Joan Eckelberry
KALISPELL - Joan Eckelberry, 86, died at Brendan House on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
She is survived by two sons, Keith Eckelberry and wife Sandie of Kalispell, and Gary Eckelberry and wife Roberta of Cheney, Wash.; a daughter, Marlesse, and her husband, John Baines, of Amarillo, Texas; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery east of Kalispell. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Jonathon Earl Blumer
KALISPELL - Jonathon Earl Blumer, 76, died of lung cancer Wednesday, Jan. 14.
He is survived by his partner, Helen, of Kalispell; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Hulquist of Spokane, Betty Chester of Great Falls and Patricia Seamans of Helena; six brothers and their spouses, Benjamin and Peggy Blumer of Yuma, Ariz., Clayton and Jean Blumer of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Eldon and Ellen Blumer of Lindsey, Calif., Larry and Rose Blumer of Columbia Falls, Harold and Claudia Blumer of Kalispell, and Richard and Jennifer Blumer of Visalia, Calif.; a sister and her husband, Blanche and Monte Garrett of Kalispell; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the Gospel Light Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Johnson Mortuary Chapel.
Howard A. Gaare
GREAT FALLS - Howard A. Gaare, 82, died of natural causes Wednesday, Jan. 14, at a Great Falls hospital.
He is survived by his daughter, Janice Kay Gaare of Missoula; his sons, Bruce H. Gaare and Kevin Gaare of Great Falls; his sisters, Evelyn Garcia of San Diego, Calif., and Nella Dolven of Billings; and five grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the First Congregational Church UCC in Great Falls.
Arrangements are by the O'Connor Memorial Chapel of Great Falls.
Ethel Mae Halvari
MISSOULA - Ethel Mae Halvari, age 87, of Missoula passed away at home of natural causes on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
She was born on April 16, 1910, in Missoula, the daughter of Jesse and Estella Crago. Ethel was a lifetime resident of Missoula. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy Bush, in April 1996; two sisters; and one brother.
Ethel is survived by two sons, Charlie Peterson of Garrison and Douglas Halvari of Missoula; two daughters, Sandra Philpott and husband Ron of Missoula, and Wanda Asbury of Missoula; 16 grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three nieces, Helen Neilson and Shirley Miles of Missoula and Joyce Pleugh of Summers, Calif.; and one nephew, Wesley Crago of Yakima, Wash.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. The family suggests that memorials be made in Ethel's name to the Missoula Hospice. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
Joe Sherwood
St. Ignatius - Joe Sherwood was stillborn on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
He is survived by his mother, April Sherwood; grandparents, Julie Sherwood and Duane Matt; and great-grandparents, Mary Sherwood and Margaret Finley.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Mission Valley Funeral Chapel with burial following at the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Mission Valley Funeral Chapel.
Jacob Alexander Schlepp
PINEHURST, Idaho - Jacob Alexander Schlepp, 80, died of a heart attack at his home Thursday, Jan. 15.
He was born March 24, 1917, at Watson Flats, the son of Jacob and Christina Schlepp.
Jacob was a veteran of World War II serving in the Philippine Islands.
On Sept. 12, 1946, he married Lottie Mae Eggebrecht. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1977. They lived in the Sand Creek community on northeastern Montana where he was a farmer/stockman and active with church and community affairs.
In 1970, they moved to Ovando where he ranched.
He married Rosella Stewart on April 12, 1979, in Missoula. They moved to northern Idaho in 1980. He was a member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Michael Schlepp and Paul Schlepp of Cataldo, Idaho, and Jacob Schlepp of Bend, Ore.; three daughters, Carol Strickland of Pensacola, Fla., Christine Beem of Wamego, Kan., and Sheila Keefe of Idaho Falls, Idaho; four stepchildren, James Stromberg of Stevensville, Roy Stromberg Jr. of Missoula, Geraldine McCormick of East Missoula and June Parks of Ovando; grandchildren, Debbie Kennedy and Michelle Strickland of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tana and Cara Schlepp of Cataldo, Brent and Kimberly Beem of Wamego, Jessica and Joelle Schlepp of Bend, Mariah Schlepp of Cataldo, Alicia, Danielle and Melissa Keefe of Idaho Falls; great-grandchildren Samantha Mae Kennedy and Nadalie Eileen Kennedy of St. Petersburg; brothers, Ludwig Schlepp and Edward Schlepp; sisters, Irene Bradley, Ruby Rast and Ruth Thurn; stepbrothers, Walter Presser and Frank Presser, and stepsister, Alice Murray.
Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Timothy Whiteman officiating. Interment is at the Vida Cemetery with military honors by the Wolf Point VFW Post 1755 and the American Legion Post 22. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the donor's choice. Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel in Kellogg with the Rev. Ted Werffelman of Coeur d'Alene officiating.
Lillian Long
CORVALLIS - Lillian Long, 72, of Corvallis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998.
She was born on June 10, 1925, in McCone County and was the daughter of John Elmer and Nadine (Cusker) Olson.
She was raised in eastern Montana with a very loving father and brothers and five sisters. She attended beauty school and the school of nursing in Fargo. She married Alvin Long in September of 1948 in Wolf Point. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in September.
