Klerence Herman Rockne

Klerence "Chuck" Herman Rockne, age 87, of Helena died at St. Peters Hospital Monday, May 26, 2003.

He was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Ingomar, Mont., to Kenneth K. and Mary E. (Crum) Rockne. He was a cowboy, ranch-hand and retired from Ideal Cement. He and Jacqueline Baker were married in Great Falls on Aug. 5, 1944.

He is survived by wife Jacqueline "Jacky" of Helena; son Raleigh Rockne of Harrison; daughter: Susan Winsick of Montana City and Gwen Anderson of Silver City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his twin sister, Hazel Palish of Olympia, Wash.; sister Shirley Tidd, and brother Kenneth Knute Rockne of Kuna, ID .

Graveside service will be conducted on Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Green cemetery in Willow Creek with military honors and the Rev. Dick Miller officiating. Family prefers memorials to Lewis and Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604. Services have been entrusted to Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home, 650 Logan St., Helena, MT. 442-8520

Bonnie Jean Dennis

Bonnie Jean Dennis, 48, of Helena, passed away early Friday, June 27, 2003, at the Rocky Mountain Care Center following an extended illness. She was born Dec. 5, 1954, to Carl and Sophie (Strosdaz) Gjersing in Sioux City, Iowa.

Bonnie Jean graduated from Carroll College in 1993 with a degree in social work. She worked at the Friendship Center for five years before retiring due to pulmonary disease. She had also worked for several nursing homes around the Helena area.

Her husband, Darrell Dennis Sr., and her sons, Darrell Dennis, Jr. and his wife Teresa Dennis, and Kris Dennis and his wife, all of Helena, survive her.

Also surviving are Andrea of Billings; and Paul Dennis of Helena and eight grandchildren; Jacob, Sophia, Nicole, Kiara, Brady, Zachary and Shae Dennis all of Helena and McKylay Dennis of Billings. Also surviving is a sister, Sandra Thompson; and nieces and nephews Michelle Thompson and Gary Thompson, Jr., all of Helena.

Her parents and a sister, Mona Shepard, preceded her in death.

Chapel services will be Tuesday, July 1, at 11 a.m. from Hagler-Anderson Chapel with Pastor Keith Johnson Officiating. Cremation has taken place. Family prefers memorials to the Friendship Center, 1503 Gallatin, Helena, MT 59601.

Jim A. Hubbard

Jim A. Hubbard, age 58, of Helena, passed away at his home after suffering a heart attack on June 26, 2003.

Jim was born to George and Olive Hubbard on Dec. 11, 1944, in Sand Point, Idaho. Jim grew up in Augusta. He married Jeannie Mysse in Cour D Alene, Idaho.

The family moved to Helena in 1972 and he worked as a security officer at the Federal Reserve Bank for 30 years. He retired in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie of Helena; daughter Tami (John) Ross of Helena; a brother, Bud (Judy), of Townsend; a sister, Mary (Joe) Janeiro, of Ledger, Conn.; and sister-in-law Judy Hubbard of Great Falls. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Molly.

Memorial services will be held at Helena Funeral Chapel Tuesday, July 1, at 3 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Polycystic Kidney foundation, PKD Foundation, 4901 Main Street, Ste. 200, Kansas City, MO 64112-2634. Helena Funeral Chapel has completed the funeral arrangements.

Marceline 'Marcie' Boneau

Marceline "Marcie" Catherine Boneau, age 92, of Helena, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at St. Peters Hospital. She was born Dec. 1, 1910, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Walter A. and Alma M. (Pohlmann) Boneau.

She was a bookkeeper for Gough & Shanahan. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club, the Garden Club, a former member of the Daughters of Isabella and St. Helenas Altar Society.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Ken and Mel Naumann of Maryville, Tenn., Judy and Steve Silbaugh of Columbus, Ohio, and Ron and Vicki Boneau of Wheaton, Ill.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 30, from the Cathedral of St. Helena with cremation to follow. Interment of cremains will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at Resurrection cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home.

Bernice Seiler Mitchell

On Monday, June 23, Bernice Seiler Mitchell passed away in her apartment at The Waterford shortly after dinner, just two days before her 101st birthday.

Bernice was born June 25, 1902, to Elizabeth Wick and Arthur Seiler, Sr. in Helena. She spent her childhood in Helena, graduating from Helena High School and Helena Business College. Bernice served eleven sessions in the Montana State Legislature in both the Senate and House, serving as chief stenographer and bill clerk.

On October 16, 1926, she married H. M. "Dibbs" Mitchell and moved to Bozeman, where together with her parents they purchased The Bungalow Confectionery. They returned to Helena in 1931 and in 1932 purchased the Claflin Furniture House. In 1942, they moved to Philadelphia for three years where her husband served as a Major in the Signal Corps and then returned to Helena. Her husband preceded her in death on July 22, 1967. Her parents also preceded her in death.

