Douglas McLure, 61

Douglas Kimmerle McLure, 61, died Thursday in Billings.

He was born on May 24, 1943, in Missoula, the son of William R. and Beatrice Ruth (Franzman) McLure. Douglas was raised and educated in Philipsburg. He earned two degrees from the University of Montana, Missoula.

He worked as a pharmaceutical salesman in Seattle for several years, before moving to Los Angeles where he worked in a research lab. He lived in Red Lodge for the past two years.

Douglas was a photographer, an artist and was interested in genealogy and history.

Survivors include his daughter Desiree Rene Garcia of Pasadena, Calif.; three grandchildren; sister Irene Marie McLure of Reno, Nev.; two brothers and a sister-in-law David L. McLure of Billings and William (Sharon) Park McLure of Philipsburg; several other relatives and many devoted friends.

Funeral services will be celebrated from St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Philipsburg Cemetery. Visitation and wake will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anaconda Chapel of KT Riddle Funeral Homes. Additional visitation will be Thursday morning from 9 to 10:45 a.m.

Memorials: A medical research foundation of the donor's choice.

Donna Settera, 66

Donna Settera, 66, our loving mother, died Sunday at Barrett Hospital after a short illness.

Mom was preceded in death by our much-loved father John Settera on Oct. 4, 1995, her parents Elzie and Dorothy Cubbison Grey Cliff, and her sister Juanita Rand Davison Geraldine.

Donna is survived by her four children, Roxann Settera of Great Falls, Diane Hulford of Bozeman, Robin Fuson of Livingston and Mark Settera of Dillon; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one soon to arrive; two sisters, Wanda (Bill) Bottoms of Billings and Deloris (Ron) McCraney of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend Amy Rand of Dillon.

We will all miss her greatly. As Donna's request, there will be no services.

Clovis Birdsill, 86

DILLON — Clovis L. Birdsill died Sunday in the Dillon hospital.

He was born July 5, 1918, to Nova (Love) and Ormand Birdsill in Berthoud, Colo. His family lived in Cheyenne, Wyo., Bozeman, Ennis and the Ruby Valley. He attended school in Virginia City, graduated from Sheridan and attended the University of Montana-Missoula.

He worked in Twin Bridges and at the Green Campbell mine in Silver Star. He married Ethel Hedengran; they had one son and later divorced.

In 1942 he started worked at Northern Pacific Railway and was an engineer for the next 39 years. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1945.

He married Marjorie Phillips in 1951. He adopted her son and they had a son.

Clovis was general chairman for the Railroad Locomotive Fireman and Enginemen in St. Paul, Minn., from 1959 to 1965, when he moved to Missoula, retiring in 1979. He then moved to Sheridan and Dillon in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; sons, Jack (Judi) Lockridge, Deer Park, Wash., Bill (Karen) Birdsill, Glendora, Calif., Ben (Cecelia) Birdsill, Billings; sister, Audrey Jennings, Central Point, Ore.; brother, Jim Birdsill, Sheridan; grandchildren, Toni Ortega and Van Lockridge.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Weingart.

Memorial services are 10 a.m. Thursday in Brundage Funeral Home.

Joseph Malley Jr., 81

Joseph Robert Malley Jr. died Tuesday afternoon in St. James Healthcare.

Joe was born on Jan. 7, 1923, in Butte, the son of Joseph Robert Sr. and Margaret Louise (Schuster) Malley.

Joe worked at various locations in Butte, including several Butte mines, City Taxi and Hughes Homes. However, he is best remembered for his jovial personality and wonderful wit behind the bar. For many years, Joe brought a smile to the faces of his patrons at the Hilltop Bar in Walkerville, the Dew Drop Inn and Malley's Bar, which were establishments owned and operated by Joe, and the great love of his life, his wife, Martha, who died Feb. 13, 2004. For the last 18 years, Joe had been continuing to delight customers at the Mill Bar.

In addition to his wife; Martha, Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Donald and Buster.

He is survived, and will be missed, by his daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Jon Sabo, Janis and Gary Quam, and Patti and Ray Maldonado; his grandchildren, P.J. and Joey Harrington, Sherrie Stewart, Shelly Burke, Guy Quam, and Cody and Savanna Maldonado; eight great-grandchildren; sister; Eileen Davis; special nephew, Harold Olson, and his wife Cathy; special friends, Carol and Jim Heim; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives are asked to join the family on Saturday after 1:30 p.m. in the Duggan Dolan Mortuary Chapel, with services at 2 p.m.

Private family placement of ashes will take place at a later date.

Catherine Clark, 93

Catherine Ruth "Ma" Clark of Continental Gardens died Wednesday morning in the local hospital.

She was born June 17, 1911, in Butte to Joseph H. and Eliza Jane (Casley) Harvey. She attended local schools and on June 24, 1931, she married William G. Clark in Butte. He died Nov. 18, 1980. Also preceding her in death are her brother, Richard John Harvey, and her sister, Louise "Sis" Beech.

Ma was a devoted supporter of the Salvation Army and was an Avon representative since 1972. She was a member of Avon's President's Club for having been a representative over 30 years. She had also worked at the Columbia Gardens at one time.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Jerry Brothers and Darlene and Frank Olenick, all of Butte; son and daughter-in-law, William and Diana Clark of Butte; grandchildren, Jerry and Jamie Brothers, Wayne Brothers and Liane Stevens, Jodie and Dave Mason, Cathy and Kelly Maloney and Christie and Scott Harris; great-grandchildren, Dee and Katie Brothers, Erik, Ryan and MaKinzie Mason, Samantha Maloney and Lexie Kambich.

