Darlene Brodhead

KALISPELL - Darlene Brodhead, 61, of Hungry Horse died Monday, Dec. 29, at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Hungry Horse; daughter, Cindy Miller of Riddle, Ore.; five brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral is at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls. Burial follows at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at mortuary.

Arrangements are by the Columbia Mortuary of Columbia Falls.

James E. 'Jim' Brook

BIG SKY - James E. "Jim" Brook, 61, beloved husband and father, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 23, of a heart attack at Big Sky.

He was born on June 2, 1936, in Whitehall.

Following high school, he joined the Navy. He was a member of the Navy's construction battalion.

Jim worked 43 years in the construction industry. He oversaw completion of thousands of bridges during his career and received numerous honors and awards for his work, including a bridge named after him.

Jim will be remembered for his honesty, integrity and great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Brook of Great Falls; his sons, Pat Brook and wife, Tammy, of Missoula, Michael Brook and his wife, Sandy, of Billings; daughters, Darlene Mitchell and her husband, Rick, of Hardin, and Shelley DeMaree of Billings; his stepsons, Frosty Buck of Columbia Falls and Lowell Buck of Alaska; 11 grandchildren; and many other family and close friends.

Memorial services have taken place, under the direction of the O'Connor Memorial Chapel in Great Falls, with the Rev. Gary Hart officiating.

Margaret Lucy Hennessy

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y.- Margaret Hennessy passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, at her home in Saranac Lake.

She attended local schools, graduating in 1938 from the University of Montana. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority. After graduation, she attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial College and worked in Chicago and later in New York City, where she was personnel director at Macy's Department Store.

In 1952, she married Richard Hennessy at St. Francis Xavier Church in Missoula and has lived in Saranac Lake since.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; cousins Katherine Lucy and Jeremy Thane of Missoula; and many second cousins.

Cynthia Joyce Davis Jordan

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - Cynthia Joyce Davis Jordan, 45, of St. George died of cancer Sunday, Dec. 28.

She was born, raised and educated in Hamilton, graduating from Hamilton High School in 1970.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Kester of Hamilton; father and stepmother, Earl and Dena Davis of St. George; three sisters, Katherine Hart of Kaysville, Utah, Velvet Stough of Buckley, Wash., and Rheann Kester of Hamilton; a brother, Michael Kester of Hamilton; grandmother, Agnes Deffenbaugh of Hamilton; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and her longtime companion, Douglas Kieger of St. George.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. Interment follows at the Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.

Arrangements are by the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Frank Royal Simkins

ST. REGIS - Frank Royal Simkins died Monday, Dec. 22.

He was born in Leeds, S.D., to Frank and Margaret Simkins on June 17, 1905. He was married to Pearl Dahl on Dec. 28, 1931. Frank worked in civil service during World War II. He also worked as a miner, carpenter and machinist. After retirement, he ran a machine repair shop in St. Regis, where he had lived since 1952.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a granddaughter.

He had seven children, Margaret, Robert, Eugene, Vera, Virginia, Frank and Thomas; 28 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren;and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.

Lee A. Glenn

MISSOULA - Lee A. Glenn, 86, of Missoula died of natural causes Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Hillside Manor Care Center.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the First Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are by the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Sunset Chapel.

Dianna M. Munson

MISSOULA - Dianna M. Munson, 50, of Lolo died Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Patrick Hospital after a lengthy illness with cancer.

She was born Dec. 18, 1947, in Missoula to Val and Frances Senn. Dianna attended schools in Missoula and married Robert Munson on Aug. 9, 1970.

She was employed as a housekeeper at St. Patrick Hospital and at the University of Montana.

Her father preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Robert Munson of Lolo; a son, Christopher Munson, and her mother, Frances Senn, both of Missoula; a brother, Ronald Senn, and two nephews and a niece, all of Beaverton, Ore.

At Mrs. Munson's request, no services are planned. Cremation has taken place.

Because of her love for animals, the family requests that contributions be made in her name to the Missoula Humane Society, 1105 Clark Fork Drive, Missoula, Mont. 59802.

Arrangements are under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

Margaret J. 'Peg' Wagner

MISSOULA - Margaret J. "Peg" Wagner, rejoined her husband, Bill, with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at St. Patrick's Hospital surrounded by her six children.

Peg was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Scobey, to John B. and Margaret A. Kemp. She grew up on the family farm which was homesteaded by her father.

She attended St. Catherine College in St. Paul, Minn., and graduated from the University of Montana in 1940 at age 20 with a degree in business administration. She met her future husband, Bill Wagner, at the Grizzly-Bobcat football game in Butte. Their first date was attending Mass together. They were married Sept. 2, 1939, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Missoula.