She has been an enthusiastic golfer since 1931, making her first hole-in-one at the age of 82 years at the Green Meadow Country Club in Helena. She became club champion at the Pine Hills Country Club west of Helena in 1938 and also at Green Meadow Country Club in 1968 and 1969. She won the womens division of the Montana State Seniors Association held in Helena in 1967.

Bernice has been active in volunteer work for Red Cross blood drawings and served on St. Peters Community Hospital Foundation board and also as a volunteer at St. Peters Hospital for 32 years, retiring at age 98. She also served on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Dinner Club of Helena for two terms.

She is survived by her brother Art Seilers wife, Karen; Maxine and Earl Conver of Helena; Arline Watkins of Helena; three nephews and their families - Jay and Christine Seiler of Philadelphia, Bruce and Diane Seiler of Helena, Douglas and Cynthia Seiler of Philadelphia; numerous nieces and their families including Sandra Smith of Helena; and good friend Chris Petaja.

A memorial service will be held at the First Lutheran Church, 2231 Broadway, at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 30. Interment will follow at Forestvale cemetery. Retz Funeral Home is caring for arrangements. Contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church or Intermountain Childrens Home.

Ines E. Rogge

Ines E. Rogge, 80, of Helena, died June 26, 2003, at the Big Sky Care Center. She was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Straw, the daughter of William and Ethel Thomas.

She graduated from Jordan High School. Ines married Clifford Rogge April 13, 1942, in Miles City, and they were blessed with three sons and three daughters. She enjoyed baking, sewing, playing cards and spending time with her family. She was active in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Helena.

Ines was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Delores Hall; son Dennis Rogge; brothers Carl, Cecil, Kenneth and Clinton Thomas; sister Elsie and granddaughters Mary Ann Rogge and Nicole Maryott.

Surviving her are daughters Diana (Doug) Maryott of Coeur DAlene, Idaho, and Debbie (Tom) Erving of Helena; sons Delbert (Barbara) Rogge of Coeur DAlene and Donald (Karen) Rogge of Spokane, Wash; brothers George Thomas, Lewistown, and Earl Thomas, East Helena; sisters Roberta Likes, Auburn, Calif., and Darlene Rogge, Sand Springs; grandsons Dwayne (Julie) Rogge of Marysville, Wash., Brian Rogge of Spokane, Steven Rogge of Seattle, Darin (Jackie) Hall of Hermiston, Ore., and Cliff (Cheryl) Rogge of Spokane; granddaughters Dinah (Clint) Poling of Colville, Wash., Kim Rogge of Spokane, Christy Maryott of North Pole, Alaska, Anna Maryott of Coeur DAlene, Melissa and Marcie Erving both of Helena and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on July 1, 2003, at St. Johns Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98103, or to Wolf cemetery of Sand Springs, Montana, (c/o Debbie Erving, 4190 Red Fox Drive, Helena, MT 59602). Retz Funeral Home is caring for arrangements.

Mom always thought the greatest gift you could give her was your time. Ines would always say, "Thanks for coming. Thanks for stopping by."

Ronald Richard Smith

Ronald Richard Smith died June 25, 2003, at home on the Spotted Dog Canyon Ranch in Avon.

He was born Sept. 20, 1937.

He started his adult life early, working as a cowboy at age 14. He had many different occupations in his life - dairy, log skidder and journeyman lineman. But he always came back to cowboying.

Hes leaving behind his wife and soulmate of 17 years, Nancy Sturm.

He came from a large family. His parents were Roy and Vivian Smith. They are both deceased. His brothers were Thomas Roy, William Raymond, Troy Eugene (deceased), James Russell, Randall Charles, Melvine Morris (deceased), and Earl Marvin. His sister was Margaret Catherine Hilton.

His children were very important to him. He leaves sons Ronald W. Smith and Kathy, Jerry W. Smith and Karen, and Jeff Smith. He also leaves behind his daughter and light of his life, Michelle Sturm and Dustin.

He had four grandchildren, Josh Smith, Dustin Smith and Andrea, Lindsey Smith and Eric and Stephanie Smith.

He also had one great- grandchild, Keenan Nathanyal OLeary.

Services will be Monday, June 30, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Avon Community Church. Donations to hospice or charity of choice.

Jewell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ines E. Rogge

Dennis V. Dowling

Dennis V. Dowling, 61, died suddenly June 18, 2003, at his home in Belleville, N.J., of an apparent heart attack. Dennis was born in New York City to William J. Dowling and Veronica Karmilowicz Dowling. After Veronicas death, Dennis was raised by his stepmother, Edith Pinter Dowling, who survives him.

Dennis graduated from Carroll College in Helena in 1964, the same year he married Julia Bieber of Townsend. Dennis also attended law school at the University of Montana, Missoula.

