He died on July 31, 1980.
Mildred lived in Libby and moved to the Libby Care Center in June 2000.
She was also preceded in death by brother Christopher Morgan Tindel in 1932.
She is survived by daughter Eileen Vinion and her husband Mike of Libby and grandson Cory Vinion.
Private family services will be conducted.
Arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Arthur Patenaude
Arthur D. Patenaude, 65, of Troy, died Nov. 21, 2001, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1936, at Montaque City, Mass., to Arthur and Laura Patenaude, and was raised and educated at Manchester, N.H.
A building contractor for most of his life, Arthur lived in many locations throughout the states, including Texas and Washington.
He moved to Montana in 1978, living first in Missoula before moving to Troy. He enjoyed the Montana outdoors, especially when fishing or getting firewood accompanied by his faithful dog Bobby.
Survivors include his wife Joyce; his children Joe, Rick, Reggie, Walter, Debbie, DuWana, Michael and Renee Patenaude; step-children Archie, Bill and Glenda Brady; one sister, two brothers and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Brian.
Private service arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
Memorials in Arthur’s memory may be made to Troy Ambulance, Box 641, Troy.

Flora Kensler
Flora M. Kensler, 76, a longtime Troy resident, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.
She was born on June 16, 1925, at Whitefish, to John Sagen and Irene McFarland Sagen.
Flora lived in Whitefish until she was 12 and her father’s job brought the family to Troy, where she completed her education, graduating from Troy High School with the Class of 1943.
She attended Montana State University at Missoula where she was active in drama, creative writing and the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
One of her series of short stories was written for her children in the 1950’s and is read by them and their children at Christmas time.
Flora married Roger M. Kensler on April 8, 1946, at the home of her parents.
Following their marriage she assisted in the operation of the family grocery store and after her children were born she became involved with their activities. She taught Sunday School and was active with the Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs.
She enjoyed singing in the Methodist Church choir and in barbershop quartets. A founding member of the Takima Club, Flora was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in the work of the United Methodist Women. Her handmade Barbie doll clothes were popular at the annual church bazaar.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and a favorite destination was Hawaii.
Flora was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, brother-in-law Howard Johnson and niece Karen Johnson Wilder.
Survivors include her husband Roger, Troy; her children Gwenn Kensler, Troy; Ward Kensler, Lynnwood, Wash., and Andrea Kensler Chiaverini and her husband Frank, Troy; sisters LaNor Johnson, Puyallup, Wash., and Ann Kensler and her husband Jerry, Troy; grandsons Angelo Stephan and Dominic Django Chiaverini; nieces Shelly Kensler and her husband Karl DeRuwe and their son Adam; Pam Kensler and her son Jerry Lee, all of Othello, Wash.; nephew Darrell Johnson and his wife Susan and their children Kylie and Andrew, Puyallup.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Troy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Nardi officiating. Interment will follow at Troy Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 2471, Spokane, WA 99210, or St. John’s Lutheran Hospital, 350 Louisiana Ave., Libby.
Arrangements are under care of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.

Iva Dawson
Iva E. Dawson, 87, who grew up in Libby and graduated from Libby High School, died Nov. 19, 2001, in Summerview Manor in Yakima, Wash.
She was born on April 30, 1914, at St. Vincent, Minn., to Ernest and Margaret Munro Woodruff.
Iva’s mother died when she was very young and she was raised with love by her step-mother, Clara Woodruff.
Iva married Hawley (Hal) Dawson, linotype operator at The Western News, on March 30, 1934, at Libby.
A resident of the Yakima Valley for more than 54 years, Iva was a member of the Yakima Valley Society of Artists and the Yakima Chapter of the American Guild Organists.
She and her husband attended the First Baptist Church.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband Hal Dawson, sisters Fern Parker and Waneta Switzer and brother Ed Woodruff.
Survivors include her son Rodney Dawson, Portland, Ore.; daughter Judith and her husband Delbert Treat, Yakima, Wash.; granddaughters Lauri Treat, Portland, and Shelley and her husband Greg Brown, Phoenix, Ariz.
At her request there were no formal services. Her ashes were interred with her husband in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
Keith & Keith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
