Anna Neigh Pedersen

RONAN - Anna Neigh Pedersen, 88, of Ronan, passed away at the St. Luke Extended Care Facility of natural causes on Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.

She was born Nov. 30, 1909, in Sterling, Colo., to Roy and Fannie Neigh. Anna moved to Lakeside in 1917 and graduated from Kalispell High School.

On Nov. 16, 1936, she married Peder C. "Pete" Pedersen in Kalispell. She and Pete lived for a time in Seattle and Reno, Nev., before returning to Montana and settling near Ronan, where they farmed and sold real estate. Her husband Pete preceded her in death on May 7, 1978.

Anna is survived by her daughter Stephanie Standen of St. Paul, Minn.; granddaughter Wendy Ravander of Seattle; and grandson Wes Standen of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Shrider's Mortuary Chapel in Ronan with Pastor Rand Drollman officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. at Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell.

Arrangements are by Shrider's Mortuary in Ronan.

John P. King

ST. IGNATIUS - John P. King, 81, of St. Ignatius, died Sunday, Jan. 11, at the St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan.

John was born Aug. 1, 1916, in Galax, Va., to Robert and Laura King. He went to school in Galax and worked for Sawyers Furniture Factory after graduation. He married Emma Clay Griffith on Oct. 14, 1939. In January 1945 he was inducted into the Army and served during World War II in Luzon, Japan.

He moved his family to Plainsboro, N.J., in 1947 and was a dairy farmer for 20 years. He then worked for Princeton University for 11 years as a custodian.

After retiring in 1978 he moved back to Galax, where he lived until 1995 when because of failing health he moved to Montana to live with his daughter and son-in-law.

John was an avid baseball fan throughout his life and found great joy in watching and following his favorite teams. He was a member of the Savannah Methodist Church in Galax and sang in the church choir.

He is survived by his daughter Luemma King Pinelli and her husband Anthony of St. Ignatius; son John P. King Jr. and wife Linda of Penns Park, Pa.; four grandchildren, Peter Pinelli and wife Betsy of Shelton, Conn., Janice Schenck and husband Gary of Lawrenceville, N.J., Donna Post and husband Michael of Lawrenceville and Katie King of Penns Park; three great-grandchildren; brother Robert King Jr. of Galax.; and several nieces and nephews.

Viewing and visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Vaughan Guinn Funeral Home in Galax. Burial will be at Monte Vista Cemetery in Galax.

Services will be Friday at the Savannah Methodist Church in Galax.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vaughan Guinn Funeral Home in Galax and Shrider's Mortuary in Ronan.

Carl A. Hulquist

SAGLE, Idaho - Carl Arthur Hulquist, 85, longtime Sagle, Idaho, resident, passed away quietly at his home with his family near on Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time) Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Jewel Lake Barn in Sagle with Ted and Mary Schweikert officiating. A potluck dinner will follow the service.

Carl was born July 16, 1912, in Woodfairie, Idaho, the son of Arthur and Nellie (Strosnider) Hulquist. He attended the old Woodfairie School in the Jewel Lake area, where his parents homesteaded in the early 1900s. Carl married Arbutus Mercer on July 18, 1933, in Spokane.

Carl logged with his brother and dad all over western Montana and northern Idaho for nearly 60 years. He was active in the Grange and was a past master of the Edgemere and Bonner County Pomona Grange. He enjoyed baseball, bowling, horseshoes, hunting and fishing. Carl was an active outdoorsman. He also was an honorary member of the HooDoo Valley Hoedowners Square Dance Club.

Carl is survived by his wife Arbutus Hulquist of Sagle; seven children, Carl D. and wife Kathy Hulquist of Moscow, Idaho, Ruth Wilkinson of Sagle, Guy and wife MaeBelle Hulquist of Sagle, Richard and wife JoAnne Hulquist of Amarillo, Texas, Lou Ellen and husband Glen Eveland of Butte, Jan Ray and wife Mary Beth Hulquist of Missoula and Elaine and husband Chris Obenauer of Sagle; 27 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 22 stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Stockdale of Sagle and Helen Blake of Superior.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, sister Catherine "Tootie" Schneider, brother Harry and youngest brother Robert in World War II.

Memorials may be made to the Edgemere Grange, 50 Northwoods Drive, Priest River, Idaho 83856; or to the Bonner Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1448, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.