Dennis moved to New Jersey more than 25 years ago where he was an insurance broker. He owned Dennis V. Dowling Inc., of Nutley, N.J., for the past 18 years. However, Dennis vacationed in Montana almost every summer during those 25 years. His hobby was collecting model trains.

He married Laura T. Yagins on Sept. 5, 1999, in New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynette Dowling. Surviving are his wife, Laura, and their son Dylan of Belleville; his sons Dennis, Jr. and wife Michelle of Sacramento, Calif.; Michael Dowling and wife Sherri and David Dowling and wife Angela, all of Helena; his daughter Leslie and husband Dan Fitzpatrick of Haymarket, Va.; brothers William J. Dowling, Santa Monica, Calif.; Thomas F. Dowling, Helena; Peter Dowling, Merrick, N.Y.; Paul Dowling, Basking Ridge, N.J.; sister Mary Lacker, Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren: Vincent Dowling, Great Falls; Chenoa Dowling, Sacramento; and Lindsey, Courtney, Andrew, Olivia and Maria Dowling, all of Helena.

Services have been held at St. John Kanty Church in Clifton, N.J., on June 23, 2003, after viewings and funeral from the Shook Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.

Frances Wolf

Frances J. Wolf, 92, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at her daughter and son-in-laws home in Montana City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at Retz Funeral Home, and also from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Hannover, N.D., and from 9 a.m. to a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30, at St. Peters Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the Hannover cemetery following the service.

Frances was born June 9, 1911, in Spokane, Wash., the daughter of Edward and Amy (Anderson) Hosek. She was confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in 1926 in Center, N.D.

She graduated from New Salem High School in 1929, and attended Dickinson Teachers College. Frances taught in rural schools in Pleasant Valley District and Brennan District. Frances often spoke of riding her horse to and from her home while teaching in the Pleasant Valley District.

She married William Wolf in October of 1936. They farmed northwest of Center. She loved farm life, especially the animals. She was a patient and loving mother.

Frances is survived by her children: Lorraine (Herb) Bauer, Clancy; William (Glennda) Wolf, Miles City; Leland (Carla) Wolf, Center; 11 grandchildren including their families and extended families; 12 great-grandchildren; several family members including nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who died in Jan. of 1992; a brother; a sister, Phyllis Berger, who died in Dec. of 2001; a grandson, Dean Wolf, who died in March of 2000; and a step-great grandson.

Frances was an active member and treasurer of the Golden Age Club in Center for several years. The family prefers memorials to St. Peters Lutheran Church, 2095 Hwy. 31, Hannover, ND 58563; The Golden Age Club, Center, ND 58530; the First Lutheran Elementary School, First Lutheran Church, 2231 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601; or to the Alzheimers Association. Montana Chapter, 3010 - 11th Ave. N., Billings, MT 59101.

Now, Mother "Dear, " everyday will be an Easter Sunday in your Eternal Rest. Confirmation verse: Revelation 2:10: "Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life."

Gary D. Scott

Gary Scott, beloved husband, son, father, grandpa and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 21, 2003, in Bellingham, Wash. Gary was born Feb. 12, 1947, in Elko, Nev. He moved to Montana as a young child and while growing up loved racing flat track motorcycles. He attended Helena High School and graduated from Western Montana College in 1991.

Gary married Ronda, the love of his life, on July 30, 1993. Together they enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabin on Canyon Ferry Lake where Gary loved to cook for everyone. They spent many vacations watching sprint car and NASCAR races and traveling on their Yamaha motorcycle. Gary was also an avid downhill skier. He loved sharing time with his grandson and bought him his first car before he was two years old.

Gary worked for the Montana National Guard for 27 years and retired as a CW3. At the time of his death he worked for Derek Brown Construction.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Scott, and stepmother, Ellen Scott.

Gary is survived by his wife, Ronda; sons and daughters-in-law Chip and Tammy Tetrault of Salt Lake City, Brian and Angel Tetrault of Helena; grandchild, Austin Tetrault of Salt Lake City; parents Nora and Tom Lanning of Post Falls, Idaho; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Judy Scott of Helena, Norm and Darlene Scott of Helena, Tom and Deb Lanning of Park City, Utah; sisters and brothers-in-law Diane and Bob Nicklay of Missoula, Mary Ann and Jeff Ranger of Helena; fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law Bill and Mary Rook of Helena, and Ronald and Patsy Byrd of Dillon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Curt and Vickie LaFountaine of Helena, Bob and Vicky Byrd of East Helena, Hank and Maggie Peterson of Fairmont, Kelley and Mary Patzer of Montana City, and Bill and Nicki Rook of Yakima, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Derek Brown, Jack Walsh, Skip Score, Jerry Scott, Norm Scott and Bill Willis.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the First Assembly of God Church, 2210 Dodge Ave., with Pastor Ken Ross officiating. Interment will be at the Montana State Veterans cemetery with military honors provided by the Montana National Guard Honor Guard. A reception will follow at the Fort Harrison service club.