After Bill's death in 1963, Peg took over management of Wagner's Home Furnishings and continued to raise and educate their six children. She successfully operated the store until her retirement in 1984. She was recognized and honored as one of Missoula's pioneer businesswomen. She was active in St. Anthony's Parish, Cenacle Prayer Group, Soroptomist Club, Republican Women's Club and Pachyderm Club, and was supportive of many charitable organizations in this community.

Peg is survived by her six children and their spouses, John and Joan Wagner of Missoula, Betty and Greg Jasperson of Missoula, Janice Lopach of Missoula, Toni and Frank Kolendich of Billings, Bill and Sherri Wagner of Missoula and Mike and Margaret Wagner, also of Missoula. She is also survived by her brothers, John B. Kemp of Prairie Village, Kan., and Robert W. Kemp of Williston, N.D., and her sisters, Dorothy K.D. Boos and Doris Moreno of Missoula, 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, at the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Livingston Chapel, 224 W. Spruce St. in Missoula. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Tremont and Woodford streets. Burial will take place at Old St. Mary's Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Peg's granddaughters and grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, Peg and her family have requested memorials be made to the Poverello Center, Missoula Food Bank, Camp Mak-A-Dream or the Chalice of Repose, in care of St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

Arrangements are by the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Livingston Chapel, 224 W. Spruce St.

Angelic 'Angie' Finley Matt

MISSOULA - Angelic "Angie" Finley Matt, 72, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

Angie was born Christmas Eve 1925 to Camille and Mary Agnes (Nose) Finley. Raised in St. Ignatius, she left the Urselines at a young age and married Wilfred Matt.

She and her husband lived throughout the Northwest before returning to the Flathead Reservation where her husband worked as a carpenter for the BIA at Dixon. Angie was a dedicated homemaker and was teaching culture at Salish Kootenai College.

Angie did a lot of beautiful beading and taught others how to bead. She loved to dance, traditional and jump dancing. In her younger years, she was a trick rider. Angie tried to attend all the powwows and wakes she could. Angie loved people and people loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred, in 1979 and four children she lost in infancy.

She is survived by a special companion, Jim Whitworth of Pablo; sons, Camille Matt of Pablo, Russell and Linda Matt of Pablo; daughters, Rose Gardipe of Evaro and Louise Antoinette Matt of Dawson, N.D.; brother and sister-in-law, Octave and Edna Finley of Pablo; grandchildren, Juanita Swaney, Roian Matt and Jason Matt; great-grandsons, Dakota Wind Paul and Lisha Winter Matt.

Traditional wake services begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at the Salish Longhouse in St. Ignatius. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the longhouse. Wake closing will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the longhouse. Mass of the Resurrection is at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church with the Rev. Gus Schmidt, S.J., as celebrant. Interment follows at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.

The Mission Valley Funeral Chapel of St. Ignatius is in charge of arrangements.

Alfred E. Gerdts

DEER LODGE - Alfred E. Gerdts, 85, of Garrison died Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Powell County Memorial Hospital in Deer Lodge.

He was born April 19, 1912, in Bremervorde, Germany, to Karl and Katharina Gerdts.

He moved to Garrison with his parents in 1913, and received his education in Garrison and Missoula. In his early years he worked for the West Side Dairy delivering milk. From 1938 to 1955, he worked as an engineer watchman for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He then worked for Cominco American Phosphate Mine through 1974. He then retired. His hobbies included gardening, storytelling and writing his memoirs, as well as the history of Garrison. He also enjoyed bowling, card games and carpentry. He was married to Dorothy Baggar April 30, 1940, in Philipsburg. She preceded him in death after 55 years of marriage in 1995.

Survivors include son, Jack and wife, Linda Gerdts of St. Ignatius; daughter, Carol Gerdts of Spokane; son, Bill and wife, Cheryl Gerdts of Renton, Wash.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Ed Gerdts of Santa Maria, Calf.; sisters, Deanie Jensen and Edna Bouvier of Deer Lodge.

Memorial services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Jewell Funeral Home in Deer Lodge. Burial of the ashes follows at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family at a reception immediately following at the Garrison School Gym.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Powell County or Powell County Memorial Hospital.

Lee A. Glenn

MISSOULA - Lee A. Glenn, 86, of Missoula died Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Hillside Manor Care Center of natural causes.

Lee was born Jan. 2, 1911, in Nebraska to Chester and Jessie Glenn. He came to the Bitterroot with his family at an early age. He graduated from Corvallis High School.

Lee was married to Lydia Roth in 1939.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Senior Citizens and held a life membership with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Ways.

Lee retired in 1976 from Burlington Northern, when his health failed, after 30 years he "hung it up."

Survivors include his wife, Lydia of the family home; son, Larry; daughter, Gladys; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Virginia Baird of Redding, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private family interment will be Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Schultz officiating.

Cremation arrangements are by the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Sunset Chapel, 7405 Mullan Road.