In 1963, the couple moved to Charlo and in 1991 near Corvallis where they have since resided. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting afghans, cooking and gardening and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran faith.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin; three daughters and their husbands, LaVonne and David Conley of Santa Ana, Calif., and their three sons, Travis, Adam and Clinton, Evelyn and Randy Say of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Marilyn and Joe Schofield of Stevensville and their son, Gage and daughter, Gina.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stevensville on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Delancy officiating.
The Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville is in charge of arrangements.
Grace E. McAllister
MISSOULA - Grace Ernestine (Steel) McAllister, died on Thursday, Jan. 21, at Community Hospital of natural causes at the age of 76. Grace lived in Missoula with her husband and had lived at the Village Health Care Center for a short time.
Grace was born in Paradise to Melvin and Lera Steel. Her mother had a cafe in Paradise and her father owned a barber shop there. Grace worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Paradise, Garrison and Missoula as a waitress. Grace also worked at other places including the Palace Bar, Diana Shop and the Park Cafe. Grace loved people and had a great personality.
Grace was a member of the Methodist Church. Her greatest love was her husband and family, and we all dearly love her too.
Survivors include her husband Ray of the family home in Missoula; a daughter, Sharon Graham of Missoula; granddaughters Charmaine Findlay of Lolo and Hope Graham of Missoula; grandson Ray Kauf of Seattle; great-grandson Dylan Findlay of Lolo; a niece, Shirley Cave of Bremerton, Wash.; and a nephew, Rod Barber of Missoula.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Barber.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Sunset Chapel, with Pastor William Draughon officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home's community room. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Kenneth A. Nordtome
KALISPELL - Kenneth A. Nordtome, 83, of Kalispell, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at the Brendan House.
He is survived by his wife Zella of Kalispell; one son, Jim Nordtome and wife Barbara of Kalispell; one daughter, Joan Dykstra and husband Ted of Kalispell; one daughter, Joan Dykstra and husband Ted of Kalispell; four grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Glazier of Kalispell; a brother, Owen (Bud) Nordtome of Kalispell; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. at the Central Bible Church with Ron Youde officiating. Burial will be in Glacier Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at the Johnson Mortuary.
Willis Dale Sheumaker
KALISPELL - Willis "Willie" Dale Sheumaker, 61, of Kalispell, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Sheumaker is survived by four daughters, Tammi Sheumaker of Stroud, Okla., Kelly Sheumaker of Thornton, Colo., Janice Jones and husband Scott of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Billie Davis and husband Gordon of West Hartford, Conn.; three brothers, Ben Sheumaker and wife Shirley of Clovis, Calif., Larry Sheumaker and wife Leah of Pablo, and Jim Sheumaker and wife Charlotte of Ronan; one sister, Doris Moody and husband Chuck of Cherokee Village, Ark.; and two grandchildren, Breana Humbert and William McEntire.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Buchanan of First Baptist Church of Columbia Falls officiating. Burial will follow in Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at the funeral home.
Marion Therese Lawrenson
MISSOULA - Marion Therese Lawrenson, 88, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Community Medical Center of natural causes.
She was born on July 23, 1910, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Mary Mathys.
Marion married Maurice O. Lawrenson in 1938 and they moved to Minneapolis. In 1945, they moved to Austin, Minn., where they owned a hardware store. Marion moved to Missoula in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, in 1960.
Marion is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Leslie Lawrenson; two grandsons, Mark and William Jr.; a granddaughter, Jackie; and one great-granddaughter, Alex.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in Onawa, Iowa.
Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
Robert J. Carney
HAMILTON - Robert J. Carney, 43, of Hamilton, after an extended illness with leukemia, joined his Heavenly Father, his son Joshua and his brother Larry on Friday, Jan. 22, 1999.
He was born on April 6, 1955, in Anaconda, the son of Charles and Lucille Thomas Carney.
He grew up in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1973, where he still holds the two-mile record in track. He graduated from Northwest Bible College in Kirkland, Wash., in 1980, and was youth pastor at Stevensville for one year.
Robert served in the National Guard and was an active member of the Assembly of God Church. He taught Sunday school, Royal Rangers and Sr. and Jr. Bible Quiz. He loved and was loved by the many children whose lives he touched. He was very active in all sports - hunting, fishing, camping, and enjoyed life to the fullest. Robert touched many lives and will be greatly missed here on earth.
Survivors include Paula Carney, the mother of his children; a daughter, Amanda; his parents Charles and Lucille Carney, all of Hamilton; brother Loren and his wife Carol Carney, nephew David and nieces Lisa and Rachel, all of Corvallis; sister Ruth Ann and husband Steve Firkins, nephews Craig and Doug, and niece Brianne, all of Roseburg, Ore.; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son Joshua and brother Larry.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the Hamilton Assembly of God Church with the Rev. David Beroth officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.
Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Monday at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
The family suggests memorials to a hospice or Children's Ministries of Hamilton Assembly of God.
Dorothy Bucklin
VICTOR - Dorothy Bucklin, 88, of Victor, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Stevensville at the Bitterroot Valley Living Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene J. Bucklin, and by two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ted Roeder of Victor; a son, Paul Bucklin of California; and four grandchildren.
Private family graveside services will be held in Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.
The family suggests memorials to Camp Mak A Dream, 3700 S. Russell St., Missoula, Mont. 59801.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
