Davin Thomas Filcher
Davin Thomas Filcher was taken from his loving parents, Jeffrey Filcher and Kristin Harvey, to be with Jesus Jan. 8, 2004.
Davin will be dearly missed by his grandparents Tom and Carol Filcher and Michelle and David Harvey. His great-grandparents, Ralph and Helen Filcher, Bill and Alice Harvey, Richard and Elva Fodor, John Watson and Linda Clark send their prayers to our beautiful son in Heaven.
Davin was blessed to be on earth for just a short time, but he is in our hearts and eyes forever.
Big Sky cremations handled the arrangements.

Gregory J. Gorman
Gregory J. Gorman, age 43, of Helena, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at his home. Greg was born June 25, 1960, in Binghampton, N.Y., to Owen Andrew and Barbara Ann (Konkol) Gorman. Greg attended schools in Lancaster, Ohio. He came to Ashland in 1978 with his brother Owen, and then to Helena in 1984.
Greg was a very special person to all his family. He lived his whole life with seizures. Greg was a longtime employee of the Windbag Saloon where he met many friends and acquaintances throughout the years. Greg was a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus Council 844 Helena, and recently honored as Knight of the Month; the St. Helena Cathedral Parish; the OASIS Club of Helena; and the Helena Bike Club, until he could no longer safely bike. He could always be found on the SAG Wagon helping out and was always grinning from ear to ear. He helped out the Myrna Loy for many years, and he attended Brewer baseball games and Alive@5 during the summer months.
The Gorman family would like to thank all the good people of Helena who crossed paths with Greg the past 20 years. He was a very loving person who loved everything about Helena.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Ann Gorman of Springhill, Fla.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Owen and Debra Gorman of Helena, Edward J. Gorman and Laura Lane of Cleveland, Ohio, and Patrick M. and Mary Gorman of Hilo, HI; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Anne K. and Gene Wilson of Buckeye Lake, Ohio, Barbara Ann and Ralph Featherolf of Rushville, Ohio, and Julianna and Keith Dinehart of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Owen A. Gorman.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at St Helenas Cathedral with cremation to follow. A funeral luncheon will be held in the Cathedral Parish hall following the service. Helena Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Pearl Bell
Thomas Pearl Bell, age 64, of Helena, died of cancer Wednesday evening January 21, 2004, in Helena. Tom was born in Taloga, Okla., Jan. 1, 1940, to Zach and Jessie Bell. He worked as a truck driver and mechanic.
Tom was preceded in death by daughter Tamra Emerson, his parents, two brothers and a sister. He is survived by sons Patrick (Teresa) Bell, and Zach Bell of Helena; daughters Pamela Truffa of Manteca, Calif., Michelle and Rebecca Bell of Helena; sister Barbara Healon of Fresno, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and former spouse and good friend, Bernell Bell of Helena.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Retz Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in Sanger, Calif. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of St. Peters, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601.

Bill Bauer
CARDWELL - Bill Bauer, 60, of Cardwell, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 17, 1943, at Three Forks to Clarence and Kathleen (Hale) Bauer Sr. As a young boy, he moved to Clancy where he attended grade school and later attended Jefferson High School at Boulder. He then began work as a ranch hand for the Bob Marks ranch and later worked home construction in the Helena area.
He worked a short time on road construction near Drummond. For the last 27 years, he owned and operated a sawmill at Clancy and then at Cardwell.
He was a Golden Glove boxer and taught children how to box, and enjoyed horseshoe pitching in the A League. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hiking, boating, and always wanted to see what was on the other side of the mountain. Being a sawmill man, he loved a good tree. He loved life and excelled at whatever he did.
He married Marion King Dec. 16, 1964, at Boulder.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, son Donald Wade Bauer, and brother, Casey Bauer.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Bauer of Cardwell; daughters Sandy and Dan Pederson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Michelle Bauer and Jack Bullock of Fairfield, Calif.; brothers Ed and Elaine Bauer of Montana City, Dan and Malla Bauer of Livingston, Joe Bauer of Missoula and Chuck and Kay Steele of Manhattan; sisters Kathy and Monty DeMers of Jefferson City and Sally and Kurt Griffis of Whitehall; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. from the Cardwell Community Church with the Rev. William Grinder officiating. The church is located 7.5 miles south of the Cardwell exit, toward Harrison, on Highway 359. Memorials are suggested to Cardwell Community Church. Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Adam Gollmyer
Joseph Adam Gollmyer, age 88, formerly of Helena, died Jan. 8, 2004, at his home in Orange Park, Fla.
He was born in Billings and retired from Burlington-Northern Railroad. He was a member of Wesconnett Assembly of God.
His wife, Ella, preceded him in death in August 2002. Survivors include his son, Robert (Jane) Gollmyer of Orange Park; daughters JoAnn (Everett) Loughridge of Belton, Mo., and Sharon Gollmyer of Orange Park; sisters Bertha Friedman and Betty Ann Schieno; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services have been held. Holly Hill Funeral Home and cemetery in Middleburg, Fla., handled the arrangements.