Allen D. Waliser

HELENA - Allen D. Waliser, 43, of Helena, died Saturday, Jan. 10, at his Stewart Home residence.

He was born Nov. 29, 1954, in Hamilton, the son of Ralph and Helen Richter Waliser. Allen graduated from special education in Hamilton and soon after moved to Helena, where he lived at the Cannon Group Home and started working at Helena Industries in August 1973 at their box plant.

In 1977 he moved to Stewart Homes with support from the Independent Living Services from Spring Meadow Resources. He continued to live independently at the home until his death.

He lived and worked in the community and was considered one of Helena's most avid Brewer fans. Allen never missed a Brewers game and when they were out of town, he listened to the game on the radio. He knew all the players, their positions and the team's wins and losses.

Allen participated in Special Olympics and brought home numerous medals. He was the Special Olympian who was always on the field giving 100 percent and was also the first to congratulate his friends on their achievements on the field and court. He participated in track and field, bowling, baseball and basketball.

He loved to travel and traveled with the Search Beyond group to Hawaii, Nashville, Disney World and Disneyland. His favorite activities besides the Brewer games were bike riding, spending time with friends, being involved in community activities, country music, movies, especially John Wayne ones, and bowling. He also was active in the Helena Jaycees for several years.

Allen's impact on friends and co-workers in Helena was profound. He was always there to help and be with his friends. His passing leaves a void in everyone's life and all who knew him will remember his grin, his good humor and his patience with us.

Survivors include his brothers and their families, Jim and Marsha and their children Shannon and Jodi, Ray and Tricia and their children Tony and Stefani, all of Hamilton, and Wayne and Vicki and their children Jennifer and Jason of Missoula; and numerous aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother on Dec. 12, 1993, and his father on April 10, 1997.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the First Lutheran Church in Helena.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton with the Rev. Raymond Gilmore as celebrant. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.

The family suggests memorials to Helena Industries or Montana Special Olympics.

Edna E. Jemison Frey

SUPERIOR - Edna E. Jemison Frey, 89, of Superior, passed away quietly at the Mineral Community Hospital on Monday, January 12, 1998.

Edna was born in Clearwater, up the Blackfoot, on August 18, 1908, to Christine and Albert Jemison. She attended schools in Potomac, graduating from high school in Butte. She went on to attend Dillon Normal School and the University of Washington in Seattle. Edna then worked as a schoolteacher at Bearmouth and Hall.

Edna married Charlie H. Frey in Newport, Wash., on December 31, 1932. Both before and after their marriage, she continued as a schoolteacher in Tarkio and Superior. Before she began working with Charlie on the ranch in Tarkio, Edna had taught school a total of nine years. On the "Happy Hollow" ranch. Edna and Charlie raised three children as well as foster children.

Edna will be fondly remembered for her active role in local community affairs, including her part in taking the census in 1964; being a 4-H Leader for 18 years; serving on the Conservation Board; was the past noble grand of Rebekah Lodge #89; was a longtime member of the Farmer's Union as well as the Mineral County Taxpayers Association; helped to start the Mineral County Senior Center; served along with Charlie as charter members of the Mineral County Bank as well as the Production Credit Association in Missoula; a longtime and committed member of the Democratic Party; and helped to develop and then worked at the Human Resources Department in Mineral County, retiring in 1992 at the age of 84.

Edna is preceded in death by her husband in 1971; a grandson, Danny Frey, and two sisters, Dorothy Shue and Frances Monroe. Her family includes a daughter, Billye Ann "Toots" Bricker and husband, Wayne of Tarkio; two sons, Chuck and his wife, Barb, Frey of Missoula, and Don and his wife, Terry, Frey of Kent, Wash.; six grandchildren, Chris, Dave, Shanna, Michelle, Eric and Dawnee; three great-grandchildren and a very special friend and renter, Cliff Bajumpaa.

Funeral Services will be held at the multipurpose room of the Superior High School on Thursday, January 15, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Danny A. Robbins officiating. A reception will follow at the Senior Center. The family suggests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Squire Chapel, 3035 S. Russell.

Irene Fetzer

MISSOULA - Irene Fetzer, 77, of Missoula went to be with her beloved husband, Christ, Monday, Jan. 12, at the Village Health Care Center.