Mrs. Clark's remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home where friends may call beginning Thursday after 3 p.m. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Wareham officiating. Entombment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorials: Spirit of Columbia Gardens Carousel or the Salvation Army.

Gerret Ouldhouse, 85

ANACONDA — Gerret "Boe" Ouldhouse died Nov. 18 in Sun City, Ariz.

He was born April 14, 1919, to Gerret and Della Ouldhouse near Rigby, Idaho, and raised in Anaconda.

Gerret started work at 16 at the Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway, retiring at age 50. He married Irene Davenport in 1940 and had a daughter Jean in 1941; Irene died in 1957. His passion for the outdoors led him to open Rainbow Wilderness Survival School. He married Elizabeth Naranche in 1970. They began wintering in Arizona and returned in summer to Georgetown Lake. In latter part of the 1970s, he sold the camp and permanently retired. After a long battle with cancer, Elizabeth died. Gerret married Marjorie Jacobs in 1990; she died in June 2004.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Della Howser, niece, Marie Frownfelter, and sister-in-law, Ruby Ouldhouse.

Survivors include his daughter, Jean (Steve) Frye; grandchildren, Rob Frye (Steve Cramer), Scott Woodruff (Adena Carter); brothers, Chuck (Lucille) Ouldhouse, Ray Ouldhouse; brother-in-law, Ted Howser; nephews and nieces, John, Gary, Jim, and Michael Ouldhouse, Lucille Laird, Margaret Drager, Marion Koll, Ann Geiger, Gerret, David, and Dan Ouldhouse, Dolores Panich, Bernard Du Monthier, and special friend, Elaine Hardy.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Family Church, Anaconda.

Gordon Smith, 93

DILLON — Gordon L. Smith died Monday at the Mountain View Care Center in Bozeman.

He was born to George and Margaret Smith in River Falls, Wis., on Nov. 23, 1911, the last of 12 children. Gordon married Sadie Ford in 1939. He retired as vice president from International Printing Ink after 35 years, and obtained a real estate license. Sadie and Gordon moved to Dillon 35 years ago and Gordon served as a state appraiser for 18 years.

Gordon was a member of the Danish Brotherhood, Dillon Masonic Lodge No. 16, Baghdad Temple of the Shrine, Dillon Elks Club, and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Seattle. He will be fondly remembered as an avid golfer, his favorite pastime, and was a member of the Beaverhead Country Club.

His wife and 11 brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Gordon (Michelle) Smith Jr., Peoria, Ariz., and daughter, Nancy (Roger) Gowan, Bozeman; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon. Graveside committal will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. A buffet luncheon at the Dillon Elks Club immediately afterwards will conclude the celebration of Gordon's life.

Memorials: Shriner's Children's Hospital in Spokane.

Ted Hiltz Jr., 73

DEER LODGE — Theodore "Ted" Hiltz Jr. of Deer Lodge died Tuesday in Missoula.

He was born May 28, 1931, in Manhattan to Theodore and Anna Hiltz Sr. He was educated in Deer Lodge schools, graduating from Powell County High School in 1949. He started working for the Milwaukee Road in 1950, served in the Marine Corps 1951-53, continued working for the railroad as an electrician, and retired in 1980. He then worked for Montana State Prison as an electrician, retiring in 1993.

He married Gloria Segovia Aug. 23, 1953, in Santa Anna, Calif. She died in 1993. He married Susan Hill Aug. 11, 2004, in Butte.

Ted belonged to Floral Chapter 46, Order of Eastern Star, Deer Lodge 14 AF&AM, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Baghdad Shrine, Ivanhoe Commandary, Knights Templar. He enjoyed the outdoors with his family and friendly morning coffee at The Shack.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of Deer Lodge; daughters and their husbands, Donita (Lonnie) Anderson, Deer Lodge, Roseanna (Gene) Whitaker, Anaconda; sister, Helen (Dan) Hanifen, Deer Lodge; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Eastern Star services are 7 p.m. Friday in the Jewell Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, with the Rev. David Baker officiating.

AF&AM 14 will conduct fraternal graveside services and the United Veterans Honor Guard of Deer Lodge will present military honors.

Memorials: PAWHS, any animal care service or charity of the donor's choice.

Jewell Funeral Home is handling cremation arrangements.

Elaine Bernard, 49

DEER LODGE — Elaine McKee Bernard died Monday in a Spokane hospital after an extended illness.

She was born July 8, 1955, in Choteau to Francis and Jean McKee The family moved to Deer Lodge in 1966. Elaine graduated from Powell County High School in 1973. She moved to Spokane in 1976. Elaine worked as a caregiver in the Spokane area.

Survivors include a daughter, Jalene Bernard, Spokane; mother, Jean McKee, Deer Lodge; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Sheilah McKee, Long Beach, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Glenn Phillips, Omaha, Neb.; and grandchildren Dustin, Devin and Jenna.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Deer Lodge with the Rev. Tim Olsen officiating.

Memorials: Donor's choice.