Marjorie K. Cloud
Marjorie K. Cloud, 81, of Helena passed away Friday evening at Cooney Convalescent Home following an extended illness. She was born on Feb. 13, 1922, in St. Paul, Minn., to the late John F. and Anna Curran.
The family moved from St. Paul to Helena in 1936. In 1938, she married Charles M. Cloud, and he preceded her in death in 1986.
She raised her family of two boys and a daughter and worked around the Helena area as a waitress and for many years at the old Colonial Club. She was active in her church and was also an active member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Marjorie was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in her flowerbeds. She was an animal lover and was a caregiver to many pets including many cats that she rescued from the cold. She enjoyed going to lunch and was active with the Helena Senior Citizens at the Neighborhood Center for their daily lunches.
In addition to her parents and husband, her son, John, a grandson, Kelly Synness and a granddaughter, Debra Knutson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Mike and his wife, Terry; her daughter, Gerry Oatman, all of Helena. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Vigil services will be Tuesday evening Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. from St. Marys Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. from St. Marys Catholic Church. Interment services will follow at Forestvale cemetery. Family prefers memorials to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604. Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home was entrusted with local arrangements.

Dema Fern Harris
Dema Fern Harris, age 64, of Helena, went to be with the Lord Jan. 8, 2004.
She was born Jan. 17, 1939, in Gregory, S.D., to Franklin and Constance Calvin. Her family moved to Oregon where she met and married Charles Harris on June 9, 1974. They resided in Helena area since 1984.
Dema was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother and son, Robert Bade.
Dema loved the flowers in the spring, the outdoors, hunting with her son, Vance and being surrounded by her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; sister, Roberta Carey and her husband, Richard of Helena; sister-in-law, Laura Thompson and her husband, Joe; children and spouses, Jeffrey and Sylvia Bade of Oregon, Konnie Baughman of Washington, Vance and Traci Bade of Helena, Patrick Harris of Helena, Charlie Harris of Washington, Kim Harris of Oregon; and daughter-granddaughter, Bonnie Anderson of Helena; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, along with Chris Petaja and Noah and Paytyn Braden, who were all the loves of her life.
Dema was an angel sent to us for a short time. She had the heart of a lion and the courage of a bear, but was as small as a bird. She loved all who came into contact with her. We are sure she is soaring with the eagles watching us all from above. She will always be missed and loved with all of our hearts.

Shirley Cress
Shirley Cress passed away at Big Sky Care Center in Helena on Jan. 28, 2004.
She was born to Dan and Clara Harding on March 12, 1926, in Wausau, Wis. She married Paul Cress on May 4, 1946. She had three sons, Dan, Mark and Bryan.
Shirley moved to Battle Lake, Minn., where her husband, Paul, taught school. The family moved to Fairfield in 1962. She worked for the Eisenman Seed Company and Paul taught music in the Fairfield Schools. She later operated a craft shop called Alley Crafts and taught many craft classes. They were active in Grace Lutheran Church. She and Paul sponsored Luther League youth groups for many years and were active in church music. They also were active in the Fairfield Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Shirley was state president elect of Eagles Womens Auxiliary before her illness in 1999.
Paul passed away suddenly in 1989. Shirley lived in Fairfield until she suffered a stroke at church in January 1999. She moved to Big Sky Care Center in Helena where she resided until her death. Shirley loved her many friends in Fairfield, and deeply missed them after her illness in 1999. Her family and friends will remember her for her courage in dealing with her illness and injuries. She always remained positive and loved to laugh up to the final hours of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, and three sisters, Ruth, Jean and Hazel.
Survivors include five sisters: Mae Gartmann, Arlyle Conn and Mildred Knapp of Wausau, Betty Burton of Buena Park, Calif., and Lone Kelsey of Santa Ana, Calif.; her sons and daughter-in-laws, Dan and Sally Cress of Columbus, Ohio, Mark and Dee Dee Cress of Helena, and Bryan and Laura Cress of West Chester, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairfield at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, followed by a luncheon. Memorials may be sent to the Big Sky Care Center, c/o Resident Council, 2475 Winne, Helena, MT 59601, to help purchase a projection TV for the residents or to Grace Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Hagler-Anderson Mortuary was entrusted with local arrangements.

Kathleen Early
Kathleen Early died at home in Arlington, Va., on Jan. 12, 2004.
Born in 1911 on a farm in County Leitrim, Ireland, after local schooling she attended business school in County Longford and later worked briefly in England. In 1936, she met and married John Early. John and Kathleen then moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. When WWII ended, John was working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. They moved to Montana because jobs for non-veterans were scarce in New York and there was the prospect of investing in and working at Foleys Mill and Cabinet Works, in Helena. While the prospects did not work out, nevertheless they stayed from 1946 through mid-1955.
They owned a succession of small businesses, including two restaurants (one at Helena Airport) and a moving company. After they moved back east, they also owned small businesses. John died in 1972.
Kathleen is survived by four children; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Burial services were in Arlington on Jan. 16, with interment on Jan. 20 in Calvary cemetery, Queens, N.Y.