She was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Arena, N.D., the ninth of ten children of Andrew and Caroline Kraft. She grew up on the family farm in Arena and was educated in the same area. As a young woman she worked as domestic help in Bismarck and Mercer, N.D., and Milwaukee.

On Sept. 20, 1939, she married Christ Fetzer in Sterling, N.D. They farmed in Tuttle, N.D., until 1950, when they moved to Wing, N.D., and operated a trucking business. In 1962, they moved to Missoula. Shortly thereafter, she began working at Buttrey's where she worked until she retired in 1985.

She was an active member of the Atonement Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking German food for her family and friends and garage sales were her favorite pastime.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christ in 1970; four brothers, Andrew, Harold, Art and Philip and three sisters, Lydia, Alvina and Adaline. Survivors include two sons, Chet Fetzer and wife, Sandra of Kirkland, Wash., Kirby Fetzer and wife, Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Jackie Kindred of Missoula; two sisters, Martha Krien and Delia Brose of Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Barry, Danielle, Jenny, Sarah, Becky, Mark and Annette and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Garden City Funeral Home. Private family interment is at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. A public memorial service is at 11 a.m. Friday at the Atonement Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Engh officiating, followed by a reception at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, 201 S. Last Chance Gulch, Helena, Mont., 59601.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gordon Wesley Foster

PHILIPSBURG - Gordon Wesley Foster went to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, Jan. 11, at his Maxville residence. He died of natural causes.

Gordon Wesley was born on March 4, 1938, in Missoula. The only child of Norman and Gerde (Johnson) Foster. He lived his entire life in the Maxville area. His mother died when he was 11 years old. He lived with his grandmother, Sigrid Johnson and aunt, Laura Ledbetter on the Iver Johnson ranch in Maxville. He attended school in Philipsburg and graduated from Granite County High School in 1957.

Gordon worked and later owned and operated the Johnson Ranch until the late 1980s when he sold the ranch and retired due to his health. He continued to live on the ranch until the highway department purchased the house. He relocated about a mile north in his new home until his death.

He never married. He was a member of the Philipsburg Community Church, he was active in Awana. He loved to visit with his many friends and neighbors.

Memorials are requested to the Philipsburg Community Church or donor's choice.

His surviving relatives include cousins, Marie and Allen "Scotty" Morrison of Maxville, Walter and Georgie Wickberg of Missoula, Lloyd and Sandy Keiley of Edmonds, Wash., and Lois and John Rumney of Cascade; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services for retired Maxville rancher Gordon Wesley Foster, age 59, will be conducted from the Philipsburg Community Church, Friday afternoon, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Delbert Abbey officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery at a later date. Visitation hours will be Thursday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until noon at the Philipsburg Chapel of KT Riddle Funeral Homes. Additional visitation will be at the church Friday from 1 p.m. until service time.

Services and cremation are under the care of the KT Riddle Funeral Homes of Philipsburg.

Twyla Plaas

LIBBY - Twyla Plaas, 83, longtime Libby resident, died Friday, Jan. 9, at the Libby Care Center.

She is survived by three sons, Michael of Centralia, Wash., Allen of Wasilla, Alaska, and Richard "Rick" of Libby; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home in Libby.

Lena Salois Morley

KALISPELL - Lena Salois Morley, 98, died Monday, Jan. 12, at the Heritage Place in Kalispell.

She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie "Maxine" Absalonson of Kalispell; three grandchildren, Christine Playstead of Olympia, Wash., Susan Palmerton of Seattle, and Corky Moen of Olympia, Wash., and three great-grandchildren.

A wake service is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the funeral home. Burial follows at the C.E. Conrad Cemetery.

The Buffalo Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Eloise Stinson Butterfield

KALISPELL - Irene Eloise Stinson Butterfield, 74, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, at her home in Kalispell.

She is survived by four daughters, Judy Young of Tallahassee, Fla., Bernice Mellem of Kalispell, Linda Cole of Bigfork and Susan Butterfield of Kalispell; son, Gary Butterfield of Bigfork; one brother, James Stinson of Conrad and six grandchildren.

Memorial services are at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Little Brown Church in Bigfork.

The Buffalo Hill Funeral Home of Kalispell is in charge of arrangements.