Dale Roger Shoquist
Dec. 8, 1954 - Jan. 30, 2004
Dale died of heart and lung complications in Yuma, Ariz., at approximately 1 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2004.
He made his home in Boulder for most of his life. He spent his entire adult life working at the Shop-Rite. He began right out of high school working at Shop Rite and then became owner. He owned it for over 10 years. Later he built a home in Comet, where he favored himself as the mayor.
He is remembered as enjoying fishing and hunting with family and close friends. He especially enjoyed Father's Day at Clark Canyon Dam and regular trips to Lake McDonald. He was a Buckmaster with Bill Woods and felt that whitetails were the only deer worth hunting. He liked to crank wrenches on cars and "make 'em go fast." His favorite color was undoubtedly red and he was given the title of "The Red Baron" in his drag racing career in which he drove a '68 Camero built in his "Chevrolet Garage." He loved his dogs and hated scary movies. He loved to laugh and that is probably most people's largest memory of him.
Survivors include his two children, Trason and Tiffiney; his parents William and Nellie; his numerous aunts and uncles, and his siblings Lynn, Mark and Scott. His best friends were Bill Woods and Rose Bullock.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Comet in the spring of 2004.

Joan Iris Brenner
Joan Iris Brenner, 56, of Glendive passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, in Glendive.
Joan was born in Glendive on Oct. 6, 1947, to Hilda and John Mooer and spent virtually her entire life in Glendive. She graduated from Dawson County High School in 1965, received an associates degree from Dawson College in 1967, and a bachelors degree in education from Eastern Montana College in Billings in 1970. While working toward her degree, Joan began teaching school near Bloomfield in 1968 and continued teaching for many years in Deer Creek, Lindsay, and at Lincoln School in Glendive.
Joan met Bob Brenner while both worked at the Rose Theatre in 1968 and they were married in 1970. Later that year, their daughter Brenda was born. The couple later divorced. In 1980, Joan joined the Dawson County Department of Public Welfare. After working at the department for 10 years, she became the county director. In an interview she stated, "I like working with people, feeling that I can be of help." While working as the Dawson County director for public assistance for the past 13 1/2 years, Joan was assigned additional responsibility for four additional counties (Wibaux, McCone, Prairie and Richland) and served as the director of two work programs in five counties.
Joan demonstrated her desire to give back to the community by either serving on or leading numerous committees: Eastern Plains Jobline Workforce System Community Management Team, County Directors Association (secretary-treasurer), Community Advisory Council, Community GATE (spearheading the car and recycling programs), Dawson County Transportation Board, Salvation Army Board, Glendive Noon Lions (past president), Montana Early Childhood Advisory Council, and involved with Fair for All and 100 Club.
In addition to the many hours spent serving the community, Joan still found time for crafts, gardening, baking, sewing, crocheting, reading, putting together care packages for her daughter and son-in-law, and spending time with her fiance' and companion of 16 years, Tom Wynne.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Brenda Wolfe and her husband Brad of Cary, N.C.; her mother, Hilda Vanarski of Glendive; her brothers, Charlie Mooer and his wife, Deb, and Alan Mooer and his wife, Mary, all of Glendive; her sister, Pat Hawk and her husband, David, of Reddick, Fla.; and by her fiance', Tom Wynne of Glendive.
She will be dearly missed.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, at the United Methodist Church in Glendive with the Rev. T.C. Chatman officiating. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements. Memorial gifts in Joans name will be used for a memorial scholarship.

Jason Paul Treib
Jason Paul Treib, age 28, of Canyon Creek died Feb. 4, 2004, at St. Peters Hospital in Helena, from brain cancer.
Jason was born to Paul and Nancy (Reetz) Treib Nov. 2, 1975, in Helena. He attended Jim Darcy Elementary and Capital High School in Helena graduating in 1994. He was married for a brief time between 1996 and 1999. He has been employed with Bobs Valley Market from January 2002 to present and had worked at County Market from 1992 to January 2002. Jason took great pride in his work, always going the extra mile.
His hobbies included muscle car restoration - most recently a 1970 Camaro he restored with his father. He enjoyed the mountains and outdoor exploring.
Jason was preceded in death by paternal grandparents John and Eva (Faulhaber) Treib, and uncles, Jack Treib and Daniel Bieber. Surviving Jason are his parents Paul and Nancy Treib; brother, Jeremy Treib, all of Helena; maternal grandparents Stanley Reetz, Killdeer, N.D., and Agnes Vogele, Billings; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Retz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Helena with burial to follow at Resurrection cemetery.
A selfless, thoughtful, courteous young man, Jason prided himself in the giving of his time to help others.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorials in Jasons name to Hospice of St. Peters, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601 or asks that you do something thoughtful for someone, lend yourself to help or assist someone in need.
